Beyond: Volume Three

The final three books in the bestselling, award-winning BEYOND series!

BEYOND RUIN

Adrian Maddox fled his royal life—and tragic past—in Sector One, choosing instead to join up with the O’Kanes. For years, he’s lived by one rule: love fast, love hard, and always be willing to walk away. He’s managed to guard his heart, keep it whole and untouched—until now.

They couldn’t be more different—Dylan, the brilliant, burned-out doctor from Eden who drowns his pain with drugs and self-destruction. Scarlet, the sensuous, sexy rocker from Three, a woman unafraid to embrace the world. And Jade, the whore turned spy from Sector Two, who battled addiction and came out stronger than anyone he’s ever met.

Separately, they make Mad long to open his heart, to tumble head-first into a sea of possibilities and wild love. Together, they make him burn, inside and out, with lust and unbearable, unimaginable pleasure.

Then one fateful moment shakes their world to its foundations—and leaves the sectors on the verge of all-out war with Eden. It’s the biggest fight the O’Kanes have ever faced, and Mad and his lovers are at the dead center of it. They could end up with everything they never knew they wanted—or lose it all. Including their lives.

BEYOND ECSTASY

The O’Kanes have a reputation for working hard and playing harder—except for Hawk. He joined the gang with one goal: to ensure his family’s survival through the impending war with Eden. It’s been years since he had the luxury of wanting anything for himself. Now, he wants Jeni. From the first moment he saw her, he’s been obsessed with making her his. Not for a night—forever.

Jeni’s been lusting after the former smuggler for months, but he keeps shutting her down. She’s almost given up on getting him in her bed when he offers her the last thing she ever expected—a collar. Accepting it means belonging to him, body and soul. It’s a reckless gamble, but Jeni can’t resist the chance to slip under Hawk’s armor.

The only thing more shocking than the dark, dangerous pleasure they discover is how right it feels. But falling in love is even more reckless when forever is far from guaranteed. Because they aren’t just at war, they’re out of time—and every breath could be their last.

BEYOND SURRENDER

For years, Nessa has been focused on work. She keeps the whiskey—and the money—flowing, and life is sweet. Sure, she’s tired of being everyone’s baby sister, and she longs for a man who can stand up to her overprotective O’Kane brothers. But she never thought she’d meet him in the middle of a war.

War is all Ryder knows. He was raised with one goal: to ensure the sectors’ successful rebellion against Eden. His father and his mentor both died for freedom, and nothing will stop him from securing their legacies with victory. He doesn’t have time for distractions—especially beautiful, impulsive ones like Nessa.

Opposites don’t just attract, they combust. Together, Nessa and Ryder have a chance for something more than the lives they’ve always known. But this is war—deadly, bloody war—and the only way to happily-ever-after is straight through Eden.

Once upon a time, two best friends decided to write paranormal romance. And while that was awesome, they also sometimes wanted to write insanely dirty stuff that wasn’t paranormal at all. This is that stuff.

Kit Rocha is the dystopian-erotic-romance writing alter-ego of writing duo Moira Rogers.

Beyond series
By Kit Rocha

I found the first novel in my library e-reader application. I wasn’t sure about it because I don’t read many post-apocalyptic novels but I thought I would give it a try. Needless to say, I read as much of the series as I could get my hands on.

Beyond Shame
Beyond Control
Beyond Denial
Beyond Pain
Beyond Jealousy
Beyond Addiction
Beyond innocence
Beyond Ruin
Beyond Ecstasy
Beyond Surrender

The series is set in one of the last cities left in North America. The world went dark once and Eden is all that is left with electricity and tech since the futuristic city hadn’t gone online before the world went dark. Outside the self-righteous city walls are the sectors ruled by gangs. Where anyone can find any sin they seek. The first novel does an amazing job of introducing the world and the O’Kain empire of sector 4. You will love following the couples through their greatest trails against the city of Eden. As a bisexual woman, I found the bisexual element so well done. I would love to get some of the authors’ merch.

