B. L. PRIDE? Who is this, anyway?

It’s quite hard to write something unambiguous about B. L. Pride. She was born in Maribor, Slovenia, went to a particular high school, chose a university that seemed more or less interesting, and now she does completely different things. She’s a teacher and an executive assistant. She’s got two different men and four children. She’s full of opposites but has one great passion—books. Confusing? She’s actually an avatar of two best friends and a symbol of their lives’ project.

When the author Barbara Pristovnik finished her first novel that was originally written in Slovene, she never dreamed of sharing her lunacy with the rest of the planet but the other half of the team Lea Dežman put her foot down and decided to translate it into English. Two absolute beginners were swirled into the overwhelming world of self—publishing and took their Sunday coffee dates to a completely different level. Addiction is the result.

‘Addiction’ seized my imagination from the beginning, and kept me mesmerised to the very end. The writing is eloquently evocative of those often impossible to chart emotional states... falling in love...intense sexual infatuation... the intricate entwinement of attachment... the aching void of emptiness at love’s departure...the blissful rapture of reconnection... I was captivated by the relentless unfolding of Mila’s involvement with Adam, and the mystery of who he might really be. I evolved so many theories about him and the dilemma he struggles with in his love for Mila. I was also reminded of what it feels like to meet one’s soulmate – the heady euphoria that transports you into another dimension from the rest of the human race, who are leading their ordinary lives oblivious to your otherworldly connection to another. The story maintains a small cast of characters moving between a fairly limited urban landscape and within a short timeframe. This could feel claustrophobic, especially extended throughout the length of a novel, but the author keeps us as spellbound as Mila is herself by the interplay between her and Adam, and the conundrum that he poses. Who is he? Where is he from? What does it really mean when he describes himself alternately as ‘bodyguard’, ‘warrior’ and ‘soldier’? And who are his equally enigmatic companions, and the disturbingly menacing Bruno, his treacherous red-headed uncle and family assassin? By the time I was half way through the novel I was impatient to discover which of my theories about Adam would prove to be correct. I was also impatient with Alex, and with Mila’s refusal to ditch him, and I shared the evident frustration of Mila’s friends. Then I reminded myself how hard it can be to let go of what is bad for us, disempowering, and just plain encumbering. Such is the nature of addiction, of course, and I read much of the action in the novel as a metaphor for complex and often conflicting inner states of mind. Most of my sympathies lay with Adam, who carries the weighty burden of knowledge and insight that he cannot share, and is torn between the desire to follow his instincts and the responsibility he holds to protect Mila – not only from others, but from the darkest aspects of himself. As the novel moved into the final chapters I discovered that neither Alex nor Adam are quite what they seemed, although one of my theories about Adam proved ultimately to be more or less true – but I’m not saying which! There are, as the synopsis promises, dangerous secrets, fear, compulsion and plenty of explicit sex. And there is a question in the denouement that leads us to wonder where Mila’s obsession with Adam will lead her next. Since this is the first book in a series, we are destined to follow Mila and discover more answers – and possibly more questions, too...

B. L. Pride's Addiction is captivating from start to finish. The main character Mila is original, her emotions jump from the page and you find yourself suckered into her thoughts dreams and aspiration.
The attention of her love and addiction is Adam......he would be mine too if I could change places with her!

I didn't expect the amount of sexual interaction portrayed between Mila and Adam but as an afterthought and upon reflection it's needed. The author is subtle yet emotive when Mila and Adam are together and all sexual acts describe and show the rising passion between them. The words and descriptive narrative almost makes you a fly on the wall.

I didn't see the twists at all, they were fed into the story, then it was like....was that supposed to happen, wow where is the author taking me now? The mystery unfolds with a forward moving plot. I can honestly say I have never reacted to a book this way before.

Alex annoyed me big time, especially Mila's indecision on where he is in her life....but you have to read to find out why. The characterisation has been well thought out, not only for the main characters but also the secondary ones , like cunning Helen and others.

The plot is unique and BL Pride knows a how to tell a story and a captivating one at that. I understand Addiction was first written in her native language, hats off to the author for doing it. I can say nothing seems to have been lost in translation. The story is rounded and comes to a full conclusion but it leaves you wanting or rather needing to read more. Even though the ending for Addiction is complete the reader is left knowing there is definitely more to come. Well done BL Pride I look forward to reading your next book.

This book is soo amazing. It had me completely sucked in from the very beginning. I felt everything that Mila felt - her addiction, confusion, horror. I wanted things to work out so perfectly with Adam, and I absolutely hated Alex. I really hope he falls off a bridge or something (Adam, can you do something about that?? haha) I can't wait for the next one to come. Please don't take too long!! One of the best books I've ever read.

