Serenity Stalked, the pulse-pounding second installment of the Shelby Alexander Thriller Series, takes you on a journey into the twisted mind of a terrifying predator. The stakes are higher than ever before, as Shelby fights to bring the killer to justice and protect his community from the horrors of a serial killer's reign of terror. With non-stop action, heart-stopping suspense, and a protagonist that will leave you on the edge of your seat, this book is a must-read for fans of thrillers.

Another fast paced thriller featuring Shelby Alexander from Craig A. Hart. Yes, please!
SERENITY STALKED (The Shelby Alexander Thriller Series Book 2) has everything you want in an action packed, short, intense and tightly plotted thriller. In this second book, a serial killer has made his way to small town Serenity to make an anonymous kill and move on, until he sees Carly.
Shelby’s girlfriend, Carly asks him to deliver a message to an ex-boyfriend to quit texting her. The message is delivered, but then the ex-boyfriend, his wife and baby are all found murdered the next day. Shelby is seen leaving the home and an anonymous caller tells Sheriff Wilkes he can find the knife that killed them in Shelby’s storage shed. Since no love is lost between these two, Wilkes is ready to lock Shelby up.
True crime writer, Quinn Edwards warns Shelby of his impending arrest and tells him to get lost and she will help with the case. Believe her or not, Shelby goes, but Carly won’t leave with him and this is just what the killer is waiting for.
This is a quick read that you will want to finish in one sitting. As with Mr. Hart’s first Shelby book, all of the characters are fully fleshed. Shelby is a great lead character with wisdom, strength he has realized is changing with his age and his own moral code. I am looking forward to many more adventures featuring Shelby.
Serenity is small town, just perfect for this born to kill serial killer. But didn't strong character like Shelby Alexander lived there. Be prepared to read about real gross murders.
“Humans were stupid creatures, petty and vindictive”. Shelby gets embroiled in another crime in his supposedly tranquil town Serenity. As always, full of fun and sarcastic and witty dialogue, action packed and thrills, a great crime character, with all his flaws is pitied. I love Shelby’s friends! Another great thriller!
Shelby continues to step in it and finds himself in the middle of a bad situation. There was a pretty good twist at the end. I enjoy the banter between Shelby and his friends.
This book is the second book in The Shelby Alexander Thriller series. I will be reading book 1 of this series and any others that exist. Shelby Alexander is a retired fighter. He moved to a small town in the middle of nowhere called Serenity. This is equivalent to calling a 7 foot man Shorty. Very little serenity exists. A Fixer is Shelby Alexander’s second career. A serious problem falls in his lap so to speak. This incident begins a snowball of crime and death. Nothing is obvious in this book. I had no problem following this book but I can't wait to read the first book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I would like to thank the author, Craig A. Hart, for introducing me to this addictive series.
When a couple are brutally murdered, crooked sheriff Wilkes is only too keen to point the accusing finger towards Shelby Alexander, ex-boxer and retired fixer..

| My Thoughts |
Shelby Alexander is back in this second instalment in the Serenity series – and he still knows how to handle himself! I love this character, his stubbornness, and how the author has created his protagonist with his cool exterior that betrays nothing of his inner turmoil and insecurities. Begrudgingly, he follows his daughter’s health advice, his daughter who is pregnant, by the way, and would love for her parents to reconcile. But the other woman is a magnet to Shelby, his lovely girlfriend Carly with whom he is very happy. Again, his world is turned upside down when a killer comes to Serenity – again he faces not only a ruthless murderer but also the crooked Sheriff, Wilkes. This is a fast-paced, enjoyable thriller I read in one session as it was too good to put down!
Craig A. Hart delivers another fast-paced, captivating thriller with Serenity Stalked. This time around, Shelby’s feisty girlfriend, Carly, is the target of a serial killer . . . but the killer may have bitten off more than they can chew. As with Hart’s other books, I read this in one day, and it didn’t disappoint!
Shelby is an ex boxer in his 50s who moves back to his quiet home town in ?upper michigan? He has a bit of a dodgy past.
Things Ensue.
I’m liking the ongoing nature of the story. For instance there is a character who you can’t yet tell is a goodie or a baddie. And like life, the various relationships and whatnot are always in process.
Shelby Alexander is still wonderful, the others still good. And the story interesting, though Quinn was no actual surprise.
Having just "read" book 1 as an audiobook, I missed Theo Holland's narration. But I did hear him a few times in my mind, especially as I read Alexander's lines.
