Order of the Black Knights

US Marshal Jaeger Tripp is assigned to the Federal Witness Protection Program. The hurt and destruction he’s seen—along with protecting criminals who are only cooperating with the authorities to keep themselves out of jail—have left him with a bleak and jaded view of both life and people. His current assignment is Wren O’Riley, a computer wizard who witnessed a high-profile cartel hit.

To Jaeger, Wren is the same as any other job. He must protect him long enough to get him to testify at trial, and his personal feelings have no place in his work and must be set aside. But that’s easier said than done. On the run and fighting for their lives, Jaeger and Wren can’t help but grow closer. And Jaeger can’t help seeing beyond Wren’s nerdy exterior to a man who might be just what Jaeger needs to settle his soul and capture his heart—if they survive long enough to get that chance.

Knights don't always come with shining armour...

‘Jaeger’ is the fourth book in the multi-author series “Order of the Black Knight” published by Dreamspinner Press.

In general, I love that each book in this series is written by a different author it gives the reader a chance to discover new authors as was the case for me with ‘Gideon’ the first book in this series and now with ‘Jaeger’. I’m also very happy with the fact that while each book is based on the same underlying premise, it is also a self-contained story and can be enjoyed as a standalone story without fear of having missed relevant information in previous books.

I first read ‘Gideon’ several months ago and for the moment have by passed on reading the second and third books to jump into ‘Jaeger’. While I do intend to go back and read Matthias (book #2) and Vespar (book #3) it was good to be able to read ‘Jaeger’ and not feel like I’d missed anything.
Ok, so let’s talk about the book I just read…’Jaeger’. Jaeger Tripp is a US Marshall assigned to the Federal Witness Protection Program. He’s also getting a little burned out and thinking maybe it’s time to retire. But when his boss asks him to do one more job and guard Wren O’Riley, computer wizard and witness to a high-profile cartel hit he figures retirement can wait a while. Unfortunately, if the cartel has anything to say about it neither Jaeger nor Wren will live long enough to worry about retirement.

While Jaeger’s outlook in general tends to be on the cynical side. He’s seen more than enough of man at his worst to justify it in his mind. In many ways, this actually works for him given his career. He’s not a trusting soul by any means and it’s that lack of trust that has often kept him alive, but he is dedicated to his job which, at the moment, is to keep Wren safe for the next month until he can testify. He’s also not immune to Wren’s looks and his honest and trusting nature. While both men know they should fight their attraction to each other circumstances make it challenging as does their inexplicable desire to be with each other.

I really liked both Jaeger and Wren and found the fact that they were opposites in so many ways also made them compliments to one another giving balance to their relationship. While Wren was a bit naïve and trusting, I never felt like he was a pushover but he was smart enough to understand that when it came to keeping them safe Jaeger was the one with the knowledge and skill to do this so for me it made sense that he would listen to and follow Jaeger’s direction without question when their lives were threatened. Ultimately it was Jaeger’s inability to totally trust people that kept him and Wren alive.

While the romance often seems to take a back seat to the mystery/thriller part of this story it is an extremely important part to the overall story line. Initially Jaeger and Wren’s relationship may seem like a case of insta-love but I can honestly say that after reading the whole story and really thinking about it their story is more like a really, really slow burn, well except for when the sexy times happen…have mercy, there was nothing slow there it was hot and scorching.

I really enjoyed the mystery/thriller portion of this book it was interesting and the pacing was good. As well the author threw in a nice little surprise twist that definitely helped to hold my interest and give an extra connection to the two aspects of this story, tying the mystery and the romance even more securely together.

While ‘Jaeger’ is actually, the fourth book in “The Order of the Black Knight” series, if you aren’t a fan of characters that are really dark and seriously messed up than you may in fact want to consider starting here. Jaeger is by no means Mr. Sunshine & Light, but, compared to some of his fellow knights he’s a little easier to take. Let’s say his redeeming characteristics are more readily obvious.
‘The Order of the Black Knight’ is the ultimate in enemies to lovers/second chance/starting over stories. While each man is very different they are also connected by a common thread and it is that connection that drives their actions and this connection is also what ties the stories together but each book ultimately explains things so as I said not necessary to read them all unless like me…you just want to.

