Rae and Lindsay are best friends and both have their share of troubles. Rae has a broken marriage behind her, and has lost hope of ever finding happiness again. Meanwhile Lindsay is drowning in a sea of debt and as the relationship with her girlfriend is slowly fading, it seems like her life is on a downward spiral.
When Rae meets a charismatic stranger; Callum, it seems her life is about to get better. Desperate to have a child with her new beau, Rae asks Lindsay to be a surrogate for a generous fee. It seems the perfect solution: Two friends getting exactly what they want. Rae gets the child she desperately needs and Lindsay clears her debts to start over.
But this seemingly faultless arrangement is about to spectacularly unravel, as Callum plots a dark and twisted plan of his own ...
While Jade Winters has been putting words together since she was a child, it wasn’t until 2010 that she became a serious writer. Today, as a full-time author, she has published four novels in the lesbian fiction genre as well as several short stories. Jade was born and educated in London where she studied journalism for three years at a London University. She is the youngest of 6 children born to a Nigerian father and English mother and blames her love of spicy food on her African heritage. Jade now makes her home in Dorset in the South of England with her partner and furry companions Zorro, Buttons and Zeus.
If you know Jade’s work, this story is not what you’d expect and therefore will surprise you. If you like surprises, like I do, you should give it a go. What does not differ from her other books: This story is also well plotted and the characters also have to deal with big emotions and tough decisions.
“As the liquid burnt its way down her gullet, Lindsay abandoned all feelings, and her empty soul became as buoyant towards life as her body became in the water—devoid of gravity, devoid of stability and absolutely devoid of hope.” + • + • + • +
When love becomes a thing that becomes necessary, maneuvered & fatalistic, its desperation twisted into obsession—& dark, bad s*$% usually gonna come with it.
This story TOTALLY mindf*%ked me & I can't get it out of my mind or just let the whole story go. 💯, NEED (like full on begging, pleading, on my knees, crying like James Brown & Keith Sweat type of groveling!!) a sequel to know what became of these characters lives!!! Cone on… hook a sista up Jade!!
I have liked everything I’ve read by Jade until now... Don’t get me wrong. It was okay but not what I’m use to from this author. I met so many characters but didn’t get to learn about all of them. I just don’t know about this one. I’m still a fan though.
I am sure the situation in this book does happen- what a couple of sad situations. I really like happy endings, with that said- would not recommend this book- i kept waiting for someone, anyone to come to their senses....too late.
😢TRAGIC 😢 My what a sad tale. I'm truly at a loss for any positive comment. Oh except perhaps the title truly expressed the entire book. And you couldn't even endow Lindsay with a small amount of understanding. Even when her partner did just that for her. Like I said TRAGIC!!!
I've read many books with disappointing endings, but this tops them all. Ms. Winters has been on my must read list, but no more. If I wasn't so disappointed, I would be angry.
I'd have given this book a five star rating if the story was completed, but I absolutely hate reading a book that simply stops dead in its tracks.
This was a really creepy book, but a very good story. The fact that you can understand how someone could be tricked and manipulated makes it even creepier.