Am glad book three is on it's way, for yes, still want more.
This story picks up soon after the conclusion of the first book in the series. The same major characters are back and are more fully developed as the story unfolds. Instead of drug dealers, the antagonist in this story is a serial killer who becomes fixated on Shelby’s girlfriend, Carly. This is another of Mr. Hart’s fast-paced, action-packed thrillers but this one has, in my opinion, a creepier vibe to it given the insights into the mind of the killer stalking Carly. Like the first book in the series, this is a novella which can be read/listened to in one sitting if desired. One thing of curious note to me is that the e-book versions of these stories both have some coarse language, but the audio version of both stories seem to have been rewritten replacing a variety of curse words with the f-word. There were cases in which the substitution seemed fitting to the circumstances but other times I thought the original wording was more suitable to the situation (and less repetitive). It is a small thing but seemed noticeable when reading along with the audio version. This story did have a great hook at the end to compel readers to continue with the series, but the major conflict of the story is resolved so I would not call it a true cliffhanger ending. Regardless, this is another gripping story to thrill and entertain enthusiasts of this genre.
While I did purchase a copy of this book, the author gifted me with a code for the audio version and the above is my honest and unbiased review.
Serenity Stalked (Sweatshoppe Publications 2017) is the second in Craig Hart's Shelby Alexander series (here's my review of Book One). Shelby is a retired former boxer who now earns his money 'fixing' problems for people in the small rural town of Serenity Michigan. As he creates a new life for himself after a divorce and tries to develop a relationship with his adult daughter, he also finds he is pretty good at solving crimes. In this story, a serial killer has settled in Serenity and chooses as an early victim the married ex-boyfriend of Shelby's girlfriend. The town sheriff -- no friend of Shelby's -- is happy to pin the murder on Shelby, considering him the jealous new boyfriend. Shelby scoffs at that until the murder weapon shows up hidden on his property. Things go from bad to worse when the murderer picks his new victim, this one closer to Shelby's heart.
What makes this more than a traditional murder mystery is the main character, Shelby Alexander. He's older, calmly confident that he knows who he is, and doesn't rattle easily (or at all). This is a man I could enjoy being around.
Overall, a wonderful read, cleverly plotted, with just enough tension that I couldn't stop reading. Keep it up, Craig Hart!
This is the second book in the series. It takes place in Northern Michigan. There is a serial killer in town. This serial killer is the definition of waste of oxygen.
Shelby is awesome again! He is the type of men you would want to have to drink with. You do not have to read the series in order. However, I recommend reading them in order. Why? “This could be the start of a beautiful friendship." - Humphrey Bogart - Casablanca 🇺🇸🎗
Craig A. Hart once again doesn't disappoint with this action packed novel. Shelby's character grows stronger in this book, as does Carly, Shelby's girlfriend. The way this book is written really sucks the reader in.
Serenity Stalked by Craig A. Hart is the second novel in the “Shelby Alexander” series. I looked forward to this sequel because I enjoyed the first novel in the series, Serenity, a lot. I reviewed it at https://ron877.com/2018/05/14/a-noisy.... Serenity had lots of action and several subplots. I gave it four Amazon stars. This second novel didn’t keep up as far as pacing, action, and plot complexity. Although a good story, it does not motivate me to read another novel in the series. Serenity Stalked impressed me as a linear story going from beginning to conclusion without interesting conflicts or subplots. I gave this novel two Amazon stars but will read at least one more to see if the author recovers the quality writing I saw in the first novel.
Smith is a serial killer just for the fun of it; he likes killing for its own sake, not for a sexual urge and not for money although he was not averse to taking money as a distraction so that police would look for a robber. Smith’s killings are taking place over shorter periods of time and he realizes it. After his most recent killing of the Blair family; man, woman, and child, Smith decided to move on. Then he saw his next target. He was fascinated by the fashion sense she displayed as she walked into a bar. He followed her into a bar and discovered Carly worked in the bar. Carly had a boyfriend, the significantly older Shelby Alexander.
Shelby’s home was the town of Serenity. He had run away from home in his youth, lived a full life which included a failed marriage, a grown married and pregnant daughter who was beginning to like Shelby enough to establish a father/daughter relationship and finally, Shelby had returned to Serenity to live a life full of relaxation and alcohol. His life became very exciting in the first novel which ended in a fast-paced shootout. He had managed to irritate the local sheriff, a person Shelby believed to be a political appointee with ties to the local drug trade. Sheriff Wilkes considered it his mission to remove Shelby from the community, possibly by relocating him to a prison after proving Shelby guilty of a crime.
