A chance encounter between Clyde and Cindy changes both of their lives. Fate brought them together at a time of great tragedy for Cindy, as their world was collapsing around them. Tricia, Clyde's daughter has gone to Knoxville to pick up her daughter, on the way home they are ambushed.
Dropped at 5% in...too much telling and not enough showing. Two chapters, eight characters introduced with no dialog. Do not recommend. Picked up this copy through Kindle Unlimited.
I really don't know what to say about this book. It was a good read but for some reason I kept thinking that it was like reading about "The Waltons" going through the collapse. The lack of use of contractions however stilted all the dialogue and I just couldn't get past it. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and in that regard the author did a fantastic job! Overall, as odd as it probably sounds, I would recommend this as a refreshing, feel good novel unlike anything I've ever read in this genre. A lot of interesting thoughts and ideas, some unexpected adventures and moments of tension, but best of all, a character named Clyde who will live on in my memories as if he were someone I'd actually known and for him alone I thank the author for recreating a wonderful old farmer so realistic that I could easily imagine him sitting down outside with my own grandfather or uncles after a long days work and just enjoying the company of each other. Good, caring men who knew how to work hard, love hard, and enjoy the simple things in life with a passion unlike anyone else I've ever known.
I liked the storyline. I am jealous of the country lives depicted. The community the sharing, looking out for one another was a reflection of Jesus' words to treat your neighbors like you want to be treated. In the Bible at Matt 22:37. Unfortunately the rest of the people acted like those described at 2Tim 3:1-5 "..fierce without love, selfish, violent.... We need Jesus cause this story is on the horizon and He is going to fix it
I really liked this book. It was an easy read. The only criticism u have is that the author did not use language that people living in the south would use. There were not enough contractions in the everyday conversations between the characters. Overall, I felt that the author has an excellent hold on how the people of the United States would like for the federal government to be reworked would an event such as the one depicted should occur. Overall, an excellent read. Well done!
Not a fast action packed story but lots of interesting things to learn about. If such a calamity were to occur I hope most people would help those they could as did the characters in this story
Overcoming obstacles, and learning how to protect your life at any cost is a story to be taking quite seriousley. There are valuable lessons to think deeply about and endeavor to always be prepared, Just in case.
Loved this book. Being from east Tennessee myself, I know there are people like the ones in this story. Hopefully we never have to face a collapse of this kind. But just look at DC and society now, and it can happen nearly did in 2008.
Interesting and entertaining story. Needs to work on dialog through. Kind of drilled and didn't flow well. The ending was virtually transcending as his other book.
When this story popped up in the Kindle Bookstore a few days ago I tried a sample and was immediately drawn into the story. I ended up reading til midnight and finishing it first thing the next day. I highly recommend it if you like your prepper survival fiction with an optimistic slant. The pros of this book are the above-mentioned optimistic slant, likable characters, and a minimal reliance on dark conspiracies. (Just a really awful president making really awful decisions.) I don't recall any profanity in the story, and it didn't have long and tedious descriptions of equipment. The cons of this book are that is has some typos (although there aren't enough to distract from the story) and it is somewhat unrealistic in its level of optimism. I don't enjoy gritty realism, but this story could have made the challenges the characters faced a little tougher.
A very good storyline that is full of many truths as well as some farfetched scenarios. A little wrought but a great start for someone I believe to be a new author.
I really enjoyed the story line and the characters. I even enjoyed the dog. The thought of pre-preparing a bunker is a good idea and pretty cool. The story goes fast and I always looked forward to the next chapter. The writing style is stiff and stilted. There are no contractions in the language. Words like “Do Not” “Will Not” “Can Not” are reminiscent of a person whose primary language isn’t English. I don’t know of any natural English speakers who talk like that. It is like someone learning the English language and is focused on using the right words and not having an easy conversation. I hope this author writes another book. I do like the way his imagination works.
The story was a good one but it was difficult to read. The writing was very stilted. The author used very few contractions which made for an odd read in this day and age. The story read like someone was narrating a day in the life of an average person.
This was a wonderful, heartwarming story story. I would certainly recommend it to anyone , especially young adults. Kudos to Mr. Bosak! I look forward to reading more of his work.
Thus is just a nice, enjoyable book. The writing isn't elegant, but it tells a straightforward story about a strong family surviving during a financial collapse. There are many lessons in this book for everyone.
I just finished the preview. I had to force myself to get through that. It is not engaging enough to purchase in order to read the rest. I agree with another reader who said it was "too much telling, not enough showing." There was much more not to like about the writing, but I don't have it in me to go into detail. My recommendation is to skip this one.
Great story. This book will be on my mind for a long time and I read a lot of books. The dialogue was a little to formal sometimes but the storyline made up for it.
Nice to read a story of good people offering help as needed, taking care of their neighbors. Not sure I would trust politicians to clean up their own mess.
The story isn't bad, but the characters need deeper development. The dialog is too stilted. I just don't believe country people speak like that. Keep trying.
