“Parihaka” by Kathryn Rountree, illustrated by Peter Gossage.

From the opening line this true story is evident:
“Tohu was very angry. 'The Pakeha want to take our land. First they try soft words and money,' he growled. 'When we refuse to give it up, they send soldiers to make war on us. ...” (p2)

The incredible true account of how “In 1867 Te Whiti built his village of peace.” (p3)

The great injustice must be remembered so that we as succeeding generations can honour the memory of the integrity of these brave and noble Maori.