First, I just LOVE the cover for this book (and for the series)!

Second, I haven’t read any other book in this series though I might now. I don’t think you need to read these in order or at all, as each book is it’s own set of characters (as far as I can tell).

Third, there were parts of this book that really worked for me and parts that I struggled with, but overall, I think it was a pretty good “bodyguard” romance with a lovely little paranormal twist.

What worked for me: Jaeger and Wren as characters. They were both really well developed and had a strong presence throughout the book. There were a few lines Jaeger spoke here and there that really didn’t fit his character, but I sort of forgave that as he was usually under the spell of sex or love when he uttered the lines. I didn’t always understand Jaeger’s drive beyond his paranormal back story and I wish we’d have had more of his life history (this life time) to explain his current “self” a bit more. Wren, however, felt really well developed and he felt true to his character throughout.

I also really loved the paranormal aspect of this story. (spoiler) I really wanted Jaeger to have fallen for Wren before he saw Moriel and felt that he had, so I was a bit confused when Moriel acted like Jaeger had more forgiving to do…(end spoiler).

I thought the spy/FBI/doublecross/whodunit drama was interesting and well done.

What didn’t work for me: As a said before, sometimes there were lines that didn’t make sense given the character. I know this is erotic fiction, but sometimes the switch from action, to erotica, to paranormal love story felt a bit jangly and disconcerting. (ie the reference to fisting felt really out of place)

As an intro to this series, I found this fascinating and well-done and I’m looking forward to investigating others in this series now that I’ve found it!

4.25 (rounded up to 4.5 ) of 5 stars

‘Jaeger’ by Evelise Archer is the fourth installment in the ‘Order of the Black Knights’ series. Moriel is back and this time we meet his fourth black knight, Jaeger of Germania.

Keeping with the theme of cursed heroes here we have Jaeger whose hate for the rich and privileged leads him to sign a pact with the wizard, Moriel. He becomes a skilled assassin who throughout his various lives shapes history but is cursed to always be alone. He is doomed to kill his ‘soulmate’ in every life just to be born again to repeat the same fate over and over.

In his present life, Jaeger Tripp is an US Marshal and he gets tasked to protect the star witness against a major drug cartel, Wren O’ Riley. Wren is determined to bring his family down but he needs to remain alive for one whole month before the trial.

Jaeger hates Wren coz of all that his family represents and he is also not buying the fact that Wren is an innocent party in his family’s illegal dealings. But Wren burrows under his skin with each passing day and Jaeger can’t deny the connection that develops between them.

”Jaeger’s desire to have Wren in his bed seemed to override any other need he’d ever experienced. He was drawn to Wren O’Riley on a level other than physical.”

Wren falls for his dangerous and sexy protector even though he knows that Jaeger will be lost to him after the trial just like his old life.

”Wren felt as though a connecting thread wove their two souls together and bound them by some unexplainable force. As though a seed had been planted ages before, yet he knew he had never crossed paths with the marshal.”

”Jaeger was a siren call that Wren couldn’t resist.”

Jaeger and Wren are on the run as cartel thugs try to kill them. I liked the feel of the danger as the MCs try to remain one step ahead of their enemies. Jaeger had the whole badass, ‘get things done’ attitude down and he was totally sexy doing his stuff. There is a major twist in the plot when the real culprit is exposed and the couple had to fight with all they got to survive. The bad guys do get their dues along the way so it was quite a satisfactory ending.

The couple had a sizzling chemistry and the sparks ignite continuously. The danger mixed with the passion was a heady combination. Their centuries old bond is an unexplainable force which brings them crashing together.

