“A piercing scream stopped him in his tracks; by instinct he dropped to a squat. He caught his breath as he had ignored the flooding room and now felt the icy water press against his chest... The noise grew louder as it moved closer to where Theo squatted neck-deep in the frigid water. “Murphy!” … Shards of the tile wall behind him flew in every direction as the bullet slammed into it, well above where Theo’s head had previously been.”
Seventeen year old Theo is caught up in a teenage world of driftboarding and hologames until his father’s friend and fellow scientist, Viktor Brack, destroys the laboratory, vowing to use a time machine to rewrite history. Trapped behind sealed doors, Theo promises himself to retrieve a book of secrets and prevent Brack’s evil plot. Theo and his robotic dog, Murphy, follow Brack 150 years earlier to Nazi Germany. After his own escape from a pit of death, Theo is rescued until evil and Hitler’s Youth attempt to kill him. He is found by sixteen year old Gracie, who understands the dangers of the streets. For both teens, the need to survive becomes a reality never touched by Theo’s false world of the hologame. Together, the teens take Murphy as they join an underground society, and begin a trek against the evil of Hitler’s regime. Dark alleys, tunnels, and creatures of repulsion force Theo and Gracie into a life-or-death fight to save both past and future.
First I would like to say that I am not a big sci-fi fan. However, I love historical fiction and putting those two genres together was a brilliant idea in my opinion. This book was full of great twists and it was interesting from start to finish. I loved this book so much and will definitely be reading it again!
Compelling Time Travel Drama! An intriguing beginning to this new series and I can’t wait to read more. This engrossing tale of adventure has Theo, 17, hurled back in time 100 years into Nazi Germany and it’s filled with historical drama, suspense, and twists. Enjoy!
I received an arc copy and am happy to leave my honest review.
Historical fiction and Sci-fi is awesome! Add some suspense and you've got Time Worm. This is an awesome story with great action and an engrossing story-line. I highly recommend this.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Funny story, the guy that wrote this was actually my swim coach for several years and I got it from him personally when he first published it!
I loved how relatable this book was. As a teenager, the behaviors, mannerisms, and sarcastic comments from the characters are very accurate. The classic teenage boy with a messy room, the dog who chews his slippers, and always skipping washing his back in the shower. The classic teenage girl who's got a little attitude, is independent, and knows how intelligent she is and uses that brain of hers. Since Jimmy Adams is a teacher at the high school in my town, I imagine that he took the behaviors of the many students he's taught and put it into this story. I loved how it has the appeal to teenagers, but it also has the appeal to adults. The writing is mature, yet understandable for younger audiences. The plot is very very creative and there's lots of action and twists and turns, and the descriptions are great. This book is well written and meticulous, but not to the point where it can drag on or get boring, or hard to understand. I loved the representation of who the characters are and how they think, how they grew up, how they live, how they go about things. This is a classic, yet interesting story of "time machine gone wrong". There was never a time while reading this book that I was bored. It keeps you engaged throughout the whole story.
He told me that there is going to be a second book at one point, and I really hope there is because I want to read more and the end left me wondering!
