Obsidious
Sometimes, the membranes between worlds thins and something slips through…
Taking their kids on a hunting trip to Maker's Woods, Sergeant Kris Jensen and her Special Ops friends, Brooke and Melanie, soon realize they are the ones being hunted.
When one of the kids goes missing they search the area, finding a nest with ravenous creatures that move very fast and bend light to appear invisible. But the creatures aren't the only danger. One of Kris's friends gets black goo on her and becomes infected with an obsidious interdimensional spore.
As a covert military base sends out units to neutralize the interdimensional threat, Kris, her son, the kids, and friends fight to survive against an enemy ripped from a loved one that will stop at nothing to infect them and overrun our world with its offspring.
Kris battles the ultimate nightmare. One that refuses to end and might ultimately destroy her and the entire human race.

I hate to be so disparaging, there were a lot of problems with this book. First off, there are a ton of formatting issues with the font throughout and some very confusing sentence structure and word choices. So that was all very distracting. The story started off a little rocky with the introduction of six characters, giving extremely brief backgrounds, and skipping right ahead to the voyage into the woods. The story then proceeds to just jump into a nonstop action thrillride for the remainder of the book. It more or less took a ton of notes from the movie Predator, and even a handful from Spider-Man lore, which it even references. Now the issue here was that it spent so much time and focus on getting to and maintaining the action, that everything else fell to the wayside. This included the kids purposes in the story (They all felt like afterthoughts.), the logical explanation of the creatures (You get a single information dump.), the military’s actions (You have all these surveillance systems and special divisions, but they never checked the suspected issue that was detected?) etc. None of it came together and just felt very choppy. This was also a short read and could have greatly benefitted from a much slower pace, building up the characters and their personalities/backgrounds, to make the reader be interested in them all, and breaking up the action every so often, as to let the reader find their bearings. With the inclusion of all the military personnel on top of the main characters, the barrage of makes/models of the weapons flying all over, and the different creatures, you couldn’t even appreciate the details of the action. This was very disappointing, even for someone looking for a rather superficial read. I did a little digging and noticed that this was one of the authors very early works, so I’m sure many of these issues were improved upon as he continued his writing journey. I would just recommend that any potential readers skip this book and look at his newer works.

Alone in the woods, three women and their children find themselves up against a horde of beasts like no one was ever set eyes on before…and survived. But luckily the three women concerned are highly trained soldiers on a hunting trip, so don’t take the appearance of their antagonists lightly and quickly become a force to be reckoned with.
Lock and load.
Part Aliens, part Predator, Obsidious is an enjoyable, but by the numbers, guns and gore military bullet fest. It doesn’t break any new ground in the monsters vs humans genre, but the female leads are plucky enough to keep it interesting as endless piles of marine meat fill the forest floor.
If you want something short, that gets stuck into the action within the first few pages, doesn’t let go until the last page, and is action packed from cover to cover with guns and bombs and blood and brains and teeth, Obsidious is a B-movie read that harks back to 80’s horror with plenty of references to look out for.

a paper beast
The story was a blast at the start but has the story progressed it went down hill from the wacky Lv of lucky chacthers had at surviving where teams of professional soldiers where be killed from. The other thing was the abrupt introduction of info of the creatures and the world they came from that how the author explained it was vague like the reader would’ve read a previous book on that subject but ididn’t find thing on it.

Obsidious has been a great book to read. This story had me so enthralled that I couldn't put it down. In fact as I was reading it, it felt as though I was watching it on a big screen. I felt like I
could relate to parts of the book, mainly in the beginning. For example, the relationship Kris
has with her son, just seemed like the same way my son and I enteract to each other. Overall this was a very well written book and I truly hope that Mr. Pederson continues this story into
another book. I would definitely recommend obsidious to any one who is into young adult or
science fiction books and wants a quick great read. Thank you Mr. Pederson for a great
read.

A quick read for me but one that was fairly enjoyable.

February 5, 2017Sci Fi isn't usually my thing, but just reading the synopsis had me bound and determined to read. I found this book to be very empowering, the main character is a women who defies the odds time and time again.
I honestly can't wait to be able to read the next book. The whole book was so jammed packed with action that is hard to fathom the short amount of actual time that it takes place.

This book is not my normal genre but my husband got me intrigued when telling me about it. I, of course, had to read it then! I love a good page turner and this book fits the bill. I find "Obsidious" is a well written, fast paced book that will hold your interest from beginning to end, I highly recommend it!
