***This is a rerelease of previously published stories with some new material.***
Scarred and Kilt Matty has a new neighbor, and she strongly suspects the kilt-wearing hottie is a vampire— he only goes out at night, has weird visitors and the blood bank is making regular deliveries. But he doesn’t seem to hurt anyone, so “live and let live” is Matty’s motto. Until she sees a guy armed with crosses and wooden stakes breaking into the neighbor’s house. Matty charges to the rescue— and ends up in Mr. Hottie’s bed…and on his desk…and…
Lacey and Lethal Lacey hunts vampires—vile monsters who leave death and shattered lives in their wake. They murdered her sister and she wants revenge. Until she captures a big, sexy blue-eyed vamp, and the strong attraction she feels contradicts everything she’s become. But she can’t resist getting closer. Lethal can’t believe the little lass got the better of him. He’s been drugged and chained, but he’s more insulted than concerned. She swears he’s her enemy, but he’s determined to be her lover.
Mine to Chase Jasmine met the guy of her dreams, who unfortunately wasn’t interested. She’s spent a year filled with lustful fantasies and soul-deep yearning for a man who doesn’t want her. Now she’s locked away in a dark hole, kidnapped by a madman, her life almost over. She was supposed to be his a year ago, but Chase had walked away to protect her from his world. He’s a mixed-breed—vampire and werewolf—and his list of enemies is endless. His current mission is to hunt down and kill a rogue vamp who’s preying on humans, but what Chase finds changes everything. Jasmine’s one of the victims. Instinct demands he protect her, possess her. He won’t be denied again. This time, she’s his—for keeps.
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
Okay, so it's been a minute since I've actually had the time to write a review on a book I actually liked. So here goes...
I was right. #3 in this book totally blew stories 1&2 out of the park. Though 1&3 are actually my faves. My rating for all 3 stories here separately, are as follows. #1- 4 and half ****s #2- 3***s #3- 5*****s
Story number two was okay. I just was not feeling their overall coupling and how they came to be. But certain aspects of their plight as individuals was still interesting for me.
If you are fans of Mrs. L.D. (New Species Author), you will definitely appreciate the insta-love she has rocking here with these characters of hers in a traditional Vamp/Werewolf setting. I really like just the overall ambience and layers that come with this mini trilogy.
So if you liked New Species and are curious, I would recommend this read.
I need more!!! This was absolutely amazing, lovely and perfect.
Laurann Dohner is my absolute favorite author when the time to read real erotic novels comes. She never disappoints, she can write about any topic, it would leave you completely happy!
I love this author works. And this isn't exception. All three stories are great reads. Finished one after another. If you love Vamps and Wolf's, you must add this to your TBR list.
This author has never been one whose writing/books I liked, they often were knock off of better writers, both in plot and non existing writing skills.
But these novellas just dragged her on my list of writers to stear clear of. Smut is not a bad word in *my* book, but I often lament that eroticism isn't porn. These novellas weren't good enough to be called porn, they are written to give the author some release IMO. There's nothing here that can point at some talent, absurd stories, flat characters, total lack of coherence. Characters acting as puppets in the author's hand. A small example, one of the heroines is a hunter, theoretically hating vamps. Do you think it has any bearing on the story? Nope.
Fuck this shit. I only read the first book which is disgusting. It was r@pe not s*x or love. They just met, mind you she spent three months watching the H from her house. But who the fuck he think he is to cuff her into bed and touch her just so she says yes to turning her into a vampire. This is exactly why I hate fated mates bullshit.
Three short stories and all of them were pretty boring, furthermore they included a bit problematic themes for me. This is the second by this author I tried and she obviously just isn‘t for me.
Scarred And Kilt You gotta love a man in kilt. As does Matty. Ms Dohner’s vamps are classic, though they are warm and they do live. They vamp out after having been bitten and taken a nap. Other than that, they dust when staked, very much like a Buffy-vamp would, and sunlight turns them to dust as well.
