I always love a good, light-hearted read and grabbed up this one just for fun. It's not my first Kpop read, so I was prepared for the not always deeply founded emotions and surprises. . .and actually was looking forward to them.
Corrine is top cheerleader, gets great grades and queen of the school, but she's also secretly a kpop fan. Dying to attend a fan gathering, she disguises herself as best as possible and tries to stay in the shadows, but fate has her face to face with her fangirl heart-throb, Minji. Thanks to a freak accident, chaos ensues and she finds herself in possession of his cell phone. What goes on from there is something she never ever could have planned.
The characters are deliciously stereotypical of any kpop drama. Corrine is pretty and perfect, while Minji is a hot hero. Corrine is more of the 'bad girl' in this story, although it's more due to wrong decision than direct meanness. Minji is super sweet and the perfect guy in every way. Their meeting is predictable but sweet and simply fun to read about. And so, I fell into most of the book and let myself simply be entertained.
If this book had been a little longer than 220 or so pages, it would have done quite a bit of good. Just as the relationship hits cloud-7, disaster strikes as it needs to in this type of story. But it happens too quick. Minji is upset and takes off as quick as a snap. The sudden, and not really understandable, sudden curve felt like whiplash. The last couple of chapters peddle quick to bring the whole thing around to seal a happy ending, which comes speedy around with a few tears in between. If this entire last quarter of the book had stretched another fifty or so pages and held the same pace as the first three-quarters, I would have been a fan. But sudden race to an ending, left me dazed and shaking my head.
In other words, this book has everything a fun kpop read should have and, except for that end (why the sudden end?), was really an enjoyable read.
