So, what happens when one is plucked from their home and forced into a life they had no idea even existed? Faith Mitchell was a shy girl and a pushover. She allowed people to walk all over her for the sake of staying out of sight and away from the attention of people. But one fateful night would change all of that. "The Shy Girl Has A Gun" is a thrilling, funny, and a laid back quick read. The author doesn't have a name, but more of a username. Makeandoffer is the creator of this fun novel. They are a user on Wattpad, an app used for amateur writers to publish their works.
There is approximately 250 pages, but Makeandoffer is able to deliver a meaningful story, with characters that are easy to relate to, and also make you laugh out loud. The title alone suggests a huge character change in a character, internally as well as externally. The writing is very causal and comfortable. It doesn’t cause any serious thinking or reflecting from the reader, which is one of the reasons why I enjoyed it so much.
The author needed to do some research to create the book as well. She or he would need to be an expert with guns, hand-to-hand combat, and different fighting styles. And since I actually fight, it was very amusing to read about people fighting in detail. The characters were relatable and fathomable. They were dynamic but also human. They made mistakes and paid the price for them. At first, when I started reading it, it seemed kind of cliché. But within the first chapter, my impression had changed dramatically. Just by the dialogue of the characters I knew that it would be different.
The characters are the bread and butter of the book. They made me want to keep reading it. They are funny, witty, and sharp. Their presences are strong and dominant. They're likable, even with their imperfections. I liked them so much that I could easily look over any mistake they did. Dialogue also played a huge role in building the personality of the book. It was what they said and how they said it. You would be able to pick up on those things and create a profile for the character, without even realizing it. You learn these people as if they're real, and you make a connection.
This book will make you feel something. It will make you feel mad when someone hurts your favorite character. If something sad happens, you will feel sad. The people in the book are just so likable that you cant help but feel what they do. The dynamic between the characters fluctuates throughout the book. At some parts, they are cut off from all emotions, and in others, they're opening up to each other.
This book will, undoubtedly, make you laugh, make you feel sad, maybe even bring a tear to your eye, but above all, it will make you feel connected. The characters are realistic and fun. The plot is winding and entertaining. It's a witty, enjoyable beach read.