An Ending & A Beginning

OMG, this last set of books have done me in. Many happy moments, very intense moments and more that made me emotional. The characters are so endearing and relatable that you become attached. There are additional novels for offshoot characters that I must now read. I can't say enough about this series.

I am struggling with this review, because a lot of what I said in my review for the Beyond Series Bundle Volume 1 is true for the three bundles I am attempting to review here. The overarching themes of the series are freedom to determine your own life, freedom to love who you love, bodily autonomy – including consent and reproductive freedom, and over coming the many forms of toxic masculinity. All of this was present in the first bundle of books, and all of it continues to play out through the remaining books and novellas. The series, as a whole and in each piece, can be read for fun and as political act of resistance against the growing move to assert a white supremacist patriarchy. Happily ever afters are given to queers, people of color, sex workers, drug runners, drug addicts, bootleggers and bikers. They are all consenting adults who value found family.

To recap, or set the stage, or something: At some point in the future, A city is built that is designed to be self supporting and an oasis of goodness – Eden. Solar flares destroy the power grid in the United States and it descends into anarchy. Eden is, as I said in the previous review, “a city ruled the way the Christian Right would like – no premarital sex, no extramarital sex, women are wives or daughters, only the cis-gendered and straight are allowed.” Eden also has the super soldiers, the weapons and the technology. Surrounding the city are the Sectors where the factories and the sin live. The Sectors remember that Sector Three was bomb into oblivion when they started to get too pushy. The threat of being flattened by Eden hangs over the Sectors. As the books progress, the growing conflict between Eden and the Sectors becomes a more prominent story. Each book and novella is still a romance, but the looming war shapes the characters, their desires and obstacles.

The stories are intertwined, so though each book or novella focuses on a primary romantic relationship – 2, 3, or 4 people – you cannot skip around. But you can binge read them because they flow beautifully from one book to the next. As the series goes on, the stakes political get higher, and the sex gets a little quieter. It becomes more of an interlude than a focus, which is appropriate for the way the story grows.

Kit Rocha’s Beyond series has been one of my safe places this year. I’ve read all the books more than once and some more than others. I haven’t gone into any specifics because you should discover them for yourself. The characters you resonate with will be your own and not mine. I have my doubts that 2020 will be any better or less stressful than 2019 has been, and as I follow the threads to even more new authors, I will be coming back to Kit Rocha. For one thing they have a new book in a new series, Deal With the Devil, coming out next year. For another they continue to be smart and funny on Twitter.

I realize post apocalyptic erotic romance isn’t going to be everyone’s thing, but if it’s yours or you know someone who would like it, start with Beyond Shame and work your way forward.

This series really caught me: aside from the hot sex scenes, the characters are well built and memorable, each fighting their own demons and trying to find peace and happiness and love.

Sector Four at War

This KU library read is the culmination of the highly addictive erotic dystopian Beyond series. Each book in the series features an amorous relationship in a society that is set on survival and where the overarching storyline becomes the hook that kept this reader ensnared in a reading marathon that began with bundle one.
In book seven, Beyond Ruin, a menage a quatre forms even as Eden sends assassins into the sectors to take out the sector leaders. In book eight, Beyond Ecstasy, Eden attacks and sector six burns while Hawk and Jeni are taken, finding there are worse things in Eden than a quick death. In book nine, Beyond Surrender, fighters from the other sectors join with the O'Kanes for an all or nothing assault on Eden, while Nessa, the brains behind their distillery, falls hard for superspy Ryder, the new king of sector five, at a time when there are no guarantees of who will survive and who will fall.
This series has a follow-up, a spin-off series featuring the Riders from sector one. Book one is out and is a must read on the heels of the war. It looks like the marathon continues.

One of THE best series I have ever read

The end of this series is bittersweet. Kit is a very innovative and provocative writer. The characters( villains, heroes and heroines alike) are detailed and compelling. It super easy to write a book held together by a few raunchy, dirty, hot scenes. But, to have the not so sexy stuff evoke the feelings of joy, sadness and fear that it did is why I purchased the books instead of just borrowing them. The men in this series were so lifelike i could practically smell the leather and testosterone. If i could I would give her 10 stars!
