Maddy is a hot single momma with attitude. She’s only interested in a fake relationship, but I want her forever. I met Maddy when I pulled her out of a burning building. One minute I’m doing my job, the next there’s a naked woman in my arms. Look, I’m a professional. I don’t cross lines, but she’s giving me every reason to. She’s gorgeous and single. Jackpot. Except she wants nothing to do with me. All she wants is a fake boyfriend for a few weeks. Someone who’ll go on dates with her, dote on her toddler, and treat her like the hottie she is. She’s crazy if she thinks I’m pretending. I spend more time fantasizing about her curvy body than doing my damn job. I’m not going anywhere without her. She's mine-the only flame I will never extinguish.
I absolutely loved how Maddy & Jesse first met. And how his cat kind of played matchmaker, lol. This book was funnier than I expected it to be and had a fair amount of steam in it but, my favorite in the book was Christopher, Maddys son, he was simply adorable.
Maddy and Jesse both agree to a mutual understanding that they will be a fake couple ea h having there reasons. They both are dealing with there fair of issues and can't see past them. Jesse quickly realizes how special Maddy is and he doesn't want a fake relationship, he wants her for real.
I devoured this book in about 90 minutes! It was a quick hot read for me. Maddy is a single mom who was just enjoying a toddler free shower when a fireman is dragging her out of her shower and out side. Practically naked. They then decide to pretend they are dating to get her parents to help her with vet school. What happens when the pretending portion is over. HOT! A must read!
So, there were some things I liked about this one, and some stuff that just irked the crap out of me. I’ll start with the positives:
1. I liked that the hero wasn’t terrified of Maddy’s child. He also wasn’t a commitment-phobe, which was awesome.
2. The kid was cute, and he was a realistic depiction of a toddler, not the precocious kid-that-says-things-no-kid-that-age-would-ever-say-in-real-life that you find in some novels. Nothing irritates me more than an author who writes a 3-year-old character and has that character giving sage relationship advice to the hero or heroine. (And before you ask: yes, I’ve seen this. I won’t call anyone out, but it happens. Trust me.) Kids should never be used as convenient plot devices, and this one wasn’t, so I appreciated it.
3. Mechanically speaking, this was a well-written novel.
And now, the stuff that made me want to DNF at a few points:
1. The building is on fire (albeit a small fire that wasn’t terribly dangerous). Jesse is doing his job by getting Maddy out of the building. It’s not his fault that her music was on and she was in the shower (and her smoke detectors weren’t working). It wasn’t his fault that he saw her naked. It wasn’t his fault that she was being a belligerent bitch by refusing to leave the burning building and yelling at him that he should leave. So, yeah, he knocked her door down and carried her out of there caveman style. I saw no other way for him to do his job. Is Maddy at all grateful at any point that he carried her out of a burning building? Nope. She continued bitching at him and demanded that he fix her door. How about you fix your smoke detectors, Maddy?
2. I don’t even like cats (I’m 100% a dog person) and I didn’t care for the way Jesse treated his late sister’s cat, Thor. If I left my beloved pets to a family member who treated them like crap, I’d haunt his ass. Nothing short of Dean Winchester would be able to send my angry spirit to the other side.
3. Maddy suffered (almost terminally) from what I call Bella Swan syndrome. She might as well have tattooed, “Oh, I’m so ugly and plain and nerdy that no hot guy would ever want me” on her chest. But of course, every guy who sees her thinks she’s the most beautiful creature in the world.
4. The number of times Maddy told Jesse that he must be “joking” and faking sexual interest in her was staggering (and annoying). Maddy, sweetheart, here’s a little tip for you: men can’t fake erections.
5. The first two sex scenes were fairly close together in the book, and read like they were copied and pasted. The same spanking scene, the same position, the same moans and groans. They were well-written sex scenes, but super repetitive.
6. Maddy’s parents were soooooo one-dimensional. No nuance to them at all. They were stereotypical rich, white people with values straight out of the 1950s. And if I was Maddy, I’d die before I let my kid be exposed to either of them.
7. Now, my husband loves me. I have no doubt about this. But he’d never put on tights for me and attend a lame comic book cos play party. Nope. Never. I’m calling bullshit on that one.
8. The whole “bad guy” suspense thing at the end felt like a total throw-away. Almost like it was unplanned and the author hit a certain word count and said, “well, I need to do something to wrap this thing up. Maybe I’ll throw in a villain and a little danger.” It all felt pointless.
