It is the final who saves the book, so you have to survive at least three hundred pages (perhaps too much even for a patient reader like myself) in order to find anything else than a megalomaniac praise of women, God's angels on Earth (!!!) and a criticism of men: false, cheaters, shallow.
Of course, I understand we are talking about books written by women and dedicated to them, but sometimes enough can be too much.
That was not the case, but just only to the limit...

A husband. A wife. A mistress.

And an ultimate plan for revenge . . .

Yes, this plotline is classic Jane Fallon.

Jane Fallon writes chick lit with an edge and her brilliant wit and relationship insights never fail to delight, impress, and humor me.

GOT YOUR BACK was not my favorite "Jane" book, though.

Perhaps I wanted the protagonist's revenge to be more wickedly evil, cunning, and "in your face"....similar to the revenge portrayed in Jane Fallon's other novels.

And perhaps, too, I had been expecting more LOL funny lines from the protagonist -- not just lines that had me chuckling.

In other words, I am a huge "Jane" fan and I was expecting more.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrators did a fabulous job with the narration.

I tend to really enjoy Jane's novels but this one lacked the usual twists and turns. A rather abrupt ending that took me by surprise - because the story just finished as opposed to something amazing happening! I actually felt sorry for James and found Katie to be irritating. It was a good solid read though, looking forward to her upcoming release.

My love for Jane Fallon's work started years before I even started blogging. I remember randomly picking up Getting Rid of Matthew in our local bookshop when I was 17 and instantly falling love with Fallon's writing. I know I loved her style even then but I wasn't really keen on how the story ended and felt that it fell a bit flat. Since I found the author's style so absorbing and so well-written, I knew Got You Back would be another brilliant read but I was hoping the ending wouldn't disappoint. Well, it didn't. Got You Back turned out to be even more captivating than I thought it would be and it has quickly become one of my favourite books of the year from this genre. It's very cleverly written, its characters are relatable and realistic and the story is definitely a unique one.

Both the story and the writing reminded me of Tamar Cohen's A Mistress's Revenge , a book which I reviewed only a few months ago. Both books deal with love affairs gone wrong in quite a different way but in a similarly entertaining and gripping fashion. Got You Back centres around Stephanie, a stylist working in London and James, a vet who divides his time between his rural practice in Lower Shippingham and his work in north London. While he loves his wife and his son, he feels that his life got a bit dull over the years. So when he meets Katie in Lower Shippingham and suddenly feels more alive, his fate is sealed. They move in together in Katie's cottage, spending three nights a week together while Stephanie and their son Finn are both in London. But when James forgets to delete one of Katie's texts and Stephanie finds it by accident, a whole new chapter begins.

Instead of the usual cheating husband scenario, Stephanie gets in touch with Katie and they come up with a plan: they join forces in order to take revenge and make James's life as miserable as he made them feel. Fallon kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through the end and I had no clue what was going to happen. The fact that James has no clue what's going on behind his back or even the fact that his wife and his girlfriend know each other makes the story utterly hilarious and impossible to put down.

In addition to a well-thought-out plot what I really enjoyed about this book is how diverse the characters were. I loved Stephanie's character and how she handled all this - and when I started reading the book I didn't thought I would end up saying this but I was actually beginning to like James and feel sorry for him by the end. Katie was starting to get on my nerves but her unpredictable behaviour definitely adds to the tension and makes you want to read on. After such a long and tense build-up, the ending seemed a bit anti-climatic at first and it was not what I initially expected but all in all, I like the way things worked out for all of them.

Overall Got You Back was an entertaining, witty and memorable novel which I didn't want to end. The writing's brilliant, the characters are not over-the-top or unrealistic and the plot is guaranteed to keep you up late at night. Another fantastic read by Jane Fallon for fans of women's fiction. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Oh dear.... what happened to the brilliant one liners and a genuine anti hero of a character from "getting rid of matthew" that prompted me to read this one.

Believe me, if all chick lit was like this, I would never have attempted another foray into the world of the enemies minds.

This is a flimsey novel that doesnt have a lot going for it.... it is gently amusing, rather than funny and has poor characterisation and story - with the marriage infidelity and divorce as a premise to a bit of gentle slapstick, rather than a john wayne bobbit bit of surgery.

James is the centrepeice of the story. He lives part of the week in London (again, well drawn) with his wife stephanie and child and part of the week in the countrside - with his mistress Kate.

He has taken things a bit far with Kate - moved in with her and having a social circle. As if that could happen without Kate knowing for a year - what about holidays and weekends etc.

