Men of Mercy #6

Relentless River

Rate this book
He was Ice.

Sheriff Bo Lawson was everything a retired Marine Special Operations Operator should be. Cold. Calculating. Calm in all situations. He handled terrorists and too drunk locals without blinking, until a couple of dead bodies show up in his small town, throwing his controlled environment into chaos.

She was fire.

Cheri Boudreaux, manager of the local bar, lives her life by one rule – work hard and play harder. The last thing she needs is a repeat of her father: a strict stick-in-the-mud unable to veer from the rules. Then she meets Bo, a walking, talking sex god in uniform and her preconceived notions incinerate.

Ice meets fire.

Bo craves order. He craves control. He craves a red head with a wild streak wider than the Mississippi. She is everything he despises, but can’t get off his mind. So, when Cheri needs help, he wants to be her knight in shining armor.
Threatened by a deadly foe neither of them could predict, Bo and Cheri clash in an uncontrollable inferno. When the truth is revealed, their world falls apart – can they find the strength to fight for each other or will their newfound love fall under a relentless tide of evil?

Finally Sheriff Bo and Cherie hook up. This book has nothing to do with the missing girls of the previous books or the bad they are chasing. It's all about the town of Mercy.

There's another dead body found in Mercy, and Sheriff Bo Lawson vowed to put a stop to it. A former Marine Special Operations Operator, Bo had it bad when he blamed himself for his team's death. Now he would do everything to catch the criminal threatening his town. Even if his lady love was involved.

Cheri Boudreaux managed a local bar that was always a target for trouble. She's got men vying for her attention, but her sight was only focused on one man alone. Cheri was a tempest, with a dark family secret. Seriously, this woman could do all things to Bo, seduce him, stimulate him, antagonize him. And in all those attempts, she always succeeded. Except that one time when she got shot by a bullet and her cousin was pursued by a cunning murderer.

So far, the last book I've read in the Men of Mercy series was Revenge River, and boy it was action-packed and marvelous. Nightshade and Merc left a lasting impression on me. So when I learned about the release of Relentless River, I didn't have second thoughts reading it.

And I wasn't disappointed at all. Lindsay Cross still has it, ten books and counting!

I loved Sheriff Bo's character. He was indeed relentless but Cheri had full control of him. Bo and his uptight demeanor towards Cheri made him more irresistible like a pint of ice cream under a hot sunny day. Lickable!

The drug-related issues and murders were really the main focus of the story and I liked that it was tackled at length throughout the book. Now the erotic scenes between the characters, though, hmm, those were something else. Definitely hot and spicy!

Looking forward to reading more of these Men of Mercy in the next months to come. Can't wait to meet Riser's match!

As always this is one of my most favorite series of books and Lindsay Cross is one of my favorite authors. This is Bo and Cheri's book, which could be read as a stand alone, but I would recommend reading the entire series.

Bo and Cheri have been doing the push pull of flirting for a few books now and they both have different roles in this dance.

Cheri has a thing for Bo that she wishes she didn't after all of his rejection, but she just can't get her heart to give up. He also is the last man she should want. But want him she does.

Bo likes Cheri and he can't let her know. He must maintain control, at all times, because when he doesn't bad things happen. Really bad things. He believes in control but Cheri is the epitome of uncontrollable. But he will always protect her.

In this book, Cheri is torn between the way she feels for Bo and the love and the need to protect her cousin, Lamont. Also, a person from her past shows up and she while she and Bo are in the bar. One she wished she never had to see again, thought she'd never see again.

Bo can tell something is very wrong when a man from Cheri's past shows up. He can tell that she isn't happy to see who walked in the door and immediately reacts.

Can their survive being together? Cheri and Bo both have secrets and those secrets are what drive them. Will he really be able to protect her?

The blurb for this book sounded great.  I mean,  who doesn't like a dark, mysterious brooding hero and a strong feisty heroine?

I liked the book and the storyline  but it seemed everyone knew the H and h had feelings for each other - like the world's worst kept secret!

The storyline has promise but I found a few holes in it.  Yes,  you don't want every little detail written about but there are some things that need to be mentioned before they are reflected upon at a later date eg when Cheri and Bo first hook up at the bar,  before bring rudely interrupted by Frankie there is nothing mentioned about orgasms - just intense feelings.  Then later when Cheri is reflecting on this she mentions an intense orgasm.  Orgasms are the piece of information that you always expect to be mentioned in a romance book!

