I honestly can't tell if this is a legitimate serious book or just one elaborate practical joke. It literally feels like the author did the poor job of copying the usual "hypno stuff" from other books.
DNF Got as far as this gem in Chapter 1: "It has been proven scientifically through quantum physics that thoughts are energy and can become reality if dwelt upon." A nonfiction book outside the physics field trying to invoke quantum anything is generally a red flag, but this one's a real humdinger.
I loved this book. I thought it was short sweet simple and to the point. The most useful information was about releasing ALL resistance when changing your mind state.

Every once in a while, I pick up one of this shitty books, hoping there is something that I will learn from it. You see, I’m more open-minded than one would assume. And no amounts of disappointments will discourage me.
And man, what a disappointment. Summary of the book: Record yourself, telling yourself what to do, listen to it, and you’ll be hypnotized!
I don’t just put everything down nilly-willy. I try them. So, I took the script for sleeping (I have troubles with sleep), recorded myself saying the script (in a soothing, and I will say, sexy voice) which was almost 10 minutes. I listened to it the first day and it didn’t work. I just couldn’t concentrate, my mind is all over the place, which is the reason I’m almost lost when driving. I just can’t focus on driving, my mind is working overtime on ridiculous ideas, thinking of everything. And when I’m listening to my sexy, soothing voice on how to imagine a cloud overhead with the number 99 on it, being blown away, and now it’s 98, and so on, my mind is somewhere else in 2 seconds.
I even tried the next day, but this time ridiculously drunk, which usually helps me sleep. But listening to myself actually got in the way of me feeling sleepy!
Hypnosis sounds a little hokey, but it's not a voodoo trance or anything. It's more about deep relaxation and imagery techniques to achieve a desired change for yourself. I thought this book was really helpful with ideas for relaxation and scripts to practice guided imagery to overcome different habits and achieve desired outcomes. I am going to try to use some of the techniques to promote relaxation and manage fear/pain in my upcoming (hopefully un-medicated) labor and delivery.
This book was interesting. It did a good job of dispelling myths and explaining what hypnosis is and how it can be used. My biggest complaint is the number of times the author said the same things. Seriously. If all the duplicated examples and descriptions were eliminated, 30 pages could have been shaved off the volume! Still, I'll be trying a couple of the scripts to see how they work.
