This book was interesting. Rather fast paced in the sense that, at least to me, some details got glossed over. The h/H had a bit of a delayed insta-love which wasn't horrible but how they could love each other in such a short span (literally days) with only a few interactions, and nothing so heavy enough to create a bond or connection so quickly to make them feeling that deeply for another rational. The characters were both likeable. The plot was a little predictable, but still held my interest.

The heroine Ava had a bunch of different sides to her. Not exactly a good thing since she appeared strong, opinionated and confident. Her handing out the snark to Flynn was entertaining. But she seemed to flop around with those characteristics a few times. And the conflict of her feelings for Flynn and her loyalty to avenging her father and getting answers just didn't read across as emotional enough for something like that.

Flynn was a bit of the same with his characteristics too. He flipped around quite a bit from arrogant gangster who was quite a bit of a asshole to his "brothers" to being all mushy sweet for Ava. I'm all for a sweeter side to my heroes but it also just didn't ring as true. I'm not sure which personality felt more genuine on Flynn but I think him being a big mushy teddy bear for Ava felt more real. Which is quite funny now that I think on it considering he was supposed to be this big bad gangster but it never rang totally true.

This is merely my opinion. I've read quite a few mafia/mob books before, and not all of them great. But this one, albeit a decent read, didn't ring as genuine as it should've or didn't flesh out aspects or emotions more when I think they should have. The story itself wasn't very deep as far as depth of emotion or writing goes. Not to say the writing was bad because it wasn't bad. It was pretty okay. Just more of a light read compared to other similar books I've read in this genre.

Still not a bad book. A bit tame and at least to me, easy to forget but worth checking out for those who would like a little bit of fluffy love to their bad boy without all the gruesome violent details.

This did not work for me. If I do not care for the heroine, then it is hard for me to connect to teh story.

The prologue was written so well that I thought "this is the one that is going to get me out of my reading blah", but no.
Ava is a fed and her actions seemed to unprofessional. The story when from potential to me rolling my eyes.

You may love this one, but it did not work for me. Reading is subjective. This is my opinion.

*Very mild spoilers*

As much as I was hoping to, I couldn't get into this book. The premise was intriguing enough. The opportunity was there. However, a number of thing set me off early on.

Foremost, I'm rather particular about writing styles, and this one was just not my brew. It was so full of redundant verbiage and inconsistent accents that any interest which started to bloom constantly hit a brick wall. Too much filler, not enough depth.

Also, the insta-love didn't bother me, but O'Brien's lack of caution as the syndicate's head did. Personally, it seems one of such position would have all kinds of specs on this girl before getting so involved. Especially since she was a fed running in and out of a police department daily. Someone in the syndicate should definitely have caught on sooner. (Being FBI trained, she is just as much to blame for lack of effective undercover work, though. Large metropolis be damned, an entity like the Irish mob would have more than enough connections to know.)
There was a distinct lack of bad-ass mobster for me as well. He more came off as emotionally unstable and simply trigger happy.

Yet, considering the rating and reviews it is receiving, it appears I'm probably being a bit nit-picky.

Too short. Like waaaaay too short. Good story but it ends at 39%. Then, lots of promo for other books by the author...Then, another book from the author begins.

Aaand im going to leave this right here, because I dont want to rant, but to me...that is not the way to do it. I expected otherwise.

BTW, i am reading the next book in the series. But please dont do this again.

I enjoyed the characters, and their chemistry, and the writing was good. However, the villain was pretty obvious from the start, and the fact that both Ava and Flynn were lying from the second they met, it all made for an anticlimactic and underwhelming ending.

Good story. Loved Ava's character. Flynn wasn't so bad either. He was a big softie under the hard mafia type. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Bought an ebook version of this. I was sold by the cover also the words "Irish Mafia"

I am sucker for these types of books. I was a bit surprise, when I read the first few chapters, that the girl is an FBI Agent. I haven't encountered a mafia romance novel that the heroine is a Fed. Still it was an interesting twist for me.

