I am absolutely amazed that this is this author's debut book. The writing was fantastic.

This is Ryann Sinclair and Cashel Donovan's story. Two people that knew each other when they were teenagers. Both having never forgotten the other. When fate brings these two back together sparks fly and memories of first kisses and friendship all come flooding back. The years apart have left both with scars and with outside forces determined to interfere, can this couple overcome the pain and secrets to get their HEA?

description

I am not really sure where to start with this review, to be honest. I don't think any words I put here will do justice to how much I enjoyed this book. From beautiful writing to heartbreaking characters to smokin sexy times this book captured my heart.

Cash was an amazing hero. He'd been hurt in the past, but he never let his fear stop him from pursuing a relationship with Ryann. Ryann broke my heart. I wanted to reach into this book and hug her. So much tragedy in her life but I never felt she played the victim. Sure she was weary, and scared, and pushed away. At the same time, I felt both she and Cash actually acted and responded to things like adults (fancy that). This book isn't heavy on secondary characters, but I really enjoyed the little bit of Ryann's BFF that we got to see.

Not much else to say really. Two HUGE thumbs up from yours truly.

HEALING THE BROKEN:
(A Second Chance Romance) This is spoken in
numerous POV’s. Prepare yourselves for K. Street’s impressive debut novel. This review will be as spoiler free as I can possibly make it. My only advice I can offer you one click trigger happy peeps is that you NEED to go into this blind, because there are a few twists and turns that make this story riveting, dark, and all those gritty bits will get spoilt if you read reviews that tell you what's going to come at you. Definitely recommend this!!

This author had me in the palm of her hand from the very first paragraph right up until I closed that very last page. This book will take you on a roller coaster of epic proportions, you live, breathe, everything this author throws at you as though you yourself are Ryann.

The very beginning of the book is slightly dark, it shows what we as outsiders can never see within closed doors of others households, some have a fairytale upbringing others like Ryann have what can only be termed as your worst nightmare.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Image and video hosting by TinyPic The monster in my nightmare is real. I've been to hell. My father was the devil. Guilt and grief are the demons that torture my soul.

We’re first introduced to an impressionable eleven year old Ryann hiding under the covers in her bedroom as she listens to a fight between her parents. Things here take a turn for the worst, something a child should never have to endure.

Then the story jumps to when these two star crossed lovers are reunited where Ryann is working t a bar called O'Malley's,until school starts in the fall where she has a teaching position as an elementary teacher, Cash and Ryann haven't seen each other for eight years, though they have never forgotten each other, young teenagers in love, he was her very first kiss.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Image and video hosting by TinyPic I remember looking into his eyes all those years ago, a million little butterfly wings stirring to life in my belly. Now, I'm all grown up, I don't believe in fairy tales or the magic of shooting stars.

Now because of the big jump I wish we'd had more insight of things after that night it kind of leaves a big gap in the story, just a small taste of the emotional turmoil she would've gone through would've had me connected to the story on more of an emotional level.

As you progress further into the book, don’t be fooled into the false sense of security the author lures you in, Ryanns life finally looks like it’s going in the right direction, reunited with a long lost but not forgotten boyfriend, then things take a step into the darkside with twists and turns coming at you left right and centre. Twists that I didn’t see whilst in my happy bubble.

Wow.
What an incredible debut novel from K. Street.
This book had all the elements that I love in a good story.
Suspense, angst, a little action, and a beautiful love story in between.
I was swept away by Cash and Ryann’s journey, and that is a true testament to the talent of this author. The writing was incredible.
I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next.

Healing the Broken isn't just a typical book. It also isn't just a simple story. In fact, there's nothing typical or simple about this tale at all. What this is, is a story about the darker side of life, the things that happen within a family that isn't necessarily spoken about. It's one of those *things* that's buried under a rug. Because under a rug it's safe. It's kept. It's forgotten. But what Street does is lift that rug and make us face the honest reality. Books like Healing the Broken are the ones that hit me the hardest. They're so full of angst and rawness, that I have no choice but to stare into the eyes of pure darkness. Street made me stare. Then, she wrapped me in layers where I could feel every pulse, where I lived in her words and breathed in her prose. I loved every second of it.

