Caleb Crane is a ripped and protective vampire who knows exactly what he wants. And what he wants is the sexy young lawyer, Abby March, who just showed up in Hollywood.
And then something shocking emerges from Abby's past that changes everything. A secret so dark, she can't hide from it or run away any longer. Will Caleb stay and fight for Abby, or will her shocking secret ruin everything?
Compulsively readable, Viper is a passionate, enthralling vampire romance and a must-read for paranormal fiction fans.
This is Book One in the Vampires of Hollywood series, and it’s also a great standalone alpha male romance with a HEA, No Cheating, and No Cliffhanger. This story is steamy, spicy, sexy, and hot. You’ve been warned…
Madisyn is a USA Today Bestselling contemporary and paranormal romance author. She is the winner of the BEA Writer's Award, and is an active member of the Romance Writers of America (RWA).
She writes stories about alpha males and the strong women who love them. Her characters are billionaires, vampires, shifters, time-travelers, and small-town American good guys.
I am giving a five star rating, because this book was excellent. I loved the story. I loved the characters. I thought the writing was excellent. I enjoyed how the two main characters met, that was quite interesting, along with other scenes. This is quite a sexual book, just in case that bothers you. The book flows along smoothly and I was so engrossed in it, that all of a sudden it was over, I was thinking (it just started). However, when I looked at the clock I was quite surprised to see a bit more than 3 hours had gone by. I highly recommend this book. Omg now onto the next book, I can't wait.
Abby March is living in the Hollywood Hills with her childhood friend/actress Natalie Thorn. She has recently graduated from law school & passed the bar exam & is currently looking for work as a lawyer in LA. While chasing Natalie's cat into the neighbor's backyard, Abby finds herself face to face with a gorgeous breathtaking naked man. He is the well known director, Caleb Crane & had just been swimming in his pool. After a few awkward moments of staring, Abby remember she is there for the cat & goes to take him home. The next day, Abby is surprised to find a job offer from the mysterious Caleb to go over his movie contracts. Abby hesitates at first but talks herself into taking the job. Caleb doesn't hide the fact that he wants Abby both professionally & physically. Yet she resists his advances not wanting to get involved with her boss. When Natalie suggests they check out a new night club Abby agrees to go. When they run into Caleb at the night club, Abby witnesses something that tells her she as stumbled onto a reality she has wanted to forget since the prior summer. She doesn't want to remember what she saw then & she wants to run from what it means she saw now. But Caleb is determined to have her but will he be able to catch her?
Being a fan of both erotic romances & vampire stories, it is a treat when the two collide. This story is about falling for a vampire & all the hot sex that goes with it. It is the first book in a series & I look forward to reading more about these Hollywood Vampires. This book is meant for mature readers.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.
Omg, where to begin. I really loved this book, and the characters are definitely a hit, Viper is definitely knowing who he wants and he will go to any means to get Abby. I will be back to read more by Author Madisyn Monroe. *****5 STARS*****
This is a very provocative story for the first book in this series, and the first book for me to read from this author. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.
Ms Ashmore's writing style is infused with sexual tension and gratification with the main characters within the pages. She introduces the right amount of emotional turmoil that is very impressive. The pace was fast and flowed well throughout the story. I felt the plot needed more substance. The sexual component was off the charts.
Abby is a new lawyer looking for a job. She is staying with a long time friend in Hollywood. One night while looking for friends' pet, she meets Caleb. She is sexually drawn to him. The next thing she knows, she is offered in a job with Caleb. Trying to work, she realizes that she is attracted to him and it bothers her. They will embark on a sexual relationship that draws them closer. Secrets will be revealed that will draw both of them towards danger thats lurking in the background. What happens next you might ask? You need to get the book, read it, and then you can decide.
I recommend this book to readers who love Vampires and other supernatural creatures with a heavy dose of sexuality.
I received a gifted ARC and chose to voluntarily write this honest review.
The book started out good, but the plot wasn't properly planned out and it was very superficial. The dialogue left me irritated, because every other sentence was beautiful and sexy.
