Pass to Win #5

Game Winning Catch

Rate this book
I don't play dirty, I play to win.

"The more innocent a girl looks, the wilder she is in bed ... and that goes double for Natalie"
I went to see my childhood idol but instead I saw the girl I could never forget. People always say there's always one that got away, and for me that was Natalie. We spent one amazing summer together but then I never saw her again ... until now.

"Good girls love bad boys always seemed like such a cliche saying to me."
From the moment I saw him on my doorstep I knew I was his, whether I wanted to or not. Our time together was sinfully sweet but also short, as we both knew it had to come to an end. Only for me, it was just the beginning, as after Chris left I found out I'm pregnant with his child.

This is a full-length novel. It is a standalone so you don't have to read the series in order to understand it. There is NO cliffhanger, NO cheating, and a guaranteed happy ending!

I liked this book. Not loved but liked. I mean I understand where Chris is coming from in this book and I get the decisions he made, but at the same time I just really want to punch him in the face. He says he had to do what he did because he was just starting out, but really it is because he messed up so bad before that he was too afraid to do it again. And knowing that Natalie's father could ruin his chance to ever be the big star he wanted to continue to be. Well, to me it seemed to be an ego thing more than a love issue. So that was a problem for me in this book.
And then for all of this to happen when it did, I mean the day that everything happens is just the worse day it could. And poor Natalie had no idea that forces beyond her control were making decisions for her. But in the end, everyone gets their HEA.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is the last of Roxy's sports themed series, and it's a great way to end the series. It's a second chance, secret baby football romance that's by turns sweet and sexy. Chris is a free agent quarterback in LA for a meeting with his potential new team, the LA Tigers. He knows his childhood hero, Russell Boyd, lives in the area and he's determined to meet him. So he gets his publicist to find his address and walks up and knocks on his door. He doesn't get to meet Russell that day, but he does meet the woman who will come to mean everything to him: Russell's daughter, Natalie. Natalie answers the door and Chris is immediately attracted. As they get to know each other during the time Chris is in town, they strike up a friendship with sexual tension. Chris is determined to "score" with Natalie, but he has come to realize that she's not just some easy football groupie, she's smart, sweet and not a party girl at all. So he takes his time getting to know her. When they come together, it's sweet and steamy and they both fall pretty hard.

Unfortunately, Chris' playboy, out of control reputation comes back to bite him, as Natalie's father forbids Chris from seeing his daughter ever again, even going as far as threatening his career if he ever contacts Natalie again. So, Chris, knowing he has to think of his future, blocks Natalie's number from his phone and walks away. 5 years later, though, he sees a beautiful face in the crowd of fans at one of his games. Only she's not alone, there's an adorable little boy sitting next to her in the bleachers. Chris is determined to talk to Natalie again, and figure out who the little boy with her is.

They've got a bumpy road ahead of them, though, because Chris is still a playboy, and Natalie's father is still determined to keep Chris out of Natalie's life. Only, Russell doesn't know what Natalie knows, Chris is Michael's father, and Michael is Chris' biggest fan. Those two factors, and a helping hand of fate, mean Chris is going to be around forever, even after Russell finds out Chris is back and still tries to threaten him.

As always, Roxy has given us a sexy, well written story with likable characters and an entertaining plot. Chris is both sweet and sexy, and Natalie is amazing, she's strong and independent and a great mom. Their reunion is more emotional than anything, and their connection hasn't dimmed at all in the 5 years they've been apart. I'm going to miss Roxy's sports romances, I'm hoping she starts a new sports series!

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I am not even sure I should rate this audio because I did not finish it. The reasoning being that I had a hard time getting through the “she said, he said” every few words. My feelings are if you are doing character voices let the voice tell who is saying what. A few of these are find but as many times as it was being done in this audio is way, way to much. I did not finish the audio but I did read the story and found that much more enjoyable.

Ms. Mitchell does have a pleasant voice. Her character voices are great you always know who is talking and what they are feeling. She gives a lot of emotion to the audio hitting the tones right. The only problem I had was the he said she said so many times. It was so much it was hard for the narrator to go out of character voice to her normal voice in a smooth transition. From what I did listen to there was no background noise or any repeat of wording. The volume pretty much stayed the same throughout. It just wasn’t smooth maybe a pause is needed between the he said she said it was all blended together. My thoughts are it just isn’t needed since the voices shows who is talking. I really do not know what rating to give this so I am going with a 3 since the rest was good.