From two deep characters who have created different personas for themselves the love they felt for each other was instant. I would've expected more fun and games and rolls in the hay before the declarations of love came along.  My idea of dark,  broody guys is they don't love easily,  no matter how strong the attraction and that was my idea of Bo.

I am aware the copy I got was an unedited ARC so with a few more edits,  I think it would become a stronger book.  I always like a HEA and this book did not disappoint.

At time I felt we were introduced to too many sideline characters. I know it isn't easy writing a series and you have to lay down a plot and mention incidental characters to build the scene and subsequent storyline.  I liked the characters of CW and Squirrel (although not a lot mentioned about the latter) and I hope they get more comedic parts through the the series.

I would also be inclined to read future books of the series as I like crime and I like romance and the two together make a romance more exciting.

Sheriff Bo Lawson is trying to find a killer in his town. He is use to having control of a situation. Cheri makes him crazy but at the same time he can not deny the pull she has over him. When Cheri life is in danger he wants to be her protector. Will he keep her safe?

I enjoyed this story. I enjoyed the banter between Bo and Cheri. It had action and few twists to it. I had a feeling where it was headed but did not feel they were the right fit at first. There story was a bit different compared to the rest of this series.

So many errors

This book was rushed and made no sense. It really had no point in the series. Scenes lacked meaning, the character development was terrible and none of the men of mercy showed up. Except Riser and he played a tiny role. Bo was confusing wanting boring librarians with order. Yet he was a dominant?! Ummm, okay. Cheri was spunky and outspoken, very flirtatious yet innocent?! I can't with this train wreck story. I hate writing negative reviews, but I've been binging on this series and suddenly got ripped off. I need the REAL men of Mercy. The TF-S and the alpha men rescuing damsels in distress.
Very rushed, unedited, rough story that had no place in this series.

Sheriff Bo Lawson is a retired Marine Special Operations Operator where he was known as Ice - calm and collected under pressure. His small town doesn't have much going on until a dead body washes up and the man is connected to a very dangerous man.

Cheri Boudreaux is the manager of the local bar and has a small crush on the Sheriff who keeps giving her tickets for her driving. She lives with her cousin Lamont who protected her in the past from a dangerous situation and the two are super close. Yet as he gets involved with a married women Cheri shows her disapproval.

As Bo and Cheri are faced with their respective feelings for one another, Cheri's brother Frankie comes to town and soon it is clear that Cheri's own life is in danger. Can Bo keep her safe when all of a sudden his "ice" demeanor is tested by his heart?

This is another amazing book in the Men of Mercy series. I have loved Sheriff Bo Lawson for a long time now and I am so glad he has received his own book!

I loved Bo's struggle in this book with doing his job and protecting Cheri. There was one moment when he had a huge decision to make and I'm glad he chose the right way and I agree with his decision although he definitely beat himself up over it. He pushed Cheri away when he felt like he made some wrong decisions and it shows how much his heart came into play in this book.

Cheri was a little firecracker and I thought she was a great addition! I loved how much she detested Ginger and her relationship with Lamont. Cheri also didn't want to appear weak and even though to a certain extent she was in over her head at the bar she didn't want to let anyone down so she did her best but I wish she would have asked for some help! She really loved Lamont and I wasn't surprised at how far she went to protect him, even though it put her own life in danger. I was mad though that there was no more mention of Frankie as nothing was resolved there.

I really liked the end and how things came together!

I was hoping to get to see more of the other characters in this book from the series besides Riser but I'm hoping that this means that the next book belongs to Riser.

This one doesn’t actually follow what’s going on with the Men of Mercy and them trying to capture the traitorous “Mr. J," but a few of the characters do show up in this book.

Cheri and Bo have a lot of chemistry, but battle back and forth like cats and dogs. Sometimes it was entertaining, sometimes it was annoying as hell. Cherie wanted to rebel against the way she was raised by her preacher father so bad, she’d break all the rules and laws to do it. Not only that, but her older brother shows up and he’s as bad as her father. What a jackass!

In the previous books though, I remember Cherie as being quite a little firecracker, but in this story, her constant need to be difficult grated on my nerves sometimes.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Bo seemed wound a bit tight in the previous books, but here, there were many times I actually felt sorry for him and what he had to put up with, including Cherie.

"Bo glared at her, silently warning her to keep quiet. In response, she did the mature thing and stuck out her tongue before giving him her back and resuming her ministrations to Riser. Bo clenched his teeth so hard he was surprised they didn't crack in his mouth."