Okay at first I had a feeling that the girl went deep undercover to meet the guy but as I read along, here I thought 'Oh she doesn't know and he doesn't. Wow this will be fun." Silly right?

In the end the girl really set up to meet the guy on her own but didn't expect to fall in love to such a sweet guy. *sigh* My logical side was screaming at me "this is not real!!!" I know it's not real or illogical to happen but a girl can dream right?

So before I read the end of the book, I expected a series of scenarios on how this will end. Since the girl is a Fed so it's expected she will go AWOL, it would be different if she weren't a fed but still you can guess another scenario.

Hey the main hero is the head of an organized crime so going AWOL or in hiding is pretty much a yes if they're totally on the deep end.

Will give this 4 stars, it satisfied my cravings a bit.

This story had great potential but I don’t feel it was well-executed. At the top of the story, the heroine was portrayed as a tough, no-nonsense FBI agent, but in every scene after the opener, she never displayed those traits again. Not even in her own inner-monologue. In the situations where she could have logically displayed her training and skill-set as a seasoned field agent, her words/actions/characteristics were comparable to that of a scared civilian. Her personality while undercover was so bland/non-existent to the point where it was hard to see how the hero could fall in love with her (and so quickly) beyond the motivation of just her physical beauty.

I found it odd that the mob head / hero would not take a second to investigate the woman he was interested in romantically, even as a quick safety measure. All he had to do was follow her ONCE from her home to her work to see that she was walking into a Chicago Police Station and was interacted with as a ranking officer within that precinct.

I had high hopes for this one, but the details of the mob business were way too drawn-out & repetitive, the romance did not feel earned, the couple’s dialogue lacked intelligent banter, and the respective professions of the hero couple did not ring true to me/come across authentically. I liked Flynn’s personality and the story’s initial scenario, but that’s about it.

Dirty liar

This is another one of those books that has a very Happy Ever After, and it was an exciting read.Flynn is a mobster who meets Ava when she comes into his dive bar and he tries to impress her. Flynn is handsome, with his little boyish grin, and Ava is a very nice looking woman who is not the usual bar fly. They date but neither is willing to tell each other their past. A cop who is undercover and a mobster who deals with things illegally such as guns. And Ava doesn't want to be another notch on his belt. There's also a snitch who manages to force them to deal with their issues and puts their love on the line. Ava is smart, sexy, and stands behind him when it counts. This is so different from KB's other books but it is a definite read, I give it 5 ✨. Awesome book

An Irish mobster and a fed walk into a bar.... and sparks fly! There's definitely a sweet side to Flynn and a saucy side to Ava. Love the accidents and all the Irishness. This book had a lot of suspense and action and sexiness and LOVE. I loved the teaser for an upcoming book at the end too.
I received an arc.

So, I don't understand why so many people are hating on this book. I really enjoyed it. Although I knew it was short going into it so maybe thats a reason people are rating it so low? The author wrote a little note at the beginning saying that the book ends at 40% and that there was a bonus book after that, which was Knight Move: The Complete Collection. And I absolutely loved that series so I felt like I got a lot for my money. And I enjoyed both stories so I just don't understand why there are so many one and two star ratings.

This story is about a mobster, Flynn and an FBI agent Ava. Flynn meets Ava and is taken with her almost right off the bat. He can tell immediately that she is a good girl and is attracted to that quality and when he realizes she doesn't recognize him as the Irish mob boss, he tells her his name is Ian and pretends to be the man he thinks she deserves. Little does he know that Ava does in fact know exactly who he is, and that she sought him out specifically because he was the boss of the Syndicate.

Regardless of the secrets they keep from each other, they have an undeniable connection. Flynn craves Ava's sweetness and the peace her presence always gives him. While Ava comes to see a side of Flynn she didn't expect to find when she set out to meet him. She knew him to be ruthless and dangerous, but with her he's gentle and sweet.

