4 SUPER-HOT stars!!
I just finished a great bowl of alphabet soup: M/M BDSM D/s. ;)
It was spicy and delicious, and, let me tell you, every one of those letters had a smile on my face as I read this one.
The Detective's Pleasure took me by surprise in the best possible way. And it wasn't just the hot-and-dirty kinky sex, the plot had some good depth to it and the characters were complex. A rare combination that I was thrilled to find within the pages of this book.
We have two cops. Ryan is a beat cop who's dying to make the SWAT team. He's socially awkward, lonely, and very wary of submission after being rejected a number of times over the years...and he's got a big chip on his shoulder. Sam is a detective. He's older, dominant, very comfortable in his own skin - and despite Ryan's attitude, he wants to erase the hurt he sees in the other man's eyes. They decide that Sam is going to help Ryan get over his ex and learn how to fully embrace his submissive side.
I admit that I didn't like Sam in the beginning. He's the kind of Dom that doesn't do much for me, one who's slightly condescending, into denial, and mild humiliation. But as the story progresses, so does his character. As he falls deeper into the 'relationship' with Ryan, tiny flaws appear in his perfect facade.
Ryan was also a very interesting character. He was this strange combination of overly self-confident and socially awkward, which caused him to stick his foot in his mouth constantly. I could really identify with him, lol. He also evolved nicely and I loved all the emotion his POV brought to the story.
As far as the plot goes, perhaps Ryan's 'problem' - his inability to give into his submissive tendencies - could have been presented with a bit more depth, but I can't complain too much because that also improved over the course of the novel. Plus, I really liked how the author portrayed the psychological effects of being a member of the SWAT team, a high-stress, dangerous job.
And drum roll please . . . major kudos to author Christa Tomlinson for telling a story about gay characters that had nothing to do with being gay. There was no angst about being attracted to someone of the same sex or about coming out. Ryan and Sam were just two guys who found love, plain and simple! LOVED IT!

Loved this story. I am a fan of the first book in this series ,The Sergeant, which was Logan and Clay's story. I remembered the trouble Ryan caused for them in that story so, I was really interested how she was going to redeem him. Oh Boy did I love Ryan in this book. His pain felt so deep I didn't think he was going to crawl out of it. He was heartbroken. Then Sam comes along and offers to help him become the submissive he wants to be. They have their issues of course but in the end they fall in love. Great writing in this book and the character development is excellent. Chemistry between these 2 were off the charts for me, enjoyed the whole story.The BDSM scenes were hot and very sexy at the same time. The wax scene was my favorite. I enjoyed seeing Clay and Logan again. Hope there will be more in this series.

Standing from the outside looking in is always tough. When one is competent, loyal and wants to give so much, it is hard to understand why one is unwanted. Ryan Bennett is the kind of cop who exemplifies ethics and rigidity. He follows the rules and he does his best to serve. He is hard working and not afraid of taking more classes to give him an extra edge. Whilst he excels in his technical or "specialized" skills, his communication skills need a little bit of work. He is not exactly a team player and he does not understand why he is constantly rejected.
New to me author, Ms. Tomlinson does a great job of showing Ryan's point of view. From a character building perspective, this book rocks. I felt so badly for Ryan. He keeps trying. He is amazing but he doesn't understand the human aspect. I can relate and wanted to see Ryan finally find acceptance. He strives to be in SWAT not understanding he needs to be accepted and trusted as a team member. He may have the skills, but in the heat of the job, people revert to trust. The team is divided about Ryan. His conservative opinions of rules and regulations do not help. What also doesn't help is that he wants one of the SWAT team's leaders, Sergeant Logan Pierce. This unrequited desire to be submissive to the dominant in Logan only makes it more awkward. For me, it seems as if Ryan is always getting kicked when he tries to reach out for a connection. This makes him close down more and causes more miscommunications. When another dominant takes interest in Ryan, this is when it becomes interesting.
Detective Sam Roberts is not looking for long term but he is interested in the closed off submissive, Ryan. When the two play together, it is clear this is no simple hook up. Neither knows how to proceed without fumbling. This initial start of a D/s relationship with the submissive only interested in bottoming is realistic and amusing. The false starts and frustrations are easily relatable. When the two open up to each other and foster trust, this is when my heart breaks. Ryan shares his desire and it is clear, he feels he is always rejected as not good enough. For someone who is so competent and giving, it is hard to understand why he is always left in the cold. Others may not like Ryan and believe he has a stick up his butt. I see him as the prized German Shepard that never had a stable owner and is abused through neglect. This is not to say that love of a good man is what makes Ryan whole. It is to say those who need to be accepted for who they are, when no one wants them, it leaves them feeling broken and damaged. This is a heinous crime in my book because it isn't visible pain, only internal which sometimes is worse. Ryan is a complex character who is not easily liked and often misunderstood.
The BDSM between Sam and Ryan is good. It is mild play, mostly because Sam is trying to coax Ryan to trust him. The sex is erotic and enjoyable to read. The BDSM element in this book could actually be left out and still make an excellent story. This is because the plot and character building is what attracts the reader. The kink is a nice little spice to kick up the heat. This is the second book in the series and can be read as a standalone. This m/m erotic suspense is recommended to kinky readers who have a soft spot for characters with sticks up their butt.

