Another crazy fun crime novel from Jamie Lee Scott. If you love your mystery series with a pinch of romance, a dash of snark, and a few dead bodies, the Gotcha Detective Agency Mysteries series is for you.
This is the 8th book in the series.
Charles has been gone for months, and Mimi's not feeling like being a private detective anymore. She's had it with the liars and the cheats. Speaking of liars and cheats, when she takes on a missing person case for a new client, she's thrown into a web of lies and deceit that ends in murder. Come along as once again, MImi Capurro butts heads with her homicide detective boyfriend, Nick Christianson, when their cases cross paths. What surprises do her client and employees have in store?
USA Today bestselling author, Jamie Lee Scott, loves killing people, ehem, writing a good mystery. When she’s not writing novels, she’s writing screenplays and making indie films. Her first produced screenplay can be seen on DirecTV’s ShortsHD channel. No One Knows is an “Editor’s Choice” on the channel for short films. Jamie lives on a farm with her husband, two dogs, two cats, and three horses. Aside from writing, Jamie is a competitive barrel racer.
What a great series, and all except the latest audiobooks are available through Hoopla at your library. The books and are short, fast reads, ending that kept you wanting to read the next book in the series. Glad I found this series.
Mimi got a new client who S wife was missing. Mary, was a prostitute and having an affair. Someone murdered her and cut off her fingertips. Another who done it full of twists and surprises. Good read
I enjoyed the book, but I felt like it was so detailed until the end and it just ended quickly and wasn't as detailed as all the other portions of the book.
I like this series. I like most of the main characters. Charles? He's an ass. He annoyed me before, but in this installment, I hated him. I wouldn't be upset if he left on one of his secret missions and never returned. He can go find a like somewhere else and just be gone.
One major flaw with this series is how the underlying mystery wraps up. It just sort of ends. In this one, there was no real closure. No real motive or reason, even though I guessed who it was early on.
One thing that really does annoy me, the editing is really bad. I'm not sure whether it's typos or blatant grammatical errors, and I know that things are missed when it is put onto a Kindle format, but these mistakes are really beyond annoying.
The team is back and as great as ever. The crime, the victim and the perpetrator are all complex and disturbing but so compelling! I have come to care about Mimi more than ever but my crush on Charles is waning as his arrogance seems to grow but then he has the knowledge and skills to back it up. I suspect if I saw him in action, that crush would grow. I do wish Matthew had been in the story more but his presence wouldn't have fit the story line. I loved that Mimi got to work with Nick some as well as Charles this time and it was great to see that Lydia is still working out well. I love the little something extra that having Mimi's mother on the job has brought to the office. Their interaction is another step that has made Mimi seem more approachable.
The case is as complex, one of Jamie Lee Scott's trademarks. A man shows up at the office to ask the team to find his wife even though she has been gone for less than a day. Seems simple enough but red flags are already flying for Mimi and with good reason. It appears that there are so many secrets floating around that the whole truth may never be known.
Another great Gotcha Detective Agency book! Each time Jamie Lee Scott puts out a new book I can't wait to download it. This time around Mimi & her detectives catch a really grisly murder case. This is a well plotted page turner with some very interesting plot twists. Lots of interesting characters, especially the mysterious Charles.