Cherie definitely gave Mr. Law and Order a run for his money. And what was that with the drug dealer?! When you know someone is a ruthless criminal, you do not mess around and try to take matters into your own hands. Aye! Yi! Yi! Instead of being honest with Bo about her cousin and the trouble that was brewing, she thought handling things herself would work out better?! Honey, please!🙄

And that thing where Bo blames himself for somehow failing her and leaves her with Riser?! Ugh! I wanted to punch his beautiful face!

I know I say this with every review I write for each book in this series, but please, please can we do something about the proofreading? The grammatical errors…😔

Relentless River by Lindsay Cross
Men of Mercy #10

Cheri Boudreaux is one of the strongest female characters I have met in a book recently. She works hard, loves deeply, cares intensely and definitely knows what she wants and that just happens to be Sheriff Bo Lawson. Bo knows that Cheri is the complete opposite in all ways to the women he has been attracted to in the past BUT he does feel a pull…a strong one…to Cheri. The two have been dancing around one another for about a year when things between them come to a head. Secrets are shared, death is defied, family is endangered, true needs are explored and the plot definitely thickens into one delightful story that had me turning pages one after the other to find out what would ultimately happen.

I really liked the characters in this book. I found Cheri to be a woman I would like to know and Bo to be a man I believe I could depend on. I also liked the fact that though there was happiness there was also all too real sadness and pain experienced by both of the main characters. I am eager to find out who will have their story told next. A few names popped up that gave me pause and made me want to see them in future books and those names happen to be Colonel Mack Grey, Riser Malone and his friend Cord to. But, all of the books in this series have been a delight and taken me away so I will look forward to reading whatever comes next.

Thank you to the author for the copy of an ARC to read. This is my honest review.

Within three chapters of starting this book, I could feel the heat of the flames that are happening. Wow! I'm loving my revisit to the Men of Mercy series in Mercy, Mississippi. This time we get to learn more about Cheri Boudreaux. What is going on with her at 'The Wharf'? What is going on outside, for Sheriff Bo? What is he heading to? What is going on in Mercy? Why is it happening? What is Bo going to do about It? This book is definitely smoking from beginning to end with Bo and Cheri. It is also very full of action and emotions. It was a great read, and definitely no lack of attention to the rest of the Men of Mercy series books. There were some huge twists that I did not expect, and some that were pleasantly surprising! Enjoy the read!

Great read by Lindsey, however it is slightly more tame than the other Men of Mercy books. Though that is not to say there isn't action, drama and suspense galore. This is the story of Cheri and Sheriff Bo. Cheri is a bartender at The Wharf and lives her life in the fast lane, and she has been crazy about Bo as long as she has known him. What she doesn't know is that Sheriff Bo Lawson has a dark past and even though he wants her, he doesn't think he is worthy after all he has seen and done. A tumultuous relationship exists between them but when they finally meet in the middle it is explosive! This whole series is one of the best out there, so I would definitely recommend if you like action, suspense and romance:)

Bo Lawson is a retired Marine Special Operations Operator, who just wants a little order in his life, with a side of peace. So he became the Sheriff in a little, sleepy town, where he could peacefully fish more often. His stellar training in the Marines has made him calm, and collected when handling terrorists, or drunk locals, without blinking. But his sleepy town is thrown into serious chaos when two dead bodies show up. Cheri Boudreaux is the manager of the local bar, who lives her life by one rule, work hard, and play harder. She has a wild streak a mile long, and doesn't have the patience for a control freak sheriff, no matter how hot he is. However, they're thrown together, when a threat from a deadly force that neither could have predicted happening. When the truth is finally revealed, will they have enough strength left to fight for each other?!

The more that I read this author, the more that I'm convinced that I need to find the "Rivers" from her book titles, that all of these hot men are hiding! Bo and Cheri were absolutely hysterical together, not to mention, the inferno of chemistry that couldn't do anything but EXPLODE into sexy scene goodness that will light panties up! Lindsay Cross has a very talented writing style that is diabolical, because no matter how many stories I read, I never quite figure out the mystery before all is revealed. So her twists and turns had me dropping f-bombs loudly, since many came out of left field. I CANNOT wait for the next mouth watering hero of hers, as I really need one of my very own, so I'll just end by HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING Relentless River to ALL!