As far as the author she gives a compelling read of a second chance, secret baby that really pulls the reader in. The playboy side of Chris gets him in hot water with Natalie father who comes across as over powering along with over protective. But I think most of us would feel the same way if it was our daughter. Things ends so fast until you fast forward five years to a chance meeting and a little boy leaving Chris unsure of what to do. The author gives you a romance of ups and downs, confusion along with heartbreak. It was a fun reading about these characters and all they have to go through to find a happy ending.

I'm not quite sure how to start with this one. I listened to the audio book - and for the first time ever, I felt the need to listen to it at speed 1.5, which was a first for me. And not because the narration was done so slowly, but because I'm not one to quit but still wanted the story to be over already. It's not that it's bad. It's just... shallow. Nothing much happened. The description always very superficial - even the first sex between the heroine and the very jerky hero was... meh - and it was the heroine's first time, for christ's sake! And even though the story spanned about 6 years, there was no real character development. And, by the way, who exactly are Natalie and Chris exactly? I feel like I know nothing about them. And what exactly got her dad to change his opinion on Chris? It's a mystery... As well as if there was ever any real feeling between our couple. I felt... nothing. Not the tiniest bit chemistry. Oh, and the editing. If I hear "he said", "she said", "he asked", "she asked" just one more time, I think I'll scream! Over-usage is not strong enough a word for these terms.

I'm not a huge fan of the narrator either. I find that I am having troubles with nasal voices. And while her voices for each character were easily to be told apart, but, boy, did I hate Chris' voice! It was dislikeable and arrogant and ... just no. The up and down of her narrative also took some getting used to...

All in all I am sorry to say this one just wasn't for me.

Chris and Natalie are so sweet together, and their little boy Michael is gorgeous.

There are lots of issues that come up that cause problems for them and just as everything is going well something comes up. A few time I found myself thinking 'no don't...' but the characters weren't listening.

It's nice to see a relationship where both people go after their career goals and support each other rather than one putting their career on the back burner so the other can succeed.

Aundrea has a very distinctive narration style, I recognized her withing minutes of the book starting. I've always enjoyed her narration and this book is no different. I like the pacing and the smooth delivery. The character voices are well done I like her male voices, and I'm impressed with how well the male POV sections work.

This is Book 5 in the Pass To Win series and is a standalone. Chris and Natalie were together briefly but Natalie's father put an end to their relationship. Five years later, Chris is now an NFL player with a bad reputation and Natalie is now a mother - of his child. When they meet again, will they finally get their happily ever after or will circumstances once again stand in their way?

Game Winning Catch was a quick and enjoyable listen and I love the second chance romance trope. Sometimes it takes time, maturity and a new perspective to make things work out in the end. Aundrea Mitchell is one of my favorite female narrators, with an immediately recognizable voice and narrative style. For me, Game Winning Catch was a winning experience and I would recommend it.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. This review is my honest opinion.

This Secret Baby Sports Romance novel follows Chris a star college football player trying to make it in the pros as a quarterback. While in California for recruitment trials he goes & knocks on his idle former professional football player door to meet him instead he meets his daughter Natalie who is a knockout beauty. I fell in love with this story. I was heartbroken for Natalie when Chris made his choice without even a goodbye. A beautifully written and developed novel with no plot holes. With sensational character's that are realistic with real emotions and flaws. I was hooked right from the beginning till the end. A sweet & sexy spicy novel with some twists you won't see coming. With a perfect ending to the novel. I highly recommend reading this novel as you won't be disappointed. I Volunteerily reviewed an advanced reading copy of this book.

This book, a second chance romance had my attention from the beginning. Meeting Natalie, a strong woman, independent in some ways and naive in others meets Chris, the party animal football player. Natalie's dad is Chris's hero, the player he wants to be like, but with this player reputation, Natalie's father is not supportive of a relationship between the two, and as a result, they are not together. Fast forward 5 years, and now things are different. They have both grown up, are in completely different phases of their lives, but have a common thread that draws them together. Will it be enough to tame Chris? Will Natalie be able to stand up to her father and fight for what she wants? I found this book to be very entertaining, a wonderful addition to the series.

