Olivia, a successful author, loves nature and adventure, but Stanley, her husband, a Professor of Literature who manages the business aspects of her writing, wants only to watch old movies. He refuses to accompany her in her efforts to experience the world, a necessity for her writing. She goes out into a storm to experience the might of nature, and sees a small yacht battling the storm to reach Port Morning, the small harbor town near her cottage. She realizes that the crew might need assistance, and she hastens through the storm to do what she can. The lone sailor makes it into the harbor, and her meeting with him changes her life. It opens her eyes to the fact that her husband has been defrauding her, stealing the royalties due to her, and publishing some of her best books, which he told her would not be accepted by the publisher, under his own name. She wants to be sure that he will never be able to treat another woman as he has treated her, and she institutes actions for recovery of her losses and for divorce, as well as laying criminal charges against him. Stanley knows that the only way he can rescue his career and his fortune in to make sure that Olivia is not alive to continue the cases. He sets out to kill her. Olivia, John and Oliver, her beloved grandfather have to find a way to stop Stanley before he murders her.
