She hopes that a move to Nocturne Falls will help her find out why – and maybe get some of it back. But when a sexy werewolf crashes into her life – literally – she realizes that the quiet life she had planned just flew out the window. And she learns that there’s more than one kind of magic.
Harrison Grey has always been clumsy, and has been the star of many jokes since he tripped over his first branch. Now, as the owner of a shop selling interesting keepsakes to the tourists, he can at least go about his day without embarrassing himself. Until he tumbles at the feet of a beautiful new resident.
Her humor, and her acceptance, restore his belief in himself. When he learns of her recent loss, he helps her find the person she can be, with or without magic.
Cate Dean has been writing since she could hold a pen in her hand and put more than two words together on paper.
She grew up losing herself in fantasy worlds, and now creates her own worlds, infusing them with adventure and magic.
When she's not writing, she travels to places that inspire her, having her own adventures, and reads pretty much anything she can get her hands on.
There ~ I got the official biography out of the way. I love to write, and yes, I have been doing it most of my life. I've made up stories in my head for as long as I can remember, and I’m thrilled to be able to bring those stories to life, and share them with you.

Not terrible but not terribly good either. A bit staccato and a very basic romance. The characters are likable although somewhat stereotyped, but no complexity and nothing that leaves you guessing.
A cute, quick addition to the Nocturne Falls Universe with a lighting quick romance between a witch and a were-shifter that comes along with more than a few strings attached.
Kristen Painter has extended the Nocturne Falls Universe and got a bunch of authors to write novellas. I think they are a must read for fans of the Universe. And also a great way to discover new author- or at least to me they were all new authors.
A cute novella- BUT: Let's just get to my biggest problem: the romance. It's insta-everything. I mean I know this is short and all, but does it all have to be this insta? Couldn't it be a wee bit more slow. I get the insta-lust. I am cool with that. But the one and only vibes... after a few days? Not my thing. However besides that I enjoyed this. It fits right into Painters world. So defo a must read for fans.
I have to say that after Cats and Wolves and Magic's Song, this book was extra disappointing for several reasons. The writing was not up to standard and it was not as smooth and flowing like other books. It did not fit into Nocturne Falls in any way. The story was inconsistent with what we already know and the essence of the place was wrong, dark and negative. Sheriff Merrow was portrayed and incapable of keeping peace. There was a horrible villain and his three buddies terrorising women in Nocturne Falls and his father was so powerful that he got away with everything he did??? I don't think so. First of all, no one is more powerful than Ellingham family, they practically own the place, and the whole idea is that they created a safe heaven for all supernaturals and Sheriff Hank Merrow upholds the peace with iron fist. They are not human and they do not adhere to human laws. If there was a person that powerful in Nocturne Falls, Kristen Painter would have already mentioned them. And if there was a villain who preys on women, Merrow would have dealt with him after the first time, in whatever manner he saw fit, and no powerful father would be able to interfere or threaten. Moving on to other issues, physical intimacy, for example. Couples in Nocturne falls never go beyond a toe-curling kiss or naughty thoughts in relation to a particular hottie, and that is why I like to suggest them to my friends teenage kids. Don't get me wrong, I very much enjoy occasional erotica, but Nocturne Falls is not the place for it. So I tried to look at the book as a standalone, outside of the perimeters of Nocturne Falls Universe. That made it a bit better. The writing is still not amazing but the story became better. The two characters Harrison and Lidia are both broken in a way. He is a shifter who was unfairly injured, had no support, other shifters avoid him, he is clumsy and has no luck with women. Lidia is a witch who escaped to nocturne Falls from an abusive relationship and to find answers as to why is she loosing her powers. They meet and instantly feel connected and as the story progresses, they become more confident and stronger and better because of each other. Unfortunately, there are still some inconsistencies and the story feels a bit forced. The Nocturne Falls reading order is: The Vampire's Mail Order Bride (Nocturne Falls #1), The Werewolf Meets His Match (Nocturne Falls #2), The Gargoyle Gets His Girl (Nocturne Falls, #3), The Professor Woos The Witch (Nocturne Falls, #4), and The Witch’s Halloween Hero (Nocturne Falls #4.5) in Spell of the Ball Anthology, The Werewolf's Christmas Wish (Nocturne Falls #4.6) in Hex the Halls Anthology, The Vampire’s Fake Fiancée (Nocturne Falls #5), A Vampire's Valentine Surprise (Nocturne Falls #5.5), Miss Frost Solves A Cold Case : A Nocturne Falls Mystery (Jayne Frost #1), The Shifter Romances The Writer (Nocturne Falls #6), Miss Frost Ices The Imp : A Nocturne Falls Mystery (Jayne Frost #2), The Vampire’s True Love Trials (Nocturne Falls #6.5) in Taming the Vampire collection, Miss Frost Saves The Sandman : A Nocturne Falls Mystery (Jayne Frost #3), The Truth About Cats And Wolves: A Nocturne Falls Universe story by Alethea Kontis, Magic's Song: A Nocturne Falls universe Story by Sela Carsen, The Witch Rescues Her Werewolf: A Nocturne Falls Universe story by Cate Dean, The Vampire Bounty Hunter's Unexpected Catch: A Nocturne Falls Universe story by Larissa Emerald, Reaping The Immortal: A Nocturne Falls Universe story by Pamela Labud and Close Encounters Of The Alien Kind: A Nocturne Falls Universe story by Fiona Roarke. The Dragon Finds Forever (Nocturne Falls #7) is coming this year as well.
