Self-Inflicted Overload Not having work-life balance is a major stumbling block to achieving one’s desires (i.e., the perfect day, quality relationships, a happy family, healthy living, peace, and the list goes on and on). Work-life balance is achieved when the obligations that come with a career and the responsibilities of daily life are in equilibrium. Neither work nor life has a dominant role. In the correct balance, one will experience a state of tranquility, which translates to PEACE. How does one achieve PEACE? Joyce E. Brooks offers you an up-close and personal look at her journey to achieving PEACE. In Self-Inflicted Overload, Joyce shares how she became overloaded and more important, how her five-step strategy helped her eliminate the overload and achieve work-life balance and gain that PEACE we all deserve.
Joyce was a keynote at one of our events in the Caribbean, she gifted me this book. After a few years I decided it was the right time to read it. The book is a short read, but has some great takeaways on reducing self inflicted overload, that we mothers/women know so well. Sometimes the 7figure salary is not worth it, if you have no time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life, like family, exercise, eating healthy, and vacations. Cancer is the ultimate line in the sand that life is worth more than anything in this world!
A takeaway from Joyce’s book that will stay with me forever- “Joy is an emotion that is generated by your internal outlook on the external world.”
