I slapped him hard—and by mistake.

I was in the bar with my friend when I spotted him across the room. I mistook him for someone else, the guy who cheated on my friend and made her cry, so I marched over there to give him a piece of my mind—with my palm. The anger got the best of me and I slapped him over and over—and he didn’t stop me. In fact, he smirked like he actually enjoyed it. Then his masculine words snapped me out of my rage. “You’ve got the wrong guy, sweetheart.”

Turns out, he’s Calloway Owens, rich-as-sin, built like a brickhouse, and he spends his millions in the sexiest way possible…as a philanthropist. He deserves my slap the least, but he takes it like a man. He’s already out of my league and he should hate me for what I’ve done…but then he asks me out.

He’s the kind of guy that doesn’t say much, but his eyes say everything. Every time he looks at me, he makes me feel buck-naked. He says I’m not his usual type, but doesn’t explain what that means. I try to keep myself grounded, not to get too caught up with this dream hunk, but almost instantly I’m falling so hard…

Not knowing he has a secret that could tear us apart…

I'm not at all certain how I feel about this book. I need time to determine whether it was just okay or I really liked it.

What bothers me the most is how repetitive the story was, the dialogue ran on a loop, the characters had the same introspections from the start through to the end; altogether, same same same.

However, I loved Calloway, the MMC, I wish every man would be as forthcoming with their emotions as he was. Likewise Jade Rome, our FMC, pleasant if slightly boring.

I should love this.

3.5 "Vanilla" Stars

I didn’t read the blurb, I didn’t read any reviews, I just saw the cover and then added it! I said it so you know how I like the cover!

Okay, now about the story! I enjoyed it but it was far from what I expected. I thought it is BDSM but nope! I mean yes, Calloway has a BDSM club but the story itself hadn’t anything like that. It was slow so I think the BDSM part will come in the next installment. I liked Rome so much. She is confident, feisty and bada$$. She runs a small nonprofit. She doesn’t listen to Cal direct orders. Cal is a control freak. He wants to be in control so you can imagine her resistance how affected him but he always found a way to win. But the main problem is whether Cal can live vanilla way or not something we don't know unless we read the next book! So I think this book was something like introductory (to meet with characters and know more about them).

The story is told in dual POV, 1st person. it’s the first installment in "Obsidian" series. It ends with a cliffhanger but not a huge one and I definitely would read the next book.

I am really enjoying this and I like Cal.

You rarely get a good romance that is mostly in the hero’s POV. Cal is a Dom that owns a BDSM club as well as a billionaire Philanthropist Director of a charity. He falls for Rome, a former foster child who also founded her own small nonprofit company though she is very vanilla.

They are both damaged in their own ways and I like that we are seeing this primarily from his point of view. He is taking things slow with her as her boyfriend, not clueing her in to his secrets yet. So it is steamy but not over the top. I am excited for the next book.

Genre: Erotica
Setting: New York
POV: First person, dual

While this book didn't deliver on the BDSM front, there were endless foreplay scenes and some light humor intertwined. I loved the start of this book because there was very little build-up and high, steamy tension, but the characterization leaned more towards the shallow end. There were many similarities in this book that mirrored other BDSM books but this story only skimmed the surface of the thoughts of a dom as he prepared to school a potential submissive.

This story is incomplete and is part of a series.

Don't Buy. Copy Cat Fifty Shades

I can't believe I bought this book. Won't be sucked into the rest of the series. The plot was just like Fifty Shades just the characters were real lame. I don't know a grown man waiting four weeks before he has sex with the girl. Christian Grey didn't wait that long. The author should be ashamed for charging $6.99 for this book.

I'm not a huge fan of BDSM themed books but this one has managed to hit all the right spots, repeatedly. Calloway is a behemoth of repressed hidden anger that is waiting to explode if he can't fully express his dominant desires with the object of his obsession while Rome is a well of broken secrets hungry for exposure.

"His eyes scanned across my face, taking in my eyes and my mouth like I was a work of art rather than a person. He didn’t hesitate to study me, not caring if I noticed. “I’m going to say something, and I want you to accept it without saying a word.”

“Ever since you slapped me, I haven’t stopped thinking about you. You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen—and your palm is even more beautiful.”

So…” Christopher glanced in the direction Calloway was sitting before he looked at me again. “That guy is hot.”

"When I looked at Christopher, I narrowed my eyes. “Is there something you need to tell me? Because that’s the third time you’ve said that.”

“Hell no. Believe me, I’m all about the tits and the p#$$y."