Mila in Adam, neustavljiva in v bistvu nerazložljiva privlačnost med njima. Skrivnosti, enega in drugega.
Na trenutke mogoče razvlečena, pa vendar ne pove ničesar. Vsekakor ravno prav skrivnostna, da se lotim naslednje.

Sometimes when I read other people’s reviews, I think, “Did we read the same book?”

Addiction wasn’t a bad book. Actually, I quite enjoyed it but there were also some things that I didn’t like. Before I go on and tell you about my thoughts on the book, I’d like to tell you a little about the story first.

So, Mila is a librarian who is devastated because her neighbour and good friend Mrs. Tichy just dies and also because she just broke up with Alex because he cheated on her. She is in a bad place and can’t figure out what to do next when she MEETS Adam. They both are instantly attracted to each other and can’t seem to deny the chemistry but there are too many secrets keeping them apart and when they are revealed, Mila’s world will never be the same.

Going into this story, I didn’t know much about it. Just the basics and I had very high hopes for it. It sounded romantic ans full off mystery and all that I wanted and in some areas, this book did give me what I wanted but then there were other things that I didn’t like about it.

Let’s start with the positives. I loved the plot and I loved the writing. The story was very steamy and full of suspense and the writing was nice and easy but the same time quite intense. Another thing about this book that I liked was Alex. At first I hated him and wouldn’t have cared if he fell off a cliff or something but later in the book I started to realise that I probably liked him more than I liked Adam which brings me to the negative part. I didn’t connect with the characters at all. I felt like I was sitting on the sidelines, I felt like a spectator looking into someone else’s life. When the character was happy, sad or confused, I was neutral. Not connecting with the characters really held me back from enjoying the book.

Another thing that I disliked about it was that it didn’t captivate me. I think that it again had something to do with me not connecting with the characters. Throughout the book, I never really gave it my undivided attention. I kept getting distracted and kept flipping over pages and because of this, it took a really long time for me to finish this book.

What I want to say is, I didn’t love the book and probably won’t read it again but if a second novel comes out in the Beyond Life Series, I most probably will read it.

Addiction is a difficult book to review, and not because it's bad. It has a pretty damned cool twist that I can't talk about lest I give away the mystery and I'm not so much of a jerk that I'd do that to you. There are some books that keep you guessing, where you just want to dig up the Wikipedia entry, read the synopsis and say, "Ah ha! It was the butler in the library with the candlestick. I never would have seen that coming."

But there is no Wiki entry for Addiction. You have to read it and you won't see it coming.

The title refers to Mila's (our heroine, also addictive) addiction to Adam, a mysterious and extremely hot sad guy who Mila falls deeply in love with. It's Adam's chemistry and touch that Mila becomes addicted to and she finds herself falling further and further for a guy she frankly doesn't know that much about. He's convinced she'll ditch him when she learns more about him and she's convinced she'll never leave him.

At its heart Addiction is a romance, but to keep things interesting it also has some great elements of mystery and acts as the set up for a series which should explain even more. Normally I'm not given to enjoying romantic stories unless they're of the "boy meets girl and they both fall in love under a full moon that turns out to be a space station" variety, but Addiction kept my interest until the end and now I find myself wondering where Mila, Adam, and that total jerkface Alex are going to wind up.

There's plenty of introspection on Mila's part, so you really get to know her as a person. There's also plenty of sex, intrigue, sex, wonder, sex, romance, and sex in the story. Just kidding; there are some sex scenes, but they're very tastefully handled which, in my opinion, keeps this firmly on the fiction side of the fence. With sex scenes it's easy to tip over into the erotica side of things (which isn't bad, I know plenty of great authors writing erotica), but B. and L. keep things well in hand (read their author bio for that tidbit).

Overall, though, it's the story that compels and keeps you coming back for more. So, B.L. Pride, you've got book one of the Beyond Life series out; we're wondering what will happen in book two.

I like to see the genre line being crossed, and in that respect this story does not disappoint. From the outset there is mystery and suspense. A three-way romance runs through a large part of the tale and due to it being written well, it grips the reader right to the end.
Addiction is a fitting title and it lives up to the name. At times I felt despair, annoyance, empathy, fear, anger and much more for one or more of the characters.
The imagery is good, and the sense of place is never lost. I was impressed by the expression of character emotions embodied in the main players.
If I had any constructive criticisms there would be two, but I am not prepared to drop my rating, because I believe that the positive aspects of the writing far outweigh the negative.
My first minor criticism is that the story is broken into sections and not chapters. Although this doesn’t spoil the story, I feel that distinctly titled chapters would enhance the reading experience.
A second minor criticism would be that on occasion a single character gives a lengthy statement during conversation. This stands out to me only because in natural conversation we tend not to speak too long without response or interruption. Having mentioned that particular issue, I believe that the dialogue is generally good and works to maintain the pace.
The sexual scenes of which there are plenty, are written with taste and subtlety. Rather than being written for titillation, they are produced to emphasize the chemistry between characters and for that reason, they are an important aspect of the tale.
If you enjoy a character-driven story of romance and suspense that can envelope you from beginning to end, then this is a book for you. It becomes an addiction …