”Wren wanted to melt into the marshal’s arms and run for his life at the same time. Both ideas scared the living shit out of him and excited him. Jaeger was an enigma, an onion with many layers. Wren could take a lifetime to peel back each one and find the true Jaeger Tripp. And Wren wanted those years. He couldn’t explain it, but the attraction was not only about lust, but survival and safety. Even with Jaeger’s brash attitude and sometimes-condescending tone of voice, Wren still wanted to be in his arms, to place his lips on every part of his body and feel the warmth of his embrace. Of course he wanted to be fucked by him too, in the most carnal way.”

The paranormal part of the story makes an appearance almost at the end of the book. Jaeger is given a second chance by Moriel to break his curse by claiming his love. The time jump of the whole thing is a little jarring but it is caused by magic so that kind of justifies it.

I just found one thing in the story as very strange. [toggle title="Spoiler"]I did not get why Javi Chino was so hellbent on killing Wren. Wren was about to put his own uncle behind bars and thus eliminating Javi’s competition so he should have been totally behind Wren being the witness.[/toggle] I guess the author tried to unveil the betrayal in the most dramatic way but it came out completely contradictory to the ongoing plot. If the reveal was done after the trial then it would have been very effective.

Overall, I loved the writing, the characters as well as the thrill caused by the looming danger on the MCs. It was action packed with enough passion to make it an exciting read which will hook your interest till the very end. Great addition to this series. I will be waiting for the next badass Knight and his journey towards redemption.

This is my first Black Knight book. As you can see it's book 4 in the "series" but it's a different set of MCs and therefore can be read as a SA. I wasn't confused in the least while jumping in at the end here.

I gotta say, I really like the concept of this book. I said to my co-blogger "It reminds me of that religion where they have to keep coming back until they get it right". Also, does the wizard really have a black heart or is he just a genius?

Jaeger is kind of a dick in the beginning. He loathes those that break the law and are greedy. Like his charge,Wren (or so he thinks). He must protect him until Wren can testify against his uncle who is one of the major crime Lord's in Mexico. Little does Jaeger know, that Wren is his one true soulmate and key to getting out of his curse.

Wren is super sweet. You can't but feel bad for the guy and the situation he witnessed and gone through. Betrayed by the one he thought he loved, he has to put all his faith in Jaeger to get him to his court date.

The heat build up between the 2 is barely palpable. Jaeger is hanging on by a thin thread. When it snaps, it snaps. These two are scorching together. Which also changes Jaeger's entire attitude. He loses some of that "dickness" attitude he had in the beginning.

What kind of book would it be if there weren't snags in their plans though? Only, it's not what you think it is.

*insert plot twist*

When Jaeger comes to, a long time has passed. He finds himself alone in a strange place. Luckily he's a born hunter and must go in search for what he wants most.

The ending is sweet, maybe in the side of cheesy, but a lovely HEA none-the-less. Which is all right, seeing that all his other lives weren't so great ending. *rinse, repeat*

I give this book a 3.75*

A Joyfully Jay review.

2.25 stars

I wanted to like Jaeger. On the surface, it’s every thing I enjoy — two men on the run, the threat of constant danger, a sinister enemy cabal, all leading to hot and sexy romance. But right from the start, Jaeger stumbled. This is a part of a larger series of books written by different authors, though Jaeger is very readable as a standalone. The paranormal aspect of this book: i.e., the curse Jaeger carries, is barely mentioned and has almost no purpose. Had it been removed from the text completely, I would barely notice and it adds nothing of value. Perhaps other books in this series use this aspect in more depth, but in this novel, it seems pointless.

The plot is fairly straight forward and the pacing here is quite strong. Unfortunately, the author’s voice feels stiff and awkward. There is no flow or rhythm to the work and more than once I found it absolutely jarring to read. Jaeger and Wren are both stock characters and never really develop into unique or interesting creations. It was hard to connect with either of them and their romance is nothing more than a series of lust driven sex scenes. There was no emotional bond between either of them and their relationship read as something we’re meant to believe, but are given no reason to do so. The “reveal,” for lack of a better word, of Jaeger’s true enemy is predictable and felt as heavy handed and forced as the rest of the book.