The characters did not have realistic conversations or situations. For example, (slight spoiler)
At one point the h finds her friend and bf were attacked and after she finds out she has a weird conversation with her friend about her own situation and then she goes for a run. I was like wtf?
So just to wrap it up. This book will leave you with a lot of WTF moments. Because the reactions and actions to situations in the story make zero sense.
This book was a huge thorn in my kindle's side. While I loved the outline, and the strong female lead. It soon all fell dead for me. No pun intended . It felt as if it was an unedited book I read. I felt as if I had gotten the outline book , where all the idea were. There was times when the H/h be talking and she ask a question , then in the next paragraph she ask it again like she didn't remember asking the first time. And he is falling for her, must have her, will do anything for her. YET he won't freakin tell her anything about it. How old he is, about his life , nothing. YET, he he will do anything for her.... Then the end when the bad guy comes a calling, it was so anticlimactic. Sadly not the greatest first impression for me. Reviewed by GypsyBelle * I purchased a copy of this book*
I started this last night, before bed and decided at 10% that I didn't want to finish it. But stopping meant going to sleep, since it was too late to choose another book, so I kept reading until I was ready to sleep. Now, in the light of day, I can't take anymore and I'm not picking it up past where I got last night.
The book is just bad, poorly written, badly edited, repetitive, inconsistent in both the characters and the plotting, etc. Plus, the sex scenes just...just.....well...."He clenched his teeth and snarled, his body shaking as the orgasm rocketed through his body and into mine, spilling out my seams with his sweet, fragrant cum." Sweet, fragrant cum? 'What is it, febreeze,' is literally what I said to myself. No more, 60% is as much of my time as it gets.
When Abby moved in with her friend Natalie (an actress) in the Hollywood hills, never in her wildest dreams did she think about meeting the man next door. It happened by accident when she went looking for her friends cat. She wondered into his back yard and found him getting out of the pool naked as a the day he was born. His name was Caleb and was a huge celebrity movie maker. One of the movies he made was called Viper. Not giving anything else away, I loved it. I can't wait to read the next book. You are going to love it! I couldn't put the book down.
DNF at 58% I really tried to get into this but just couldn't get on with the story or the characters, I will try and come back but for now it's not for me.

REVIEW: 3.5 stars--VIPER is the first installment in Madisyn Ashmore’s contemporary, adult VAMPIRE OF HOLLYWOOD erotic, paranormal romance series. This is Hollywood director Caleb Crane, and lawyer Abby March’s story line.
Told from first person point of view (Abby) VIPER focuses on the building relationship between Hollywood director and vampire Caleb Crane, and lawyer Abby March. Abby is a new lawyer struggling to find employment in the cut-throat city of Hollywood, California. Living with her best friend and movie star Natalie allows Abby the time to search for the perfect job. But meeting Natalie’s neighbor, the infamous and sexy Caleb Crane, throws all of Abby’s good senses out the door. When Caleb offers Abby the position of his new legal advisor Abby will soon learn there is something different about the man with whom she will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between human and vampire, and Caleb’s need to protect Abby from a potential threat from her past.
The attraction between Abby and Caleb is immediate but Abby knows there is something different about Caleb Crane. Our heroine is aware that vampires exist, and she suspects the man with whom she is falling in love may be the one of the creatures of the night. Caleb is a vampire who struggles to keep hidden his attraction to his new employee but there is something about Abby that lures Caleb to the woman that calls to his heart. When Abby’s life is threated, Caleb knows that the only way to keep her safe is to bring her to the ‘dark side’. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense without the use of sexually graphic, over the top language and text.
Throughout the story Caleb tends to keep secret much of his past and in this I struggled because we learn very little about the man who is the focus on the story. I was hoping to learn a little bit more about the man in question.
