Before vampires, they were Guardians. Drinking the sacred blood of the Holy Grail, and sworn to protect it and the other sacred relics through the ages.
A small news report on the possible sighting of The Spear of Destiny, sends Gabriel, an Immortal Guardian, rushing to Vienna to uncover the truth. But the spear is already gone, and he is hot on the trail. The disappearance of Julia Barnes, noted expert on the spear, can not be a coincidence and it doesn’t take long for Gabriel to connect the two.
Together Gabriel and Julia must guard the spear from those that seek to use it for evil, including the terrifying ancient immortal who leaves a trail of death as he pursues them relentlessly to wield the most dangerous relic on earth. How can they stop a man who is impossible to kill and is willing to sacrifice thousands to possess the spear?
When the same plot advances through the novels, but each book has a nearly complete different cast of characters. This is the case with this series. There are some characters from the first novel who make short appearances in this one, but almost all the main characters of this novel are new, or were hit players in the previous book.
I rather like this approach to completing a long story arc; it emphasizes the fact that few great endeavours are accomplished by a single person. Teamwork is essential for us to make anything of enduring value and this type of story telling illustrates that universal truth quite well. The fact that this is a well written paranormal romance just makes the implications more subtle than other types of literature might.
This novel could be read as a stand alone book, but it would definitely give some spoilers on the preceding novel's plot, if read first, so would strongly recommend reading _Immortal Blood_ first.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first. I felt like this book and its characters were not as well developed as Lachlan and Ivy, but that is not to say that I was not still enthralled with Gabriel and Julia. I find the story line interesting and am looking forward to seeing exactly what Joseph and the Immortal are up too. Overall, I would recommend this book
Hot passion and fast paced fantasy. Un-put-downable! I'm a bit of a history nerd so this series is just brilliant. Packed with historical facts and yet total action adventure too. It's like the Da Vinci Code with Tomb Raider, if Lara Croft was into vampires.
I liked this book because it has a surprisingly romantic storyline. It seems to almost be a spy novel as the action heats up but the romance was great. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Enjoyed Book 2 as much as the first. Strong characters. Women who don't play games. So many of the heroines are fake, not able to make decisions and act like teens. Sure hope you do a book on the Guardians getting the Immortal.
This was a fun read. Gabriel has some very warped ideas about life and has generated cold. His last comes back to bite him and Julia is there for all of it. I do wish Julia had more backbone but she improves as the story goes on.