Jaeger is fairly fast paced and has a plot that is direct and to the point. But it lacks depth and the main characters never leap off the page. If you’re already a fan of the Order of the Black Knights series, then Jaeger will no doubt be another enjoyable read. For everyone else, I’d have to recommend giving this one a pass.

I tried. I really did. Vespar (book #3) was great, and just what I expected from this series. Sexy and dangerous but with a side of desperate lust/love. Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience with Jaeger. I haven't read this author before, so we could just be a poor match. But I think my status updates sufficiently sum up my frustration with this book.

3% - I know Jaeger is hot and all, but Wren thinks about sex a LOT for someone on Day 1 of the run for their life.

4% - I feel like Vespar fit the bill of a Black Knight as an assassin... but with their urge to kill, how could Jaeger possibly be an FBI agent? Military maybe, but FBI don't go around killing all that many people.

5% - I can't help but keep comparing to Vespar... but that dude was a cold assassin, and I liked him. Jaeger is an FBI agent... and he's just kind of a huge dick.

6% - Do I pronounce it Ja-ger (like Mick Jagger), or Yay-ger (like the alcohol)? This is driving me CRAZY!

25% - What WHAT WHAAAAAAAT?!?!? They went from not talking, not touching, not even looking at each together.... to making out?! There was NO lead in whatsoever. I actually re-read it three times trying to figure out what I missed. WTF.

26% - Wait WHAT?! And now we're having a reasonable convo about it?! These guys have said three words to each other, ever, and Jaeger has always been extremely hostile. WTF. Zero chemistry.

29% - Marcolm was a good character in book 3... but I have zero sense of Wren as a person.

32% - What the ever loving FUCK! We just went from "I need to finish this job and get the fuck away from Wren." to "I have to taste him [mouth plunder]"with NO TRANSITION!

35% Kissing of ones palm was just described as "making love to his hand".... eww.

So in looking back, my issues with this book are:
1) Jaeger is a dick, and not in the good way
2) Wren is one-dimensional
3) No chemistry
4) No transition from hate to fucking to more
5) Just didn't believe any of it

Maybe this will work for you, I dunno. I'll definitely continue with this series since I love the premise and each book is a different author, so I don't think my dislike of this book says anything negative about the series. But it's probably a not-for-me author.

BLURB:

And Jaeger can’t help seeing beyond Wren’s nerdy exterior to a man who might be just what Jaeger needs to settle his soul and capture his heart—if they survive long enough to get that chance

This is an intense and sexy read. The chemistry between Jaeger and Wren is so intense and realistic. Jaeger has issues because of who Wren is related to and also, he’s there to keep him alive. Wren is very attracted to Jaeger’s type but is holding back why he’s really testifying. I was rooting for these two from the get-go. Their attraction to each other is so exciting.

Then there’s Sac Chase, Jaeger’s boss. His character is just mind blowing. He’s such a money grubbing pig that I wanted to slaughter him myself.

Then with the Chino/Rincon family, they are brutal and have no love for anyone. It doesn’t matter that Wren is their family. They want him dead. This is heart breaking but a reality with families in this line of work. I love how they aren’t very smart especially for some like Jaeger.

Speaking of Jaeger, his leather band on his knife scar is something that was kind of confusing. It keeps burning him and giving him the need to kill. Definitely read the prologue so you get an idea of what’s going on. It all makes sense now. I don’t want to give spoilers, so be prepared…

I was pulled right into this story and had trouble putting it down. This is the fourth installment of Order of the Black Knights, and I’m definitely going to read the first 3.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

This story started out by hitting the ground running at full-force. There was really very little time to question what happened before Jaeger and Wren met (in this book/lifetime), how the prologue came into play, whether Wren was a good person, bad person, or somewhere in-between, or whether the reader was going to discover a decent cell in Jaeger’s body. Cold, sterile, and hostile (Jaeger), versus human, warm, and honorable (Wren).