Mercy, Mississippi is not your standard "sunshine and roses" setting for a romance novel. But then, Relentless River isn't a standard romance. It is a gritty, suspenseful novel starring Bo Lawson, Sheriff of Mercy, and Cheri Boudreaux, bartender/manager of The Wharf, the only bar in town.
Bo is ex-Special Ops - a no-nonsense type of guy, with a few control issues and a real serious (unrequited) burn for the rebellious Cheri. He is also trying to keep crime at bay, although the number of dead bodies seem to keep showing up in his town.
Cheri appears to be a "Wild Child", footloose and fancy free. The exact opposite of any woman Bo would want. Her protectiveness towards her ne'er-do-well cousin Lamont, plus her constant striving to singlehandedly run and manage The Wharf put the lie to her image. She has a serious (unrequited) burn for Bo.
The two come together over the discovery of yet another dead body, and Lamont's role in everything.
This is really a well plotted mystery, with a satisfactory ending. The side characters are developed enough that I wanted to read their stories, as well. Any swearing and sexual content was in context with the characters and plot.
Mercy, Mississippi, and its residents, has captured my attention as a world I want to visit again.
I recommend this book, and others in the series.
I did receive an ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

Oh my!!! Bo may just have his hands full with this firecracker! Bo likes order and discipline. He likes to be charge in the bedroom. Cheri is hot tempered, loudmouthed, mouths off before she thinks and refuses to take orders from a man, never again! She has room for only one man in her life, her cousin Lamont who saved her when she need it and she now sees it as her mission to save him from himself and his bad decisions!!!

Then why oh why does she seem to intentionally flout the law and catch the eye of Bo?? Sure he's hot and muscly but she doesn't want order in her life...does she???

But as Bo lets loose the passion he feels for Cheri, bodies are dropping..especially worrying in a town where the worst crime so far is disturbing the peace!! With a hep of family secrets, possible PTSD and a healthy dollop of humour, especially where CW and Squirrel are involved! This is a real roller-coaster ride and I read it in one fell swoop - I could not put it down!

With a really tight storyline which even included the redemption of a cousins skanky girlfriend, this is a surefire hit! With little hints at who may be the next, I'm really interested in the possible relationship between Laney and a certain salt and pepper ex soldier! Riser and Cord are going to be equally fun characters to see fall into the love trap!

Relentless River is a fast moving suspenseful novel, that kept this reader on the edge of her chair. The connection between Bo and Cheri is magnetic and one can only feel Bo's frustration with Cheri when she deliberately pushes the boundaries. When danger encroaches, Bo does his best to protect Cheri but makes a mistake with consequences. Bo is certain the Cheri won't want anything further to do with him, but he doesn't take Cheri's heart into account. As a non-American, British English speaker, I found the grammar and syntax difficult to follow at times, and had to reread some passages to understand the story line. There were also a number of instances when connecting words were absent, necessitating having to reread passages to understand the context. Otherwise a really good read. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Relentless River: Men of Mercy, book 10 by Lindsay Cross is my first experience with this series and author. The book has sizzling chemistry, good amount of action, and will keep the reader on the edge of their seats. It grabs the reader’s attention right from the beginning.

Main characters Sheriff Bo Lawson and Cheri Boudreaux were combustible, strong, well developed characters’ readers will enjoy.

I am rating Relentless River: Men of Mercy, Book 10 by Lindsay Cross with 4.3 stars! The only way I would have rated this higher is if there were not inconsistencies in the story and if it had a little faster pace. I would happily read another Lindsay Cross’ creations.

Lindsay Cross delivers another exciting story! This is the story of Bo Lawson and Cheri Boudreaux. Bo is a retired Marine who becomes Sheriff in a nice, quiet small town. Too bad his luck ran out and it's not quiet anymore!

Bo is strong and sexy and cold as ice. Cheri is feisty and sexy and hot as hell! They are thrown together when their small town becomes dangerous, and they find themselves inexplicably drawn to each other. Of course, it does not help that they are both secretly lusting after each other. Together Bo and Cheri will either triumph against evil or be destroyed by it.

Fast paced and exciting story! Well-written and complex plot with a twist. Strong, sexy, well-developed and interesting characters. This is a book not to be missed! This book was a winner for me! Very highly recommended!