I do wish there was a little more relationship development. They didn't really spend very much time together before their feelings had escalated to what they considered love. Most of their interactions were just quick little meals they had together, I thought there should have been more time spent together doing something other than a quick dinner or lunch, for their feelings to be that strong so quickly.

I was start out by saying that I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I started reading this book. I was taken on an adventure that I didn't see coming. In this book you just didn't know who you could trust and who you couldn't. Being in the Irish Mob you have to think that you can count on your brothers and that they will always have your back. Let's just say in this book you would be wrong.

Flynn O'Brien had to see things at such a young age. He didn't grow up being mean. Well at least I don't think so. I have to be honest and say that I have a crush on him. He wants to still believe that family is everything and that he can always count on them. It's just too bad for him that he has a snitch in his mist and meeting Ava might not be the best thing for him either.

Ava is in the FBI and is after the Irish mob because of what happened to her father. She never meant to get as close as she did. Seems that when the heart wants someone you have no say so and it makes up your mind for you.

Both of these two are keeping secrets and let me tell you that I didn't want to see what would happen when they came to light. I really enjoyed all the excitement in this book and I can't wait to read the next one.

I received a copy of this book in place of an honest review.

Spectacular read...Flynn O'Brien is rich, confident, mafia boss and sexy as hell. Being the head of the O'Brien syndicate is something that he never asked for but was obligated to do since his father started it from the ground up. Being that his father is now dying of cancer and tucked away, Flynn is the man everyone looks to in making the decisions that are best for their family. Doing business with the Russians is risky but very profitable and things are not going as smooth as they should. Being Irish, going to a bar to unwind and have a few beers or glasses of whiskey is a normal thing. Then Ava walks in... She knows who he is but doesn't say, He doesn't know who she is but deosn't tell her who he is. Can a Mafia boss and an FBI agent make it in this world? Can you always count on family? Do lies really tear people apart or is there forgiveness? Well I can tell you, when you read this book all your questions will be answered and you will not want to put it down. This book will keep you at the end of your seat wanting more and rooting for people that you may not have in the beginning. Wish for relationships that you may not have ever thought would work out in the end. This is a must read and totally worth your money and time....

I am voluntarily writing this review.
KB Winters is a new author to me. I really enjoyed this book and will definitely read more books by this author.
This is a story about two people who's lives were forever changed by the Irish syndicate. Flynn's mother was killed by police and Ava's father was killed by the syndicate.
Both chose a different route to deal with their childhood tragedies. Flynn takes over the syndicate. Ava becomes an FBI agent who specializes in the mafia.
When these two people meet they both choose to keep deep secrets from the other. As they begin a relationship they realize that maybe there is more to the person than what meets the eye. Flynn lies about who he is (Ian) and Ava lies about who she really is and why she wants to get close to him.
This story flows nicely. The Irish dialogue is not difficult to understand. You get a chance to understand Flynn and Ava's characters and you do wish them well even though you realize that both have done things they shouldn't have done.
This book will appeal to anyone who likes mafia romance or even just a good romance.
I can't wait for Aidan's story.

After the murder of her father, Ava vows to get the answers to why it happened. When Flynn was a little boy the cops murdered his mother while serving a warrant for his father. Now part of the FBI, Ava is determined to take Flynn down and get the answers to all her questions, but neither was prepared for the instant attraction or love they feel for each other. Will they be able to overcome the past their fathers created? Will they be able to forgive each other for the lies told?

This was a great book and it had everything I look for when looking for a mafia romance: blood, hot sex, and love. I liked how they were both willing to forgive each other for the lies they told and how both were willing to protect the other at all cost when it came down to it! Excellent story and cannot wait for the next in the series and more from this author.

