Prior to her first published work in 1984, Connie was a full time homemaker. Always an avid reader, writing was one of Connie's dreams.

In addition to writing and traveling, Connie enjoys telling anyone who will listen about her three children and nine grandchildren, and sharing memories of her years living abroad in Europe and Asia as the wife of a career serviceman. In her spare time Connie enjoys reading, dancing, playing bridge and freshwater fishing with her husband.
I really enjoyed this story. Liked both Guy and Bliss. Two young lover, who lives were ruined by her father and his evil partner. Who both wanted her inheritance.
Both very young Guy & Bliss fall in love & get secretly married. Her father being in debt had other plans not just for her but for himself, for this to happen ruins all the plans! She is to be married off to his partner Gerald & he will have his debts paid off as well Gerald gets Bliss's inheritence.A duel takes place as Gerald claims Bliss is his, Guy is framed & put into jail & beaten and set up to be killed. Bliss knows nothing of this, and is told he died in jail of a fever.Guy survives his ordeal but at the price of losing his eye. He escapes to the island of where pirates live & becomes one & now seeks revenge of Gerald & Bliss & her father. Unknown to him Bliss had his child & the child died at birth ( which unkown to Bliss it did not)When she finds out her father & Gerald lied & gave her child away she runs away to find him,and is captured by pirates & taken to the island from ransom. ENTER "Hunter" the pirate bent on revenge! who is to take Bliss back. Now here is where the dissapointment starts for me..you'd think that even not seeing someone you were so close to in "all ways" and loved deeply you would remember them right? even though he now wears a patch over his eye, I found it hard to for her not to reckonize him. Maybe for the first of the story..but it pretty much carried on more than half way threw 1) they sleep together almost every chapter. 2) He drops SO many hints & slips on details only they would know. 3) He finds the son & brings him to live with him. Even when he comes back with a new identity as "Guy Hunter" you think she'd get it? FINALLY when the "light bulb" comes on the story gets a bit better. The story/plot was good but the author dragged out the "Bliss dosent know him WAY too long. I felt the characters lacked personality as well. Ive always enjoyed a Connie Mason read, but this one didnt make the 4-star mark for me. SmittenKitten & I buddy read this one and I hope she enjoyed it more...
Guy De Young and Bliss Grenville fell in love when she was just 17 and he 21, as the head of her father's stables Guy was not suited to be Bliss's match, especially when Bliss's father has plans to give her hand to the business partner he in financially indebted to (Gerald Faulk)! After a duel gone wrong Bliss's father and Faulk conspire to put Guy in prison and keep him there permanently!! After a year in prison Guy is about to be released and Faulk is desperate, he sends an assassin to murder Guy. But through an amazing stroke of luck Guy is able to defeat the assassin and trade places with him in order to escape. Thinking that Bliss has no real feelings for him Guy leaves New Orleans and Bliss forever, or so he thinks, Guy is reborn into the life of a cut throat pirate... Hunter.
After being separated from Guy by her father and Faulk, Bliss finds herself pregnant with Guy's child! After a difficult delivery Bliss believes her child has died and now not only does she mourn the loss of her husband, but the loss of her son, the child she was never able to tell Guy about! After 5 years of refusing to marry Faulk, Bliss's father and Faulk are getting desperate for money and need Bliss to marry Faulk so that they can gain control of her inheritance! In order to keep her primed for marriage Bliss's father and Faulk conspired not only to get rid of Guy but they arranged the removal of her son! Just as Bliss is about to give in and agree to marry Faulk she finds out her son is alive!!! She sets out immediately to retreeve her son from the foster home he has been placed in. After boarding a ship bound for her son Bliss is captured by pirates and thrown directly in Hunter's path!
Hunter recognizes Bliss for who she is but after loosing an eye to the battle with the assassin long ago Bliss is unable to recognize Hunter for Guy (really unlikely in my mind especially since she has slept with Hunter and Guy! come on how do you not notice eye patch or not it's only been 5 years who forgets what there husbands face looks like?!?!) Hunter has plans for Bliss, he takes her away to his own private island in order to seduce her, he plans to impregnate her and then send her back to Faulk (who he thinks Bliss actually wants to marry)
Bliss confides in Hunter about Guy and there son, and drama unfolds as they both fight to find there son, expose Faulk for the devil he is, and battle with the secrets and misunderstandings keeping them from finding the love and life that they lost.
I loved this story I loved the characters and the emotional turmoil they both go through made the story a real page turner, Connie Mason is very quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors!
I really love this book and the way Connie Mason put her special touch on it. Guy/Hunter I thought was a nice guy not sweet at first but are they always when they are pirates and Bliss very strong will lady, I love their chemistry together and the love scenes are never lacking with Connie Mason, Half way through the book it got really fun, action pack and up tempo for me it was a page turner towards the end it was a good and ok read for me..