A Sheriff and a bartender

Cheri is the manager of the only bar in town. She has had her eye on the Sheriff since she met him. Sheriff Bo Lawson is attracted to Cheri but she is not the kind of woman he usually dates. When a body is found in the river, Bo has to figure out what’s going on in his little town. When a major drug dealer is in town, Cheri’s cousin and only family she has, is somehow involved. Cheri is accidentally shot and Bo realizes his feelings for her and will do anything to protect her.
Steamy, action, and suspense. It starts out in the present, then goes back to a little while before the body is found, and then the end is back in the present. I’m not fond of stories that do that but this is a great book and I couldn’t put it down.

Straight-laced, predicable and bland Sheriff Bo Lawson has too many dead bodies to deal with in his jurisdiction lately. Luckily colorful, family-oriented bar manager Cheri Boudreaux, the bane of his existence and balm that could soothe Bo’s savage ailments, if only Bo’d admit he’s head over boots for her.

While Bo tries to uncover secrets he’s convinced Cheri’s holding onto for her cousin and the depth of his involvement, Cheri’s trying to keep that same cousin out of the clutches of the man-hungry wife of a jealous drunk. Also, the most notorious criminal in the area is digging in deeper despite Bo’s best efforts. Overall, this reader wasn’t a fan of the pacing and flow of this outing¸ causing difficulties connecting with the story and characters.

Great story!

All the Men of Mercy books are awesome and this new one, Bo's story is no exception! If you've read this series then you've seen Bo and Cheri interact before. These two are like oil and water and I loved to watch Cheri get under Bo's skin! He wanted to throttle her so bad! Pulling her over for speeding had me laughing out loud! This book has some intense drama, some laugh out loud moments and some hot sex! There's nothing else you could ask for in a book!

I love this series and Lindsay Cross always finds the perfect strong women for these scarred alpha men. It really is what makes these books so delightfully delicious! I cannot wait to see who's falling next.

This book is great read. This story has secrets, mystery, suspense and hot steamy romance. I was pulled in from the beginning. Cheri is sassy and a strong woman. Bo is sexy alpha that likes to be in control and wants to protect what's his. Bo has been fighting the strong attraction between him and Cheri. When they finally give in the sparks are explosive and the chemistry is off the charts. Can Bo protect Cheri and the town when danger comes to their town? I loved the characters. Great addition to the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.

WOW romance, suspense, heartache and dominate men....what more could you ask for. Bo is the sheriff he lives by the rules, he cares about the law and the people of his down but believes he has seen and lived to much darkness to find happiness and love. Cheri appears carefree, wild and sex driven running from the painful family life. I never guessed some of what happened and was surprised but my respect for her cousin grew. Despite obstacles and pain they find each other and heal many old and new wounds. This was a great story

Finally, the sheriff's story!

I'm so happy to finally get to the sheriff's story! This is the eighth book in "Men of Mercy" series. As much as I looked forward to reading book I was a little disappointed. I know I marked the book as four stars, but it's more like 3 1\2 stars. I don't know if I got a bad edit but some of the scenes didn't add up for me. Things mentioned that I didn't remember reading, sending back to re read parts of the book just left me confused. I liked the characters in this story and the story line but some things just didn't add up for me.

Fantastic

I have read all the books in this series and love each one of them. Action packed with alpha men and their love of strong women. But THIS ONE, oh my, this one has won my heart! It is my fav. It is actioned packed but Bo Lawson is so freaking strong and sexy that I believe he could melt plastic! Great characters, great character building world, and stupid barn burning sex...I just couldn’t put it down and read it in one day! Looking forward to the next in this series!

Lindsay Cross books have become an automatic read for me. I know I will not only be entertained but will fall into the story and hate for it to end! This one was just another great ride. Although I love the books based more on the Seals, this one was a good story that brought in some characters seen from some of the other books. I enjoyed it and encourage you to read them all!

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Relentless River by Lindsay Cross.....I loved this book and it had so much suspense and sexy times, it had me flipping pages. This story starts with a bang continues until the last word. I am so in love with Bo, he is a new book boyfriend. Cheri is a beautiful woman that pushes Bo's buttons. I enjoyed seeing this story unfold between Bo and Cheri. If you are looking for an exciting book you need to read this one. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Opposites attract!

Bo is straight-laced and always follows the rules. Cheri is a wild child who hates rules. Each one has a past that shaped who they've become. They both have to give a little to make their relationship work. When bodies start showing up, Bo finds that Cheri and her cousin are involved. Can he save her before it's too late? Another great addition to the Men of Mercy series!