We are introduced to Abby’s best friend and roommate Natalie-a super star in Hollywood, and a woman whose romantic interest is a man not unlike our story line hero. Ansel Walker is an actor whose previous relationship with Natalie was destroyed by alcohol and drugs. There are a number of secondary and supporting characters including the beautiful Sophie Richards, Caleb’s housekeep Emiko, and the Queen of the vampires Reina. The requisite evil comes from another supernatural creature-the Lycan-who are out to destroy the vampires and all they hold dear.
VIPER is a vampire story with some similarities to Twilight including the relationship between Abby and Caleb that cannot be ignored. The premise is entertaining and spicy; the characters are familiar but colorful; the romance is fated and passionate. VIPER is a provocative and sexy look at vampires, romance and the Hollywood machine.
So, there is more sex than a love store in this book. If you took parts of TRUE BLOOD (TV SHOW), Underworld Movies and Twilight Movies, you pretty much got this book. I can't say too much more about this book without giving too much away. I even found myself jumping over the sex just to get to other parts of the book. Yes, there is some romance in it. It was touching in some parts. Nat gets a bit of a wake up call about her old flame and so does Abby. In fact, I'm hoping we see what happens to Derek in the next book. Yeah, there is the vampire Queen in the book...who shows up twice. Oh and nice name...reminded me a bit of the TV show again. Nice book but more sex than a love story and that's saying something right there! Is it worth 2.99? HELL NO. If you can get it for .99 but it. Mine is going back because I need the space for other books on my kindle.
Read it in one sitting. I loved her descriptions in this book! It starts off capturing your attention and I just had to find out what would happen. Would recommend!
This is the first time I've read anything from this author and while I didn't hate it, it kinda didn't wow me a great deal with a story line that I feel I've read numerous other times. It was told in the 1st person POV (Abby) so straight up for me if feels like you don't get to know the other main character as much. Because of this I didn't really warm up to Caleb until much later in the book, seems very arrogant. We didn't really get enough background from him, lots of secrets though. I feel that Abby took Caleb as being a vampire way to easily, yes she had brief previous experience, but it seemed to simple. She wasn't really a stand out character and I felt her best friend certainly overshadow her. Natalie was a much more interesting character for me. The ending was a bit glossed over and predictable so unfortunately didn't end on a high. Overall though it was easy enough to read. I received an ARC with no obligation to leave my honest review.
An addicting story of paranormal beings that go bump in the night. Loved it. Suspense, adventure, and romance. What more could a good story ask for?
Living with an actress has its perks. No rent and all you can eat food with lavish parties thrown in for good measure. The guys are hot for the most part. And said actress is her besti also. But what Abby wants is to find a job since finally passing her bar exam. And it seems like all of Hollywood isn't hiring anyone at all. That is until her besti Natalie tells her Caleb is looking for an attorney to help with legal affairs for his company. And he wants her. But it all sounds fishy to Abby. Why would the man want a fresh wet behind the ears attorney? Can she keep her feelings for the man out of the business arrangement? And why does she lose her senses when ever she is around him?

I read this hot, steamy book in less than 4 hours and loved it! No sparkly vampires here. Just ripped, sexy and mysterious vamps. I enjoyed the plot line. I think the author did an excellent job with the plot twists. A very enjoyable read!
Great book! I read Vampires of Hollywood with lightening speed as the words drew me in, I just couldn't stop. This story about Abby and Caleb was intoxicating and scorching hot. I was so hoping it would end the way it did, very exciting! Looking forward to book 2.
I give Vampires of Hollywood 4 stars for its scorching hot read. I would recommend this book to adults.
Viper is an interesting start for this series and I am curious to see where it goes from here. It is a bit slow and dragged out at times and Abby was a bit too wishy-washy for my tastes, but it did hold my interest and was an easy read, which is why I gave it four stars.
I think I found this book to be okay....."I think", being the key part of that sentence.
I downloaded this as free ebook (not sure where from) and I won't lie, I had incredibly low expectations for this book, in terms of quality when it came to the writing, and description. This is a really quick read. If you want something that is very plot driven with very deep layered characters, then this is not for you. However if you want something light weight, fairly entertaining, with sex and vampires in various states of undress, then this may just be what you are looking for.