BOOK REVIEW
TITLE: Healing the Broken
AUTHOR: K. Street
GENRE: Contemporary Second Chance Romance
PUBLICATION DATE: January 27, 2017
CLIFF HANGER: No

4 Stars

*This story is for mature audiences only. Contains explicit scenes and language intended for adults 18+ WARNING: There is domestic violence, so if this is a trigger for you, you are warned.

SYNOPSIS:
Strength is born during the moments that are meant to break us.

Monsters didn’t just exist in nightmares.

They were real; they lived among us. As the sole witness to a brutal murder, Ryann Sinclair knew that better than anyone.

He’d been burned once, and Cashel Donovan swore it was the last time.

Until Ryann Sinclair walked back into his life.

She was fiercely protective of her heart, and he was hell-bent on protecting her.

Never one to back down from a challenge, he was determined to break her.
Just so he could be the one to put her back together.

MY THOUGHTS:
All I can say is wow! It’s amazing to me that this is the debut of this author. This story had me from the beginning and I was so caught up in the story. I love a good second chance romance! The writing was smooth and the characters were well developed and the story was so balanced. It flowed very well. The content at times is hard to take, as it deals with domestic violence.

Ryann Sinclair is broken from her dark upbringing and broken relationships. She doesn’t trust anyone with her heart anymore. She moved back to the seaside town she went to when she was a teenager, as she inherited her grandparents’ seaside home. One summer, when she was 15, she met Cashel Donovan, then 18, and lost her heart. He was her first kiss, her first love. She never felt that kind of love again. She got the surprise of her life when Cash walked into the bar she was now working at.

Cash Donovan was in law enforcement and was returning to the small seaside town to become their, for lack of a better word, sheriff. He had been in love before and the most recent time ended so badly he vowed he wasn’t going to let that happen again. He was a love them and leave them kind of guy now. He was beyond surprised when he walked into his cousin’s bar and there stood Ryann Sinclair, the girl he loved and left behind many years ago. He had never forgotten her.

Okay, I have set you up, but you are going to have to read this riveting story. There is so much depth to the story and characters. There are so many twists and turns and it is so well written. I enjoyed every bit of it, even the things that were hard to take. I highly recommend you take this journey of lost young love that is found and rekindled years later.

Debut book?! Whaaa????? Wow. I'm blown away.

4.5 stars, btw.

I knew this was going to be a "darker" read for me, but I put on my big girl panties on and dove in. I couldn't stop reading the first half of this book. It was an easy read even though I knew darkness was coming.

Then something happened. Two teenage girls were murdered in a community north of where I live. I stopped reading this book. I couldn't do it. I had too much input. The horrific tragedy, this book, the news. I tried picking it back up a couple times, but I needed happy and light. It had nothing to do with the book, and everything to do with my mood.

I finished the book today; I needed to read their HEA. I'm glad I did. I loved the MCs and their connection. The only little tidbit that bothered me was at one point, the H kinda disappears for three days. I believe he does this in order to give the heroine space, but I didn't like it. lol

This author is crazy talented. I can't wait to see what she writes next!

These characters had no depth to them.
Especially Cashel. He was the quintessential alpha-male. I really wish authors in this genre would stop perpetuating this stereotype that to be cared for means that a man has to completely control a woman. Cash told Ryann what do do without ever considering her thoughts and emotions. Ryann in the same vane was pretty weak, despite the promising krav maga background.
Everyone was reactionary in this book, no substantial discussions or compromising.

What a fantastic debut novel! K. Street is an author that can only grow stronger from this first book. One to add to the list of author's to watch what she produces next.

Ryann is a person who has been through so much and more in her life. After watching her father murder her mother and then surviving her father driving the car to kill them both. The years pass and life goes on. Although the nightmares have slowed down, the constant reminder of what she went through will always be in her head.

Cash is the local detective on the police squad. Heading to his cousins remodeled bar...he takes one look at the girl working behind the bar and immediately recognizes her. After all these years...how is it possible.

