Notorious rogue, Lord Nathaniel Kingsley always tended to leap without thinking. Becoming a smuggler, adopting a sheep, getting engaged to Miss Patience Grey…
Patience has no need for a fiancé, or a husband. For once in her life, she wants to prove she’s just as good as a man and she does not need Nathaniel Kingsley getting in her way. With her brother injured, it is up to her to continue her family’s work…and that means tracking down a French spy and ensuring said spy will turn.
Unfortunately, no one believes she can do it alone. Which is where Nathaniel comes in.
Nate is happy to be of service. Why pass up the opportunity to repay an old friend, especially with a little intrigue along the way? Find the spy, play escort to Patience, return home to continue smuggling. Easy.
Or at least it would be if the stubborn Patience would let him do his job. The breeches-wearing woman is determined to do it all alone and, he has to admit, there’s something quite distracting about a woman in men’s clothes.
Can he keep his attention from her long enough to complete their mission and persuade Patience to let him do his job and protect her? A job he’s beginning to find he’s enjoying a lot more than he thought he would…

When a Rogue Loves a Woman 'When a Rogue Loves a Woman' by Samantha Holt is book Two in the "Rogues of Redmere" series. This is the story of Patience Grey and Lord Nathaniel Kingsley. I have read the previous book "You're the Rogue That I Want" but feel this can easily be a standalone book. We met Red and Hannah in that book and see a little of Red in this book because he is Nat's brother. Patience has been raised with brothers and her father always wished she had been a boy so she wears pants and tries to do the things that her brothers do. Now is her chance to go onto a mission for them to catch a French Spy, but they are not letting her go alone. They have asked Nat to go with her so they can go undercover as a married couple. But Nat and Patience don't really get along when they have been in each other's company. But it doesn't take long for the sparks to start to ignite. Ms. Holts books are some of my favorite reads! They are always entertaining and giving me that break from life that you sometimes need. I have loved this series too...such great secondary characters that you truly hope become a next book of hers! When a Rogue Loves a Woman by Samantha Holt is an amazing Regency Romance. While, Book 2 of "Rogues of Redmere , it can be read as a stand alone. Not only will readers find everything a Romance reader desires, it has desire, spies, friendships, smuggling, a French Spy, and an adopted sheep, who yes, acts like a treasured pet, which it certainly is treated as such.
Lord Nathaniel Kingsley, a notorious rogue and a sometime spy, when needed, by his friend. As a second son he must find his own way. Miss Patience Grey, is a fiesty, bluestocking, sister to Nate's friend and spy master. Wishs to make this trip into France alone to encounter the French spy and get the information she has for the British, she also wishes to prove a point to her overbearing brothers and her mother...She can perform her duty alone. But her brother insist Nate’s accompany her on this mission, as her husband. But no believed the plan would work. Can the lovely Patience, win her true love and her match? Will Nate finally meet his match, with Patience? Can they find what both are seaching for, a HEA? Fast paced, well written, with engaging characters, a few laughs along the way and a great storyline. And absolutely masterfully and intriguing story. "When a Rogue Loves a woman ", will have you glued to the pages as you find these characters are simply irresistable. I enjoyed the interaction between Nate and Patience, they had that pull of attraction from the beginning.
Once again, Ms. Holt has written a heartwarming, as well as, a stimulating tale of challenges, intrigue, romance and love. Ms. Holt has never disappointed me with her stories. I can't wait to read more of this exciting series, "Rogues of Redmere", the ladys who tame them and the adventures in their futures. Highly recommended for fans of Regency Romance, spies, friendships, mesmerizing stories, a adopted, cute, sheep, and a written tale, are sure to adore this story. Well done, SamanthaHolt! ! A definite must read Regency Romance!
The book started off on a rocky road, then onto a smoother road with dangerous curves, twists and turns, back to a rocky road, then onto a very unexpected smooth and romantic road. The main female lead is Miss Patience Grey. She is defiant, fierce, stubborn, petulant and is glory bound to make her older brothers proud. She feels she lacks female charms because she is short, has thick arms and thighs, muscular legs and has no waist to think of. She considers herself stocky, hearty not beautiful or womanly and defiantly not marriage material. She has followed behind her brothers all her life and has tried to be as good as them or better in all ways. She has never been comfortable in women's clothing so she wears mens shirts and breeches. She is accepted by the people of Cornwall as eccentric. She does not mind. In the first couple of chapters she is an angry young woman. Her brother Jacob works for the crown. He fell off his horse and broke his leg. He was to embark on a mission taking Patience along as his fiancé as his cover. He was to find a young woman coming from France to her cousins in Falmouth. Apparently, the crown wants information from her about Napoleon as she was his mistress. Now that Jacob could not go, he asked his close friend Lord Nathaniel Kingsley to go in his stead. He wants Nate and Patience to go as husband and wife. Patience egregiously objected. She wanted to prove she could handle this mission on her own. Her grandfather and father were in the military. Her other brothers were in the military. She too was a woman on a mission to prove she could contribute to the welfare of the country. Jacob absolutely refused to allow her to go to Falmouth with Nate. Little did Patience know that Nate had skills and experience that made him the best choice for this mission. Jacob knew Nate's secrets but Patience did not. Extremely reluctant, she acquiesced Jacob. The only other choice was for Jacob to get another female for the job. Patience was primed and ready to go. For some reason, Patience found herself short of patience around Nate. She knew he was a rake and a rogue and he would never look twice at her. But for some reason he really got under her skin and she hated that. The main male lead is Nate. He is devilishly handsome and charming. His older brother is the Earl of Redmere. Because Nate needed eyeglasses to see clearly, he was disqualified from the military. He began living a debauched and drunken life until his brother gave him something worthwhile to do. In his own way, he was helping the crown, just not in the frontlines of battle. This secretive life gave Nate something to live for. Now he was in between jobs and accepted Jacobs request to fulfill his mission. Well, he and Patience could not get along. Although he tried, but she would not have it. Nate enjoyed teasing Patience to the point he exasperated her. When they arrived in Falmouth, Patience pride to prove herself put her in harm’s way. There was danger afoot and she really was not as prepared as she thought she was. However, Nate never held anything against her. As a matter of fact, they did become more comfortable with each other and she confided in him things she never told anyone. The attraction between Patience and Nate is what I consider like a slow burning fire. Add more wood to get a blazing bright fire. Although Nate had to look out for Patience, he never expected her to actually be of any use other than cover. But she surprised him. When the object of the mission came into sight, the hijinks began. Patience gave Nate a scare more than once. But he was impressed with her. Little by little they were losing their hearts to one another without realizing it. When the mission was completed, her brother Jacob congratulated Nate but did not include Patience. Nate and Patience went home when her oldest brother Harry came out of their home to meet her. Patience was overjoyed to see him. All she ever wanted to do was make him proud. When Harry smiled brightly and congratulated her and Nate on their engagement, Patience did not correct him. She saw how happy he was for her and did not want to disappoint him. Well the dilemma only got worse and harder to correct. What a fun read this is and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend this book.
He tends to leap before looking so when he is asked to help, he does. He is in for a shock as she is not what he expected. He has to admit he is beginning to find her more interesting. She needs to find a spy and she dresses as a man. How will he deal with it all? Can they work together? See how they will get on

