This was some cracky omega/alpha pack reading. It was enjoyable and fluffy even if I wanted to hit them over the heads with a tree branch a couple times. Not as much sex as one might suppose by the title since there was an actual story arc for the series, but never fear, knotting devotees, you will not be disappointed.

This was...wow. So damn weird. And predictable. Cameron (18) and Barnabas Colt (early forties?) was a strange combination. It felt so...wrong with the age difference simply because Cameron was so young. From what we saw of Galen, I didn't like him much. Noel was predictable as fuck. There was no connection between the characters and I; it felt like I didn't really got to know any of the characters. Like I was on the outside looking in... The plot could've been good if it hadn't felt so rushed. And the pregnancy? How the hell does that work? Overall, it was weird. It was not necessary a bad book, but it wasn't good either.

The Spirits saw fit to give you to me, my true mate.

This is a wolf shifter tale about Barnabas, the older alpha of the Silver Lake pack and Cameron, his very young omega mate.
As Cameron is coming of age the council is planning to select a mate for him, but Cameron has already choose his mate. He wants Barnabas but Barnabas has no intentions to claim him “That's out of the question.”

The council decision on who will be Cameron’s mate sets off a chain of betrayal Barnabas has to address violently.



But these events make Barnabas realize that he needs to acknowledge his soulmate and claim him or risk losing yet another much loved mate.
“I've been chasing ghosts for so long that I lost sight of the great gift sitting in front of me .”

His Unclaimed Omega is an enjoyable read told in alternating POV’s between Cameron and Barnabas.
It has not so much shifting but it will keep you engaged and wanting to know the ending.

Cute and short; well worth the price of free

This is a shifter tale with not a lot of shifting. I read this in about an hour and a half and enjoyed it despite the editing errors. There is a brief moment of Mpreg at the end but I wanted more of that since I read this to satisfy my sudden craving for a shifter romance. :) I enjoyed this short and felt the writing was solid. I am reading another book in this series so that should tell you I didn't run away screaming from book 1. Enjoy!!!

3.5 stars for me.

I think this is a promising start to a new series. I liked the beginning, but I kinda disliked the middle part when Barnabas does this whole "I'm making this decision for your own good without any input on what you actually want" decision-making thing. This led to things that kept Barnabas and Cameron apart and some dumb decisions. Yeah. Not a fan.

But I'm reading the second book now and already like it more, so I'm glad I have started this series!

Finished in one sitting, excellent short shifter read. Cameron was a sweet omega who had secretly loved his pack Alpha. I had begun to think Barnabas would never get with the program!! This seems like a real good beginning to a interesting shifter series.

This has a large age gap (about 25 years), which I don’t like, but that’s just my preference and didn’t factor in my rating. That comes entirely from the shoddy writing: all telling/explaining and very repetitious, including repeating the same word(s) in consecutive sentences. Very basic tough-guy alpha/meek omega dynamic with no nuance or character development to bring these guys alive. DNF 16%

This was a fun, short read that was great for distracting myself during my quarantine time. This wasn't really anything super special but I did like it and it was exactly what I was expecting and looking for. I don't know if I'll read more books in this series but I would definitely be open to doing so!

In some ways typical Alpha/Omega mating, but with interesting politics

In many ways this was a typical Alpha/Omega shifter mating story with a touch of male pregnancy (mpreg) at the end. The writing was competent if not overly compelling, and the sizzle was fairly heated (if limited to just a couple of scenes).

However, it was also a bit novel, including a grieving protagonist who couldn't get over his one true love, as well as a couple of twists and turns in the shifter/political backstory that were appreciated.

As with most short, heated novellas in this genre, the writing and and basic plot was nothing overly special, perhaps a 3 star "acceptably entertaining" rating. I found the slightly different characters, relationship, and plot twists to be more enticing than most formulaic, escapist m/m Alpha/Omega mating works, hence rounded up to 4 stars.

This was a decent story (your mileage my differ) for the first 50%. Right about then, MC Barnabas was hit with an unnecessary case of the stupids. That's the only thing I can think of to reason out why he acted the way that he did. Sadly, this really cut into the time spent between the MCs. I really think more time should have been spent on their relationship rather than the side story.


I am willing to try something else written by this author, but probably not from this series.

As the launching vehicle of a series, this book is tolerable, insofar as the world building does not suffer from being squeezed in by the romantic main arc, quite the contrary actually, given how weak and undistinguished and shallow and paltry the whole affair between the older Alpha and the fresh-around-the-gills Omega remains from start to finish (I was reminded of Lynn Hagen's terrible first instalment in the Brack Pack series, and not only because Barnabas is another Maverick about which not much is revealed while Cameron recalls Cecil in his spunk and frailty and cutesy potential). The obvious lack of originality of this shifteverse is rather more concerning; yet it is the horribly clunky and bloated writing that destroyed my enjoyment. Like Jo Penn in her Milson Valley series, Mrs Davis relishes in writing long, embarrassed sentences full of appositions and clumsy relatives, to which the sheer concept of flow is utterly foreign; this makes for a reading experiences that closely mirrors the feeling of going through morasses. Thankfully, this is a very short, obviously introductory in character, book, so I will not grouse too much.

I love this author but...

I love Cameron, hate Barnabas and I’m looking forward to Mitchell’s story. Look there’s a lot that can be forgiven but what won’t be forgiven is the lead alpha showing his whole a** for 85% of the book and he doesn’t really apologize until the very end and Cameron’s sweet, loving...stupid a** forgives him. Wtf?!?!? Like idk how anyone’s supposed to respect Barnabas when he insists on being a f*****g child. Accept that’s an insult to children because when kids act up it doesn’t almost start a war or leave someone they love in pain for months or expose their pack to b******t This book made me so angry. The entire book Barnabas was nothing but selfish and Self-centered. I’ve never been so angry at a book. Never. NEVER.