I haven't read anything by Christa Tomlinson before, but I can guarantee you that I'll be reading plenty from now on. This is also the most risqué M/M erotica/BDSM story I've read so far, and while I'm still new to this level of naughty storytelling, I thought it was quite well done and it certainly left me intrigued for more.
Ryan is one heck of a fiery sub, the "brat" label fits him perfectly. But there's history behind his attitude, most of which we don't find out about until the second half of the story. I found Sam to be deliciously dominating and a great match to help rein in Ryan's willful ways. I do confess, for most of the first half of the story I was a bit put off from the matchup of the two of them, but once the scene where Sam has Ryan tell him about his previous Dom's comes up, the intensity of everything ratchets up to an extreme level and from that point on the book becomes simply unputdownable.
Watching as Sam helps Ryan is actually quite mesmerizing. Add in the tension and suspense from the SWAT team issues with Ryan joining the team as well as the pranks being called in that they can't seem to solve, and I was pulling a marathon reading session since I couldn't pull my eyes away from the pages. I loved that we got both Sam and Ryan's points of view, it made the story more enjoyable and gave it so much more depth.
Since this is my first book by this author, I wasn't familiar with the other characters featured that were in the first book, but what I read here in this story has me going back to read it. I simply HAVE to know what the story behind Logan and Clay is. All of the supporting characters are written very well and have excellent depth, which now has me hoping for many more stories in this series.
For a story that took me much further outside my comfort zone than I've yet been in this genre, The Detective's Pleasure was a thought-provoking, titillating read and shines an intense light on Ryan and Sam as they develop their dynamic relationship...ultimately delivering a deeply satisfying conclusion. Though I do admit I was rolling my eyes the teensiest bit at the result of the SWAT pranking case.
4.5 purely erotic stars for The Detective's Pleasure, recommended only for those 18+ fans of M/M erotica/BDSM stories. And yes, there's plenty of highly explicit erotic M/M sexual content...you've been warned (be sure your ice and battery supply is full and the A/C is turned to high--you're going to need it).

It was fine.
Normally I would say that it was nothing special but to be honest I am really disappointed with this book. I was bored out of my mind the first 25-30% and I had to FORCE myself to keep reading this. Later it got better, but it was still far from good.
The authors writing is good and the pace is quite fast, but it is a little repetitive (Ryan taking care of his house chores, Sam's meeting with his sister, sex, Ryan's amazing talent to put a foot in his mouth all the freaking time) and after a while it just got annoying. Plus, how many times You can use word "beautifully" before it makes You wanna punch someone? Exactly.
Main characters are difficult to like. Ryan acts like a jerk from the very beginning and I had trouble understanding his actions. When it comes to Sam, he was irritating. He ALWAYS knew what was the best, what should be done etc. and Dom or not, he is a human first of all and it didn't sound real. The whole ending, collaring and love confessing felt somehow forced and unnecessary (at least all those I love yous). I didn't like MCs. AT ALL. AND OMG Sam going to Logan to talk about Ryan was like a bad, cheap soap opera. The first moment I was like "ARE YOU FOR REAL??" But he was, and it just made it even worse. for me.
The plot about prank calls and messing with SWAT was interesting and if there was more time dedicated to this my rating would be higher.
It was just another prove that it is better to have low expectations.