This is a great story of how love can help you overcome everything bad that has happened in your life. One that if you find the right person, you can start to have feelings and live life like it was meant to be. With the twists and turns included in this book, you can not put it down till the very last page!

When reading a new Author I always feel a little pressure. This is someone that I don't know, or have only seen through a computer screen, and the words in the book are connected to them in ways I cannot even fathom. The pressure comes because I don't want to deter the author from continuing on with their dream with my critique.
That being said...

“Strength is born during the moments that are meant to break us.” ~Healing the Broken by K. Street

I am beyond thrilled that I got to read an early copy of Healing the Broken by Author K. Street. This book will have you going through a wide range of emotions. I love a book that makes your emotions flare. It means that you connected on some level with the story or the characters. Ryann and Cash definitely got into my heart. I absolutely loved this book, and I am very impatiently waiting for what this Author comes up with next.

It's 2.30am and I'm an emotional wreck! I could not put this book down until I knew how it ended. The love, fear, frustration, lust, sadness and angst were all here in the pages of this book. I held my breath and cried tears of despair and unerring love.
Cash is such a knight in shining armour. He is Ryann's saviour, if only she'd let him!
This story is full of action and a couple of twists that I never saw coming. I've never read a book by this author before, but that will change now.
What a life Ryann has had! So much trauma, so much guilt she has carried with her from childhood until adulthood. Cash is determined to help her and love her. So adorable.
You will love this story. It's a bit dark in some places but the story is totally believable, and your worst nightmare!

I had the great pleasure of Beta reading for K. Street and I am here to tell all of you readers out there to prepare yourselves for a PHENOMENAL debut book! I had the pleasure of meeting this lovely lady a few months ago and what an INSTANT connection she and I had. To have been asked to Beta read for her was truly an honor. I wish there was more than just a 5 Star review, because Healing the Broken exceeds 5 stars. It is evident from the beginning of this book how passionate K. Street is about her craft in writing. The fluidity of the words and how well she defines each character takes you on an emotional journey. K. Street is so thorough and explicit in her writing. I was able to picture each character in the book as if I was alongside of them. I wanted to jump into the book. You will get the goosebumps as you read the book because she makes feel what these characters are going through. When your heart begins to pound and accelerate throughout the story, that's when you know it's a great book.

She takes you on the highs and lows from beginning to end. There are definitely twist and turns, and that moment in the book when your jaw drops is EPIC. K. Street knows how to reel in her readers. I am here to say "Thank you" to K. Street for sharing her amazing talent for writing with such hungry & avid readers like myself.

The storyline is one that I was able to make a personal connection to and I am sure when this book releases, there will be many readers out there that will be able to relate as well. I was an emotional wreck throughout this book because it hit so close to home. I couldn't stop reading. I had to push through those emotions. I felt like I had to be strong for one particular character in this story.

This is a book that MUST go on your TBR list. I won't give any spoilers, rather tell you that it is worth one clicking and reading. You definitely won't be disappointed. Happy Reading Book Lovers!

"All her broken, jagged pieces. Every scar. I love her stubborn will and her sarcastic wit."

So like most of you, I have the never ending TBR (to be read) list. Countless ebooks downloaded (there will be a reality show called ebook hoarders soon I'm sure). The point is we all have so many books and little time sometimes for the passion we love. Taking a chance on a new author is sometimes low on our list. It isn't that I won't take a chance, it's just so many faves calling my name to be read. SO with all that said, HEAR MY WORDS! You will want to add this to your To be Read list ASAP. You will not want to WAIT to take that chance on a debut novel. Maybe that can be a new goodreads goal, read a debut novel from a new author. This book was, well I would like to say a breathe of fresh air but it was emotional and difficult at times when you feel so much for what these characters go through. The writing is on point, beautiful and it keeps such a steady pace you won't even believe you are finished in one sitting! NO wasted words from this author at all! I fell in love with Cashel and Ryann and their story! Ryann has secrets and she is trying to start anew and Cashel, well Cashel is just a hot little detective who just wants to help her and give her everything! The chemistry between these two characters is off the charts and I love all the stolen moments we get with them! Thank you K. Street for these characters that will stay with me and I cannot wait to read what you have in store next. Keep doing what you're doing!