I loved Kilt, or rather Blaron as his name is. Give the guy a haircut and I’d gladly take him off of Ms Dohner’s hands. The leading men in these three stories are all very Alpha, and their possessive nature will make some readers scream bloody murder. Y’all know who you are.
Matty is a survivor. A scarred survivor, both physically and emotionally. I love her. I love how she runs to save Kilt without a second thought, and actually manages to truss up the vamp hunter after Blaron. Kick ass heroine. Their story is my favorite one in this compilation.
Lacey And Lethal Lacey takes down Lethal, both literally and figuratively. I connected the least with Lacey and Lethal in this compilation. I was kinda annoyed with Lacey for being so bloody stubborn all the time. At times I was saying “really???” out loud. But if she wasn’t, we wouldn’t have had this story, eh?
I found it hilarious how easily Lethal was taken down. This huge, bad ass, ancient vamp was taken down by a female half his size. That’s funny. I did feel bad for Lacey how her own team betrayed her and went after her. And I kinda felt a little bad for her when Lethal played her when he didn’t show her he could get loose at any time when she kept him bound to the bed.
Mine To Chase Jasmine’s story made me sad. While I understand her fear, I wanted her to be more kick ass. As such, her character disappeared a little in Chase’s shade.
I loved Chase. And I loved that he was a vamp/shifter hybrid, born like that. Made for an interesting twist. Funniest scene though was when Chase looked up and go an eyeful of what was underneath Blaron’s kilt. I died a little. Very memorable scene.
I really didn’t like some of the secondary characters in this story, though I don’t think anyone is supposed to like them. Some of them I wanted to punch.
Overall, I loved this little compilation. It gave me a couple days of happy bliss, reading something I’d never read before of Laurann Dohner’s. I have a few books of hers I haven’t dived into yet, I want to, but I guess I’m saving them. Laurann Dohner, along with one or two other authors, has become my go-to author when I need my comfort reading. Some of her books I’ve read more than five times. With Ms Dohner I know I’ll get a good story, characters I’ll love, and an escape into a world that wraps me in its arms. Her books are different, have a good amount of smut, heartwarming characters, and the kind of romance we all dream about. I just want to cut some of the characters’ hair… :D
Scarred and Kilt 3 out of 5 stars. Matty+ Blaron This is where the series stars with Matty, the cloistered neighbor who ends up saving her Vampire neighbor Blaron aka Kilt from a vampire slayer, by being a nosy neighbor. The first book is very cutesy. Matty is scarred and a fighter after what happened to her, which Blaron finds endearing and basically he knight in shining armors her.
Lacey and Lethal 3.75 out of 5 stars. Lacey+Lethal
Lacey is a vampire slayer…she became one after losing her sister to a rogue vampire…but of course she doesn’t know that. All she knows is that all vampires are bad. So she captures Lethal and is set to kill him…let him meet the sun, until she decides to use him for her pleasure. This part right here, makes this the best book in the series, because book two has the smut, the other two…not so much.
Anyhow, eventually she releases him, and Lethal sets out to make her his and also avenge her sister. At times, Lacey was so annoying with her vampire-bad-slayer-kill mentality…but they were my favourite couple.
Mine to Chase 3 out of 5 stars Jasmine+Chase So Chase, hybrid Vamp+Werewolf works for Blaron+Lethal as their head of security. He gets called in towards the end of book 2 to help in capturing and stopping the rogue vampire to avenge Lacey’s sister. When he arrives, he’s met with death and amidst all that Jasmine…who he had a thing for but kept away from her for her protection. Yeah right. I hate the fall on my sword types of heroes…because we all know, eventually, they’ll end up together and so inevitably they were wasting time in their keeping away from my heart bullshit. Anyway, he saves Jasmine. They face opposition to their love. Then the guys have a major show down at the end and that’s the end of the story for all the three couples. They were all short novellas. I would have preferred if they had an epilogue to show them all settled into their paranormal domesticated bliss.