I wasn't expecting this to be a piece of literary genius and a future classic, and it's not; so no complaints from me on this point. I expected vampires, check got those. I expected said vampires to described as "the hottest guy you had ever seen", double check. The book is set in Hollywood, so I expected a shallow actor/actress character, we can check that off the list too. I also wasn't surprised to find sex scenes thrown in at every available opportunity. The one thing that I didn't expect this book to be was well written, and I was surprised to find that it was. I know some people thought that there was too much in the way of description, and personally I didn't find the amount of description an issue; I think that if there was less description in this book then people would complain that there wasn't enough, so I guess it's just personal preference. I thought that the descriptions were well written and allowed you to build a clear image in your head of the setting; as well as the overall writing style having a good flow to it and being fairly gripping. I can't deny that this was quite the page turner, and very easy to get caught up in. I think the only minor issues I have with this book is that Abby seems to have mood swings that could give you whiplash at times.
So, I gave this book 4 stars because I got exactly what I expected from it and wasn't disappointed, and therefore I think I found it to be okay. If you want something quick with sexy vampires, then look no further.
*I received a free ARC of Venom, and bought Viper to read first. The decision to review and my opinions are my own.*
These books are touted on Amazon as ‘Twilight meets 50 Shades of Grey’, and I feel that is an accurate description, as I was definitely reminded of both those series while I was reading.
That is not to say that Madisyn Monroe doesn’t have something new. Her world where vampires can have highpowered jobs in the public gaze, exclusive nightclubs and hotels, and yet still remain secret from the general populace due to their wealth and influence, is an interesting blend of the Cullen/Grey dynamic and one that works in her context.
Abby is a more dynamic main character than either Ana or Bella, arguing back and standing up for herself against Caleb’s dominant Alpha male shenanigans. However this does mainly follow trope as, despite her protests, she still tends to give in to Caleb’s will eventually due to his smouldering sex-god powers.
The sex is steamy and straightforward, which made up somewhat for my main quibble which is that the main characters seem unnecessarily insecure about themselves, their looks, their positions and most of all, their burgeoning relationship. There is a small amount of genuine external plot conflict in terms of other supernatural beings, exes popping up and so on, but a large proportion of the tension is jealousy or irrational insecurity from one of the two leads, leading to unreasonable, childish behaviour and communication failures.
However, generally the books are a fun, easy read, and do what they are supposed to for their target audience, so if you are a fan of Twilight-for-grownups, or 50 Shades of Vampires, then these books should be right up your street. Do not buy if you are offended by words like ‘cock’ and ‘fuck’ however. The language is very direct and the sexual content is, naturally, explicit.
I don't leave Spoilers. This is the second book I have read by Madisyn Ashmore, the first one I was not enthusiastic about because the steamy loving. Lol. I felt interrupted with the storyline to much. In fact reading Viper, I didn't realise it was by the same author. This book had a good interesting storyline which yes once again, there was a lot of steamy loving going on, but it didn't distract from the storyline, in fact I actually wanted my own vampire god like celeb, and yes I would have let him turn me to stop all the drooling it invoked in me. Another plus was the main character didn't appear like a size.4. This story was told in the first person which is what I personally prefer. It had a well defined beginning middle and end, with sometimes that edge-on-a-seat kind of quality. However well defined this was, I was disappointed the ending was so abrupt, it may have been a Cliff hanger, as I didn't see it as the end of Celeb and Abby's story, so hopefully we will hear from them again. It was easy to envisage all the places the story took place in, but not to much information it distracted from the storyline. In Viper Madisyn Ashmore gave me the emotions of her characters, I could feel them as my own, which is a talent for any author to accomplish. This book gives vulnerability, insecurity, mystery alongside strength, determination, friendship, love, amongst many other feelings. No not those cheeky, well actually yes a lot of those, but it enhanced this story. Would I recommend this book. Yes I would. I'm glad I blindly read and enjoyed this book because now I look forward to reading more from Madisyn Ashmore
What an addicting, adventurous thrill ride of a book!!! I loves this book and I couldn't stop reading this, from the first sentence right up to the last that leaves you aching for more of this world and the people in it!!!
