How To Silence A Rogue

Rate this book
Miss Maria Garten had one more season till she was firmly on the shelf.
One. More.
It was her only chance, because while some ladies could pretend or sincerely be at peace with the life of spinster.
She was not among their ranks.
Taking a deep breath, she reminded herself once more to think before she spoke. It shouldn’t be difficult.
Except that it was, for her at least.
Because the only thing more certain than her potential future as a spinster was that Mr. Sheppard was a confirmed bachelor.
A rake of the first order.
Not the kind that would ruin an innocent, but the kind that would charm them, seduce her with his charming words, make her fall in love with the legendary smile and easy manner that was as easy as breathing.
And then he’d walk away to find a new distraction.
Utterly unaware that he had broken a few hearts in the process.
Maria refused to be counted among them.
She needed a husband, not a distraction.
After all, friendship was far less complicated.
Wasn’t it?

Kristin's inspiration for the romance she writes comes from her tall, dark and handsome husband with killer blue eyes. With five children to chase, she is never at a loss for someone to kiss, something to cook or some mess to clean but she loves every moment of it! She loves to make soap, sauerkraut, sourdough bread and gluten free muffins. Life is full of blessings and she praises God for the blessed and abundant life He's given her.

How to silence a rogue by Kristen Vayden is such a fun cute read!!! Oh Curtis, he's determined to be a bachelor yet when his friend calls his bluff he realizes that he is in love and it will to risk a chance. He met his match in more ways than one in Maria Garten! I love that she challenges and teases him. Great book!!

I can already tell that The Forsaken Lords Series is going to be one of my favorites. This is written as a stand alone, but if you read or have read The Greenford Waters Series, you'll recognize Lady Southridge and those associated with her. Mr. Sheppard and Miss Garten's story is not connected through family ties, but through both business and social relationships.

Miss Maria Garten has grown weary of her mother's negativity regarding her prospects of marriage and has thus solicited the help of her dear friend Mr. Sheppard to hopefully find a worthy match. She would be at peace should she never marry, except for her mother's meddling and constant criticism.

Mr. Curtis Sheppard is a confirmed bachelor and enjoys his friendship with Miss Garten - he always makes sure to save her a waltz and her constant chatter is a much needed relief from the awkward silence that often accompanies the stilted conversation with eligible young ladies of Society.

It comes as quite a shock when Mr. Sheppard realizes he has found the perfect companion in Maria, but winning her heart will be somewhat difficult considering he provided her a list of eligible bachelors and practically thrust her into the arms of another man.

I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Sheppard's wooing game - so fun and romantic. Miss Garten is an intelligent young woman who can accomplish anything once she sets her mind to it. The subplot involving Beatrix Lamont was a fun addition to the love story.

Ms Vayden's books are always a sweet and delightful escape from the humdrum of everyday life. Her Regency period stories always bring a smile to my face and a little bit of a sigh as I take the opportunity to spend a little time in yesteryear.

FYI ~ clean read

Kristin Vayden warms our hearts in How to Silence a Rogue. Maria Garten is a spinster, on her final season she must find someone to marry. Curtis Sheppard is a bachelor with the heart of gold, being the gentleman that he is Curtis offers to help Maria find a suitable husband; that’s when the secret admirer letters start rolling in.
When Curtis is called away to investigate a case, Maria does a little investigating herself as to who this secret admirer really is.
I’m a huge fan of Kristin Vayden’s work and loved How to Silence a Rogue was brilliant. Maria and Curtis have a special bond and friendship that automatically draws you in. I loved the special appearance from some of our favourite characters from Kristin’s previous series, and I cannot wait for more. How to Silence a Rogue is a beautiful and witty love story that will have you devouring this book.

I have read my fair share of romance novels. I’ve read romance that would turn most people’s faces red and I’ve read sweet, simple romance. No matter the type of romance it is one of my favorite genres. I particularly enjoyed Kristin Vayden’s How to Silence a Rogue. It was engaging, sweet, and set during a time period that is one of my most favorite - the Regency period.

