Encouraged by their godfather, triplets Edelie, Estrella and Ernestine decide to show the world what they’re capable of. They’re witches, and proud of their witchy heritage. And even though their grandmother warns them not to go through with their crazy scheme, they decide to ignore her advice and go big or go home. Soon their public display of witchcraft lands them on the front page of every newspaper in the country as well as… in prison.
Accused of an act of terrorism, their stunt backfires spectacularly, and even Detective Sam Barkley of the NYPD can’t help them now.
Gran has conveniently disappeared, and so has their godfather, but when things look worse than ever before, the three most inept witches in the world buckle down and decide to fight back. They have to make things right, expunge their criminal record, and find the serial killer who’s targeting young women all over New York City. Are they up for the task? Or will they crack under the pressure? Find out in Witchy Hexations , the second book in the funny Witchy Fingers series of cozy witch mysteries.
Nic has a background in political science and before being struck by the writing bug worked odd jobs around the world (including but not limited to massage therapist in Mexico, gardener in Italy, restaurant manager in India, and Berlitz teacher in Belgium).
When he’s not writing he enjoys curling up with a good (comic) book, watching British crime dramas, French comedies or Nancy Meyers movies, sampling pastry (apple cake!), pasta and chocolate (preferably the dark variety), twisting himself into a pretzel doing morning yoga, going for a run, and spoiling his big red tomcat Tommy.
He lives with his wife (and aforementioned cat) in a small village smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere and is probably writing his next ‘Mysteries of Max’ book right now.
A good read in a lighthearted way that you can read even if feeling poorly. No thinking required whatsoever as it is a frantic romp that would put Fawlty Towers to shame and make it seem like a serious piece of work. A plot that has the three sisters utterly beguiled by their godfather into using magic as a means to fight nefarious warlocks. All against their grandmother's wishes. Add in disappearing a building, being filmed, arrested, asked to rescue the daughter of the President of the US. Can they set things right? Will charges be dropped? Why has the young woman been kidnapped? The characters are vivid and bright although I must admit that the three sisters are as thick as two short planks and more easily led then a two year old. Very tongue in cheek but for a mindless read it's perfect.
In the first book they were known as the three worst witches in the world and their grandmother had forbidden them to do magic away from the house. On a particular day they each decided to cast a spell at work. It was a disaster all round and each girl was fired from her job. They also met a man who claimed to be their godfather and the best friend of their parents who had died on the job (robbing the rich to repay the poor.) In the second d book they're trying to work out how to follow their parents wishes. And they need a job. I know let's start our own business. That will solve our problems. It didn't, of course. It. Just Ade everything worse.
Deciding to go big in their first act to attract warlocks and demons lands the girls in custody as terrorist. The world thinks they tried to kill the president with a building. To atone they have to catch the "Mummifier". This book is smoother and while the girls still don't have Gran's help the bumble through this book on their own powers. I like this one more than the first one and the sneak peak at the end makes 3 look like a good bet too.
I found this second book in the series to be a little better than the first. There's something sympathetic about witches that have powers and still manage to be basic screw-ups.