It is the typical i'm a pirate, i'm holding you hostage because what happen to me or what your family did to me, but you know its how each author put their little spin and twist to the story....
If you do decide to get the book I hope you enjoy it....(:D)
Oh lord, does it get any worse than this in the cheesy romantic novel department? I'm all for good pirate smut if it's at least well written. But this literally felt like romance novel Mad Libs. (Hero Name) is torn away from (Heroine Name) under the belief of her betrayal. Heroine doesn't recognize Hero now that he wears (facial mask device). Hero seduces Heroine and discovers she (declaration of love/big reveal). Uggghhhh.
Bliss (a preposterous name for a female) is so daft and naive it's almost inconceivable. Couple that with the fact that she happens to have a charming and adorable son that is conveniently the child of her "dead" husband and the vomit was hard to suppress. Save your energies for better novels.
The absolutely preposterous premise of this story's whole plot just killed it for me. You're telling me that the heroine didn't recognize her husband? Sorry. I don't buy it. The story moves along quickly enough, and the bits on Pine Island are well-written and romantic, but I really felt the characters lacked depth and development, and the whole book was full of the most unbelievable misunderstandings and miscommunications. Plain daft. I only gave it 2 stars because at least I finished it.

Oooh, I get so mad at this trope: Young Lovers Are Torn Apart By Her Father; Hero Thinks She Rejected Him. Years later, dressed as Fabio in an eye patch, he captures her and plots his rape-y revenge. This would never happen now, what with Twitter etc., but back in the day I guess the evil father could make the lad believe the worst why he rotted away in Newgate Prison or wherever. When will Regency dads learn?
it was an awesome book...from the moment i had started reading it, i almost cant get off it..it only took me 6 hours from 9pm to 3am to finish reading it...! :)
Connie Mason's written some winners, but this one was a loser. It started out good, but then turned into crap. The sickening OM/villain got more attention than the H and h, and the book got downright sadistic toward the end. If you like torture scenes, you'll love this book, but if - like me - they make you want to puke up your latest meal, then skip this one, like I wish I had.
It seems like CM really wanted to dump on the H for his wild, unlawful days as a pirate, and he didn't deserve it because he had a good reason for taking up that way of life, after all he had been through. As if trumped up charges, prison brutality, the loss of an eye thanks to a paid assassin, not knowing for six years that he had a son, and believing the wife he loved had betrayed him (she was a victim too, of the machinations of both the villain and her own father), just when he gets his life together, CM works it out so he suffers horribly when kidnapped by OM/VIL. What did she have against her own H? I kind of get the impression that sometime in the past, she had a grand passion for a sexy alpha who lived life his own way, played by his own rules, made other women yearn for him, made other men envy him....he was hers, until he said, "So long, it's been fun, but it's done."
"The Pirate" by Connie Mason is a historical romance novel that tells the story of Lady Bliss and the pirate, Hunter who is actually her husband Guy. The plot of "The Pirate" is full of adventure and intrigue. Bliss believes that her husband, Guy, died, but he has actually become a pirate to avenge his enemies. When they are reunited, they must navigate their complicated past and the dangers of his life as a pirate. The story is set in exotic places, and the descriptions of the landscape and the customs of the time are vivid and immersive.
The romance between them is a second chance romance that is satisfying to watch unfold. They start out as enemies, but as they get to know each other again, they begin to fall in love. The love scenes are steamy and well-written, and add to the overall tension and passion of the story.
Guy/Hunter is a strong and honorable hero who is easy to root for. He is a skilled pirate who is feared by many, but he is also kind and protective of Bliss. His backstory is intriguing, and you will enjoy learning more about his past and how it shaped him into the man he is today.
Overall, the book is a well-written and engaging historical romance novel that will appeal to fans of the genre. The second chance romance plot is well-executed, and the adventure and action keep the story exciting. Give it a chance!
Okay, I admit it. I bought this book because I thought the guy on the cover was hot and because I was hoping for a good pirate book, something that is hard to come by these days. Don’t judge me.
So not sorry. If I had read the blurb, I would have passed on this book and would have missed a fantastic story that kept me up well past my bedtime and thinking about it while I did other things.
Contrary to what the synopsis stated, Guy DeYoung did have a name after he was "reborn”. How he got ìt wasn’t all that surprising, but it fìt.
He was a pirate who was part of a group of pirates and was told to take captive Bliss Grenville to Cuba to return her to her fiancé, who has paid a ransom for her. Once he sees her and realizes who she is the plan changed from a delivery to revenge.
I don’t want to risk any spoilers, but I will say these two had quite a history. I found it to be a little far-fetched that she didn’t recognize him, but if she had there wouldn’t have been a story.
There’s a lot of steam, some intrigue, great characters, love, betrayal, and a tight plot that earned this a solid five stars.
I know some people don’t care for the misunderstanding or lack of communication factors and this story is heavy on both. Just throwing that out there.