Though there is ow drama, there is no cheating nor an intent to cheat. Can't wait for volume 2.

***Audiobook***

I'm in love with Michael and his incomparable talent to bring stories to life through narration! I am completely blown away by the story line so far! This tiny woman has wrapped this six foot 3 inch alpha Dom completely around her finger! Their relationship is NOT typical BDSM. At least in this installment. I so enjoyed Cal behaving completely opposite of his type A alpha personality!

My favorite thing about this story is the emotion of the characters! Gahhhh it's so intense, soooooooo woooooooosaaaa! The intimate scenes are soooo intense! Just wow!!! I mean I've read my share of intense intimacy. But Cal and Rome??!!!! Just wow!!! Dagnabbit!

I. Loved. This. Story.

Five stars!!

Strength Within

This book is a good read. I liked the storyline and the struggles Cal faces in his earnest longing for a women that is contrary to everything he thinks he wants. Rome is the personification of an independent woman a role she struggles to maintain as she falls for Calloway. I enjoy how the story unfolds.

I did not give this five stars even though I liked it, here is why. While very well written I find the story to be a watered down version of Fifty Shades. I was expect to ng more from the advertisements, however, did not receive it. I also do not like how the story just ended. This is definitely a series that does not stand alone.

Altogether, this was a good book. I do not know if I am willing to read the remaining books in the series. We will see.

- allumeuse (fam.)

This book captured me. Cal met Rome at a bar, where she slapped him thinking he was someone else! Instead of being mad, he was intrigued. He runs a BDSM club but also a charitable organization. She also runs a charity. She doesn't know he's a dom. They start dating, both pushing each other's limits, and they both have secrets. This is the start to what I can see will be a very interesting story and I look forward to book 2. I received an arc of this.

This book felt a lot like 50 Shades of Grey, and yet I feel the writing is so much better. I LOVED Rome's independence and stubbornness, she didn't just give in to Calloway. He is a Dom and yet he would do whatever to win her over as he thinks he can make her his sub. Both have a rough past,, and it is nice to see bits and pieces of that past throughout the book.

This book itself I wouldn't say is dark, but maybe they get darker as the series continues.

Both Calloway and Rome work for non-profits and I love seeing them giving back to others in this book, Rome is barely getting by and of course Cal is a billionaire.

The writing is fantastic and again I love the stubbornness and independence of Rome and I hope that never changes. A part of me hopes she never submits as his sub, because I really feel like part of what he likes about her so much is that she stands her ground and doesn't just give in to his every demand.

The way they met is the BEST. And of course he was turned on by her slapping him several times. It was refreshing to see her make a fool of herself a few times early on, it makes her a more realistic character. I can't wait to see where this series goes.

Loved it!!

description

If you loved Fifty Shades, you will love this one too, because the books have many similarities.

I loved Rome, so much. She's so fierce & has achieved so much by herself. Loved how altruist & dedicated to others she is, and can't wait to read more about her hurtful past. She's the kind of heroine you will love...She's a pretty little thing, fierce, intelligent, kind, altruist but still so innocent.

Calloway is an intresting hero, he's sexy, dominating and controlling and he hides a painful past too.

I loved how their story began with her mistaking him for someone else and slaping him 3 times, him enjoying it too much. How Cal wanted to make her his sub but ended in a dry spell for 1 month and now he's enjoying Vanilla too much...lol

I recommend this book, if you want to read something with Fifty Shades flavor.

Book 1 doesn't end with a cliffhanger. Book 2 "Black Diamond", that comes out in June.

Black Obsidian #1 has too many similarities to Fifty Shades. It didn't seem original. Rome meets Cal in an abrupt and awkward way. After mistaking him for someone else, Cal can't get her or the slap across his face out of his mind. He longs to make her his submissive. Rome and Cal are both strong-willed characters and create quite a bit of push-pull in their relationship. The ending (last chapter) seems disconnected from the rest of the story, and this is where it ends. It left me with a lot of unanswered questions. Mature Readers 3.5 stars

I read this book because Amazon was giving it away for free... it is complicated.

