Perses Nomad Series, Book 3 By: K.A. Finn Narrated by: Keith Michaelson This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. I didn't read the other two books so my advice is to read these books in order! I loved what I heard here in this one and wanted to kick myself for not having heard the others first. I was given some to get by without given a spoiler. (which I appreciate) What I did get in this book was an exciting read and the premise was awesome. I apparently missed a great deal of excitement in the first two which I hope to remedy. The world building was great, although I would hate to live there, and the characters were well developed. I want to continue this story because it sounds intriguing. The narrator was excellent and could do all kinds of accents, voices, and kept the emotions and flow of the book going well.
Perses by K.A. Finn is the third book in the Nomad series. Brayden and Garvin, on a mission to gather all the intelligence on the Foundation’s cyborg program, become trapped on Earth, the center of Foundation operations. Brayden’s family, who up until this point thought that he was dead, agree to help and harbor them until they are able to escape. But little does Brayden know that his cousin is now an officer in the Foundation. Eventually, as Brayden’s story about the cyborg program and his treatment at the hands of the foundation, he and his family must come to terms with reality. As Brayden and Garvin, with the help of Brayden’s family, work to escape Earth, both must deal with the pasts they left behind so long ago on Earth.
Perses is a short follow up, possible novella length, to two previous books in the Nomad series. It takes a new turn as it follows the activity of Brayden, who is not the primary focus of the first two books. It also takes the reader to a new setting, away from the outer sector to Earth. And wonderfully, Perses follows in the great tradition of the first two novels. There is a lot of action, the pacing is well done, and the characters are well developed with great interactions. There is a lot of new information introduced about what the Foundation is up to and how the different characters slowly come to understand the changing realities is of the Foundation and its cyborg program is well done. It is also really interesting to read about the Brayden’s past and meet his estranged family. While this is the main storyline, the side story of Garvin and his relationship with the Foundation is also a welcome layer to the story. I do wish there was a small amount of time spent catching the reader up with what has happened in the previous book. It would be hard to understand what’s going on without reading the previous books. While I wish this addition to the series was longer, it’s a great added piece that adds a lot of interesting information and excitement. The end sets up the story for the next book and I look forward to where the adventure takes us next.
The narration by Keith Michaelson is excellent as usual. He does a great job with the characterization of each of the characters and makes each voicing reflect their personalities and emotion. The production quality was also great. I would recommend this installment of the series to anyone who enjoys space operas and the fight of the few against the vast and powerful.
( Format : Audiobook ) "Dead men don't generally have friends." This, the third book in the Nomad series, diverts from the previous protagonists of earlier stories to follow Gavin and Bray, marooned on Earth and determined somehow to escape back with the protocols and specifications of the experimentations to turn humans into cyborgs. Just two wanted men against the whole Foundation - it is never going to to be easy. And there is only one place which might offer shelter and hope: Bray's uncle's house. But Bray had abandoned his family years before, was believed by them to be dead. And his cousin is a high ranking Foundation officer.
Although not essential to have read the previous books, the background information they have supplied, both to the society and Foundation itself and to Bray's family connections, certainly adds to the understanding and enjoyment of what is happening, especially in the earlier part of the story. However, it can be read as a standalone and will still fulfillment all of the excitement expected. The characterisations are very good and the dialogue, of which there is much, excellent. The tension is there from the very beginning and does not falter to the extremely provocative ending, leaving the listener with the desire to immediately progress to the next book - after a brief period of gulping down air to contemplate and revive!
Written in the present tense, the story is very immediate, the listener is right there in the action. And this is enhanced by Keith Michaelson's narration as he keeps pace with the excitements, terrors and battles which ensue. His voicings of the various protagonists, too, is individual and distinctive, with some slightly strange, but consistent, accents. An enjoyable performance. It is easy to empathise with the main characters and their predicaments.
My thanks to the rights holder who freely gifted me a copy of Perses at my request, via Audiobook Boom. This is an exciting incident in the Nomad series and well worth hearing.even if the previous two volumes have not yet been heard.