I love a good BDSM book and The Detective’s Pleasure had it! Ryan is an officer with the Houston police, with dreams of being on the SWAT team. It’s always been his dream, but that’s not his only one. He longs to find a man who will dominate him, but he never seems to find the right man for the job. And because of this he’s given up and won’t share that part of him anymore. Little does he know, Detective Sam Roberts can see through Ryan and can see the submissive in hiding and he wants to bring that out of him. Sam always gets what he wants and he knows he’ll get it from Ryan no matter what the cost.
This book had it’s emotional times and it’s definite sexy times. I loved the dominant and submissive relationship between Ryan and Sam. Their relationship never seemed forced while reading and I loved the development of their relationship. The book was well written and there were times, you forget you’re even reading, you’re so involved in the book!

I was given this copy for an honest review
This book was so beautiful written we first meet Ryan in book 1 of this series in book 1 Ryan was a bratty trouble maker trying to break up Clay and Logan. So starting this book I didn't no how I would like Ryan but I ended up liking Ryan we get a deeper look into what Ryan has been through and find out why he acts the way he does not everything is what it seems Sam is so great with Ryan he really was Patience and caring showing Ryan that he is special this book had me go through so many emotions I loved every minute of this book and I was sad to see it end

Ryan m'a fait passer par toutes les émotions, il m'a fait tellement de peine. Et sam est vraiment la meilleure personne pour lui, cela fut un plaisir de suivre leur histoire et voir leur évolution !
Et merci mon dieu, on est rentré dans les opérations du SWAT, c'était plus détaillé et il y avait une vrai enquête !

I was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
I did not read the first book in this series. However, despite those characters playing a fairly significant role in this story, I never felt lost.
This story is about Sam and Ryan. Both work for the police department, but Sam is a Detective and Ryan wants to be part of SWAT.
Despite his best efforts in book 1, Ryan found himself without Logan, the Dom who he had played with in book 1. Rather, he found himself envious of the relationship that Logan found with Clay. Logan had been in love with Clay, despite playing with other men and Ryan had let himself believe that he and Logan would wind up together. When that didn't happen, Ryan seemed to flounder with what were the next steps.
What complicates this matter further is that Logan is the head of a SWAT team and Clay is also on that team. Ryan has to prove himself to those around him that he deserves to be put on a SWAT team. During his training, he meets Sam.
Sam is a self assured detective who goes after what he wants. He is instantly drawn to Ryan while at a club and despite knowing the outcome of his first attempt to catch Ryan's attention would be a failure, he tries anyways. Sam is a bit of a conundrum. He had a long term relationship that did not end quite as he expected. Because of that, he seems almost shy, despite his going after what he wants.
When the two characters come together, they begin a journey that will unlock emotions in both of them that they are not quite ready to deal with. I truly felt the emotions that Ryan was going through - he made me cry with his desire to be owned, loved, cared for - solely for himself. Tomlinson wrote his emotions so clearly - I was able to really picture what was happening, while I was reading.
The reason this story received 0.5 stars off and didn't receive the full 5 stars was that the mystery aspect of this story was terribly anticlimactic. I was so sad when that happened and left feeling like, "what? that's it?"
However, the relationship and chemistry between Sam and Ryan was amazing. Despite the push and pull of the relationship, it felt genuine and unrushed.