We have a serial killer who has selected a target, Shelby’s girlfriend. We have a sheriff who wants to get rid of Shelby. We have an unsolved crime. Could it be that criminal Smith, whom we know to be the killer, might try to frame Shelby for the murder of the Blair family and even better, the planned murder of Carly? With the situation set, the story plays out in an expected manner.
The story is good from a technical point of view. It is the predictability that left me unsatisfied. I look for a plot that challenges me more than the one in this novel. I know the killer from page one. Before the 50% point of the book, I know every character’s plan. It is as if I were putting a puzzle together with each of the pieces numbered so I couldn’t make a mistake when choosing the next piece.
This novel sells for USD 2.99 but is free to read with Kindle Unlimited which is how I read it. If I had paid the full price, I would have tried to return it. I will try one more novel from the series, Serenity Avenged, to see if the writer recovers the style I saw in the first novel. If not, I will abandon the story at the magic 50% point.
This is the second Shelby Alexander thriller I’ve read and I remain steadfastly intrigued by Craig A. Hart. So, let’s meet Shelby Alexander, a former professional boxer nearing sixty who is thirty years older than his girlfriend, Carly. Carly needs her ex-boyfriend, James Blair to stop sending her text messages after she finds out he’s married with a child. She asks Shelby to deliver her message, but soon thereafter, James, his wife and child are murdered. This is where the story gets intriguing with Smith, the killer who wields the murder weapon…a knife with expertise.
Smith has a system where he watches his victims and learns their routines before he strikes. He stays in small towns long enough to commit a murder, make it look like a burglary gone wrong, and then he moves on to stay ahead of the authorities. He kills frequently to keep the high he feels when he’s done. This time he is in the small town of Serenity in Michigan. A place where he didn’t expect to hang around after killing the Blairs. A place where he didn’t expect to fall for his “soulmate” – Carly. This presents a problem because Smith will have to get rid of Shelby and Carly too if she doesn’t fall in line with being his soulmate.
Shelby has a lot to contend with as it relates to Smith and protecting the ones he loves. Then there’s Sheriff Wilkes who desperately wants to pin the Blair murders on him. These two dislike each other and their interactions are always tense. There’s also Quinn Edwards, a true crime novelist who is new in town and doing research for a new book. However, Shelby is not sure he can trust her.
Overall, this was a quick and intriguing read. I enjoyed the storyline, the fast pacing of the novel, the witty and sarcastic dialogue, the well-developed characters, their motivations, and their backstories. Hart did a great job getting into the mindset of Smith and unfolding his backstory giving readers the explanation for his actions and subsequent demise. I also loved seeing the softer side of Shelby now that he will be a grandfather soon but Helen, his ex-wife may have an ulterior motive during this time. Perfect set up for the next novel in the addictive series. Two thumbs up!
Some of my favorite lines:
“It’s a solid effort. Look, you don’t have to tell him you’re my boyfriend. Say you’re a friend and I want him to stop contacting me. Tell him I’m threatening to print out the text message archives and send them to his wife.” “You mean business.” “Will you do it?” “Carly—” “Aren’t you supposed to be some kind of fixer? Isn’t this what you do?” “My efforts are generally preceded by large sums of cash.” “I’m a little broke right now.” Carly lowered her voice and adopted the little rasp he found so appealing. “But if you must be mercenary, I could probably think of some way to cover your fee.” “Naughty girl.” “Do me this favor and you’ll find out how naughty.”