A well written story with nice storyline and plot. Likeable characters who develops well through the story. They are well described and has a great chemistry. I like it has an epilogue to end the story. An intriguing story with drama, twists, smugglers, action and emotions. Patience did annoy me sometimes with her consistant wanting to do things herself. Engaging and enjoyable read.
A very unorthodox heroine and a rogue go on an adventure. What lost me was the “black moment.” It didn’t make sense to me at the time, although it was clearer when it was subsequently explained. And then it was quickly resolved. Some of the negative phrasing confused me as I had to go back to reread.
Overall, I enjoyed it. The characters were well drawn and unique.
I’m not sure why authors go thru all the trouble of writing a book, only to skimp on things like plot, character development, proofreading for consistency, logical progression, etc. this felt like it was written by a 7th grader on a dare.
Miss Patience Grey grew up with older brothers and always trying to prove herself to them. Now she has the perfect chance - what she can do without is the devishly handsome lord her brother has assigned to accompany her on this mission.
Lord Nathaniel Kingsley leaps at the chance to help a friend, a friend who has helped him on more than one occasion, and have a little adventure. What he hasn't counted on is his rebellious partner - the friend's baby sister.
When the mission takes longer than Patience likes will she find trouble while trying to hurry it along and can Nate save her from herself?
A fake engagement, a breeches wearing female, an atrocious pink dress, insecurities,a rescue in an unexpected way, and a sheep culminate in a funny but touching story by Samantha Holt.
Ms. Holt's Patience drew me in and feeling her lack of self confidence as a woman and her desire to prove herself. And while Nate portrayed the lovable rogue his desire to break free of his brother and prove himself were tangible.
I loved my first Samantha Holt book (the second in her Rogues of Redmere series). She has definitely been added to my MUST READ list!
I received this book at no charge from the publisher. The choice to read and review was mine.
This is amusing, romantic and heartwarming. Nate is a charming, fun and flirty rake who has his thinking turned around when he takes on the responsibility of his friend's sister during a mission. Patience is a strong, determined, bold and impulsive woman who wants to prove to her brothers that she is a capable and worthy person. She didn't want Nate to go with her, and does everything she can to show him that she doesn't need him. But they learn that they make a good team, and soon are becoming friends and partners. They also talk a lot, and tell each other things they've never told anyone else, which brings them close. It's a witty, unpredictable story that I enjoyed reading.