The detective Pleasure had a number of elements that should have made it a great read: BDSM (which I love), an alpha-male setting (cops and a SWAT team), and a stubborn sub. Yet I found it hard to get into this book, and I never connected with it.
The primary reason was that I never warmed up to Ryan—and that’s putting it mildly. From the very first page, he came across as an arrogant, stuck-up, OCD type who sported an unhealthy obsession with his previous Dom. While we learn more about the reasons for his behavior later (he’s scared of being rejected again by a Dom), it didn’t make me like him.
The fact that he got screwed a few times and got his heart broken doesn’t automatically make him an attractive character to want to know. He pretty much stayed an aloof, stubborn guy until the last few chapters and that made it hard to feel any sympathy for him. His behavior on his new SWAT team, for instance, frustrated the hell out of me.
Sam, on the other hand, seemed almost too perfect as a character. He’s unflappable, has the uncanny sense to know what Ryan needs, accepts a whole lotta crap from him, etc. It made him untouchable, but also not really fallible and human. The one mistake we see him make is the way he offered to collar Ryan, and that was so weird and out of character that it didn’t make sense to me at all.
I did not read the first book in this series, but this one can certainly be read as a stand-alone. That being said, the backstory of Logan and Clay does play an important part here. Maybe if I had met Ryan in the first book, I would have looked at him differently, I don’t know.
Now, I realize this is all highly subjective, so I’m not saying by any means this is a bad book. It’s not. The writing is decent and relatively error-free, if somewhat detached. I think a closer POV where we would have gotten more into the heads and hearts of the two MC’s would have helped create more sympathy for them as well. The BDSM elements are well done, so I’m sure there will be plenty of people who will really enjoy this book. I’m just not one of them, sadly.

As I read this book, I found myself hesitant to step away and leave both of these MC's. Ryan has such a sweet heart that yearns so desperately to be loved and owned by a DOM that I fell in love with him right away. His tough exterior and social awkwardness makes him unlikable to those around him but it's just the mask he wears to keep his hurt inside. Sam sees this and embraces a chance to break away that exterior to get to his soft center. But Sam is unprepared for how to handle it once he has what he worked to expose and he fumbles the ball big time as he tries to deal with his feelings for Ryan and moving forward in their relationship. He gets a real big surprise when Ryan doesn't except his initial attempts but it sets Sam on a course to step back and really examine their future. They share many sexy moments and touching, tender scenes to lead them to a heartwarming HEA. I've liked all the books I've read by this author and this story was no different. It's well written and the pace of their relationship develops nicely. I would have liked an epilogue to see these guys a bit further down the road and the ending seemed a bit hastily thrown together to tie up some of the story loose ends. Overall, I enjoyed this book just as much as the others from this author.

This was exactly the kind of story I have been looking for. A BDSM story of a Dom helping a sub overcome his issues and finding his submissive self. The connection between Sam and Ryan was perfect. I loved how Sam wouldn't let things go with Ryan. He asserted his dominance when Ryan needed it, even when he was being a pain in the ass. The way he took care of him and helped him was exactly what I was in the mood for. This story fell into my lap at the perfect moment and I was completely sucked in from the start. I enjoyed this story far more than book one and was so disappointed to reach the end. I wasn't ready to be done with Sam and Ryan.

This book had more false endings than “The Return of the King”! I really thought that chapter was the end as it seems like it was spelling out the happy ending, only to turn to the next chapter - and it happens a couple more times!
I tried reading the first book in the series and I was not getting into it, even if I was already a chunk of a way through so I decided to give the next one a try.
Ryan and Sam are characters from the previous book who were also slightly involved with the main couple, but this one is their story. Ryan is a beat cop trying out for SWAT and has a troubled history with the team because of the romantic past. Sam, the detective, has been noticing Ryan at the club they frequent and decides to just shoot his shot. Basically, it is ‘patient man breaks down cool exterior of his partner and they work out their commitment issues together’ + BDSM.
I like both Ryan and Sam because they bring something out of each other, and they do manage to forge a deeper connection even if they started out on a technically casual/play only terms. I thought the incorporation of the dom/sub lifestyle was done seamlessly because it allowed the characters to deepen their understanding of each other not only through the physical aspect of the play, but their motivations and process on what they really want for themselves. Throughout the book Ryan and Sam had somewhat different expectations with different end results but has turned into something more healing for both of them.
I also think that the writing here has improved compared to the previous book. This one has a better narrative flow, and the author has conveyed what they want to tell out of Ryan and Sam���s story without making it too lengthly or not make it compelling enough to read. I’m also invested in the plot when it comes to romance books and while the plot is simple, the fact that it just made me want to read and root for these characters makes this a win for me.

