Disappointing

The story started off fast then can to a really slow pace. Someone broke into Kayla's office. She is a lawyer in a small town dealing with wills, divorces nothing criminal. So what would someone be looking for in her office? Out of nowhere Connor Throne shows up. Secret Service this is more serious than Kayla thought. She always had feelings for Connor when he was part of her father's protection detail. This story has murder, witness protection, women's shelter, bomb threat, hostages and more.

I've always enjoyed reading books by Lisa Phillips. However, as I read Security Detail, I had to double-check the book's author. I had to force myself to finish reading this book. The characters were flat. The plot was extreme. The dialogue was unbelievable for two professionals and filled with cliches. I will not be reading any more of the books in this series. I don't like writing negative reviews but I think readers should be warned.

Was it action-packed and entertaining? Yes. Were the characters well-developed ? Yes. Did the author balance high-tension scenes with some lower tension scenes? No.

This book kept you on the edge from the first page to the last page. There were no actual breaks in the tension. One thing after another happened to the characters from the start to the finish which took away from the romance thread since the couple didn't spend much time together without someone trying to kill them.

That said, I enjoyed the book.

I enjoyed the developing romance of the book, but toward the end, it felt like one slightly over the top thing after another just kept happening. One situation would be resolved and then they would immediately be thrown into another situation. It just wasn't my favorite.

Definitely a page turner. A (fictional) former first daughter and one of her former Secret Service agents get mixed up in a break and attempted murder. Both secretly struggle to figure out if three feelings they're feeling are really their or if it's just "hero worship" and duty-bound

This is the 1st book I read by Lisa Phillips. I'm sorry I stopped reading this story at chapter 3 because it didn't grab my interest.

Nonstop action in this one. Good plot. Lots of similarities from her other books. I haven’t read enough of her books to know if they are all as similar. I liked this one.

There is lots of action in a short amount of time in this book. If this was a true story how would anyone survive? But it all makes for an excellent story.

This is the first book in the Secret Service Agents Series. I love Lisa's books and this is an excellent example of her work. This book is well written, action packed, and full of faith. It doesn't get any better than that.
Former president's daughter Kayla Harris is a lawyer. She stops by her office late in the evening to find a file she must work on. When she enters she finds her office has been ransacked and someone is still in the building. Someone is out to destroy her. The man who once was her security detail, a man she secretly crushed on, comes to her rescue.
Undercover Secret Service Agent Conner Thorne hears the mobsters he is working with talking about going after Kayla. To save her he is going to have to come out hiding and take the risk of being killed himself. This is the girl he had once loved but she was to young to pursue. He must save her life and find out why they are after her.
A journey of two broken hearts struggling to survive the attacks of the violent head of the Bamir Family. God has a plan for these two. They may have given up on a future together but God hasn't.
God has a plan for you too. Just surrender your heart to Him and watch Him straighten out the mess you've made of your life. It will be much greater that you have dreamed of.

These books with the digital reader are far from good you have made a big mistake by not sinking the voices with the genders it makes the book very hard to understand . When the men have females visa vera. You are doing a big disservice to your authors and listeners. So this is a fail and should not be allowed to continue.

"In the latest installment of the Secret Service Agents series, Phillips creates characters which are easy to connect with, and the active pace keeps the reader engaged. A few red herrings are presented along the way in this well-plotted, solid romantic suspense tale" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).

When one or more characters resonate with me it makes the reading so much more enjoyable. There is something really special with Conner and Kayla; I like them as individual characters but I like them even better together... I can practically picture them off the pages.

Way too much repetition in the story- throws me right out of the movie-reeling through my brain as I read.

Weakens the story, diluting the GOOD STUFF

When I pick up one of Ms. Phillips’ books, I know right away that I’m in for an adventure! And I love that! Her books actually kinda put me in the mind of action movies - they are super fast paced and there’s always something happening! She keeps me on the edge of my seat, wondering what could possibly happen next that these poor characters may or may not survive. Those statements are definitely true of this one, as well! I’m also very excited that this is the first book in a new series and can’t wait to find out who’s book is next (I think I know, hopefully)!
This new series is “Secret Service Agents” and I was curious at the premise of one being undercover and coming across his previous protectee, a former president’s daughter. I have to be honest, I thought the Secret Service’s sole responsibility was protecting the president and dignitaries, so I was interested to learn of the other ways they work to protect the US. I appreciated the details the author included that added depth and layers, both to the investigation and to Conner’s character. Speaking of which: the characters are always my favorite part and the reason I keep reading any book, and these were excellent! I enjoyed getting to know Kayla and seeing the strength of character so ingrained in her. She is stubborn, brave, determined, but also has the sense to allow Conner and the other agents to protect her when needed. Conner shares most of those attributes, but the last one. He doesn’t see himself as needing protection, but rather the one who has to watch over others. I loved seeing him come to accept the help others offer.
I honestly can’t think of anything I didn’t enjoy about this story! If you’re looking for a fast-paced, suspenseful, on-the-edge-of-your-seat story, with a bit of romance, then I highly recommend this one!

My thanks to the author for my complimentary copy of this book! I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.
