I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. Lots of possible suspects in this mystery, but I think to really enjoy this book to the fullest I definitely should have read the first book in this series. Very well written.
Tons more action than the first one, but to be honest I hated some of the things that happened. I'm way too attached to one of the characters that didn't make it, and I'm not sure it's plausible that so many individuals in town were so recklessly murderous. It read like big city crime and lawlessness, not typical for any small town in Kentucky that I've ever heard of. That aside, the writing was great, kept me hooked until I finished this in about 6 hours. On to the next one...
It had been 6 months since i read the first book. I barely remembered the storyline and characters. She added numerous people to the list from the last book and i got confused. Probably skimmed to o fast to get thru this book. In any case i didn't enjoy it. Sorry
The second novel in the Liz Crawford Trilogy and almost impossible to put down. This was an interesting, fast read, fleshing out the protagonist rather well in a continuation of her adventures in Kentucky. In Volume three we are headed to Texas....
I liked this story and I really like Liz Crawford but it was just a little more violent than I'm used to reading. Liz returns to her hometown and shortly thereafter there are three attempts on her life. A friend is killed on the first attempt. The police thinks her friends husband is responsible and don't think Liz was the target. There is lots of action and several suspects. I think reading book 1 in the series might be advantageous. Most of the story is a carry over from No Place to Rest where Liz's sister is murdered. The violence is very graphic. A good story.
The action scenes were nicely done, and some details were nicely hidden regarding who the enemy was; however, I also feel as if a chapter were missing. I feel like some stronger connection than "kin" needed to be made in the relationship between two characters, especially considering how they were not so connected in the first book, that being at being at odds was not an issue before.
Barnhart’s rhythm is a bit uneven compared with the series’s first book, and a little too dependent on the incoming story. Whole sections drag out while going back over well worn territory regarding relationships and motivations, then the action takes off and a lot of threads are quickly tied off right at the end.