All in all, it’s not the worst I’ve ever read, but it’s far from the best.
This was such a good book I thought the way Maddy and Jesse was a funny and every woman's fantasy come true . I love that the character was a single mom who's beautiful inside and out, she tries do all that she can while raising her son who is adorable by the way and the H was a fireman I love love love firemen he's funny , cocky , possessive , dirty talker and has a hate hate relationship with his sisters cat . the sexy times were off the charts HOT the H and h have a electric chemistry that they cant deny . The story was a nice steady page it wasn't rushed or dragged on witch I liked it wrapped up nicely I wasn't left wondering why did it end that way i'm not a huge fan of the h parents I thought when she stood up for not only her but for Jesse and I was cheering her on . This would be my first read from this author I would love to read more from Katherine Lace. copy provided for honest review **************************************** hero = 10 heroine = 10 secondary characters = 9 chemistry = 10 steam = 10 character development = 10 pacing = 10 pov= dual ending = HEA cover =HOT author = new to me
It was okay. I just thought there needed more. It went by quick, I didn't really get the time frame of the book. I couldn't tell if a lot of time was passed between scenes or what. So for me, it seemed pretty quick for them to be moving in together especially because she had a kid to think about. I mean it all worked out fine so no biggie but still. What annoyed me was the main characters insecurity about how she looked. Even after he told her and showed her multiple times that he wanted her for real, she still didn't believe him even though she was sooooooo hot. Blah. Too annoying for me. And the whole cat thing, while I love cats and always love reading about them, it was just strange in this book. She was supposed to help him but didn't do anything really except tell him to buy scratching posts and toys. Oh well. It was an okay read.
I received this book in advance for an honest review. Nice romantic comedy with some steamy scenes and a grumpy misunderstood cat. Jesse is a firefighter that pulls single mom Maddy out of her shower when he responds to a call in her building. Fate brings them together again when Thor, Jesse's sister's cat that he now has, is taken to the vet because he doesn't get along with Jesse. Maddy works st the vet and does pet psych on the side. Laughter, surprises, a wee bit of danger and hot romance.
I loved this book and highly recommend it! Maddy and Jesse are a great romance. From their unorthodox meeting, to her temper and his psychotic cat - you are drawn in and rooting for them to get together. Jesse is a real hero and proves that he is also a good guy over and over. Maddy doesn't believe that he could really like her especially since she has a child and parents that continually belittle her and her choices. Throw in a little mystery and mayhem and you have a fast paced humorous read that you won't want to put down. I received this ARC for an honest review.
Good book. The characters were relatable. Maddie is a young single mom trying to live life as best as she can for herself & her son. She's relaxing at home one night by herself, when a loud commotion startles her. In walks in HOT firefighter Jesse. She needs help from her parents to get into vet school. So she asks Jesse to be her fake boyfriend so her parents can consign for her. What starts off as a fake relationship turns into more...
This book makes me thankful for Kindle Unlimited... I had never heard of this author or book but it came up as a suggested read for me and I said why not... I am so glad that I did. Who doesn't love a sexy firefighter... and Maddy was the perfect heroine even with her insecurities and second guessing she was a strong single mother despite so many things not in her favor... it was a great fun and flirty read!
Nice fun read about two people needing a pretend significant other. Throw in a comic book junkie/vet and a hot fireman, did I say hot! Fun insues as they meet with her nude and dripping wet and continues to meeting of the parents. Dreaded parents! He says she is beautiful, she doesnt believe it and he tries to convince her. Had I said Hot fireman yet? Ya, hot! New author that I will be happy to read again. Will be a fun reread.
Hot Damn from Katherine Lace is a fantastic sexy and steamy romance!!! This story is very sweet and the chemistry between the principal characters is off the charts. Loved reading about Jesse, a sexy as hot fireman and Maddy, a gorgeous and single mom. This plot is a fast pace and very well written standalone romance novel. I enjoyed and recommended!!
Loved this story. But at the end I did have many questions. Does he get reunited with his parents and introduce his new family, does her parents stop being so controling and love her for who she is? Do they eventually get married? Do they have kids of their own? Does try he cat end up liking Jesse?