This really a debut novel?? Wow. I thought this was a great read. I've just sat and read it in one sitting and couldn't put it down.

The prologue throws you right into the story. After reading the prologue I knew there was no way I was gonna read this in a few sittings.

Ryann has been through so much. Too much. A young lifetime of nightmares has left her keeping clear of men. Until Cashel. He walked back into her life and changed everything.

Is he strong enough to fight for what he wants? Can he build up those double layered walls she has built to protect herself?

If I had one negative it's that I didn't know if Ryann was male or female straight away. I know I'm being petty but I like to know what sex I'm reading about. This is just my personal view and takes nothing away from the story.

A brilliant well written story. Good angst and some little twists that I didn't see coming has me giving this five stars.

Looking forward to seeing what else this author has up her sleeve :)

I was given an ARC of Healing the Broken for an honest review. For me it's always a crap shoot when your reading a new author. Most of the time, I don't enjoy the book. Usually it's because the story is weak and the characters don't seem to grow with the book. But that was not the case for me with Healing the Broken. I was caught up in the book from the prologue and it just got better fom there. This is a book about secrets that no one likes to talk about. Ryann is haunted by her past and Cash is determined to help her through it. It's raw and sometimes hard to read but the love story pulls you through. I really enjoyed this book and found myself rooting for both Cash and Ryann. I can't say enough good things about this book and I highly recommend you read it. You will not be disappointed.

Healing the Broken by Author K. Street is her debut novel and is filled with second chances at love.

"She's like a drug, and I'm chasing the ultimate high."

Cash and Ryann both have circumstances in their past that have shaped and formed them into the people they are today. They once had a short fling of young lust. When they finally see each other again, a soft whisper hints at their brief time of small firsts and a possible reconnection for the future.

"I like to play with fire, but any arsonist worth their choice of accelerant knows when to walk away."

Told in dual points of view, Healing the Broken opened my heart to Cash and Ryann and allowed me to experience their lives' best and worst moments. Character representation can make or break a story. In Healing, Author K. Street gave us a strong, vivacious, and independent female heroine. This was paired with an equally fierce and swoon-worthy male character that wanted to be Ryann’s sweet protector. The magnetic attraction of these two rekindled a spark that had never quite gone out, but instead grew in a magnitude that was scorching hot!

"If I let him love me, he'll only break me, and there isn't anything left to break. I'm a mass of fragments, a pile of brokenness that will take more than a lifetime to piece back together."

Out of the gate, this story grabbed my attention. After that, there were some sections, on occasion, that seemed a bit slower in their development. However, the further the story progressed, the more intense and cohesive the writing became. It also led to a major shocking moment, which gave my brain and body a jolt, but totally fit in the story, giving it an interesting and daring direction. All of this culminated into a beautiful HEA that felt like a rain on a hot summer’s day.

Healing the Broken was an emotionally-charged and hope-filled novel infused with some of the unexpected. A welcome debut novel from Author K. Street.

This is K Street's 1st book and what a home run out of the gate! I was glued to the pages of my tablet well past bedtime wanting to, no needing to know what and where the story lead.

Ryann Sinclair, in a nutshell has had a miserable life. An abusive father who beat and killed her mother and nearly her too while killing himself in the process. Then a stalker ex bf. Her faith in men is near zilch. After losing her grandparent, her only family, she is alone, save on friend who lives far away.

Cash Donovan is a detective and is back in town after some training away. When he walks into his cousin's bar he is shocked to see who works there. Ryann. A girl he was close too as a teen. Now 8 yrs later he cant stop thinking about her. His cop sense tells him she hides secrets. When a loser patron nearly attacks her it will start the journey of her safety and their growing closeness. Then the proverbial sh*t will hit the fan.

I loved the book, especially realizing it was a first ever book. The characters were deep, the plot moved along effortlessly. If i had one criticism it was the twist at the end were little to predictable but that still didnt detract from the story on the whole. Brava Ms Street!!!