I’ll admit it took me a bit to connect the dots between the initial flashbacks in the prologue – the historical replay of the origins of the Black Knights, the swift segue into killing the drug lord’s son who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and subsequent death through being double-crossed, the transition into current day (especially with the repeat of such a unique name – Wren), and the reappearance of the wizard. The link finally made complete sense in the final scenes pre-trial when the wizard made his next to final appearance to Jaeger. Could some type of word/scene play been built or expanded upon in the beginning to equip me, the reader, with a clearer understanding/expectation? Perhaps. In the end, it all circled back around with the clarity I needed, and the disruption/distraction in the beginning (confusion for me) didn’t detract me from forging on to find out what happened next.

What did strike me most about this book, though, was the creatively descriptive writing style. The chemistry and bond that simply existed from the beginning between Jaeger and Wren – and that they intuitively continued grooming and were unable to escape – wrung out the emotions. The sex scenes were erotic, tantalizingly drawn out, and cut to the core of one’s senses. Even though Jaeger attempted to convey nonchalance and convince himself that he’d simply move on once he delivered his charge to court to testify, the reader knows innately that it won’t be possible.

The surprising spin with Wren’s former lover Javi was brilliantly played, and the multi-layered and contrived plot was detailed and jaggedly cold. Javier had no soul.

The reunion between Jaeger and Wren after he testified in exchange for a new identity seemed to be a bit rushed, and perhaps would have benefitted from playing out and transpiring at the more evenly paced rate of the earlier ones, when these two were getting to know one another during the month Wren was under the U.S. Marshal’s protection.

Jaeger is, though, a gripping, emotionally hungry-type read that touches the reader’s soul: true love is meant to be, and time cannot stand in its way or destroy it.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book, and am now interested in reading the first three books of the Black Knights series.

This book starts with the same prologue as all of the others in the Black Knight series. Moriel (Satan) is recruiting men into his Black Knight band by signing a contract in blood. The contract is fulfilled and can be broken only when the Black Knight finds his true love, and spares his life. Once the life is spared, the spell is broken. (That is the normal plot for a Black Knight novel.).

In this story, Jaeger is approached by Moriel hundreds of years ago to join the Black Knights. One of his first jobs was to kill a royal named Lord Wren. Fast forward through many lifetimes to modern times when we come upon the Wren who will be central to this story, Wren O'Riley. Wren is in the witness protection program awaiting a trial where he is the key witness again his uncle (the leader of a Mexican drug cartel). In this lifetime, Jaeger is a marshal in the witness protection program, and he is assigned to protect Wren.

With that little bit of information (and having read a group of the black knight novels) the entire rough plot of the novel is spelled out in the first 7 pages of the book. The only thing that needs to be determined in the reading are the flourishes of the background story.

It ends up that Jaeger's boss is in the pocket of the drug lords, so Wren's secret location is not a secret for very long. (Well, it is secret long enough for Jaeger and Wren to become much more than just witness and protector.).

Jaeger comes to understand that someone in his government agency is giving information to the bad guys, so Jaeger goes out on his own to protect Wren. In the end, Wren testifies against the bad guys and is relocated to Spain to live out his life in the witness protection program. Although everyone thinks Jaeger is dead, he is actually alive and Moriel has given him a second chance to find love with Wren.

I won't summarize every twist and turn of the plot here because those are the only things that make this story worth reading. So, I'll fast forward to the end . . . .

When Jaeger finds Wren at he end of the book, Moriel appears and explains to Jaeger that he does not ordinarily give a Black Knight two chances in one lifetime to find love, but he is making an exception in this case. (That makes no sense since Moriel is Satan, and Satan does not give second chances based upon a love story.). Jaeger and Wren find love and there is a happy ever after ending,

If the author developed the plot a little more, the book could have been more intriguing. Instead, she relies upon nauseating and too frequent sex scenes to move the plot forward, and that decreases the overall merit of this book when compared to the balance of the Black Knight series. So, I give this book 2.5 stars.