I love the Nocturne Falls series by Kristen Painter and am excited by expansion of the NF world by Painter to invite author authors to write books set in the NF universe. There are some excellent additions; unfortunately this is one is not one of them. Good but not great. Although the characters elicited my sympathy, I found my reading experience tripped up by the numerous typos, the plot predictability, and the sudden stupidity of the characters to get themselves into trouble just to make the plot work. On the plus side though, I like the fleshing out of a male love interest that is not the alpha male, vulnerable, unsure, and clumsy and yet deeply loyal, protective, sexy, and loving. I love Nocturne Falls so much that it was still a pleasant enough read. I’d recommend it if you need your NF fix and are waiting on series progenitor Kristen Painter to come out with the next one.
I absolutely love Nocturne Falls! This novella is part of a Nocturne Falls Universe where certain authors write a story with Kristen Painter's beloved characters. This story is a great extension of the Nocturne stories. This story follows Lidia and witch on the run from her past and controlling ex, and Harrison a wolf shifter who can't shift. I loved this story.. I wish it was longer. I want to know more about these characters! I love how Cate incorporated the already existing characters that live in Nocturne Falls, she was able to keep them true to themselves! I believe I might have found a new author to check out and visit her world for awhile.
This is one of the books in the Nocturne Falls Universe set in Kristen Painter's Fictional setting of Nocturne Falls. Cate did a wonderful job integrating into Kristen's universe and I really enjoyed her characters. There was one character I wished she had given more background to. (Jared). I look forward to more NFU books from Cate. Hopefully she gives more background into Jared.
Due to the lack of background on Jared I give this book 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
I really enjoyed this latest in the Nocturne Falls Universe. The story centers around a witch who is losing her magic and a werewolf that can't shift. These two lost souls find a kindred spirit in each other. The story was a sweet romance, very enjoyable. I was left with an unanswered question at the end - looking forward to her next book to discover the answer! Enjoy!
A sweet romance between two broken souls trying to heal in Nocturne Falls. Together they are strong and whole. A complete story which can be difficult to manage in 100 pages. Complex issues dealt with and resolved. I look forward to more stories by this author.
Everything happens so quickly, I didn't have time to get to know the characters at all. Poor Harrison seemed like a great guy though. I liked that he was a bit clumsy and insecure. Too bad aboout Jared and his friends. I was hoping Lidia would meet all of the great witches in Nocturne Falls.
OMG - these just keep getting better and better. The Nocturne Falls Universe series is amazing!!!
When Lidia Reston shows up at Nocturne Falls, she was getting out of a bad relationship and looking for a new start in life. Her magic was fading and she had no idea why -- but, feared it had something to do with her ex. Then she met Harrison Grey - who was clumsy and sort of landing right in front of her. And boy -- did they connect!!! Not gonna say any more - but, you really need to take the time to read these spinoffs from the Nocturne Falls series.
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
Fast read, could not put it down. A real page turner in my favorite world setting Nocturne Falls. Cate Dean does a great job of adding her story to the Nocturne Falls Universe where it is Halloween 24/7 365 days a year. Enjoy! This book has been provided by the author with no expectations and that in no way influences my review.
As will all my reviews there are no spoilers and no story recap. This short story is written in third person and has no explicit language or sexual scenes. While this is a part of the Nocturn Falls Universe created by Kristen Painter it can be read as a standalone without having read any other book in the series and it can be read in no particular order if you haven’t (for some strange reason) already gobbled up all the other stories/books of Nocturn Falls.
I have read a couple other stories by Mrs. Dean. She is a talented writer. Her flow was very similar to Mrs. Painters. While the story was fast, I connected to the main people right away and wanted to read every word. I wish it continued once it was over. I hope that Mrs. Dean continues to write with Mrs. Painter in this universe. She is a very welcome addition.
Remember to get all the other NF books, if you haven’t already. You won’t be disappointed.