NOW!!! Back to the WOW! This book was/is? FANTASTIC. I am in noway new to the world of BDSM, and Ms. Tomlinson has obviously done her homework. I have read MANY books by authors who have had absolutely no clue in how to portray 'the scene' accurately. Ryan is very believable as the angry sub who feels that no one wants him. Sam is also very believable as the Dom without a Sub because of one bad experience. Both men are in desperate need of a little TLC, and neither man really had a grasp of how to find the one they each truly needed ignored to be fulfilled. In a not so chance meeting at the very discrete BDSM club, aptly called The Den, Ryan and Sam meet. Ryan quickly dismissing Sam, but Sam not taking 'No' for an answer. I could easily tell the whole story right here, but then you couldn't receive the pleasure I had in reading this story.
On top of Ryan, and Sam's story, we are treated to a story/plot within their story. I love a book that isn't all sex, sex, sex, but also has something else to say. Enough said. If you're a fan of good BDSM, get this book, you will not be sorry!!!

Great follow up in this Dom/sub series
I actually liked this one better than the first one and I think Tomlinson dud a superb job to redeem Ryan from the arrogant arse of book one.
Sam was absolutely perfect for him and, while this book did have a side plot, it didn't take away from the main relationship narrative.
I also felt there was less drama or angsting in this one. Ryan's behaviour made perfect sense once his back story was given and I loved how Sam used his Dom's role to draw out all the pain and hang ups which he was hiding inside.

SWOONING!!
Okay, I am going to do my very best not to ramble like a crazed fan girl as I try to review the magic that is this book.
This book. Oh this book! Where do I even begin!? First off, I take back what I said about Logan in the first book, Sam is my everything. Sam is perfection! He's sweet and patient and his southern accent had me swooning. He was so perfect for Ryan in every way imaginable. Then there's Ryan. Sweet, angry little Ryan haha. I really enjoyed getting to know him in this book. Especially since in the first book I hated him so much. He almost came off as mean just for the sake of being mean. In reality he's better and hurt and understandably so. You actually really start to sympathize with him and cheer him on in the book. There were Parts where I wanted so badly for him to succeed but he didn't and I would just be so sad for him but that's Christa Tomlinson's writing. The girl likes conflict. But it was good conflict and I was here for it.
As for the technical side of things, I also really enjoyed how this book was written, significantly more than the first book. That could be a growth thing on the author's part but I don't think so. I've read the novella which is the third book in the series and it reads very similar to the first book (which is expected since it's about the same couple). It's almost robotic and right to the point (except for the sex scenes and dialogue) which is it a bad thing, it's just a writing style. One I'm not a super fan of but won't knock a book for it either. This one isn't like that, at all. It flows and it's really easy to get lost in which is great because it makes you understand Ryan even more. I'm not sure why the change in writing styles (and it is a noticable difference). It could be as simple as because it's a different couple it's a different point and tone she's trying to get across. Either or I love this book and I was swooning the entire time.
I very rarely buy books I read on KU by will fork out the 4.99 for this one because I need it in my life that much. 5 Stars. 7 Stars if such was possible.

