Sixteen-year-old Sadie is a vampire who faints at the sight of blood, trips over her own feet, and can only, at best, be called cute.
As the imperfect middle child in a perfect vampire family, she struggles to fit into a world where she is different from everyone else.
Forced to follow her parents’ wishes by attending University, the local finishing school for graceful young vampires, she soon becomes the laughingstock of her oh-so-perfect class. But when the most popular boy on campus comes to her rescue and calls her “beautiful,” Sadie becomes the target of a group of mean girls who rule the school.
Plagued by a series of embarrassing failures, Sadie is kicked out of University and must face reality: she doesn’t belong with vampires. And when a mysterious elder vampire seeks her out with vague and cryptic conversation, she’s even more convinced that something is amiss.
With no other acceptable choice for her future, Sadie must convince her traditional vampire parents to let her do something unheard of for vampires her age. But questions continue to plague her. Is she truly a vampire? Or is she something else?

Fans (Twihards) of Twilight's "love at first encounter" aspect, and Edward's love and appreciation for the imperfect Bella Swan, will adore the romance in this vampire book. The "vampire failure," Sadie, doesn't fit in with her own kind. She's easy to feel bad for and yet root for, which is what great characters are all about. As the book neared the end, I found myself wondering how SO MUCH could still need to be wrapped up... there's a second book. I'm dying to know what Molly meant by, "I've known you since we were tiny wee ones waiting for our families to *" (I'm not going to finish that quote, as I can't tell if that's a spoiler or not). This book was fun to read.
I have tagged this book as "bubble gum fantasy" because it comes across (to me) as a fun, light-hearted read, as if someone had taken a bubble gum pop song and turned it into a book. Don't get me wrong, even though it isn't Serious Fantasy, and YA to boot, that doesn't mean it should be dismissed as trivial or meaningless.
In fact, book two gets progressively less light-hearted and more serious as it moves along. It also introduces some increasingly serious and interesting issues.
Be warned, however, that while the first book doesn't end with a blatant cliff-hanger, neither does it feel entirely complete. The second book DOES end with what I DO feel to be a blatant cliff-hanger. So here we sit, waiting for a third book and, hopefully, some definitive resolution.
This was totally awesome. I could really step into Sadie's shoes - even though she's a vampire - and remember what it was like to be different from the other teens. Sure, Sadie's got some problems unique to being a different kind of vampire - like being allergic to blood - but it was easy to feel a sort of camaraderie with her. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more of this series and more from this author.
>Book Review – Caught in Between >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the first in the In-Betweens series and ends with everything up in the air. Sadie is a vampire unlike any other. She can’t stand blood, can be in the sun and isn’t graceful. In vampire land, the kids go to University at 16. Sadie and her BFF, Molly start their first day of school and it is a disaster. The book is both funny and relatable when Sadie, falls in the mud, gets lost and winds up in a boys locker room. There is also a cute boy, mean girls and a shift in the relationship she has with Molly. >Sadie’s family is confusing. Sometimes they act loving, but mostly they just ignore Sadie. Kade is the cute boy from an important family. He likes Sadie despite her differences. There is a mystery as to what exactly happened to Sadie to cause her differences. The vampire school is not a friendly place and Sadie doesn’t last long. >This book is appropriate for an older young adult (18+) audience. There is one erotic scene that could have been taken out. The book seemed to be confused as to what age it was catering to. I am giving this story 5 stars. I loved the way vampire life was portrayed. I really like the idea of Sadie trying to fit in with the humans and can’t wait until I read the next book.
Caught in Between is q good story about a teen who doesn't fit in no matter what she tries. Unfortunately, despite all of the material on Sadie, her friend and boyfriend are not well developed. Why did Sadie and Molly become best friends? What is Kade’s deal? I think despite this aspect of the novel, it is still a good book for teens and pre-teens to read because they can see that there is a place that they fit in they just have to find it and not give up. Without giving up plot points there are also some other things that happen in the story that left me asking, “What just happened and why?”. This story is like that movie or tv show that is not the best thing on tv but you can’t help but watch it because you know what it is like to be a misfit. The lack of development of the people important to Sadie and the holes in the plot are why I gave this 3 stars. I got a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Loved it! It's a YA para book that definitely holds interest! Sadie is a bit of a misfit of a teenage vampire that doesn't really fit in. She's sweet and awkward clumsy and mostly very unvampire like as if being a teenager isn't difficult enough! There's a bit of a mystery to why that is and she's just doing her best to find her place in the world. I can't wait to see what happens next because this girls life certainly isn't predictable or boring.
I thought this was a pretty cute book. I like that it wasn't a typical vampire story and that it focused more on the characters than anything. I felt Sadie, the main character, was incredibly likable and I found myself invested in her story. This was a really quick read and lacked some depth, but, overall, I felt it was enjoyable.
The eternal story of the shy girl that doesn't fit in. Our oen story of how our differeces turn to failures, and then to insecurities. It is more than another teenage drama but the reflection of ourselfs trying too hard to be like the rest when we can just go to the road our own nature takes us. Anybody can identified with this story.
This book was even better than I anticipated. I downloaded it for free just from the description I thought was hilarious (a vampire that can't stand the sight of blood. Oh the IRONy). I laughed. I cried. Would read again. And would recommend to friends and family. Looking forward to the next.
I love this story that's an awesome new take on vampires. I was addicted from page one. I absolutely can't wait until I can get the sequel. I'd recommend for teens to adults. :):):)
This is a great story, for YAs, and for anyone. The plot is unexpected and unique, and as we gradually understand that all is not as it seems, it becomes clear just how different it is from your average vampire story. Great job Ms. Perry.
This is a fun teen novella with an interesting vampire twist. I love the matter-of-fact introduction to the main characters as vampires and the way that's blended into what would be a fairly predictable teen romance, making it unique. I'd be curious to read the next installment.
Quite accurate depictions of a 16-year-old. Writing is mostly great, and so is the storyline. Loads of comma splices and fused sentences, though. Missing vocative commas before and sometimes after names.
Kind of a fun read, even if it does rip off Twighlight just a bit. But a fun take on the genre. I just felt like the book kind of lacked a complete plot. It read more like a too-long prequel novella and stopped right when the interesting stuff is about to happen.
This is an entertaining book but more for teen agers or young adults. To know how Sadie does in regular school and in her future as a vampire you have to keep reading the series.
I'm not a huge fan of vampires, but I'm always on the lookout for a decent vampire story to make me change my mind. This one had a good premise and I liked the idea of a vampire who wasn't very vampire-like. But, meh, that's about all I liked about this one.
I grabbed up the book because i wanted to read it an see if it was appropriate for my daughter. I ended up enjoying it immensely and couldnt put it down. I cant wait to see where the plot is going and what happens to the characters!!!
I read the book in one day. It had everything you needed to enjoy from 1st to last page. There is some mystery to involve you as well. Can hardly wait for the second book
I went on thinking it would be another teen vampire book. It us but the characters are so real and in-depth. Even though it's about vampires, the feelings and actions are true to anyone. I enjoyed the book and looking forward to reading book 2.
I enjoyed reading this, the only disappointing thing was that the story just got going and then it was over, hopefully the next in the series will take the story a little deeper.
