మహారణ్యంలో చాలా ఎత్తయిన కొండల సమూహం మధ్యలోవున్న ఆ చిన్న స్టేషను పేరు గాలికొండపురం రైల్వేగేటు. స్టేషనుకి దిగువగా వుంది ఊరు. అప్పుడు సమయం రాత్రి 12 గంటలు. వచ్చే రైళ్ళేమీ లేకపోవడంతో నిశ్శబ్దంగా వుందా ప్రాంతం. చేతితో తాకితే చీకటి పొడి రాలుతుందా అనిపించేటంతటి కటిక చీకటి. నిద్రపోని రుషిపక్షుల అరుపులు. ప్రేతాత్మగొంతులా ఎత్తయిన గాలికొండ మీంచి సుళ్ళు తిరుగుతూ వీస్తున్న గాలులు. ఎదుటి మనిషి స్పష్టంగా కన్పించనంత దట్టంగా మూసుకుపోయిన మంచు. కేన్సర్‌లా నరాలు కొరుకుతున్న చలికి మెలికలు తిరుగుతున్న ప్రకృతి కన్య, చీకటి దుప్పటి నిలువునా కప్పుకుంది. గడ్డ కట్టిన ఆ అందంలో చాలా పొద్దు గడిచింది. హఠాత్తుగా శబ్దాలు...

Vamsy or Vamsi (born Nallamilli Bamireddy on 20 November 1956) is a Telugu Indian film director, screenwriter and music director known for his works in Telugu cinema. In 1985 he received the National Film Award for Sitaara.
Vamsy is one of the very few filmmakers in Telugu who tries to depict the nativity of the concerned story. Although he is well known for portraying the scenic beauty of Godavari and surrounding regions, the element of characterisation is the highlight in his films.

Great prose but very weak story riddled with inconsistencies and plot holes. Reads more like a rejected movie script on the lines of Anveshana. Worth a read solely for Vamsy's imaginative prowess, especially the paragraphs describing nature and daily lives of people in the hilly town of Galikodapuram .

What was I thinking? Never ever choose something because of brand. prose is beautiful and flowing. Vamsi Certainly has great taste in describing nature's and women's beauty. And that is all there is to this book. It's supposed to be a murder mystery. There is no logic as to why every character behaves certain way. All of them are card board cut characters, with shitty logic and with staggering amount of stupidity.
