Quicksilver: The Autobiography of Marie Rambert

Rate this book
Marie Rambert, who died in 1982 at the age of 94, is justly regarded as the mother of British ballet. Her acclaimed autobiography is a fascinating personal record of a life crowded with activity and achievement. It is also a sparkling portrait of the world of dance and the legendary figures with whom she worked: from Diaghilev, Nijinsky and Karsavina to Frederick Ashton and Alicia Markova. Herself a legend, Marie Rambert's contribution to her art has been immense and her autobiography is a magnificent testament to a remarkable life.

This is such an interesting read for everyone who is interested in ballet and dance. I would have even liked to have heard more from her, more details, more stories. She does go through her entire life and work, and is clearly one of the remarkable dancer the world has seen. She transformed dance and was way ahead of her time.

Purely remarkable.