Fun and interesting book! I really enjoyed this one! I think it could be categorized as a Historical Romantic Comedy!
An amusing story full of humor, suspense and romance!
An excellent well-written story with humor and romance mixed with unexpected twists along the way. The characters are well developed that are created to be real with the physical and emotional flaws that you can’t help but understand, identify with and love. Once I started reading, I didn’t want to put the book down. I liked the uniquely written story that contained humor while providing us a bit of romance and intrigue. Too often you feel that you are reading a book that is the same story line with just different characters’ name and places; however, this book is truly a one of a kind adventure.
Samantha Holt is a talented writer that has given us another entertaining book. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand-a-lone with the happily-ever-after ending that we come to expect. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a short funny and suspenseful story with a touch of romance mixed in.
Notorious rogue, Lord Nathaniel Kingsley always tended to leap without thinking. Becoming a smuggler, adopting a sheep, getting engaged to Miss Patience Grey…. Patience Grey is not the womanly sort. She much prefers manly attire to dresses and would prefer to rule her own life and not be dictated to by others. Nathaniel Kingsley is known as a rake. He is not at all what he seems.Under this facade is a hero in the making. This book starts out as a laugh a minute title that I just couldn't put down. I always find something to laugh about in a Samantha Holt book and this one did not disappoint. I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 3.5 of 5.0 flames. Although not filled with intimate scenes there is at least one very heated one.

This story is about a woman named Patience who was unmarried and lived at home with her mother and one of her brothers, Jacob. Jacob works for the government on the down low and has recently been assigned a mission that requires him to be married so Patience is enlisted to pose as his wife. But then Jacob falls and breaks his leg so he asks a friend, Nate, to stand in for him. They tell Patience’s mother that they are pretending to be married to keep things from getting out of hand. Nate is a known rake so Jacob threatens him with dire consequences if anything happens to his sister. But no worries, Patience wears men’s clothing and has no patience with rakes. She has always felt a need to prove herself in a house full of brothers and has never attracted many men and those who were attracted soon learned Patience could take care of herself. I won’t tell you the rest but it’s really good and you gotta love the ending.
Patience and Nate is the incorrigible couple. They are the fun loving and adventure seeking pair. They are both trying to prove to their siblings that they can hack it in the world without being watched over. When they are thrown together on a mission they each believe it is something they can do by themselves. This sets up a situation for some hilarious and witty back and forth banter. They find themselves in some sticky situations, but most of all, they find they actually like each other. The pet sheep is a great addition to the story by the author. The characters in this series continue to grow and develop to what will become a well rounded story. Patience and Nate eventually realize that they are meant for each other and make their way down the aisle.

