Leda Pierce’s latest mission brings her back to her hometown at the edge of the Frontier. But things have taken a turn for the worse in the six months since she left home to join the Legion of Angels in New York City. Crime lords now rule over the town, and the beasts’ numbers are exploding just beyond the great magic wall that separates humanity from the plains of monsters.
Together with the fiercely seductive angel Nero, Leda guides a group of pilgrims across the monster-infested expanse to the ruins of the final battle between gods and demons. What begins as a pilgrimage, however, soon turns into a treasure hunt for an ancient weapon that could tip the balance of power between heaven and hell—and spirals into an intrigue that pits Leda and Nero against a rogue member of the Legion, a legendary angel as powerful as he is black-hearted.
Ella Summers has been writing stories for as long as she could read; she's been coming up with tall tales even longer than that. One of her early year masterpieces was a story about a pigtailed princess and her dragon sidekick. Nowadays, she still writes fantasy. She likes books with layered plots, lots of action and adventure, and a touch of romance. When she is not busy writing or spending time with her two young children, she makes the world safe by fighting robots.
Originally from the U.S., Ella currently resides in Switzerland. She is the author of Sorcery and Science, a fantasy adventure series set in a world splintered by magic and technology.
I’m hooked on the Legion of Angels series. It’s been a while since I’ve found a series that has hooked me enough where I want to read one book after the other.
Siren’s Song starts not long after Witch’s Cauldron. Leda has been leveled up and now has the power of the Siren’s Song. What this power is, is the ability to compel others to do things.
The Legion has been powering up as many members as possible. Nix, the First Angel hasn’t said why, but we can only guess that something big is coming.
Leda is sent on another mission which takes her back to her hometown, Purgatory. She gets a taste of what being a Legion member really means. She learns that you can’t interfere in anything BUT Legion business, so when Leda sees a women being attacked, her instincts say help, but she can’t. This scene shows us and Leda that she cannot just be herself anymore.
We also see / learn that their are big changes happening in the New York office. Their where some big surprises in Siren’s Song and their are Guardians, not just gods and demons. Who are theses Guardians? Their is more happening then what we know.
I love the action and developments with the relationship; between Leda and Nero. In Siren’s Song, Leda and Nero are taking it slow in whatever their relationship is. We get to learn a little more about the angels and their personalities.
The only thing I didn’t care for is the use of the gods Nector as a recreational drug.
Siren’s Song kept me riveted and wondering what could possible happen next for these characters. I’m picking up the next book, Dragon’s Storm, now. Urban Fantasy fans will enjoy this series.
There is a big difference between a slow burn romance and intentionally giving readers blue balls.
The main protagonist is supposed to be 22, by this book, 23. She acts like a goofball vestal virgin instead of a badass bounty hunter turned super soldier, and has the emotional and mental maturity of a 14 year-old. I get it. Resolving the romance loses readers. But the only thing standing in the way of these two is the heroine is afraid to get her heart broken? For real? Welcome to dating and real life, Pandora. Now, either join the convent already or suck it up.
I think this one is my favourite book out of the three in this series that I've read so far. There is so much action and the plot is really awesome. We get to see Leda become stronger and also more of her with Nero, which was about damn time. But I still wished for more romance between these two. I totally agree with a reviewer, who wrote that the author gave us blue balls with this story. It's totally true and if these two don't get it on in the fourth book I just don't know what I'm going to do. There's slow burn and there is just messing with our feelings and investment in these two characters. So I really hope they get together, properly this time, or I'm out.
The actual suspense/action in this one was more interesting with a surprise at the end but the end result remains that this just isn't working for me unfortunately. At the end if this one Nero's been promoted in an effort to separate him and Leda as they tend to cause chaos when they're together. This just means even a hint of romance is just further away so I'm pausing the series for now. Having read the other series with the fair haired bad ass and her sexy angel this one just isn't working out......sigh
I'm still ALL IN for the love story of Ivy + Drake. When will they figure it out
Is this one of those series that takes forever and at the end they all have children? Ya know, like good ol Harry Potter or some shit.