This series has redeemed itself to me. Another good one. It was actually good to see one of the Knights be a good guy. In a manner of speaking. And really surprising to see the way it ended. Knowing how evil some beings are in this series, it was surprising to see a spark of good.

Jaeger has a view of people that is actually well founded. He has seen all the bad life has to offer by working with the Marshall's service. He has seen so many criminals use the service to get away with murder, literally. So when a new assignment comes to him, he isn't looking forward to it. He will do it because it's his job but he is so sick of people and the criminalistic ways. When he meets Wren he is disgusted. How could this computer 'geek’ not know his family is a bunch of criminals? He just wants to get through this month and get the young man to his trial and be done with it all. Maybe finally move into seclusion somewhere. If only he could control the urges he feels to kill. Being in this line of work, he can kinda get away with it if need be. But he doesn't know if he could last long retired somewhere. The longer, though, he gets to know Wren, the more things are changing. Sure the attraction was there from the beginning, but he would never cross that line. But somehow Wren is getting under his skin. And Jaeger wants to cross many lines with him. He knows nothing will ever come of it but he figures he can use him for the time he has him and it will be ok. But being around Wren is causing him to see things in a different light and maybe things are going to change after all.

You know, I love when the supposed bad guys turn out to be such softies. Jaeger for all his huffing and chest puffing, can't seem to keep Wren from getting under his skin. And poor Wren, caught in the crossfire of some messed up stuff going on in family. He knew his Mami kept him sheltered and a little naive, but he had no idea how corrupt his family really was until looking at figures on his computer were showing things weren't adding up. To beat it all he sees a murder in front of him, loses his lover, and is now on the run for his life. And that isn't even all. He gets betrayed and almost killed. I feel so bad for Wren. All he wants is a quiet life, maybe in Spain with his Mami now. And since he is seeing newer sides of Jaeger, maybe Jaeger added in the mix to go with him. He wants love. Someone to get him. But life just won't let up on him. Jaeger, in his gruffiness, is seeing a whole new side to Wren. He is gutted that he didn't see Wren for what he really is. He just wants to keep Wren safe. He doesn't think he will ever get more than that, but darn it all if he finally isn't thinking about what life would be life if he could settle down with someone while 'retiring’. He finally is starting to feel a peace that he's never had before. Even in the midst of all the storms going on around them. He wants Wren with something he has never felt before.

I really like the way Jaeger was written. It was the most 'real’ out of all the books this far. Definitely some surprises. People aren't perfect. They have faults, but also dreams and desires. They have moments where sometimes there seems to be no way things could change, but then things surprise them and they get the one thing their heart desires. Just when they think there is no hope, Hope springs eternal

Independent reviewer for Divine Magazine, I was gifted my copy of this book.

US Marshal Jaeger is in witness protection, and he despises those who have turned state witness to save their own miserable hides. But Wren is different. Wren pushes buttons in Jaeger he didn't know needed pushing. Wren makes him think, about after work, about life, about love. But first, Jaeger has to keep them both alive long enough for Wren to testify against his family.

I did NOT (underlined, block capitals, bold script, just it case it loses the emphasis when I copy and paste this!) like Jaeger. NOT AT ALL. He is a far..colder...harsher person than those who came before him in this series. He does not like playing baby sitter to snitches and he makes no bones about showing it. He will use a client in any way he wants. And he wants Wren with a passion he knew not that he carried. But Jaeger is just.....Jaeger, you know?? And I can't find the right words to describe him and you know how I hate not being able to say what I want!

Moriel does go against what he has been doing in that he gives Jaeger a second chance to redeem himself with this incarnation of the other half of his soul. And Moriel is, in his own words, "old and tired" Makes me think. Makes me wonder what he'll do in any future books.