Having adored the first book in the series, I was fervently hoping that two peripheral characters from The Sergeant, Ryan and Sam, were going to be paired up, and I was most definitely not disappointed! Ryan is a Houston cop working his tail off to learn how SWAT works and become part of the team. He’s also a very bratty submissive in need of a firm hand. Sam is a detective working in the same precinct who is also just precisely the kind of dom that can help Ryan embrace his needs.
Written with both characters demonstrating clear flaws so that neither is “super” cop or “super” dom, Ms. Tomlinson instead wrote about two men who sometimes get it just right, and sometimes blunder their way through various encounters. Ryan’s inner feelings of unworthiness and the reasoning behind them are heart wrenching. Sam’s ability to see and understand what’s going on yet still botch up the biggest moment of Ryan’s submissive life aggravated the tar out of me.
Incorporating work, social, and private scenes, the premise of the book is strong. First off, this was a bit of a hard read for me because of how close to home some of the protagonists' emotions felt. Both Ryan and Sam are real persons with real lifes and feelings, histories and troubles, and sometimes realism hurts even when it's not your own life that's on the line.
I know just how Ryan feels. There is nothing romantic or sensual about being replaced with another person and the jealousy that accompanies such a thing. I could almost taste the bitterness of that feeling on my tongue and it made me so hope for a turn for the better. The jealousy-issue didn't get a quick fix, but was handled with care and realism so that I could enjoy and understand it. The care for constructing the characters in a natural and realistic way repeated all through the book. For example, Sam might be a Dom, but he isn't perfect and gets his own conflict resolution just like he deserves.
Also: great depiction of a D/s relationship. At the end of the day, it's not about getting it in there, but about all those little interactions that maneuver one into the dominant position and the other in the submissive one. I liked the displayed power exchange very much, it felt very natural!
Lengthwise this book is simply perfect. It offers a beautiful, unrushed look into the machinations of a blossoming D/s relationship and takes its time laying out foundations first before turning into something more hot and serious.
TL;DR: Definitely recommended if you're looking for something realistic, serious, loving and deep.

This was a pretty good read. I didn't really remember the details of the characters from the first book so it was basically a blank slate for me character wise. I really enjoyed the character growth from Ryan. I liked their interplay and how Sam got Ryan to let his guard down and be open. Sam has some of his own, but I would've liked more. But I feel like he got let off the hook in all the focus on Ryan. Ryan was super prickly, he was just a awkward bitter dude in a great way. I liked that he did end up standing up for himself and what he wanted from the relationship. Sam was just solid, and nice, and understanding, without being milquetoast. He still had his Dom edge. I enjoyed seeing Clay and Logan again, though Clay and the entire SWATSquad(except the woman sub, whose name I can't recall at the moment) took a few likeability hits. I thought they were just childish, and a bit "mean girl"esque. The wrap up to the "Who is swatting?" mystery was super rushed and the entire mystery felt shoehorned in. I don't think it really added anything. But the relationship with Ryan and Sam was really nice, and I really liked them together. Hoping there will be a third book because I do enjoy this series.

This is book 2 of the series and I gotta read book 1.
Book 2 is about Ryan Bennett who is training to be a SWAT member, but he's having problems with the rest of his team. I guess in book 1, he was in a short relationship with one of the main characters, the captain, and the team isn't too welcoming cause the captain's current lover hates him. The lover who also happens to be in the same team.
I really hated how they treated him. They're supposed to be professionals, yet they let some personal stuff that didn't involve them get in the way. They're attitudes were very juvenile. Ryan got on my nerves too, but I felt bad for him. Good thing he had Detective Sam Roberts on his side. Sam was very patient towards Ryan in my opinion. I loved the first book in this series, if you haven’t read it, you should. It will give you some back story on Ryan. I hated Ryan in the first book, wasn’t sure I was going to like him in this book either but I wanted to see if he could get his happy ending. We briefly met Sam as well in the first book. Man Ryan was a jerk in the first book and at times he came off that way in this book too but we find out why. I actually ended up loving him! I love how patient Sam was with Ryan but he TOTALLY screwed up towards the end, I was so upset with him, but he made up for it thank goodness! Once again, I highly recommend this book.

March 11, 2016This book was much more enjoyable then book 1 and I look forward to reading more from this author. In this book we meet Sam and Ryan and this book just seem to jump up and say you must continue to read. I didn’t care much for Ryan in the first book but it was clear right from the beginning where the author was going. Yes it was not perfect. There were scenes that I didn’t like but in the end I came to love and respect Ryan. Most of all there was love and respect not just HOT sex. I will definitely be looking for more books from this author.

I you can't help but feel sorry for Ryan and he upset with him at the same time. He has demons that keep him from forming relationships but he just wants to belong. Sam is patient and firm and willing to help Ryan overcome his fears. I love Ryan and his flaws. This is the first time I've read a book with the dom that was so understanding and a sub that so forceful. I look forward to the next book.