Bray & Garvan Vacation to Earth... Wait Thats Not It
Perses picks up right where Nemesis leaves off with Bray and Garvan being trapped aboard the Foundation ship, Alpha. Once landed on earth, they manage to escape the ship and the area around it by unconventional, but fitting for a Hunter, means. Bray turns to the only family he has left on earth for shelter, his uncle Morgan and cousin Erin but Bray didn’t leave on the best terms and it turns out his family thinks he is dead.
Bray hated to leave Alpha without gathering the information he needed about the cyborg experiments but he knew it would have been suicide to take on the task with only Garvan by his side and no plan. Plus there is the problem of how to get off earth and back to the outer sector... As the story unfolds, we learn a lot about Bray’s past and even a little about our friend Garvan.
As usual, K.A. Finn’s writing is excellent! I get so engrossed in the story that I could get lost in it and forget all about my obligations. Perses is relatively short compared to Ares and Nemesis but it’s fitting for the events that occur in the story.
I truly believe that this series is best enjoyed in audio format. Keith Michaelson delivers another stellar performance and brings the story to life.
At the end of the audiobook we get a short excerpt from the next book but its just a big tease. I absolutely cannot wait until the next book is released!
I voluntarily provided a review in exchange for a free copy of this audiobook.
The publisher’s synopsis does well to explain the story and I will not mention more in the fear of giving something away. The beginning of the book moves a little slower as it has the main characters trying to gather information on the Foundation, it’s cyborg work and to gain the help of Brayden‘s family. We get some action in the later half. This does not mean it is boring however. I enjoyed this story, and despite not having read/listened to any other books of this series, I was able to understand the flow of this one. It is not a stand alone book. There are some gaps that it is necessary to read the first two to fully understand and the following book(s) for the conclusion of the story.
I have not read/listen to any other books by this author. The writing of this book was very awkward for me at the start. I did eventually adjust to it, and did not find it as distracting once I got a little further into the book. There is something in the way she writes the action scenes and the characters dialogue. It is written in present tense, often with short sentences and comes across very sports announcer-ish. “He peers out. He wants nothing to do with the earth. He did not want anything...” Despite this, I enjoyed the plot, I’m interested in reading the previous books and look forward to reading future ones in this series.
I have not listen to any other books by this narrator (Keith Michaelson), but would happily do so again. He did well in giving each character a separate voice and I enjoyed the accents he used. His female voices were well done. He brought the excitement and action to the story in his narration.
There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

This is a series that is definitely worth your time and credits. Very entertaining and enjoyable addition to the series. Loved diving back into the world of the Nomads. While I enjoyed this book I really wish it had been longer. I was so into the story that when it ended it caught me off guard. Those 5 hours flew by and left me wanting more.
It's well written and flows smoothly with great characters and a very interesting story-line. What more could you ask for. Even though it's shorter than the previous installments the story doesn't suffer, there is still a lot packed into it. It's fast paced and full of non-stop action. Love the humor and sarcasm. It also leaves you hanging a bit. That ending was great but will leave you wanting the next book immediately.
While all the characters are great, for me Garvan is a favorite. Really enjoyed that Brayden and Garvan were the main characters in this story. The story pulls you right back into the fight against The Foundation. Instead of battling The Foundation in space this time though, they are searching for information. Information that brings them to Earth. When they become stranded, it leaves Brayden with no choice but to turn to his family for help. A family that abandoned him a long time ago.
Keith Michaelson does a great job with the narration. Nice voice. Very deep.Easy to listen to for long periods of time. Almost mesmerizing at times. He has one of those voices that just draws you into a story. Clearly spoken with a nice smooth pace. Great character voices. Perfect tone and delivery of the humor and sarcasm. He brings the characters, their emotions and the story to life. Very enjoyable.

I had requested and received audiobook version of this book for free from the author, in exchange for an unbiased review.
