A dragon, a dragon, I thought I saw a dragon…well, in this collection of thirteen stories, there are a number of dragons. If you are a fan of dragon romance stories, you will enjoy this set. There are a variety of locations, time periods, and adventures. Through them all, we find the theme that a dragon must find his (or her) mate. All of the books were good, each unique. I am reviewing four.
My favorite book in this set is Victoria Zak’s Scorched Hearts. Bex, our heroine is a dragon shifter who was raised a human. As a result she is terrified of her dragon. In fact, she works in an institute that studies paranormal beings. Her project has been to try to develop a way to permanently subdue her dragon. Thane lives in Ember Brooke, a dragon community. When Bex happens to stop in town, Thane gets an instant explanation for the weird way he has been feeling. She is the mate he thought he’s never find. He and Bex meet and get together, but she is not convinced she can handle their shared destiny. The biggest obstacles are her uncertainty and fear of her dragon. She also wants to continue working in paranormal research. Convincing her is going to be a big enough task, but throw in an evil professor and a couple of twists and turns and it seems impossible. Bex and Thane are likeable characters, the secondary characters are strong and supportive, and the villain is a skunk. The plot is straight and simple with a few bends in the road. This is a good read. 5 stars.
Soul Fire by Kelly Abell was a heart-tugger. Gabriel is trying to find a way to break the curse put on his wife by the Bride of Satan, Medea. She has tied her to the Soul Fire Stone and the Dragon spirit within it. There is some powerful help on the good-guy side in the form of the Archangel Michael, but Medea has a secret weapon. Is it possible for Grace and Gabriel to outwit her? Oh, yeah, I personally would not have minded if Grace had singed Gabriel’s stubborn behind just once, just a little bit.
In Sadie’s Shadow by Julia Mills Sadie has run from her destiny for over a century. She was just hunting for her dinner. She didn’t mean to shoot him, but she did and took care of his wounds, hers and those he already had. He is her Shadow. They are mates. Now he has to find her. This one has mystery, adventure, and some great characters. I liked the all girl clan. These girls could give Wonder Woman a run for her money.
In Fire and Ice by Kate Richardson Claire Nilson’s aunt sent her to New Orleans. She is supposed to have fun. Dragon shifter Ling Lee needs to claim his mate soon. These two have to hook up. There are different kinds of shifters in this story, not just dragons. This one is fun. The plot was interesting and has a few surprising twists. The characters make you say O…K.
In Desired Revenge by Solease Barner we get a dose of dragon politics and a helping (or two) of court intrigue. Prince Jumon, the hero, and Carmen, the heroine, both want to take the throne from the current king, but for different reasons. To stop his own murder Jumon kills his father and becomes the king. Carmen wants to take back the throne for her family, and break the contract binding her to marry the king. Just before her wedding date, Carmen learns that it will be Jumon she will marry. How will this change affect Carmen’s plan? Jumon wants to convince her that he is not like his father. She wants revenge for the wrong (as she sees it) done to her family. It will take a lot for the two of them to learn to trust each other and work together for the sake of the kingdom. Can they do it? Desired Revenge is the beginning of a new series that promises lots of conflict, mystery, and of course hot dragon love stories. No cliffhanger here, but hints of what might be ahead. I look forward to the next story.