Which leads me to ask, will there be more?? I hope so. I'd like to read them too. I'm enjoying watching different authors deal with the 'love, kill, rinse, and repeat' theme, I really am. As much as I did not like Jaeger, I did enjoy his story.

Oh, I also liked that besides Jaeger and Wren, another character has a say. I'm not gonna say who, or what he has to say but I will say this: that character made his bed, and he has to lie in it!

Even though Jaeger himself didn't quite work for me, its still a....

4 star read.

Jaeger is a thriller with a nice mix of supernatural, action, and suspense. Many of the characters fit delightful roles such as hero, victim, villain, double-crosser, etc. The premise of the story is that Jaeger has sold his soul (sort of) to a wizard, who curses him to relive the same life over and over for centuries, only to be able to break the spell by forgiving his enemy.

Jaeger and wren (hero and protectee) are well developed throughout the story, and Jaeger, in particular, makes some significant changes over the course of the book. The storyline was relatively predictable, with a few plot twists that made for interesting “Oh wow!” moments. Some of the choices Jaeger made, in particular going back to a safe-house he knew had been compromised, had me rolling my eyes. However, there needed to be writing devices to move the story along.

For me, this story had a few flaws that prevented me from truly enjoying it. First, the shift from closed off to opening up seemed a bit abrupt. One minute Jaeger’s all work, and the next he’s crossing lines with little hesitation. Second, as mentioned above, were the convenience of certain plot devices. And finally, the book could have ended about four chapters earlier than it did. We reach the climax of the story about three chapters before the end of the book, and then spend the remaining chapters as a slow wind down.

Overall, I’d give this a mid-rating. Entertaining and clever, but it didn’t knock my socks off.

Was not what i was expecting. Was expecting a series more like JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood, and it's not, but don't think as it's not like that fabulous series, it's not good, because it is.
Jaegar has lived many lives, thanks to the pact he made with Moriel a wizard to become one of his Black Knights. To live, to kill, to die and to start the process all over again. The catch they must pardon the one enemy they first killed when they became a black knight and the cycle will be broken, however they have no knowledge of this detail until the end of every life, to know they had killed the one again, and the knowledge they just learnt will not go with them into the next life.
Jaegar in this life is a US Marshal. He is charged with protecting Wren who is giving eveidence against his Uncle and his goons.
they start off rocky Jaegar not liking the fact that Wren is a member of the family he is giving evidence about and only come forward after his lover's father was killed by his uncle and as a result his lover died.
Great read, enjoyable and entertaining. Recommend this multi authored series.

This series just keeps getting better and better. This book in particular is my favorite in the series after having read the previous books and knowing the way of The Black Knights and the moral dilemma that they go through. This one took a major twist and made this book the best in the series thus far and only makes me want to read the next book in the series that much more to see what is going to happen next.

Jaeger in my opinion is unlike any of the previous black knight. He does not follow the path that most of the previous black knights took. In my opinion he did not really face his moral dilemma until after he passed in this life that the book is based on so he learned what he lost too late. Or did he?

Wren is really put through the wringer in this book. He has emotional distress coming at him from every direction not too mention all the danger he is in and the ones that he is in danger from.

When Jaeger and Wren finally gave into their attraction to one another I was so excited but their relationship was based purely off of sex where Jaeger was concerned because he is the type of man that when he decides on a path in life, he does not let emotions shade him. So Wren fell in love with a man that once again could not or would not return his feelings but Wren knew from the start that their days togther was numbered and was bound and determined to enjoy what little happiness he has with Jaeger for as long as he can.

This book was full of so many dangerous situations and these characters fought to the very end to get what the was seeking out of life. They were seeking safety, love, happiness, and a life that they could be proud of. There was more then one twist to this book and I kept being blown away by all the different twist and turns. I definitely cannot wait till the next book comes out. I have a feeling it is going to be just as intense and interesting as this one was if not more so.

This is definitely on my recommended read list because it will blow you away.