WHEW! This one is INTENSE! Ryann has to go through some shhhhtuuuuuff. Cash is an amazing book boyfriend, and I loved the relationship between these two. This is the author's debut & is very well written. It does go to some really dark places, and I admit I had to skip over some of the more descriptive stuff from the bad guy. But the fact that we get POV's from that bad guy was a neat move, I thought.

Basically, this quote from the book sums it all up nicely:

"Strength is born during the moments that are meant to break us."

Two thumbs up & another 10+++ stars for me! I cannot WAIT for more!!! : )

I'm not really sure if 3 is a fair rating. The book was difficult but one of the things that bothered me was that they fell into bed pretty soon and after the initial deed it is described at great length any time they do it again.

Also the male lead uses the term baby girl for the FMC. And I really hate it, especially in the epilogue, where he calls his daughter and wife baby girl.

That said, the book was okay. I enjoyed the plot even if it was pretty clear where it will lead.

Strength is born during the moments that are meant to break us.

Healing the Broken was an amazing, heart-rending, emotional read and I cannot believe this is the author's debut novel!

Ryann Sinclair has been party to some absolutely horrific experiences in her life, and although they have marked her, she has found a way to persevere. I say persevere because she has locked everything away down deep without ever truly dealing with it, leaving her with nightmares and a healthy dose of fear. She is now living in coastal Oregon where she spent some wonderful summers as a teenager up until 8 years ago as she tries to find some peace in her life. An unexpectedly familiar set of blue eyes staring back at her across the bar pretty much guarantees peace is not going to be the first word that comes to mind though.

Cashel Donovan was the boy who became her best friend during those summer adventures, was her first kiss at 15, and became the man who every other male has hadto measure up to in the kiss department ever since. Three years older than Ryann, he went off to college and they lost touch, but one look at each other now brings everything rushing back for both of them. When a customer at the bar doesn't take Ryann's lack of interest like a man and gets too hands on, she puts her Krav Maga training to good use and Cash's protective instincts kick in full force much to her relief.

Cash is a police detective now and all his instincts scream that her training and response indicate bad things have happened to her, but he doesn't push her too hard for fear that she will shut down on him. They fall easily back into conversation and friendship born of shared good memories, but there is also a clear attraction and chemistry between them. Cash wants to see where things may lead but Ryann is extremely wary despite her heart telling her to take a chance. She trusted her judgment in the past and it almost killed her so now she is afraid to take a chance. When Cash asks her to share her past experiences with him, her flight instinct kicks in and she tries to push him away in the belief that she has been weak when nothing could be further from the truth. But her habit of burying bad things down deep is reaching the point where she is running out of hiding places, and old pain is threatening to bubble over the walls she has built to contain it.

"In theory, a fortress is a wonderful thing, a massive structure erected with the sole purpose to protect what lies behind it from the world. But it’s a double-edged sword, baby girl, because, while it conceals the brokenness, it also inhibits healing.”

When the creep from the bar doesn't go away easily, she continues to try to deflect all his questions which leads to Cash doing a little investigating of his own. Her past won't stay buried, and she finally reaches her breaking point when she realizes what Cash has done. Fortunately her best friend from college talks her through the anger and hurt to convince Ryann to give him a chance to explain himself. Then when it seems there is a light on the horizon, she is forced to endure yet another trauma that just may be the proverbial last straw.

Cash and Ryann's story was beyond any expectations I had going into Healing the Broken. The author plays the reader's emotions like some of the most experienced storytellers out there, and I was glued to the pages through the emotional peaks and valleys. The characters' connection felt real and believable- oh, and there were some pretty great moments of sexy times too! ;-) Take a chance on this new author, I think you will be pleasantly surprised!

Review of Healing the Broken by K. Street

Review done for Hooked on Books & CherryOBlossoms Promotions

5 out of 5 stars

Ryann Sinclair has suffered abuse at the hands of men who were supposed to love her. Well not again; she will never let anyone get a chance to get close any more.