3/5 Stars

This book was pretty enjoyable. I loved the trauma bonding, and how their parents were basically the downfall of one another, creating tension. How he was the head honcho of a mafia (kinda? Look, he didn't really carry head honcho vibes, but it was there in the writing), and how she was the undercover cop hunting him down. How her obviously fake-sappy persona turned real, and how his idea of a one-nighter turned into an every-nighter.

But. . .
I can't really imagine myself picking this book up every again. It was enjoyable, but nothing to really brag about. So I've given it a nice rating of three stars. Fitting for an enjoyable experience I'll never see again.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This book is about Flynn, the Irish Mafia boss and Ava, the undercover federal agent looking for answers. They have an attraction. They have secrets. This story has all the elements of an incredible romance between two very unlikely people. The casual dating turns quickly to something more serious. Flynn and Ava begin to hope for a future together beyond their current lives. It just has some huge obstacles to overcome.

This is an exciting, action-packed story. The romance is so good between Flynn and Ava especially in the midst of the voilence and intesity that surrounds them. I recommend this book especially if you enjoy the mafia backdrop.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest voluntary review

I feel that this book is very face paced, but not so much that you don't get the necessary details. I like that there was a little time before they actually hooked up but hung out enough to crave eachother. I love that they both needed something from the other but didn't really understand it. She wanted answers and he wanted out.

Ava, strong personality, and characteristics however, when she was put under pressure, she always seemed a little too scared considering her job and upbringing.

Flynn, well he was just everything. he was sweet with ava but hard when he needed to be.

All in all i really enjoyed this book and do recommend others to read it as well. its very easy to get lost in, in a few hours.

"I knew the dangers I risked with Ian, but I couldn’t deny that I wanted to see just how far I could push him, even if I’d take the risk of drowning before I came back up for air."

I can't resist an Irish mafia romance, the accent gets me every time!! I didn't see this one happening or even ending the way it did, but it took you for a ride and didn't let you get a breath in until you reached the end. Secrets, lies, betrayal, long kept under wraps, and no one is as they seem. The tension and attraction is both forbidden and explosive, a wild ride full of danger and steam that you won't want to end!!

Put together one smart and tough redheaded Irish FBI Agent named Ava and one sexy alpha Irish mafia leader named Flynn and what do you get? A sexy, suspenseful mafia story by KB Winters. Ava's father was killed when she was young, and she has been seeking answers regarding his murder ever since. When she meets Flynn, the sparks fly. They both have secrets, though, and you just know things are gonna get crazy. And boy, do they!

I think this is KB's first mafia romance, and it's a great one. It's sexy, suspenseful and just gritty enough to keep the polish away. I can't wait for more of KB's mafia romances!

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I was hooked from the first page and couldn't put it down. This is the story of Flynn O'Brien and Ava, he's the leader of the Irish mob in Chicago and there is nothing he wouldn't do to protect his family and the syndicate. Ava is the FBI agent who wants to take him and the syndicate down. Their interaction is scorching hot and the chemistry is instantaneous. Will the secrets they keep from each other going to be their downfall? Can they have an HEA? You have to read it to know! A great read, that you shouldn't miss this year. The Luck of The Irish

For some anyway. If you like grit, shooting, useless killing, you'll love this story. As a true Irish woman, I find it funny like the author, that on St Patrick's Day, people of all races and nationality slip on green, drink green beer and believe they have a wee bit of Irish in them. Give them a shot of Jameson or Guinness and they're wining it's too strong or bitter. Overall story was well written. Proofreading had a few glitches. There's no cheating or cliffhanger and you get a happy ending. Enjoy!

A mob boss Romeo and a Fed Juliet

A good idea of a plot line for a forbidden mob romance. He's the boss of an Irish mob and she's the fed who wants to sent him to jail.
But I'm afraid the characters aren't strong enough for me to fall in love.
Her reason to get in "undercover" to approach him is reckless. His unknown of her lies for so long until the traitor point it out, is reckless and stupid for a mob boss.
Overall, I'll say great idea but the characters seems doesn't co-operate real good to build the story line.