Night at Key West - While not in the same ballpark as the Shelby series and lots better than the Assignment series, this is a good start to a new series. Set in 1937 and using real background material, Mr. Hart weaves a substantially interesting and partly humorous story. All the characters are interesting, quirkly in some cases, but all hold the reader's interest, along with their realistic dialog. The story lines are entertaining and well thought out; yes, there are a few kinks, but the story moves along at a good pace. Key West has always been interesting during this time period and Mr. Hart keeps that interest going with this story. 5*
Serenity series: Serenity #1 - A great read. A well written, action packed suspense story that draws you in and doesn't let go until you've finished the book. The characters range from likable to despicable, all believable and make you respond to them. 5*
Serenity Stalked #2 - Fast paced but a cliffhanger. A well written suspense, darker than Serenity, heavy with vulgar language. The plot and characters keep you reading until the end. Rather short in length and a cliffhanger ending, although this subject of this story is complete. In the Serenity series, the author has some real doozies for villains for the main characters to fight. 5*
Serenity Avenged #3 - Dark but complete. A well written, but dark, suspense that grabs you and doesn't let go. Surprisingly light with the vulgar language, Serenity Stalked had too much, but contained the darkness found in the short stories of The Girl Who Read Hemingway. If you like one of these books, you'll like the other. The darkness was not graphic. Although picks up where S. Stalked ended, this novel has closure. 5*
Serenity Submerged #4 - Fast paced story. Another well written, action packed suspense story that keeps you reading until the story ends, which was all too soon. The characters are believable and real, and the twisting plot is riveting. I haven't been disappointed with any of the author's books that I've read so far. 5*
Serenity Engulfed #5 – Another dynamic addition to the Serenity Family. Another well written, fast paced, suspense filled novel with our favorite characters Shelby and Mack and some not so favorite; but without them there’s no intriguing book to read. There’s a new sheriff in town and she and Shelby are learning to play nice together, with Mack’s help. The ending makes me wonder what kind of trouble Shel and Mack will face in the future. I contacted the author to review his books and have enjoyed them all. 5*
I contacted the author to review his books after reading the first two books of the Serenity Series. Serenity series: End.
Serenity Stalked (The Shelby Alexander Thriller Series Book 2) By: Craig A. Hart 5 out of 5 stars
The story Serenity Stalked (The Shelby Alexander Thriller Series Book 2) by Craig A. Hart is a serial killer/crime book. A cold-blooded killer is leaving a trail of bodies across the country, then he comes to Serenity. The local media is demanding answers. Sheriff Wilkes, a crooked young lawman, targets Shelby Alexander whose only crime is being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Shelby moves quickly to clear his name, even as the killer is moving onto his next victim, and this one is personal.
The second book in the Shelby Alexander series is amazing. You have the same old Shelby, who takes the word sarcasm to the next level, his girlfriend who he dearly loves, and a whole cast of other characters that make this a book not to miss. The plot centers around a serial killer, the murder that he commits, and the race to catch him. When you have a crooked Sheriff in town it is not far-fetched that the wrong person may be accused. The fear and anxiety is high and you will find yourself on pins and needles. This is one series that I would recommend to anyone who loves a good mystery with plenty of action and suspense. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.
While he's still healing up from his run in with the local, redneck drug cartel, Carley asks Shelby to "talk to" a former boyfriend who's been harassing her by text. When the man, his wife and baby all end up knifed to death a few hours after Shelby's visit he's the obvious suspect, particularly to the local law. Clearing his name and protecting Carley from a home invading stalker keep him busy through this second Serenity story. I fell in love with Shelby Alexander in the first book of this series. He's an aging former boxer who drinks too much, doesn't exercise enough , is well past his prime and readily admits it. In spite of all that, he can still kick ass and take names when the need arises but he's not afraid to use his brains and his charm to avoid that if he can. As a hero, he's somebody those of us on the down side of 40 can connect with and appreciate. If you're a fan of slightly long in the tooth, touch as nails, smart mouthed gumshoes, you'll love this story as much as I did.
I received a free copy of this book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Shelby Alexander hoped to find peace in Serenity, Minnesota. But he didn’t. A deranged serial killer has invaded his town, which is bad. But even worse, he has invaded Shelby’s world. Carly, his girlfriend, is in grave danger. She has become the next target of the killer. When Carly disappears, Shelby jumps into action.
In his inimitable way, Shelby puts the clues together with the help of Quinn, a true crime writer, and realizes Carly is in trouble. Together, they go after the killer. If you accept Shelby as he is, you know he is not always at the top of his game. In this book Quinn comes through for him and kills the killer.
That is precisely part of what I enjoy about these books. While Shelby is a hero, he is also human, and his emotions sometimes get the better of him. Thank goodness for Quinn.
Audible. Also available via KU & whispersync discount.
This is the second book in the Shelby Alexander series and an enjoyable addition.
A serial killer is hunting in Serenity and his moves leave Shelby Alexander under suspicion for murder. Once the killer realizes the focus is on Shelby, he plots to frame him even further. This isn't really a mystery per se as the killer has nearly as many chapters as Shelby does, but there is enough action and intrigue to keep the listener engaged. It's a quick listen and I enjoyed it.
Theo Holland continues to be an excellent choice for this book. He sounds like how I imagine a 50+ former bad boy but trying to just get some peace and quiet man should sound. He gave all the characters unique voices and his accents were nice without being comical. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more from him.