Nate has promised his friend, Jacob, that he will complete a mission for British Intelligence and pretend that he is married to Jacob's sister Penelope while doing so. Penelope, who dresses more like a man and insists that she can take care of herself, has other ideas. She wants to complete the mission on her own. After all, Nate is a lazy second son who does nothing but wench, drink and gamble. Forced to be together for the mission, Nate suggests that they should claim to be engaged. When Penelope cries false, they tell the members of their families that it is just a ruse. While on the mission, Penelope takes some daring chances and gets herself into trouble almost ruining the mission. Nate is beside himself, trying to protect her. Can love bloom between these two in the midst of a spy mission?
Patience's brother has asked her to pretend to be married to Nate Kingsley but to go undercover as the cousins of a woman named Pauline that was Napoleon's mistress and to get her under theor protection and all of the documents she took from Napoleon. Patience and Nate go undercover and while undercover discover that they have feelings for one another but cannot admit to themselves or anyone else for that matter. They manage to capture Pauline and when they return home their whole believes them to be engaged and as they fight about who should call off the engagement they realize they do love each other and get married along with Nate's sheep.

This is an amusing book of a woman in breaches determined to prove to her brothers that she could preform a mission for the government. She could find a French woman who had important papers she had stolen from Napoleon. They might help end the war. She was to go on the mission with her brother Joseph. He however hurt his ankle and had to rest it for some time. The mission couldn’t wait. Patience was sure she could do it by herself. Her brother decides to send Nate with her. They were to impersonate a cousin of the French woman and her husband. That’s where things started to go wrong. A truly fun book.
When a Rogue Love a Woman (Rogues of Redmere Book 2)
The love story of Nathaniel and Paticence. Paticence is the daughter of a man who want one son, so she does her best to be a son. Nathaniel want to join the army but graduating his eye he could not join. Paticence 's brother is a spy and he is injured and he want Nathaniel and Paticence to go and meet the mistress of Napoleon. Paticence does not want Nat help, she want to do it own her own. Can she do or will she learn that it take two to win? Okay story.
4 1/2 Stars! Book two of the Rogues of Redmere series. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone. Patience the only girl has always envied her brothers freedom. She makes no apologies for wearing men's clothing and preferring hunting to playing piano and embroidering. Nathaniel a second son has a reputation as a rogue as he has no responsibility to marry. They are forced to work together and I enjoyed their banter and the way their relationship grew. I really liked this short and sweet novella with HEA.
Lord Nathaniel Kingsley is called upon to take Patience’s brother’s place posing as a married couple to talk with Napoleon’s former mistress and who could have information to help the war efforts. They can’t stand each other and he thinks he could never be attracted to a woman who runs around in breeches. But they spend time together on this trip and working undercover and he discovers there is more to her than what she wears. There were plenty of funny, sexy, romantic, and suspenseful moments in this historical romance. I loved the pet sheep.
Nate and Patience. Initially, Patience really bothered me. She was tasked with doing something potentially dangerous for her brother and kept insisting that she could go to another town all by herself, and didn't need anyone's help. I lost count of the number of times she told Nate this. Once I got past this, the book was pretty good. I loved Nate, and I liked the progression of how he saw and reacted to Patience.
Patience does not live up to her name, but that makes for a good story! Intrigue, romance, crossdressing, sassy sheep, and more. I love that the hero, Nate, wears glasses. I enjoyed that both characters had perceived and actual relationships with their families. "Clean romance" until the last chapters. A very satisfying read, I will look for more in the series--Red and Hannah sound fun!
I loved the artful and riveting combination of romance and intrigue. I liked Patience's tenacity, bravery and sense of independence. Nate was absolutely her perfect counterpart. It was so much fun watching Nate try to establish himself as the chivalrous protector while Patience, proudly and unapologetically, strove at every turn to usurp that role and "wear the breeches" in more ways than one!

Patience is a force of character that is hard to deal with. Nate is a gorgeous man that certainly has the fortitude and insight to handle Patience. They're carried through the espionage with the French, and fall in love, results that makes this a wonderful book.
Exciting story of a Rogue and an unusual young lady
Loved the story of breeches wearing young Patience and her exciting rogue. Intrigue, romance, passion and suspense are intertwined within the pages of this book, making it an enjoyable experience. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
Enjoyed the book. It was well written and a great read. I loved Patience and Nate’s interaction with each other and how they had to work together for the good of England and found that there was more to the other one than meets the eye. There is a HEA but it takes awhile for them to acknowledge they are in love. I would recommend this book for a great read. P.S. I love the nameless sheep.
