Now that Julianne's happily ending is secure, her career as Cliffs House's event planner is suddenly busier than ever. Thanks to a Cornish singing sensation's upcoming concert at Cliffs House, and her promise to plan the perfect wedding for Pippa, Julianne hasn't a moment to spare for Matthew or his plans for a weekend outing at Pencarrow. But she's determined to find a way without letting down Ceffylgwyn for its big moment, or disappointing Pippa on the biggest day of her friend's life.
With a starstruck crew of volunteers, a persistent American event planner, and a seemingly ill-chosen assistant in the form of the village's former troublemaker, Julianne has her hands full, as usual. And it will take all of her friends, a few surprise twists, and -- of course -- her beloved Matthew to see her through it.
Laura Briggs is the bestselling author of multiple lighthearted romance books, including the Amazon UK Top 100's LATE TO THE WEDDING and the popular A WEDDING IN CORNWALL series. Since her debut with Pelican Book Group's inspirational novella ONLY IN NOVELS, she has worked both with publishers and as an independent author, as well as partnering with others writers, including working under a pen name in other genres. She loves vintage fashion, classic movies, British melodrama, and spending time with her pets.
This is the fourth entry in the continuing story of an American event planner who has moved to Cornwall to take a position at a large estate. It was a bit of a disappointment that instead of having this one focused on Julianne and Matt's wedding, the story of their wedding is told in an all-to-brief flashback near the beginning of the book, and it's now months later.
Instead, the book focuses on a large event Julianne is planning for a singer at the manor, along with Pippa's wedding (Pippa is one of the manor staff). Everything felt very rushed here, as the "book" is only 100 pages long. However, I'm very interested in a new character, Kitty, who appears early on. I'm hoping she will be around for the next book as well.
In this fourth outing in the Cornwall series we start with a wedding, end with a wedding, and have quite a kerfuffle in-between as “The Cliffs” prepares for a live performance by a famous opera singer and the grandest event they’ve ever hosted.
The writing is clear and precise. The characters are intriguing, affectionate and supportive. And even though we lose one of our favourites, Pippa, to married life in a new village, we gain some new intriguing ones we can definitely look forward to reading about in future tales.
Overall you can’t go wrong with these sweet short stories from Briggs that are bursting with all the quaintness of village life, including an idyllic locale, quirky, unique personalities and plots filled with excitement, humour, a little adventure and a lot of heart.
Thank you to Laura Briggs, the author, for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I'd only had the book a few hours before I couldn't resist the pull of returning to this marvellous series, which turned out to be a great decision, as A Manor in Cornwall is another strong addition to the series.
It can definitely be read as a standalone, and the focus of this book has moved away from Julianne's love life, and is more about the two rather different events she is now working on at Cliffs House, for the same weekend, to the extent that she barely gets to see Matthew at all.
The two events are on opposite size and scale ranges, there is a huge concert from a local opera singer, which requires Julianne to turn to the villagers to get a whole army of helper in to help out with, including one girl that she thinks has potential to be an assistant, but the other staff at Cliffs House are aware of the girls reputation and try to discourage Julianne from it.
The other event is Pippa's wedding. Pippa has been a longstanding character in this series, and she is finally getting married, but she wants a fairytale style wedding on a shoestring budget and for Julianne to organise it.
I loved seeing not only how the two events came together, but also the way Julianne was dealing with her new temporary assistant.
A Manor in Cornwall is an easy to read, reasonably short novella, that is a great addition to this series of books set in a gorgeous part of Cornwall. With each book I feel as though I know the main characters that bit better, and as a result enjoy reading about them that bit more.
Thank you so much to Laura Briggs for this copy of the book which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Okay, this was book 4 in this series, and I've just about had enough of it.
First let me say, I like the characters; I like the stories - but they are SO BRIEF.
Again, it's an author writing a few chapters and calling it a novel, when it really isn't.
BUT...my biggest quibble is something the author herself says in one of the "letters" before the actual story starts.
She's American, and has never been to Cornwall, only in her imagination....and it's unbelievably frustrating for someone who has been to Corwall many times, and is British.
The Americanisms through the books are glaring and hit you between the eyes...as an example, we don't have "Fall" in the UK - we have Autumn. There are many many of these.
I have started book 5 (as book 4 ended very abruptly when I was reading in bed last night!), but I suspect this will be the last I bother with.
I need to read a book with at least 300 pages which I can invest in.
I am still enjoying this series, this is the point that Kitty enters the story. I, without realising, read one of the Christmas episodes out-of-order so I was already familiar with her character. I wish I hadn't had this flash of the future but it was interesting to see how her character began in the story. Although I took a month to read the book, in reality I had about two weeks when I didn't have time to read. Although I have the combined volume of the novels, I am now breaking off after this episode to read some Christmas novels and then I will return to Cornwall with Laura Briggs.
A truly adorable read. I felt captivated and totally engrossed in a delightful event and read eagerly to see if kitty would indeed end yp becoming a part if the manor. I have already read the next book a sheer triumph!!
Love this series of books with a look into the life of "Ross" and Julianne and co. The stories move on in such a good way. It's a can't put down book. Waiting for the next with anticipation. Thank you Laura Briggs.
this is the fourth book in the series. It was lovely to return to the characters that work at Cliff's House, Ceffyl Gwyn, Cornwall.
Julianne is still the event planner, now married to Matthew. As event planner, Julianne's life gets even busier when Cliff's House is chosen as the host venue for a hit opera singer which happens to be a day before Pippa's wedding. Julieanne has promised Pippa it will be fabulous but she is worried if she can cope with everything that is going on.Julianne decides she needs an assistant but is wayward Kitty, from the village the best fit for the job.
I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series. Roll on 18th May for the release of "A Bake Off in Cornwall".
