I read this as part of the Under the Kissing Bough Collection

This was the story of two wounded souls, Cole and Katherine.

Cole lost his family to illness two years earlier and carries survivors guilt for not being home when they were ill. The holidays are especially hard for him, so he accepted the invitation to spend the holidays with his neighbors, the Earl & Countess of Adair.

Katherine is a woman running from her past, she was introduced in the previous book as the assistant to Grace's London seamstress. Grace quickly befriended Katherine and has invited her to join them for the holidays. As Katherine past has once again caught up with her, she happily accepts and plans to enjoy the holiday before she has to take on another identity and move on yet again.

Katherine and Cole are thrown together on several occasions and while they are attracted to each other, they both keep their secrets hidden and don't believe that they can share anything more than a few kisses.

When Katherine's past catches up with her, Cole helps her confront her past and he confronts his.

I personally found the ending a little anti-climatic, but it is a novella, so I understand the need to expedite things.

The writing was great and the one love scene was warm and well done. I would happily recommend this book, it is part of a series, but could easily be read as a stand alone title.

before we get to the review, a word from our "sexy" mc.
"he reached out a finger to touch the tip of her breast..." ooooh, he poked her in the boob, so hot.

everything in this book left a lot to be desired. Katherine & Cole's romance was pretty cute, if very insta-lovey. i feel like their story would've been better suited with a larger page count. at least when it came to Katherine's storyline, Cole's not so much. it brought nothing to the plot, & the constant comparisons to Katherine's 3 yr? long situation made me roll my eyes. sorry your whole family died but that doesn't equate to being on the run from a brother in law who's accusing you of murder. that just ain't it chief. also i call bullshit on Cole knowing that Katherine was 4 MONTHS PREGNANT!!!!! while she was completely oblivious. it's her body, not yours the actual fuck?! and finally, grace should've been brought on the secrets long before the "climax" happened & that's that on that.

Katherine

Grace introduced us to Katherine, the modiste's assistant, when she first begins preparation to attend the season. Katherine somehow understands Grace, helping her to choose the styles and fabrics that will show half mourning, while raising her gowns with beautiful fabric to a level of elegance and modesty.
Now Katherine's been invited to join Grace's family for Christmas at their country home. Little does Grace know of the hardships Katherine has survived since her husband died three years ago. You'll want to follow her on her journey to avoid the danger she's in.
Excellent!

It is said that Christmas brings all kinds of magic and after reading Katherine and Cole's story, you truly do believe it! Such a heart warming novella to read at this time of year and your heart can't help but love these two lost souls who come together and strive to find their HEA. Lots of romance, intrigue, mystery, etc....very well written and a wonderful addition to this series.

Nice story for Katherine

This novella finds Katherine's happy ever after. I found the resolution to her running a little too quick, but such is the way of novellas. I enjoyed the description of the holiday celebrations and how Katherine and Cole found healing together.

This is a novella really, rather than a full length book and really has only the looses links to the detective side of the "7 curses of London" series. But if it is a soppy Christmas Victorian romance you are after, look no further...it is all there, mistletoe and all.

Such a sweet, sweet love story

What a wonderful novella. I love Katherine and was so glad to see that she could stop running and hiding after meeting Cole. And Cole needed Katherine just as much to resolve his pain and give him a future he can look forward to.

Beautiful

Short but a beautiful romantic story. The HEA ending and epilogue was really well done. I imagined more of an adventurous part in the plot but it turned out really well. Good read.

A very short story of two people with tragedy in their past who meet at a house party. They find each other intriguing. After reading the previous book this sounded interesting but because it was so short it lacked the intrigue of a longer book. It was enjoyable though.

easy read

Simple plot and simple story about how a widow running from her brother in law finds peace at least and a hea. The intimate scene was not necessary to the storyline as far as I am concerned

Lovely

Light holiday fare that includes friendship, mistletoe, and grief and loss. But pain shared is always diminished. Add to that a little Christmas magic.

This is a really good quick Christmas read! I love Victorian books and London, so with plenty of romance and a bit of mystery thrown in, it was perfect for me! I saw the book on StoryFinds and was taken in by the book cover right away. Then the book blurb convinced me it was a book I might like. I'm glad I took a chance on an author I had not heard of before. I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future.

My Thoughts:

I found this touching, and well written novella to be very good. I haven't read any of the other books in this series but will endeavor to seek them out.

I have read other books by this author and have enjoyed each one.
I gave this book 4.5 of 5 stars for storyline and characterization and 3 of 5 flames for heat. It does have it's heated moments however brief.

A novella - read as part of the Under the Kissing Bough collection.

This is a Victorian novella of romance in a holiday story of two broken people finding each other under a kissing bough. It is well written - I would have liked a full novel of this one. It is sweet and caring.

Delightfully touching festive romance!

Sweet, touching romance with an element of festive cheer that keeps you hooked and enthralled throughout. Due to some clever writing, the comfort of some familiar faces from the series and the looming shadow of a menacing presence all help to make this an enjoyable way to spend a few hours.
Glad Katherine got her HEA as I loved her character in the last book and Cole was the perfect hero to help her combat her haunting past as they grasped at love together, choosing to fight their mutual internal battles with loss and loneliness side by side.
A great addition to the series that can be read as a stand alone novella but so much more enjoyable as part of the whole. Loved it!

This is a heartwarming story about two lonely people. Katherine is trying to stay one step ahead of her past while Cole exists one day at a time. They are brought together for a Christmas celebration and find more than they bargained for. The story is engaging from the first sentence as you are pulled in to what Katherine's secrets are and what she has to hide. I have read and enjoyed all of Lana Williams books and love how she ties in characters from one book to the next, it's like getting to see old friends again. Looking forward to the next book in this series!

Finding each other

Loved the short novella on Katherine and Cole. Katherine has been on the run from her brother-in- law for several years. Cole has been alone for 2 years since he lost his parents and sister to influenza. Will the mistletoe toe bring these 2 lost souls together. Love the read and ending.