Aside from that the author wrote well grammatically and the timeline progressed as expected in a shorter novel. I’ve read other stuff by this author and actually came because another review said this was one of their better series and that my dear reader, that is a lie. An absolute misinformed lie. I’m going to keep going and see if the series is going to get any better but I’ve definitely read MUCH better by this author when it comes to character development and character driven plot. But in conclusion I just wanna say Spirit bless Galen because I certainly would not have been as nice to old boy if I found him wrecking everything we’d built over the course of our relationship. Nosireebob.

✘ I don't like the way they write. Skimming is required to get through the lengthy inner monologue and boring info./descriptions.

There hasn't been one book that I liked by this author, and I've tried quite a few.
This reread cements the need to -

This story short is negative overall. The alpha is grieving the loss of his deceased omega. He pushes away the omega who wants him, and is his true fated mate. He's forced to mate with him, but he won't complete the mark. He not only continues to push him away, but he runs off and leaves him in horrible pain.

The not-an-alpha has to be talked to by his late omega's ghost/spirit, to get him to claim his fated mate. Meanwhile his fated mate is suffering, and is chased & nearly raped by a different alpha.

The MCs don't get together until the final chapter. They spend much of the story apart. It's definitely not a feel-good romance, which is the kind I prefer.

Typically, I don’t care for some romances where one of the mates has found what they considered true love previously. This one definitely fit in that category. I would say that this romance was really a love triangle that included the deceased omega mate but it didn’t actually feel like a romance novel at all, just the young unmated omega pining for any crumbs of his alpha’s attention. I’m not even sure if the omega received even crumbs. The omega was basically ignored until he was of age. It wasn’t until the deceased omega mate came to the alpha in spirit form (near the end of the book) and released the alpha from his commitment to his late omega that the alpha agreed to finish the mating to his actual true mate/omega.

I read this book for the world building as book 2 sounded interesting as well as the book 2 hero. So I may read book 2.

I am a sucker for the Alpha-Omega dynamic, and eagerly read this first book in the Mountain Shifter Series, but I found it totally bleh. However, I wanted to read the next story in line, so I persevere, and can honestly say the series only improves after this book. So if you love alpha/beta/omega stories, please don't stop reading after the first book, things only get better.

The story begin with Barnabas, the Alpha of the Silver Lake pack, losing his mate after a terrible illness and the omega of the pack. With his death Barnabas and his pack are in morning because they lose someone special. Cameron, an omega of the pack, knows that he has to take the former omega place until he his is ship away and mated with an Alpha. The problem with that is that he know that Barnabas is his true mate but with Barnabas mate past away and only going to be faithful only to his dead mate Cameron knew that is an unrequited love. However, that all change when the time for him to chose a mate came and a surprise came with it. Cameron is a verum omega, a special type of omega that has a gift that will bring blessing to whoever he is mated to, and the Alpha the council chose for Cameron is Barnabas. Barnabas, however, does not want to be mated with Cameron even though his wolf has other idea cause his wolf knows that Cameron is his mate but still have the memory of his previous mate still in his mind and heart. Will Cameron be in a loveless mated relationship or will finally get his act together and claim Cameron as his true mate.

At first I didn't like the way Barnabas acted toward Cameron, even though I understand why he does what he does. He still mourn for the death of his late mate and I understand when you love that person you need time to heal but at least try to move and make a better living for yourself. While Barnabas was in that slump Cameron has to suffer with a aching heart because he know that Barnabas is his true mate and the only one that his heart and soul will accept but know that it can not be and for that he has to suffer which make me not like Barnabas for that. In the end though he redeem himself and saw the error of his way which make me like him and to man up for his mistake and to finally to see Cameron for who he really is and that is his true mate.

I really enjoy this book and I will read the next one of this series for the next one is about Mitchell, the Alpha of the Mountain Ridge pack.

“It feels like I'm yours.”
“Oh, you are,” Barnabas said in a husky voice, pressing his lips against Cameron's with surprising tenderness. “Whether you like it or not.”

I was excited to read this, for the age difference and the PNR aspect of mates and the intensity that comes with that.

However that intensity wasn't quite there, the romance took a back seat unfortunately and it's romance that I'm looking to read, better formatting and not using the wrong name would have helped, The alpha's avoidance and then his reason for finally letting Cameron in annoyed me-- because it didn't come from him. It came in the form of permission with questionable reasoning from someone else. The delivery on the insta love wasn't great, because the ending was so rushed, I love insta love but wasn't believable here.

I did like it, somewhat, I guess. There was romance, kinda, eventually. Quite short though. A little of the intensity and mineminemine that I love to read. Knotting (totally here for that) and mpreg which I tend to like. Mitch is a character that intrigued me for sure. The age difference and the PNR aspect even though not to my tastes were highlights too.

it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series)

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!

It gets better as it goes

Ok, I will admit that I was about to send this book back to KU because it started off slow & depressing. But, I'm listening to it while I Work & just couldn't be bothered to pick a new book. Somewhere around the middle-ish of the book things started to pick up.


Now it was down to the Alpha to pull his head out of his butt & get with the program. Pretty much the plot line finally makes an appearance & gives the story a swift kick then its done.
Even though it's free to read through Kindle Unlimited or the new Prime Books Amazon just came out with, I'm going to have to pass on the next 6 books that finish the series.
Life is to short to waste it reading bad or "not so good" books.