This short story immediately draws us in, from the first description of our kilt wearing neighbor to the courageous beauty who thought of nothing but doing the right thing. The author did a fantastic job of bringing out the best in her vampires. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
5 stars
Lacey and lethal
Leather, chains and Lacey
Wow! What a great second story to this short series. The author created us a strong hero to fall in love with and an equally strong woman meant to be his mate. These two might be at cross purposes at first, but by the time they reach their HEA they are on the same page. I can’t wait to read what happens next!
5 stars
Mine to chase
Never should have left
I wish there were more stories in this book. I loved this one, but I feel like the tale is unfinished. Will Jenny get her man? Does Arry find someone to love? At least we know that Chase and Jasmine get their HEA. She might have had to wait a year and live through a horrific experience, but thankfully Chase saw the writing on the wall. I am really looking forward to what the author comes up with next.
Three short stories by one of my favourite authors. These are okay but not really up to her usual standard. It helped that all three are stories are connected and the same characters are in all of them. One might even say it’s a mini series. The first two are about vampires and the third a vamp/werewolf. All 3 are pretty similar in that all three find human mates. I really prefer this authors full length books, as there are plenty more characters that I’d like to read about. Especially in the New Species series.
This story is so heart warming ,I wanted it to go in forever. Matty and Blaron were destined to be together, there was and instant connection between them. I loved every single page of their story.
Mine To Chase
This was a short story that was well worth the read.I fell in love with Chase and I'm sure you will too.
Lacey and Lethal I've read most of Laurann Dohner"s books and this one caught my eye because I love anything with vampires and werewolves.I was not disappointed. This book was fast paced, engaging and I was swept away by the immediate attraction between Lacey and Lethal.I loved this book!!
I didn't hate these. They were cute for short stories, and there were some great one liners. I did like the fact they all knew each other and their relationships crossed, but the last one was meh.
The first one was cute. Great starter to each story.
Second was funny. Probably my favorite out of the three.
Third one was meh. Nothing stood out to me in the third one.
Overall I would read these again, I wouldn’t die to read them, but they are a great break from these longer books.
The three short stories here are all well written, action, romance, great sex & lots of sass!! I love that all 3 are connected & I don’t have to wait to find out what happens with the other characters!! I have NEVER been disappointed with any book by Laurianne Dohner & will continue to purchase them as soon as they come out!!!
All three of these stories are good. They all interconnect around a vampire club. The first two stories are about the owners of the club and the third is about the head of security for the club. They are all sexy and dangerous, so there is a lot of action and sexy times.
Blaron and Matti meet by her protecting him. It's a really sweet story. Blaron and his kilt. It's funny. Then we meet Lethal when a hundred named Lacey and her team kidnap him. She is a hellion and stuck on her beliefs. Lethal changes her mind though. Lots of fighting. The last one we meet Chase and Jasmine. Chase rescues Jasmine from a rogue vamp. He mates her and all such breaks loose. He is rougher than Blaron and Lethal but he loves his Jasmine.
Super easy to read in one sitting. There are three short stories all with the commonality being Moonings, a vampire/werewolf 'club'. Most of these stories were in previous anthologies and being as they were in anthologies, they're short so you're going to have the insta love/lust and a fast timeline. My only con is most ended with me thinking..."so what happens next" and that's a bit annoying. But otherwise what I expected picking up stories I knew where in previous anthologies.
A little disappointed with this book. Laurann Dohner usually writes better. They weren't horrible but not up to what I think of her normal quality. Her Numbers series was just AWESOME. These expect for last one were just meh. The stories felt rushed and incomplete even taking into consideration of how these books tend to be where it's practically love at first sight.
Meh. I think I've finally come to the realization that the short stories just don't do it for me. I need some build blocks for the lovin peeps. Not just eye contact-MATES. Still liked some of the premise to the stories and how they were connected. Im just a longer story kind of gal i suppose. Shucks. Oh well.