I love the way that this author writes this story, there are so many unknowns, so many secrets that as a reader you need to find out what they are and this is one of the reasons I found this book so addictive and compelling!!! The storyline is so vivid in its descriptions making you feel like you are in that world with the characters, experiencing everything alongside them, not only that but it is so imaginative making this story so brilliant.
I loves the characters in this book. I adored reading about Abby! I love her personality and her inner strength and fire that she has but doesn't show very often. She is a bit of a bookworm which is always a plus but I loved seeing her come out of her shell and embrace her deeply passionate nature!!! Caleb is a definite enigma, so secretive about who he is and his past, I get the impression that he doesn't think he is capable of love but he is an intensely passionate and loving man who cares deeply about those close to him and is very protective. I loved reading about him and can't wait to read more about him!!!
I can't recommend this book highly enough and I am am excited to read the next book!!!!
Abby was an idiot. I hated this being in only her POV. Drove me insane. Abby spit out so much rubbish. Telling Natalie that she didn’t like being touched, when Natalie suggested a mani pedi. Yet the night before, she rushed from work to get a bikini wax. Ridiculous writing. Abby sees Caleb with a gorgeous blonde in an alley at a club in an intimate position and she leaves the club without confronting him. Several days later when they finally discussed it, Caleb tells her it’s none of her business and the blonde is in his life but not romantically. Does Abby pop him one? No. She lets him kiss her. Such crap. I’m sure all throughout the book she constantly described his tight, muscular body in and out of clothes, as well as her perky breast and perfectly rounded hips. Probably but I wouldn’t know because I DNF! I tried, but there really wasn’t a story. I kept hoping someone would die or something. Nothing but drivel. I do not recommend. Waste of time. No story here.
In my opinion, this book may have started with best hook ever:
“I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you wet.” His voice was husky, dark, and dangerous.
I wanted to be able to give this book 5 stars, but there was one issue which caused me to deduct ½ star, so it really rates 4½ stars.
Overall, this was a really good book, with few typos, well-developed characters, and an enthralling plot. My problem was that there were too many times that I was pulled from the story as I tried to decipher a scene. I would think that Caleb and Abby were facing each other, and then he'd kiss the back of her neck. Or, I'd think they were on opposite sides of them room and then he'd be whispering in her ear. I understand vampires are often depicted as having super-human speed, but it was never mentioned so I just found it disconcerting and confusing. On a side note, I was a little disturbed by the idea of Abby “bursting at the seams” because Caleb was so big.
Other than that, and it may just be me, I really enjoyed the book and I'm looking forward to book 2. I recommend it.
This book was a total waste of time it started out with what seemed like would be an okay read but not that great then it turned into an on going sex a thon and God help me that man told her she was beautiful at least 5 times per chapter and she was an insecure needy irritating thing I'm sorry this book really isn't worth my time or yours even the sex scenes were so eye rolling boring the first time they had sex I wasn't sure if he was trying to kill her or what then from them on its oh your beautiful , you're perfection, you're amazing god someone gag me! Once in a while is okay it's sweet but every other page come on!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It's well written, entertaining, fast paced, hot and steamy. The great plotline tied me up 'til the end.
There are twists in the story and so many questions pop up and You have to find out the answers, so there is no chance to put the book down.
The characters are well-developed and you would really like to get to know all their secrets.
This is my first read from Madisy but definitly not my last, I'm so looking forward to the next book in the series. So go ahead and buy, you won’t be sorry.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Good storyline. Very descriptive except that they start in a position but then are said to actually be in a different position physically. Standing, sitting, here, over there. Ugh hard to keep things straight. The friendship is weak at best. Hate that. Doesn't mention either girl's past really. Poof no families I guess. The lead girl is annoying. The writer makes her essentially a doll that does most of what it's told. She doesn't seem to really have any thoughts or desires other than food and sex. Sex seems to rule her almost above all else.