I have always enjoyed stories set in the Regency and Victorian era. How to Silence a Rogue has all the right elements that makes me love those eras so much. Her descriptions of balls, ball gowns, and men’s formal attire left me eager to be in that setting. It helped that the plot of the story had some excitement and a whole lot of ardor.

I adored Maria and Curtis. Even though it was Maria’s last season and she was desperate to find a husband, she kept her head held high. Her mother was the most vexing character, but it did get the plot moving by having Maria ask for Curtis’s help in finding a husband. That’s when the realization hit that Curtis may not want to live the bachelor life any longer.

How to Silence a Rogue was a fun read, especially when true emotions started coming out. The ending had me swooning and the epilogue left me with a sense of happy completion. This was a stand alone book, but I am eager to read Vayden’s other books set in the Regency era.

A Bit of RomCom Meets Regency

With a bit of a friends to lovers RomCom wrapped into a Regency, Kristin Vayden brings to life a delightful story of an outspoken and intelligent young girl, Miss Maria Garten, who is in her final season, a season that could determine whether being a spinster is in her future. However, if her good friend Curtis Sheppard, a renowned rake and confirmed bachelor, has any say, he will help her find the perfect catch—as she is too good of a woman to allow just anyone have her hand. Too bad he is not willing to take the plunge. But when pressed with the reality that their friendship could suffer, will Curtis be able to watch her marry someone else?

Kristin Vayden weaves together not only a bit of adventure and intrigue into the story, but she will delight readers with the exchanges that take place and the strengths and determination found as Maria and Curtis both work to rise above the struggles of their minds and the conventions of the ton. Maria is a heroine worth loving, and Curtis is a rake worth falling for. Although this is a standalone, I encourage readers to read the Greenford Waters Series, especially A Tempting Ruin, as there are parts of this story that come into play, as well as details from The Forsaken Love of a Lord.

Another great regency romance by Kristin Vayden. I give it 4.5 stars. This is the last season for Maria Garten before she will end up being a spinster, something she most certainly does not want to happen. When her friend the confirmed bachelor Curtis Sheppard offers to help her find her love match she accepts his offer. Things are going well until Curtis realizes he may have feelings for Maria and needs to figure out what to do about it. This story offers mystery and intrigue and of course swoon worthy romance. I really enjoyed reading this story and especially enjoyed getting a peek of the characters from her Greenford Water Series! This book can be read as a stand alone but you may want to read A Tempting Ruin first this book crosses with that one some.

This story is as beautiful as its cover. I am a huge fan of Kristin's and she never fails to deliver a Regency masterpiece. The witty banter and the cat and mouse game is so sweet, funny and romantic. I love How to Silence a Rouge and you will too!

Make sure to also read A Tempting Ruin which takes place at the same time as this one.

I love historical romance and I loved Ms. Vayden's The One, so when I saw her How to Silence a Rogue, I immediately jumped at the chance to read it! And I have to say that I was impressed with how well written it was because I know writing a historical romance and making it good isn't easy, but man, did she do it! It was utterly fantastic and I had such a good time reading How to Silence a Rogue.

I really like Maria - she's an awesome heroine! She's smart, she speaks her mind, and she's strong. Maria's a little mischievous and devious and she's observant and good at figuring things out. Maria is a sweet, funny girl with a heart full of light - she's just lovely!

Curtis is fun and playful and charming, although he has a serious, tough side to him as well. He's thoughtful and romantic and he definitely has a little mischievous-deviousness going on too. Curtis is completely head-over-heels for Maria and nothing is going to stop him from getting her. He is absolutely wonderful and I positively loved him!

How to Silence a Rogue is short and sweet, but just because it's short doesn't mean that it's not as good or exciting. It sucked me in from the very first page and held my attention until the very last page. It's full of mystery, schemes, humor, a little danger and plenty of heart. It was so excellent and I can't wait to read more of Ms. Vayden's historicals - both the ones that are out or yet to come!

How to Silence a Rogue can be read as a standalone, it's told from Curtis and Maria's POV, and they get their happily-ever-after.