Love Story Masterpiece

While attending a funeral of a close friend, Mila sees a man standing under a tree watching the service from afar. Mila took one look into his sad, grieving eyes and felt an instant attraction to him.
When they meet, sparks fly, their hearts melt and a deep, all consuming relationship begins. After knowing him for only six days, both Mila and Adam knew their lives would somehow be entwined forever.
Every relationship has its own set of problems, but as Mila tries to learn more about Adam, the more mysterious he becomes. Finally he admits his life is full of secrets that he can never share with her. She is told she must accept this if they are to have any chance of a future together. What is he hiding? How can she possibly agree to this?
One thing is for sure, they both know their ever growing, compulsive need for each other will be their demise if they don’t find a way to make this relationship work.
Author B L Pride has written a love story masterpiece. The combination between the story-line and the well developed characters along with the vivid imagination of the author make this an unforgettable book.

This review is from: ADDICTION (Kindle Edition)
B.L Pride has written a beautiful story.
It's dark.
It's romantic.
It's thought provoking.

Mila and Adam cross paths on a day of sorrow, and the roller coaster ride begins. There are ups, downs, and so much emotion in this book, it's hard to stop reading it. I polished it off in one day, and i hope that this author continued taking us on many more journeys.

I wanted to love.
Cry.
Weep.
Rejoice.
I didn't know which emotion would be coming next, but i anticipated each and every one. And Adam... what can i say? Not much, or it'll ruin the story, but trust me... you'll be in awe. I now appreciate artwork so much more (When you read the book, you'll understand!)

Thank you, B.L Pride for your excellent ride! It was amazing!

I like to be drawn in by a book, enticed to read more if you will. Right from the beginning I was caught by this well written, curious story that encouraged me to keep picking it up right to the very clever end. The title is more than apt and other reviews have only teased at the plot and for good reason I believe. I wanted to know what was coming next as each development unfolded and you will too.

Here we have well-structured, believable dialogue and strong intelligently written characters that I simply loved. The tension that is evident from the start is written with a distinctive style and the pace is perfect for the plot. Perhaps one of my quickest reads of the year despite its length, I can heartily recommend B.L. Pride’s addiction, something I can imagine readers developing for this talented writer’s work.

Addiction by B.L. Pride is a one of a kind story. Something so wonderfully unique that it is hard to categorize. It is a wonderful, poignant look at love and choices. The book is internal, psychologically investigative and yet it is also gorgeously written with wonderful descriptions that you read and think, "Ya! That is how I feel sometimes. How did she know?"
Addiction is an intense read. You won't want to put it down. It is an intense thriller mixed with an addictive love story. Addictive in you won't be able to stop and also that the characters seem addicted to each other. A love triangle, or is it?
Open it to meet Mila, Adam, Alex and so many other intense characters. Please write quickly Ms. Pride, I need to read the next book!!

Is Mila’s expectation of Adam too high? Should she thoughtlessly and entirely submit to her desires for him? She’s been living with his obscure intimidation and the awful secrecies of his domain? Adam hides mysteries. Even so, Mila is ready to risk it all for their love, all that is except for the truthful facts. This story has resilient, shrewd characters and their voices are realistic. Mila is addicted to Adam, who is an attractive, somber, mysterious man. There is something above his demeanor that attracts her―chemistry between them. The dilemma that Mila struggles with is what Adam is hiding. This story resonates infatuation, desire and addiction. Once I began this book, I was so intrigued that I didn’t want to put it down. It is quite addicting. Great story!

Addiction is a beautiful, sad, mystifying and unique story. The story centers around Mila and begins when Mila attends an older friends funeral. Through the rain she see a man, but not just any man. Adam is different and special. i can't say how different because I don't want to ruin the story for others. Just know this amazing story has something for all, Romance, Mystery, adventure and it brings it all together in one epic read. The author does a wonderful job and I believe is going to be a writer to watch. This novel takes the reader into a new realm and holds them there until the mysterious and eye opening end. Great job, great emotion and great book!

Well... I'm not thrilled about this book. So many pages and nothing happens... I kept skipping ahead to see if there's something more.
I will, however, dig into part two and hope for more action.

Poglobljena, prepojena s čustvi in dejanji polnimi sle.