This is the first book of the series that I had received and thus was kinda lost about what's happening in the story. There are background details provided in chunks, but I still felt like I was missing important details. I got the previous two books from Kindle Unlimited and then I was ready to continue this book. I would definitely recommend others too should read the first two books first. In addition to making this third book much more clear, those two books themselves are very well written books.
Once you have the story straight, it gets engaging. K.A. Finn has done a great job of building a mesmerizing world and the conflict within. From the synopsis, it had sounded like just another "pleb fighting The Man" story, but it is so much more than that. The characters aren't flat and have layers to them. The story is fast paced and action packed. You won't be disappointed.
Keith Michaelson's narration brings this book to life. Each character has a distinct voice and each emotion is conveyed beautifully. Great performance.
This is for the Audio Version This is the first of the series i have got but the overall story is given in the background so its quite easy to catch up. The two main characters are brought to live well and it doesn't take long before we are invested in their story. I found the basis of the series interesting and would get 1st and 2nd chapters of them, probably in ebook format as its a little easier to flick back and forth between chapters to get a better feel for everything. The narration is well done and the gruff voices especially work well for the two main characters.

Bray finds himself revisiting his past and family on Earth, after several years away, while hiding from the Foundation and trying to figure out what to do. He needs to get off Earth, but the Scientist brought his computer here. Bray saw it when leaving Alpha, Foundation's ship, and knows he needs to get it. The computer holds the information that could help save Gryffin from the malfuctioning implants, but he has to break into Foundation headquarters and get it then get off world. Bray will have to get word to others off-world about what Foundation has in weapons and man power that could destroy the place he's come to love like a home.
Keith is one amazing narrator. I love listening to his work. I looooove his voice. Okay, serious stuff now. He voices the characters with their own voice through tone, accent, and heart. The inflection he puts in each character brings them to life as their own whole person. Wow. I'm drawn into the story and forget he's a narrator because the characters come to life as individuals. That's amazing work!
Bray and Garvan. Yes ma'am. And thank you. These two characters were growing to be some of my favorite secondary characters in the previous two books. Well, they aren't the only ones. So to get the treat of them together and fighting to survive along with learning about their pasts, sign me up! I was thrilled to get into this story with them.
This story is more emotional with memories of the past, and Bray working through everything from when he was young through now. The feelings he felt toward his parents and his brother were those of a child that didn't see or know the whole story. Then, he has to tell his uncle and cousin about his family in the here and now. I was touched by what Morgan told Bray of his mother and father. Bray didn't remember or see the adult side of things and it was touching to hear about them.
We get the story from Bray's POV on Earth. We also get sections from One's POV. These sections are very, very insightful. One is on the council that's behind all that's going on. We get to learn about their new colony they were trying to build. I'm not 100% sure about this colony and where it's at, but I'm sure it's going to be something mentioned more in the future. And the biggest piece of information.... One's behind Garvan being put in prison. Garvan knows something that could destroy One and everything he's working for. This puts a target on Garvan's head. We also get scenes from Garvan's POV, which are important moments when things start moving in their plans.
I think I mentioned in the previous book that I was growing to like Garvan quickly. And I was right. I absolutely love him as a character. There are times he brings a huge smile to my lips with his personality and responses. They aren't the quick clip one lines, Garvan is more one to talk and leave the hint in what he says, almost a genuine sarcasm. I do love him. Garvan knows a lot about the scans and equipment used on Earth to identify people. He really grew on me in the last book, and I really like him here. This is part of what his job was before he went to prison. And his story! We learn his back story here too. Oh Garvan...
The beginning felt slower, because there wasn't much Bray could do on Earth. I had an idea but wasn't sure how he was going to take on a huge Foundation headquarters on his own. But we get personal with Bray and Garvan. Then it all comes together and we get to what the Hunters do best. Fight.
This is another wonderful addition to the Nomad series. I always enjoy the writing and narration in the biggest way. I look forward to more books!