I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the second book in this series and they need to be read in order. Shelby is back and of course trouble is near. This time a serial killer has found his way to Serenity and has his sights set on Carly, Shelby’s girlfriend. Sheriff Wilkes thinks Shelby is the killer and of course isn’t willing to hear any different. This book has danger and mystery. I liked this book just as much as the first. I picked them up at a book signing I attended. Craig was a new to me author but who doesn’t love a little mystery. These books are a little different. The man character, Shelby is an older man who has had more than one career in his life and is now ready to relax and has moved back to the town he grew up in. Shelby is quite the character and I can’t get enough of him. Trouble seems to follow Shelby. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
Our second look into the life of Shelby Alexander finds him in a crazy and dangerous situation yet again. This time a serial killer is stalking victims in the not so serene Serenity. The shady sheriff thinks Shelby is the killer so he has to avoid the police while hunting down the actual killer. This was a quick read that kept me entertained. I enjoyed the alternating between the point of view of Shelby and the point of view of Smith, the killer. It was an interesting touch, and kept things even more interesting. As with the first book in the series, things got really wild and crazy in the last 20% or so of the book and I couldn’t stop. And of course, like in the first book, Mr. Hart ended on a cliff hanger that makes me want more. Looking forward to the next book!
I received a free Audible download from the author.
A cold-blooded killer has blazed a trail of dead bodies across the country, with no one to stand in his way...until he starts killing on Shelby Alexander's home turf: the small Michigan town of Serenity. A killer with a trail of dead bodies has come to Serenity, seeking to slake his thirst for death. As the first unspeakable murder shocks the sleepy Michigan town, the local media demands answers. Sheriff Wilkes, the crooked young lawman, targets Shelby Alexander, whose only crime is being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Shelby moves quickly to clear his name, even as the killer closes in on his next victim…and this time it's personal.
SERENITY SERENITY STALKED SERENITY AVENGED SERENITY SUBMERGED The Shelby Alexander Thriller Series: Books 1-4 {not ku}
Be sure to read the first book in this series as it explains some events that happened previously that won't make sense. A crazed mass murder has been committing crimes across the country and ends up Serenity but after a successful killing of a family he set his sights on Alexander's girlfriend Carly. Of course, Alexamder is not going to just stand by but pro-actively goes off to investigate after damning evidence in the form of a murder weapon shows up in his storage shed. He knows he is being set up but because of issues with the sheriff, is being looked at as a suspect. Help comes from a surprising person and the book ends on a high note and Alexander gets his man.
Serenity Stalked (The Shelby Alexander Thriller Series Book 2) , my fifth read from author Craig A. Hart. Being a Michigander I'm attracted to all books Michigan and this one just whet my appetite for more in this series & by this author, since I own twenty-nine books by him that won't be a problem. I was given a Kindle copy of this book back in 2017 but never got around to reading it until now & am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to my next read from this author, Serenity Avenged (The Shelby Alexander Thriller Series Book 3) . (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Serenity Stalked is the story of a serial killer who stalks his victims, learns their everyday patterns and then strikes and kills them. This time he fell in love with his next victim, who just happens to be Shelby's girlfriend, Carly. Luckily Carly is streetwise and suspects this guy. He lures her by telling her Shelby is hurt. From there it is non-stop stop action. Shelby still has problems with Serenity's sheriff. Read to find out more about Shelby's daughter, Leslie and his exwife. A quick and enjoyable read.
Shelby Alexander is trying to enjoy his retirement when Carly, his much younger girlfriend ask him to speak to a man she was involved with until finding out he was married. The same day Shelby talked to him, he and his entire family are murdered. Shelby is framed for the murder and Carly is put in danger also.
Craig Hart has a series on his hands that is a great read with lots of tension, well developed characters and a plot line that doesn't slow down.
I've read several of the Serenity series and I'm loving them! You can read them in any order, although you understand Shelby's relationship with his daughter more if you read them in order. Serenity is a small town in northern Michigan that begins to see it's share of crime in this series. A horrible murder of a man and his family has Sheriff Wilkes wanting to put the blame on Shelby. This is a great thriller mystery and I definitely recommend it!
Anything by this author. I'm not a fan of getting into the killers head and hearing what they are thinking. Especially this one. There were pages after page of his thoughts. I ended up skipping those. I also thought there was too much description, of the killings. Especially with killing the baby too. It was good but I think it could have been better. Age difference doesn't usually bother me, but 30 years was too much. I do recommend this book.