For starters, I think that it presents in a very negative light the BDSM community; they are portrayed as strange, alien, dangerous. The sub-dom behaviours are carried to all spheres of their lives, whereas for real people is usually only a sexual behavior. Also, I find it strange that all sub-dom relationships are female-male, but in the real world people take different roles according to preferensce. And finally

Second, the characters make no sense whatsoever. Their public personas are so divorced to their inner monologues and motivations, to the point that they come as schizophrenic. Cal personal lifestyle choices are too far awy from his "job" and day activities, so much so that they actually seem like a plot device. Rome is a strong independent woman... but incredibly volluble to her desires, and it bothers me the degree to which she relies on her brother. And the brother is simply a scumbag

Third, during the whole book there is a strange tension, since Cal is in theory trying to break Rome into being his sub... but also not really doing it? Chapter to chapter his narration does huge jumps, in one moment he is almost twirling his moustache evil-style about what he is going to do this woman, and in the next he is opening his soul, sharing secrets that no one else knows... it would be something if the inconsistency related to the POV (since we switch between Cal and Rome), but it is not. Many times I thought that book finally was going to go on either direction, but alas, no

Fourth, it is an erotic book so the sex scenes are of course part of the appeal. And while they are reasonably well constructed... I have several issues such as:

And finally, I fear that, not the book itself but the series as a whole, is trying to set a grand "redemption" arc where Rome is going to save Cal from his tortured past and wicked ways, and bring him into the light. That would be sad - to equate sexual preferences to something that needs to be fixed, as well as the idea that "love" or "relationships" can save you... On the other hand if Cal does "break" Rome, then it is basically a tragedy. So I find no safe port where this series could be headed. Of course I write this with no knowledge of the rest of the books, so who knows. I wont, because I'm not spending a dime in the series.

I guess it was technically well written (or at least passable) and there is a real spice in the sex scenes, hence the 2 starts instead of 1.

When I received an email about this book from a favorite author, I knew that I would enjoy it and maybe even love it. I timed my reading just right so that I could give this book my undivided attention on the weekend.

It exceeded all my expectations and I am so glad that I stretched it out (started Friday and just finished it tonight, Tuesday) and savored it bit by bit. I've fallen in love with the characters and isn't really accomplished!

The story starts off in a bar with a case of mistaken identity when Rome Moretti stands up for her friend and slaps the wrong guy, thinking he cheated on his wife with her bestie. The guy is a Dominant who is quickly turned on by this strong, beautiful, courageous woman and immediately decides that he wants her as his submissive and breaks off his year long relationship with his current sub so that he can pursue (and win) Rome. Calloway agrees to take things slow so the two of them can get to know each other (steamy with everything BUT intercourse) over a period of several weeks.

Rome doesn't know it, but Calloway is pursuing her as the ultimate submissive. This proves difficult as Rome is anything but submissive and Calloway is keeping his darker, controlling, dominant side at bay as their relationship continues to build and grow into something special. They each come from troubled pasts and Rome is cautiously thrilled to have finally met her match. He is just as giving as she is when it comes to humanitarian work and she feels he may be just as broken (yet just as strong) as she is.

The attraction (and love?) that they have grows quickly even as Calloway continues to subdue his dominate personality while Rome continues to fall for him and allows him to care/protect her.

I loved this book and after a couple chapters, found myself quickly turning the pages and getting sucked into their world. This is by far the best book that I've read in a very long time ands I can't wait to read the next book. I believe the next one is coming out in June so I've marked my calendar and cannot WAIT to read it.

Lastly, I would like to say thank you to the author, Victoria Quinn, for taking the time to write a truly great story and I look forward to many more!

I got this for $1.99 on one of Amazon's Kindle Daily Deals; it didn't disppoint me. I've already bought book 2.

The story has one great hook right at the beginning. Rome (the main female character) is in a bar with a friend and the friend noticies a gentleman at the bar. It's the guy that is married and is cheating on his wife. So, Rome goes right up to the guy and slaps him at the bar. The problem is that Rome slaps the wrong guy--she slaps Calloway instead of the married low life that is cheating on his wife.

Calloway runs a non-profit and Rome also runs a non-profit. Rome is a fiesty girl and she's strong and independent and doesn't want anyone to "take care of her". Call it pride, call it strength, whatever you call it...she's got guts. She is who she is.

Calloway likes control and he likes being the guy in charge so when Rome slaps him not only does it catch him off guard but it piques his interest. He becomes so intrigued by this girl. He even hires someone to tell him more information but doesn't find anything.

This is where the book is different but so much better than 50 Shades of Grey. Calloway takes his time getting to know Rome and Rome does the same thing with Calloway. There's not any BDSM. They are truly establishing their relationship and taking things slow. It's definately a better version of a romance that features a smidge of other stuff, but I would say this is 90% romance. I did like that Calloway wasn't really much of a "stalker" like Christian Grey was. It was just so much better. Also, Rome didn't want to even move in with Calloway. She wanted to establish herself in her own right and that is what really made me enjoy this novel more.

