In 1861, a young naïve Virginian feels compelled to enlist in the Confederate Army. Ned McDonald with his talented horse, Jake, set out to do their part in the Civil War.
During his early enlistment, he falls in love with a runaway slave girl, Lizza. Their relationship dictates many of his future decisions. As his allegiance to the revel cause begins to fray, his is forced to make choices that have dire consequences. After effectively serving the Confederates, he changes sides and subsequently becomes a high-ranking Union officer.
His talents as a scout usher Ned into the company of rebel generals, including General Robert E. Lee and the famous cavalry general J.E.B Stuart, as well as Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy. Ned later becomes endeared to Union general U.S. Grant, the future President of the United States, and General George Meade, the hero of Gettysburg.
With Lizza’s untimely death and as Ned and Jake move further into the war, he becomes romantically involved with the highly acclaimed rebel spy Rose O’Neal Greenhow.
As Ned plays his next hand, his choices determine if he can survive with his values intact as a man and as a Virginian.

If you're a fan of historical romance, especially during the Civil War era, then this is a must read. Even Civil War buffs will enjoy this novel as it contains historical facts and locations of battles, cities, and Union and Confederate officers and spies.
The love stories that permeate this book are quite intriguing, but, at the same time, leave plenty to the imagination...no smut!
Ned McDonald's journeys will have you on the edge of your seat, laughing, cheering, crying and praising the Lord! This first in the many to come novels by C.R. Clark is not to be missed!
Don't miss out on this new romantic fiction set during the Civil War era!