Ok, so we all hated Ryan in book 1 but put him in the hands of Detective Sam Roberts and see what happens. Sam breaks him down and builds him back up, beautifully. So, I was a little surprised that Sam got the generic, run of the mill, thing in a box so wrong (cos no spoilers) but he redeems himself, as does Ryan . Highly anticipated sequel turns into a really great read.

Ryan Bennett has been on the Houston Police Dept. force for quite sometime but strives to make the SWAT team. He yearns to be apart of the SWAT "family" but there is a little glitch with this scenario... his ex-Dom, Logan Pierce, is the leader of SWAT and his new current sub, Foster, is on the same team. To be apart of the "family" he would have to put his personal opinions aside and move forward. But can he?
Being in the D/s scene for 7 years, he never once has had a collar. As a sub, he wants to find that Dom that will care for him, love him for who he is and in return he can take care of his Dom. Seems like M/M is making a comeback in the Romance genre and I definitely suggest reading The Detective's Pleasure! Great love story between Ryan and Sam. Ryan overcomes his low self-esteem through the help with Sam and his loving ways. Ryan does have foot-in-mouth syndrome a couple of times and I wanted to slap him and say "what the heck!" I can see Ryan and I being best friends and to see the struggle he was going through emotionally was hard but the ending was HEA!

I read this book without reading the first book in the series. I assumed from what I read that Ryan must have been a complete ass in book 1 for Logan and Clay to be treating him this badly, but nope - I had a quick skim through book 1 and found the first interaction between Logan and Ryan to be a very rude 'get lost, you are nothing to me, I have Clay now'.
From Book 1: Logan got up close in Ryan’s face. “Don’t worry about what he knows. He doesn’t concern you. I don’t concern you. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll keep that in mind and stay away from Clay. Do you understand?”
So after 2 years of using Ryan for sex/friends-with-benefits, this is how Logan treats him. It's written very clearly that Ryan had strong feelings for Logan and that Logan is aware of this. It is quite natural for someone who has been spurned like this to act out. Furthermore, Ryan never lied when he revealed the drunken interaction with Logan to Clay, he stated fact.
I don't normally ramble on in reviews like this, but I was getting so irritated in book 2 (after my brief backtrack into book 1 ) because we were reading about how Ryan was supposedly redeeming himself for his past wrongs. In my mind he did nothing wrong, so the journey felt flawed. The character was treated badly throughout book 1 and 2, and had no wrongs to make right. Logan is the character that should be on a redemption journey for having strung a sub along for so long and then callously discarding him.
Now that I have that out of my system, I will comment on the two MC's from book 2 - I didn't feel any connection with this pair. I kept hoping it would deepen towards the end of the book, but it didn't. Sam ended up seeking relationship advice from Logan of all people. Which was a massive betrayal of Ryan's trust given the prior treatment dealt out by Logan towards Ryan, and also with Logan being Ryan's boss! I can only give this 2-angry-stars

I almost cried myself to sleep with this book. Out of boredom and anger. I couldn’t finish the first book of this series either; I got bored. At least the characters on that one dint piss me off, so that’s a win.
Oh but this one? My God is Ryan an insufferable character. He is proud, arrogant, won’t listen to good advice for his own good, refuses to play with the team (How can you possibly believe that being friends with the rest of the SWAT team it’s not a priority? It’s like being a soldier in the Army and thinking that developing a relationship with the other soldiers it’s not a priority. They NEED to have your back, your LIFE depends on it. If they think you’re a stuck up ass, good luck with that), he flat out says once that he “has connections to help him advance” towards being a member of the SWAT team (Instead of, you know...hard work, merit and being nice). I puked a little inside my mouth and I am pretty sure I rolled my eyes so hard they fell out of my skull and are rolling down the street right now. That’s when I stopped reading so, I don’t know anything about the ending, if he had a redeeming arch, which I don’t think he did by the reviews I’ve seen, and I honestly don’t care about it either.