It was very generous of Kristen Painter to have opened up the Nocturne Falls Universe to other writers, but this installment may well be an argument against the decision. A tale about a Witch and a Werewolf shifter, both in need of healing and repair, should have been compelling and more than a little magical. In this story, the instant mutual affection between the principals is unearned. And while there is the hope for both of them that their gifts might one day be restored, this tale is really about a dearth of magic and a loss of power.
Sheriff Merrow is present here, but not written true to character as other reviewers have noted. He's well-meaning but ineffectual. Willow the Jeweler Fae delivers "too little too late" (her words)... if you're going to have lynchpin/canon characters in your expansion-pack work, they should be recognizable.
I'd have loved to see this story told by Painter herself.
Lidia is a witch who is loosing her magic. In the hopes of regaining it she's packed her life up and moved to Nocturne Falls. It helps she's also trying to get away from her ex. Grey is a werewolf who can't shift. Thanks to an intentional act in his youth he's forever stuck as a human in a pack of werewolves. A dream brings them together but can Grey allow himself the joy of love?
One of those instant attractions that has the characters hooked on each other from the get go. This story is an enjoyable tale of two people finding a second chance at life, love and romance. A way for them both to grow and change things within their current lives. A beautiful addition to the Nocturne Falls Universe. Loved it.
I read two books in the Nocturne Falls Universe and got so excited about how much I loved them that I purchased three others. What a unexpected disappointment. This book was such rubbish! The story is so unbelievable, I had to return it.
***Possible Spoiler*** If someone gets out of an abusive relationship they are not going to hold hands and kiss someone they just met. Within days of meeting each other they are ready to get married? I detested both characters and the "Harry" was a whiny sissy that I wanted to punch and tell him to shut up. Seriously this book was so ridiculous it make me angry.
Overall, I give this book 3.5 stars and recommend it to readers who love the Nocturne Falls series. If you are a fan of Cate Dean too, I highly recommend this book, even if you’ve never read Kristen’s Nocturne Falls series yet. Hey, just maybe you’ll start reading the Nocturne Falls series after you read this book and fall in love with the town that celebrates Halloween all year around. My youngest daughter would definitely move there since she’s obsessed with Halloween.
Not impressed this was included part of the series
In my Option it’s drastically different. Characaters and story line aside the writing method is different and no way near similar to Kristen painter. It’s really Disappointing. If feels like the other author took completely over.
So corny any cheesy And very fantasy like and unreal. Too perfect. And somehow the main characters fell deeply In love without any substance. Just a looked at each other and instantly in love ? Love at first sight is a fairy tale.
I loved this book, the contrasts between a witch and a werewolf who is too injured from an old wound that will not heal but also his own clumsiness was amazing. The protectiveness and the strength that they gave each other as well as the old dangers, the badass side of Bridget Merrow and the chaos of Nocturne Falls made it an amazing addition to the series. I would love to see more of the doctor in the future but was amazed to see an abusive dominance shown so well. It had my stomach turning in knots at times. I loved this book!
2 1/2 So if you really like Nocturne Falls, you may like this. I thought it was OK, a bit good as a novella. The characters were simplistic with insta love and flat standard bad guys. It is just childish and too 2 dimensional flat bully character. It gets in the way of a romance that is trying to take off. Not enough time to develop.
This was very low 3 star, almost want to round down.
I really like this author's work. She develops her plots and charachters to merge with the main line of Nocturne Falls. There is a sweet hope behind the story even though the lead couple have gone through and still go through very ugly difficult stuff. I really enjoyed how Harry and Lidia help each other to grow stronger and more confident. They don't solve each other's problems but they love each other as is and believe in each other as is. Great stuff!
Tal vez.
I have read a few of the series and was slightly disappointed in this one. The hero and heroine were so deeply flawed and vulnerable, it was hard to believe their story. I also was disappointed that the story was so short. It seemed like the whole story transpired in a couple days. It felt like the author was in a hurry to complete this book and made it a short story.
Extremely quick paranormal romance. Two people with problems from past enemies meet, and the next thing you know, they're engaged to be married. Both enemies are cartoonishly simple, but at least one shows regret, and was tricked and used by someone else for their own purposes. The ending was a bit weird for me, the way a sorcerer fixed the witch. Typos: Commas are used for periods to end sentences, and as semicolons too. "Breakup" (noun) is written as two words.
This was a cute NF universe novella, but probably won't re-read. I think I would've liked it if it was longer. The whole thing just felt rushed, and being a novella isn't an excuse because a lot of the other NF books I've read weren't very long and I loved a lot of them lol The burn was so fast that there wasn't even time to build up chemistry, in my opinion. The whole thing just felt off to my for the NF world.