Anyway,
Colonel Fireswift can suck a giant dick. What a fucking cunt he is. He must not be getting any to be so cruel. Poor Jace. Jace is gonna die, I can feel it. My predictions are all coming true. So it's either gonna be him or Ivy. WHO IS NEXT?? Just saying, there's a lot of happiness going around the gloom is bound to come.
That sounded really morbid. Sorry y'all.
Moving on, Damiel is a fucking treat. How are we just now meeting him?? I'm also very hopeful to meet Momma Windstriker (I'm getting all of these last names wrong aren't I?). Or whatever her last name is. I can just see it now. The family reunites. She's with the guardians. Zane's with the guardians. They find them. They go against the Legion. Nyx, mystery God, Colonel Firedick all perish. One big happy family at the end eating dinner out of Calli's best china. She's gonna need a bigger dinner table. Tess is pissed she didn't get to marry Damiel..
I still really enjoyed it, but it really became clear that the Legion is overtly evil here, and that's a bummer.
Not that I thought they were awesome before, I didn't. But there's a difference between hardass military group that tolerates no disobedience, versus what we saw in this book. They're evil. I can't see any difference between the two sides in this war, and so I don't like that Leda and Nero are bound to one of the sides.
And forced mating? Fuck right off with that. Sign me up for Team Demons, if that's how Team Gods runs their shit.
Seriously though, why join? Yeah, yeah, power. But what's the damn point if no one - not even those who make it to the rarefied top and become an angel - has power over any aspect of their life or choices? Why don't people near the top jump ship CONSTANTLY?
Maybe it is because I have been reading books 1-3 back-to-back, but I am starting to lose interest.
Leda needs to get to level 8 or 9 to be able to communicate with her abducted foster brother, that is the one reason for her to have joined the Legion of Angels. As we know hardly anything about said brother and there was no established story between them, I have no real feelings about this.
I dislike the Legion of Angels. All those young people pledging themselves, fighting for the Legion and trying to get better and better. For what? For the Gods? For the angels? For the world? They are so easily discarded by the dozens, sacrificed by the Legion for a 'better' cause. Forced to drink the Nectar before they are ready and have a horrible death. I was disgusted. Nero explains somewhere that Nyx, the First Angel, is not born human and that excuses the despicable death toll???
The storyline could be condensed as it seems books 1-2 are rinsed and repeated. Leda fights, trains, fights, trains, thinks of sex with Nero etc. etc. And she gets to the next level. The relationship between Leda and Nero moves slowly. In this book there is some talk about angels being forced to marry. What is the connection with Leda/Nero?
Everything is too slow for my liking and I am not sure I will continue the series. It is written very well, but I need more explanation about things that don't add up.
We are getting deeper into the Legion of Angels with this piece. Leda is back in her city, and it has not gotten any better there. Corruption is widespread, there are crime lords running the town and the beasts’ numbers are exploding behind the wall that protects the city. With Nero at her back yet again, Leda guides a group of people across the deserted desert to protect them from those beasts. While it started out as a goodwill mission, it ends up being a rogue battle and the search for an ancient weapon that can slay immortals. Three books in and these stories would make a great streaming series. All the action, apocalyptic-like-world, monsters, and a good seductive secondary character. Leda is a great main character, and I like that she keeps to her quest to find her brother.
Thank you Sharon J for recommending this book series to me. This was an incredible read. The story was action-packed and fast-paced. Leda was still the same snarky and feisty character from the first book who is not afraid to talk back to authority figures such as Nero. Nero has really stepped up in this book because we actually get to see the more humane side of Nero and how he feels about Leda. In this one, we see Nero and Leda go on their first date. I thought it was very interesting. I loved their sexual tension. I cannot wait to see them become more than what they are now. The secondary characters such as Drake, Ivy, Jace and etc, were also fantastic additions to the story. I can’t wait to see where Dragon's Storm goes. Overall, an amazing read.