This was a great, fast read. Maddy and Jesse had a great sizzle going on. Maddy is self-conscious and feels like Jesse the hottie (hottie. fireman. hehe) is just messing with her when he hits on her. I totally relate to Maddy and how she deals with life. She has issues with her parents, is struggling with life but seems to be coming out on top for now. I loved Maddy. I need a Jesse.
A romantic comedy. Just loved it. I specially fell in love with Christopher. What a cutie! This book was filled with romance, comedy, a possessed cat, a healthy obsession with Marvel superheroes, and steamy scenes. A must read
Loved it! I love the storyline and the main characters. Jesse and Maddy have amazing chemistry. A must read. I received a advance reader copy of this book.
I have never read anything from this author before. Both main characters irritated me with their attitudes. I started reading it two years ago and still have not finished it.
Good book. Enjoyed the story as a whole and Jesse. Wasn't a huge fan of Maddy at the beginning but she got better. And Christopher's character was really cute. The only downside was I wish there was an epilogue and the inconsistency with Jesse physical appearance. One chapter he's dark hard and grey eyed. Then he's blonde and blue eyed. Otherwise I really liked this. Lots going on to keep your attention and a good connection.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. This was actually the first book I read from Katherine. I loved it. This was a book full of cuteness, hotness and sweetness. Maddy is a single mom trying to get by and be strong. She is a girl with an attitude to match the toughness she has been through. In walks a sexy as hell firefighter Jesse who can handle her attitude and give her some in return. They work out an agreement that helps them both but turns into something much much more. There is some suspense in this book with trying to figure out why things are happening to them. This was a very well written book with amazing character chemistry especially between Christopher the little boy and Jesse. Love the added storyline with the cat..It had me rolling with laughter. Highly recommend this book. Katherine has gained another fan
I voluntarily accepted an advanced reader copy for my honest review.
What an adorable story! Maddy and Jesse are "Hot, damn". They had steamy chemistry from the start. And of course, humor! I mean nerdy girls are awesome and...the real star of the book...a cat named Thor. We can all relate to our pets destroying stuff around the house. But I felt like this book missed some important plot lines. Like, more details on jesse's fued. it escalated very quickly? Was there something that mad it more violent? Or was there major time that past in between the first encounter to the last? And I was disappointed that it just ended, I mean I can guess what happens but I would have liked to read about it. Anyways, it was a cute story and totally recommend for anybody that is looking for a hot firefighter save a geeky single mom in more ways than one!
I volunteered to read an ARC of this book. Funny in some places, sweet and romantic in others plus some totally hot and steamy action. The characters (including the cat) had great chemistry and for the most part it was a good story. The only downfall for me was that the last chapter was super short and I felt that it needed more details and depth or at least an epilogue.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. Yet another great book from Ms Lace. Maddy and Jesse were great. Her son Christopher was adorable. This book had some pretty funny parts in it from the beginning with how the two meet. It also had a great love story. I loved how Jesse was attracted to Maddy from the start. I also loved how Maddy was her own person and didn't care whether people found her a little quirky in regards to her love of comic books. The scenes with Thor the cat were hysterical at times. This book overall was such a great read! And of course the two found their HEA!
The story had everything going for it...a single mom, cute toddler, hot fireman, crazy cat, lots of humor. But for me, it still fell flat. It just left me wanting...more. There is a hea, but it still seemed to need...something. It wasn't bad, it was just a little flat, to me. This particular copy came with a bonus book, Lady and the Champ. It was some round and round about a football player and his physical therapist. Farther on, it may have blosomed into a wonderful romance. But it had not by the sixth chapter, when I gave up and removed it from my kindle. At that point there was still a whole lot talking going on in the characters head, but not a lot of action or conversation. For me, even with the bonus book, this was not a favorite, and not one I would recommend, nor want to read again.
Maddy is in the shower when she gets a rude awakening, her door getting pounded on, but it's not her front door, it's her bathroom door, the one she's behind. How in the hell did someone get into her apartment? What do they want? To say she's not expecting who is on the other side of the door is an understatement. Jesse is the interim fire chief. He's been called to an apartment building on fire and is going door to door to clear the building when he comes to a locked door with sound on the other side, so he breaks down the door to find the person inside. What he doesn't expect is the naked woman in the shower who doesn't want to come out. He does what any firefighter does, he breaks down the bathroom door and drags her out of the shower, naked as the day she was born. What happens when Maddy asks him for a favor that he can't refuse? Find out this and more in this hot as hell read!!!