I liked the heroine in this -- she was tough and opinionated -- and the hero was okay. What bothered me most about it was the language. Sometimes it was just too crass -- almost porn sounding. I love smut, so don't get me wrong. But I like romantic smut. And I like smut with chemistry. These two people didn't have much of either through most of the book. She makes him wait for a few months before they have sex -- well, intercourse. They actually do "have sex." He's a dominant and in between submissives. He hopes she -- a vanilla -- will eventually learn to become his submissive. In the meantime, he's falling in love with her, although he is in denial about it. He's the one who sounds perfunctory about sex, which he should as he sees it as recreational and a physical release, but when he thinks that way about the heroine all the time, it is jarring. I might eventually listen to the next one in this series, but not now. I'm just not that into it. The narrators for this audio book were good, but I did like Lia Langola much better than Michael Ferraiuolo. Michael's voice grated after a while and I didn't care for his female voice.

HAWT, HAWT, HAWT!!
I’m worried about Cal. I kind of agree with Jackson & that stank ass Isabella.
I’m thinking (and silently hoping) that Christopher has a side his baby sister knows nothing about and will direct her stubborn and independent self in the right direction. Her independence & pride is on my last nerve. I’m looking forward to Calloway breaking her down. #TeamCal

Hmmm so this just sort of ends. I’m not a huge fan of cliffhangers unless it’s a series like this. I felt like the ending needed that little push. It needed something major to happen to make me say “oh snap!” And want to read the next book.

I think I would have enjoyed this book so much more if it weren’t for the narrators. They aren’t terrible or have any annoying habits. But the guy sometimes comes off sounding a little creepy. And the female just annoyed me with the way she said things sometimes. Which made me feel annoyance with the character, all because of a certain inflection or emotion the narrator used.

Anyway, Calloway is a Dom. He sees Rome in a bar and immediately knows he wants her. So he breaks off his year long Dom/sub relationship to pursue Rome. Rome is a good girl and he hides his Dom lifestyle from her. But he can’t hide it all the time. His dominant side won’t stay hidden and he has outbursts. But instead of feeling scared or threatened, Rome responds, and sort of likes it. But she never admits it out loud.

Side note: It kind of annoyed me that she starts responding and getting excited by his Dom side, because I was looking for a book where the H is into a Dom/sub lifestyle and the h absolutely does not want anything to do with it. And this was what was recommended to me. So I hope it doesn’t end up with her on her knees.

Overall, this was good. I felt like the book just ends though. There is no real climax. It just ends, and the next book picks up immediately where the story left off. I wish something would have happened at the end to shock me. I’m ready for something to happen.

What the hell even is that book? Fifty Shades was erotic, sure, but this is just taken out of a porn movie. All the talk about the guy's genitalia made me sick.

"I'd never wanted cock in my mouth so much in my life."
"I knew my thick cock would struggle to get inside."
"It's going to be hard to get your fat cock in there."

And that's just a couple of examples...

The plotline, the characters, everything is so much like Fifty Shades that it's like a really bad fanfiction. E L James struggles with her own poor style, but Victoria Quinn apparently doesn't have any original ideas.

The only reason why I read this book is because I got it on Kindle for free, and thank God that I did. I can't imagine spending my money for this.

Why I gave this book 2 stars is just because it made me really laugh. All the 'cock-talk' and trying to be smooth and sexy was so poorly executed it made me laugh.

I mean, the guy says to a girl: "After I dropped you off, I went home and beat off twice - thinking about you."

Yah, uh, great? Thanks, for using your perverted idea of me as something out of PornHub.

"I loved conquering her as a virgin land, as an untouched paradise no mad had ever enjoyed before."

Trying to be poetic? Do some research on 'Virgin Land' and realise how wrong this is on so many levels.

Blackie out.

*****Find out more in my Black Obsidian review at Darling & Co.*****

When I first started this review, I wasn't really sure what I was going to write, but then as I started thinking about it, I really did not like the book. This is why:

-It's your typical toned down erotica novel; it's a carbon copy of Fifty Shades of Grey, just with different names.
- If some man used his money to hire a private investigator to find me and learn all of my private details, I'd be filing a restraining order, not crawling into bed with him.
-
-And while I'm comparing Fifty Shades here, Christian at least had the decency to tell Ana straight up. Calloway and Rome have been dating for a month and he's still lying.
