In addition to study and exams the university years bring a new freedom, character development and the building of what may become lifelong friendships. But they can be daunting too, particularly for Christian students who may worry about fitting in or about misusing their new-found freedom. Matt Stuart provides a comprehensive guride to all aspects of university life, including problem areas such as debt management and relationships.

This is a non-fiction guide to student life as a Christian. It was a really useful read, and not at all preachy - likely because the person who wrote it was not long a student himself. Some Christian books say that you should never, ever drink alcohol, and that you should work Jesus into every conversation with non-Christians, but Matt's comments were always very down-to-earth and sensible. For instance, he said that although some students choose not to drink any alcohol at all while at Uni if they don't think they can manage to avoid the pressures of heavy drinking, there is no rule on alcohol - it's up to you and you should decide what is best for you, like limiting yourself to three drinks when you go out, etc. He also said that the best way to show that you are a Christian is simply to be a kind, friendly person and to let God show through your actions - you don't have to preach. I completely agree with both of these statements! He also gave a lot of advice on applying to University, budgeting, managing your eating habits - things that would be found in any normal student guide. Some non-fiction books for Christians focus all on God and forget that we're normal human beings, like everyone else. Matt Stuart definitely didn't forget this. I think I'll refer back to this book over the next few years while I'm settling into Uni. Also - this book was written by a Brit, and I definitely think that British Christians are much more down-to-earth than Americans. I have a few American Christian books and they're nowhere near as good as this one. 10/10