Stephanie finds a text from kate on his phone - confronts her and quickly realises that she is as much in the dark. They then both plot a series of revenges.

Some of these are gentle - like buying the same clothes and kate changing her appearance to look like Steph - freaking james out. Others get more sinister, as his business practices, breaking of planning permissions and employment law lapses are reported to the authorities.

Steph has increasing misgivings about what they are doing, expecially as James starts to go off the rails (not that you as the reader are bothered and he is a weak spineless character) but Katie increasingly goes for the kill.

It was all meant to peak at his 40th birthday celebrations - spread over two days - before he collapses in tears at the end of the first one and admits everything.

All a bit light and fluffy and not as good as the first one, which is a concern but at least the author avoids the temptation to have a sickly sweat ending.

Got You Back is an easy read which didn’t overly excite me but was quite entertaining.

The synopsis sounded great – I think it's always quite fun to read about some revenge served up cold to a cheating partner – and the novel satisfied that to some extent, but it wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would be. I wanted more of a ‘smack-you-in-the-face’ resolution or perhaps some kind of unexpected event or twist to make me go ‘wow!’, but it was just a little lacking. Maybe I just expected a different kind of novel. The characters were interesting enough but I just wasn’t hugely engrossed in the story - basically it was okay, but not great.

The narration, however, was quite engaging and I would still read other books by Jane Fallon in the future, as I’ve heard good things about her other novels!

Revenge done well—told in the 3rd person from 3 different POVs.

James is living 2 lives, one in London with his wife and son, the other with his girlfriend in the country—she thinks he’s divorced, splitting his time with her and his son. The girlfriend is quite sweet.

The wife discovers the affair, contacts the girlfriend and both realize he’s a lying dirtbag. Instead of confronting him they plan revenge.

Oh, the revenge is sweet.

This book was.. disappointing.

The plot and the whole idea of the book was good: Husband has double life and both the wife and girlfriend find out and plan to get revenge. It just wasn't executed as well as it could have been. I think the characters were a little vague as I didn't really connect with them. The love interest for the wife, Michael, was sooo boring and dull. No chemistry at all. And then it just seemed to get really boring from then onwards. I must say, I liked the part where they were styling celebrities for the BAFTA's. That was quite interesting but the rest was dull.

Overall, I think it's something to read on holiday or when you have nothing else better to do and need to pass the time. I got this in a book swap so I'm glad I didn't buy it. I think I'll be swapping it again!

Ok... this book disappointed me. A lot. It started off with soooo much hope, and I was really into it when Katie and Stephanie were planning the revenge on James. And then it fell flat.

I really wanted to see the revenge plan pan out and alas it didn't because James decided to feel guilty and then confessed. I also did not enjoy that the ending just kind of stopped. It was like the story was unfinished.

I gave it 2 stars for exactly the reason that it was ok. I actually enjoyed the book for more than 50 percent and then it was just blah.

Had a lot of potential but didn't meet my expectations by the ending.

Tko će pobijediti, a tko izvući kraći kraj, otkrijte sami.
Simpatičan ljubić, za ljetne dane.

The concept of this book is definitely a good one - Mistress and wife plotting revenge behind the cheating husband's back. My only issue being I strongly disliked almost all of the characters. The wife, I found to be cold and unfriendly. The mistress I found to be childish and irritating and the cheating husband? Well, needless to say he was awful from the off. I didn't sympathise with a single situation, unfortunately. I also found the ending lacking and feel a juicy twist would have been perfect! All in all, a light and easy to read book - with a good overall outline but too many mean characters!!

Very well written. Shows what can happen if you lie and think only about yourself. Also, shows how no matter what happen divorced parents don't need to fight and argue about children or anything else. They can be friends and have friendly feelings for each other.

It's not kids fault that their parents are no longer together. So I think it is a god decision that Stephanie wanted to show Finn that things are not going to be completely different, just a little.

Good writing, weak plot. The description said the characters have the "ultimate plan for revenge" which is not actually the case at all. The book is about 100 pages too long because the plot needs a lot of finagling to be tied up neatly. I enjoyed the first 3/4 but then was mostly waiting for it to be over.

Didn’t need to drag on and on and on about revenge. Got repetitive and boring. Didn’t care for any of the characters, not even Finn. Maybe for David and Sebastian but that’s about it.

