Christmas with the Super-Heroes - Limited Collectors’ Edition #43 is an over-sized DC Comics issue that collects material from Superman’s Christmas Adventures, Batman 219, House of Mystery 191, Sensation Comics 14, and Adventure Comics 82. It was originally released in 1972 and this facsimile edition was released December 2025.
Christmas with the Super-Heroes is a collection of golden and silver age stories. The book opens with a tale of Superman aiding Santa Claus in delivering presents after two crooks try to sabotage Santa’s workshop after he refused to work for them. The next story sees Batman taking some time to enjoy the Christmas spirit. Thirdly we get a short comic about a young couple who are worried about a news report of a mysterious prowler who is ransacking homes when they hear someone in their house late at night. Next up is a comic from the point of view of a German fur tree (seriously) as Wonder Woman investigates a secret Nazi cave. And the last comic showcases the golden age Sandman and Sandy battling a couple of con men who are attempting a Christmas job.
This anthology issues does a good job of presenting Christmas themed comics from some of DC Comic’s most legendary titles. Like many older comics, they don’t hold up particularly well in today’s world of storytelling, but it’s a fun look at comic history. My favorite was the Batman story which featured the brilliant art of Neal Adams and Dick Giordano.