That is until her first kiss walks into the bar where she is working. She hasn’t seen him in years but he still makes her heart race. He has grown into an extremely, sexy man.

Ryann will do everything she can to hide her past from Cashel. He wouldn’t want her if he knew what happened.

Cashel can’t believe his eyes when he sees Ryann after all these years. The last time he saw her was when he left for college. She has grown into a beautiful woman and Cash can’t help but want her.

Cash can tell something is going on with Ryann. When a lowlife starts trouble at the bar, everything begins to spiral out of control for Ryann. She is in danger and Cash will do everything he can to protect her.

I loved this book. It was fast paced, and full of danger and angst. The author kept the story moving by not filling it with unneeded detail. Cash was sexy and Ryann was tough. They were perfect together; not to mention their connection was off the charts smoking hot.

I definitely recommend this book to read.

You sometimes are a little skeptical about reading debut novels, but if you never take a chance then you can never find something truly amazing. This is that book, it was absolutely a wonderful book, I could not put it down once I started.

Everyone has secrets in life and Ryann Sinclair is just the same as anyone else, but her secrets have shaped her to the lady she is today, the lady that holds back from giving anyone her heart, and finding love. Because when love is taken away so cruelly by the ones that you do love you learn that somethings in life are not meant to be. And the only boy that made her feel true love as a young teenager was Cash Donovan, and she never saw him again until the night he walked back into his cousin’s bar. But after all of the suffering and hurt that Ryann has been through can she let him back into her life and more importantly back into her heart. Of will she push him away so she can keep her secrets buried deep.

Detective Cash Donovan is your typical alpha male. He has not given his heart to anyone since he had it broken, but if there is one person who could change that it would be Ryann Sinclair. He has had feeling for her since he was a teenager and even now he still wants this woman. But as a series of events take place in her life, he must protect her, but help her to open up and see they belong together. But will he be able to tear down the walls that she has erected?

Well color me surprised! THIS WAS NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING!!!! It was SOOOOO MUCH BETTER!! This author just moves me man!!! She is so talented!!
This was a darker more angsty book than the other two. At one point I was having a bit of trouble breathing and my butt was clenched tight because I was downright scared!!
When the book starts we see why Ryann is so broken...and boy does she have a reason to be! Bless her! She blames herself for so much and it is sad that a young child had to go through so much and then spends her life blaming herself. Then on top of all that she’s lost everyone in her life...except Cash...CASH....*swoons*
Cash was someone from her past and he is just what she needed in her present! Omg...he’s the anchor that she holds on to. He is the one that stands beside her no matter what, through the good the bad and the oh so ugly.
I was quite shocked at the darker side of this book. Don’t get me wrong, it was bloody fabulous but Jaysus (as Grady says) it was DARK!!! This sicko psychopath Dylan and Whitaker....scared me to death!!!
I so enjoyed this book! I have loved every single book that I’ve ever read by this author!!! Unbelievably good!!!! I look forward to more from this author!!!

I loved this debut novel.

Ryann is beyond broken so when she finds herself where she spent her teenage summers, before college, she runs into her first crush Cash.

They find that the old feelings are still there, but now Cash wants more and Ryann wants to believe she can try for more with Cash, because he's shown everything she's never had in relationship. He's kind, loving and fiercely protective.

The story is filled with rebuilding a broken woman, it was also filled with angst, twists and suspense, all the things I love.

This was a great debut novel and you would guess that it was just that, the writing was well written as I got lost in Ryann and Cash's story,I can't wait to see what's next from this author.

I received this book in return for my honest opinion.

Healing the Broken is a stellar debut novel and is told in multiple POV. The writing is impressive and the characters are written with a depth that is rare among debut authors. If you're looking for a book to hold you captive from the first page to the very last word, then be sure to add this book to your TBR.

Baby girl

If I had a dollar for every time the hero called the heroine baby girl, I would be rich. The story has so much potential, but the use of those two words was ridiculous. Every time he spoke to her, he called her that. It was so annoying that I skinned through the second part of the book just to see how it ended.