Leda is neck deep in angels and mischief - and the plots that surround them just keep getting better! Definitely a slow burn romance with just the right heat and plenty of adventure.
Siren's Song starts not long after Witch's Cauldron. Leda has been leveled up and now has the power of the Siren's Song. With the Siren's Song power, Legion members can compel others to do the things they want. We start out at a bar with Leda practicing her powers with Jace until things go wrong. As usual, Nero appears to fix the problem. He seems to be close by a lot. I think he's pretty much onto Leda's troublesome ways.
The Legion is working hard to power up as many of it's members as possible. Nix, the First Angel hasn't given away why, but it is an important goal and everyone is working hard. Now they are sent on a mission that takes them to Leda's hometown. Here she gets a taste of what being a Legion member really means. One of the rules is you cannot interfere in anything BUT Legion business. So when Leda comes across a woman in her town being attacked, her instincts overrule her head. She comes very close to getting both her and Nero into some very big trouble. I think this is the start of where we see Leda finally realizing that she cannot just be herself anymore. She's an agent of the Legion and that changes people. It's gotten her labeled as a troublemaker and a bad influence on Nero. As such, we find ourselves with some big changes in the New York office, and this mission. Changes that are not going to be in Leda's best interest. A new character also surfaces at the end that is a big surprise. He's tough, Legion trained, but he does seem to have a sense of humor about him that makes me think I'm going to enjoy his character in the upcoming books.
I love the action and the development of Leda and Nero's relationship. In Siren's Song, the romance is a little more on the "on" side, without a lot of disruption or tension between the two. They are taking it extremely slow, probably mostly because of their responsibilities. Leda's power grows exponentially during this book, so we see her really get this new power down solid. Unfortunately that doesn't help her during a level up ceremony.
Siren's Song is full of action that will keep you riveted to the book wondering what could possibly happen to these characters next. We get to know more of the agents and their personalities which was a lot of fun. There are some characters on their team for sure. I would have loved to see Leda and Nero move a little farther along, as the wait for them to finally become a "couple" is driving me crazy. It is slow going for sure. Not that it's their fault though.
Cris Dukehart does an amazing job as always with the books in this series. I love the way she gets Leda's urgency in situations and the cockiness of the other soldiers. I find myself engrossed in the story as she tells it and don't have any times where I find that she's off pace or fumbling with a character's voice. Siren's Song was a great listen!

Heather's Notes So I am liking these stories more and more. I really like how Ledia is growing, but I am so done with the slow burn romance - they need to get it on or move on. I also don't really care for Colonel Fireswift; I really hope he doesn't stick around long. Nix really disappointed me in this story, I thought better of her. Still the story overall was good, and I look forward to the next one.
I love love LOVE this series. And I waited to read it (even though I picked it up the day of it's release) bec I've been saving it for our vacation. Now that we're on our trip, I devoured it on the plane and stayed up finishing it last night.
I have a hard time finding a series, a couple that can hold their own against my über favorite --- Kate and Curran. I have to say that Leda and Nero do fantastic of keeping me in love with them. I love their chemistry. I love the world this storyline is set in. I can't wait for the next book!!!
This book was okay, not as great as the other two. I feel like that was just because everyone was focusing on Nero and Leda not being togather as well as Colonel Fireswift. Gosh he was such an asshole. I really hope Jace can become his own person and doesnt turn into his dad. Also I am starting to feel like Leda's parents are special maybe even one being an angel and one being a demon. That would explain alot. Also Nero's parents are alive. Hoping to pick up the next book in a few days time.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review. The wait was worth it. This book is non-stop fun right off the bat, with seriously funny dialogue, character interaction, sexual tension and an increasingly complex plot. It had me riveted, and second-guessing what was going on, while dominating my thoughts once I put it down. I devoured it in two evenings and I cannot wait for the next one.
