About the author

Angela Roberts was born and educated on the Isle of Man (I’ll help you out – it’s the one in the middle, nowhere near Isle of Wight!) before gaining a degree in French and business studies.
After an eight year career in marketing, she swapped the glitz and glamour of international travel for a keyboard and a classroom, dividing her time between teaching French and writing novels.
Her island upbringing has influenced her writing in many ways, none more so than with her first published novel The Fear of Flying Club (apparently being an aerophobe when you live on tiny rock in the middle of the Irish Sea is not particularly convenient).
In addition to writing novels, Angela enjoys writing lifestyle articles and short stories (one of which ironically won her two return flights to Paris).

I came by Angela Roberts novel 'The Fear of Flying Club' because it was published by Pillar International Publishing who have also just published a book of mine, so I was curious about Angela's work. I found myself laughing out loud several times, and I can tell you for certain that I'm not a 'lol' person. But actually, Angela is not only a very observant writer, but I feel she must be a very funny woman and this shows clearly in her writing; she can conjure up some vivid and beautifully funny moments.
The characters in the book are all strongly defined and so believable that you feel you could bump into them on the street. There is a huge amount of empathy and kindness in this book as well, and I found myself really liking that fact and into the bargain it's a pleasingly structured book. However, there was a certain moment, about 20% away from the actual ending that I thought would've been a better ending, but then I think that about 90% books I read - literary or genre.
I really think 'The Fear of Flying Club' could be made into an excellent film similar in sentiment and tone to 'The Full Monty' or 'The Commitments,' and I hope that a film maker does pick it up. Or, it would be terrific as a series on TV. I also hope that Angela writes another novel, and keeps on going and maybe develops a distinct style of telling a story so that you know before you've read the title that you're reading an Angela Roberts novel.

An outstanding book from an outstanding author

I met Angela at a fair on the Isle of Man and we immediately started talking about books. I had seen this in my "you might like to read" and yes I did! The book has the main issue of a fear of flying and a course that brings them all together to get over their fear. But the book really revolves round the lives of the members of this course and why they are there.

An absolutely beautiful book and I can't wait for the next one.

Really lovely funny story that is hard to put down - laugh out loud funny at times, especially if you are not the keenest on flying - there is so much you will recognise in yourself in the characters, and some moments that move you to tears. Great read, loved it! Great Christmas present if you know anyone who is scared of flying - I would have loved to have this bought for me!