“A husband. A wife. A mistress. And the ultimate plan for revenge
The husband; James never intended to lead a double life with a wife in London and a mistress in the country, it's exhausting. But that's all about to change
The wife; Stephanie isn't really snooping when she finds a text message from a strange woman on her husband's mobile. But now she's found it, how can she ignore it? It's time to track the woman down and find out what's going on
The mistress; Katie has no reason to believe her boyfriend, James, is cheating until someone claiming to be his wife gets in touch. Now she's been cast in the role of mistress. Not one she's happy with. Once Stephanie and Katie know about each other, they must decide what to do. They could both just throw him out or they could join forces to make his life hell first. But revenge isn't always sweet. And what happens when one woman thinks enough is enough but the other doesn't know when to stop?”
I’m sorry Jane but this one was just a bit lacklustre for me. None of your trade mark twists and very predictable. I could tell from the get go that James was a twat and Katie was going to be a total nutter.

I. LOVED. THIS. SO. MUCH.

I loved that this wasn't all about a man cheating and him being an asshole, but about how the cheating affected everyone and everything around those involved (friends, family, children, work). I really loved how it turned out.

It felt so realistic in the way it was written. I loved the parts about their work, and how it is possible to for example be a good parent, but not a partner. Or how it's possible to be good at your job, while at the same time not being a good colleague. This is what I love the most about characters. Them having real personalities, good and bad, which makes them kind of perfect.

I also loved how the characters changed, both by learning from their mistakes, and from having their emotions take over and make decisions without thinking clearly or thoroughly through the consequenses.

A new favourite of mine, and I'm looking forward to read more books by Jane Fallon. Or listen to them on audiobooks. This is my second book by her (first was Faking Friends) and I've managed to listen to both on audiobook, and actually pay attention to what was happening most of the time.

This is a fun, easy read. Perfect for lazy summer days or long international flights. I was afraid the subject matter (a man cheating on his wife) would be depressing, but Jane Fallon's sense of humor and the unexpected plot line kept the story light and enjoyable. It's not fantastic writing by any means. There's no sense of place and only basic descriptions of the main characters, which meant I was caught by surprise half-way through the book that Stephanie had red hair and was slim. Two of the characters (James and Katie) also completely change their personalities, something that just doesn't happen in real life. But all in all, I definitely would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun read. And I will check out Jane Fallon's other books.

Long time since I read this, but here's what I remember.

This is chicklit (to give it that label) done a little smarter than usual. I liked the characters, I loved the turns the plot took. I almost started to feel bad for the man and wished for a happy ending for him, too.

There are no underlying themes to uncover here and sometimes you don't need that. Even though it's only a few years since I've read this, I do was a different person back then. You change a lot when you're coming into your twenties. I bet that I would have some more insights if I reread this, but I don't really feel like doing that.

But it's a great pick if you want to have a few hours of reading fun.

This was one of the books that I was on the border between a 3 stars read and a 4 as I did alot of skimming to see how the book ended.

The husband was a cake eater cheater so if this makes your skin crawl and you are wondering how its even possible that the fmc ( the wife)feels an ounce of pity for this man who led a double life with his girlfriend on the side just back out now.

However ,if you like a well written cheating revenge story and like the drama and angst then I recommend that you give this book a try. Mostly chick lit ( I wouldn't label this book as a romance really unless you consider the love triangle angle of the story.

I really did enjoy this book and how realistic it felt. The fact that good people can make bad decisions is probably one of the underlying themes here and I loved how much the characters reflected that. However the story felt stilted at times and it just dragged on slightly too long. A good read but not as lovable as Jane Fallon's others.

If there's one thing I enjoy reading about, it's cheaters getting their comeuppance. Stephanie has been married to James for a while, and they have a son together. James is a commuter - he spends the end of the week at home with his wife and then Sunday evenings he drives miles away to work at his vetinary practise until the middle of the week. What Stephanie doesn't know is that while he's there, he is living with his "girlfriend", Katie. And Katie is unaware that James still has a wife.

I liked this book. I was cheering Katie on from the offset; I know the whole point of the book was to show that she was taking the whole "revenge" thing too far, but if you've ever been the victim of infidelity, then you can't really understand how much the betrayal must hurt. The thing I didn't like about the book was that Stephanie started to feel sorry for James and think they were taking things too far. The bottom line is, James ia a serial liar and a cheat, and everything that was done to him was deserved. Overall, Katie was my favourite character, and I really hope she found her closure eventually! Good chick-lit with a slightly darker theme.

The first half of the book was better than the last half. It was funny to read about the things they came up with to get back at the cheater... but then it got more serious and not as entertaining. My one question is WHY was that child allowed to call his mother stupid 3x??? Neither of them even reacted to it. My kids would have earned themselves a smack for that.