Omg! Another 5/5 i absolutely love Nero and Leda. Colonel Fireswift was a crazy addition and as we move closer to Leda becoming a Angel to save her brother it seems to get more and more crazier. But even more Crazy was the fact that Nero's.... well I am not gonna tell the story. You read it yourself. Excellent addition now I gotta wait a long time for the next book!!!!
Absolutely delicious. Full of surprises that just jkeep on coming. We find out more about Leda's past, which leads to new powers unlocked. Nero and Leda finally get their 1st date. Another great story from Ella Summers.
The story continues with this third book in the series. Leda is still training with the Legion of Angels and getting stronger, advancing to a level 3. Her relationship with Nero is still complicated yet sexy. Leda has a wonderfully snarky personality and is extremely stubborn and independent, which continues to drive Nero crazy. There is another adventure to the Black Plains fighting monsters and villains with lots of exciting action. Lastly a little more is revealed about Leda and Nero's families and backgrounds. This is another book that really doesn't end, so must happily continue on to the next in the series.
Quite a few crazy twists this time and Leda is smack dab in the middle of it all. How are Leda and Nero supposed to hook up if they keep getting separated? Ugh! The suspense is killing me. She needs to just go with it. I like the mix of mystery, comedy and romance in this series. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Siren's Song begins with Leda and Nero being together after four months apart. The problem is they are on a serious mission, and can't have any fun in between. Even though, they are both going to try no matter what.
But, along the way some crazy things start happening, and Nero is getting moved around. Things aren't so good in the Legion of Angels right now, and while Leda may hate it, she isn't sure she can do anything to help.
This book was not nearly as good as the previous books. I felt like this one was more of a filler than anything. Because it really didn't give us any major information until the end, but it did confuse me a little bit.
It explained a little bit about Angel marriages, and I'm not sure if that was foreshadowing that Nero may be assigned to marry someone else or what, but it kind of confused me. Especially with the stuff in the end.
So, I will have to wait and see about that. I did like this book though, it had Leda's great personality, and Nero constantly trying to help. So, I'm looking forward to the next one, but I hope it's better than this one.
I read all 5 of these books back to back and loved every second. I can't wait for the next one! The premise is a world invaded by "gods" and "demons" (they are powerful aliens, with access to magic). If you want to gain magic, you can join their army, but it's a life commitment, and about half the time, gaining that magic kills you. So when they say life, they mean life. Other people are born with different kinds of magic, and the army is the ultimate police force on earth. The army captains and generals are all angels - they've reached the highest levels of magic and can manifest wings at will. They are very rare.
Leda joins the legion because her brother has disappeared and she needs magic to find him. She's got spunk - she's always in trouble or saving the day. Then she falls for an angel. And it turns out she's very special herself.
Loved the writing, loved the characters, love the story, can't wait for more.
As you've already figured out, she gets new powers in every book.
We're also finally seeing something between her and Nero (yay) and, although I don't particularly like angel love, this one is fun.
Ohhh, and she discovers some new things and it all just makes the plot even more interesting. I really am excited to see what's next.
A piece of advice though, it's awful not to have the next books in the series, so it's best just to get them ahead if you like the series so far. It will only get better.
A good third installment. We get some movement in the romance area though not much movement in the larger arc of the plotline until near the end of the book. I will agree that this book needs some editing, particularly from chapter 15 and after. There were misspellings, sentences that were started and abandoned, and sentences that tell the story in both first person and third person view as well as use present and past tenses.
Honestly, this book was better than the first two, but I couldn't give it 4 stars because of the spelling mistakes. I usually don't care about these things. If the book is good enough I can overlook a few mistakes. There were some in the first and second book but not as much as in the last 30% of this one. It bothered me because it stopped me from enjoying the book. The mistakes were so often and obvious that they became distracting. So, I hope the next one is better.
I really like this series! its getting better and better and I cant wait for the next one. Only thing there was a few spelling errors and a mix up in words his for her or a her like in the third person when it wasn't meant to be. But other then the spelling and grammar, which I just read around. It was a great read can't wait for the next one.