Aundrea Mitchell is the narrator of this book. She performs new adult stories really well, perfect for this book.

"I'll always make time for you" Great secret baby, sports romance. Chris tries hard but it takes him a while to get his life together. The famous athlete drama was normal for this genre but the interference of Natalie's father was way over the top, I wanted to tell him a thing or two, lol. The road was rough but this couple is so drawn to each other that they can't fight it. I like that Natalie was a good girl and though she loved football, she was not a groupie.

I give up

I've tried this author with 4 different books. We are not compatible. I don't think she does enough research on the sports she has written about. I also have problems with her characters behavior.

A second chance romance at its finest. To find your soulmate for a second time and find out that you have also made a child together definitely makes a great story and Roxy Sinclaire did that beautifully in this book. Such a great series so far.

The storyline entailing a secret baby with a second chance romance has been rewritten many times and in this go around it involves quarterback Chris Taylor and daughter of his childhood idol, Natalie Boyd.

This was a love at first sight kind of deal. Expecting to meet his idol: a former professional football player, Russell Boyd and instead the door opens to his daughter, Natalie. A girl that he felt some instant connection with and before parting ways they had plans to meet up later. She seemed different from his usual hooks up and has the need to explore these feelings and to get to know more about her. Vice versa, something about Chris had her intrigued for more but had to keep things on the down low especially from her overprotective father.

Things were progressing between Chris and Natalie and the dream of being part of the LA Tigers seems to be within reach; however given his reputation of being a playboy Russell senses something brewing with Chris and his offspring.

Threaten by Russell of a continued relationship with his daughter was something Chris had to think hard about. He has the opportunity to play for the team he has been eyeing but has to choose between the game or the girl. Knowing Russell has some pull he made a decision he could not pass up.

Years later Chris catches sight of Natalie in the stands again. The one girl that got away and the one he is still drawn too. He has the itch to talk to again and catch up leading to a surprise he had least expected.

The narration by Aundrea Mitchell was ok. There were overuse words: "I said", "he said", "she said"... that made the listen annoyingly irritating but overall it was told in a way that was easy to follow.

For a first timer to Roxy Sinclaire's writing it was not too bad. Some moments felt fast and predictable but for Chris and Natalie's story it was one that was told in a way that made it their own on another level.

ARC copy for honest review with no compensation,

Second chance at love and the end of a series and what a way to end it all….Roxy Sinclaire you did it again! ! !

Chris Taylor a sexy, alpha and scandalous free agent quarterback comes to LA for a meeting with his potential new teams and meeting his childhood hero. When he shows up at Russell Boyd’s house (his childhood hero) she meets instead Russell’s beautiful, sweet and innocent daughter Natalie. Chris is instantly attracted to her and while he is in town they see each other. When Chris has to return home to Florida to wait and see if this new team picks him up, he goes to Natalie’s house to give her a gift and that he wants to see where their relationship might take them but Russell (her father and his hero) answers the door and tells Chris that his reputation has preceded him and that if he doesn’t leave Natalie alone he will destroy his career. So……Chris leaves and blocks Natalie’s number and never returns her calls.

He was hired by the LA team and now 5 yrs later he sees her in the stands with a small boy. His feelings for her have never gone away and he wants to connect with her and find out if the little boy is her son or a nephew but again Russell steps in and tries to keep them apart. Natalie has grown up to become a strong, independent woman and is a great mother to her son, Michael. Little does Chris know that Michael is his son and that he is Chris’s biggest fan.

Can Chris and Natalie find a way back to each other and become a family that she so desperately wants or will Chris’s playboy ways keep them apart for good???

This book was my first sports romance book and I wasn't sure if I would be able to get into it. I enjoy football but I'm not that knowledgeable. I have to say that I did enjoy it. Chris Taylor is a good looking party animal with a reputation. He has to relocate when his former pro-football team cut him from the team due to his questionable behavior. Chris comes to Los Angeles to interview for the team. He decides to visit the home of his childhood football hero only to find the girl that he will never forget. After a brief romance they go separate ways. I really enjoyed the way both characters evolved. It was a really nice story that was heartwarming and sincere. It was very well written and fun to read.

I received this book as an ARC for a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Chris Taylor and Natalie Boyd. Chris is looking to be the new quarterback of the Tigers. While in the city he decides to look up the man who got him interested in the game Russell Boyd. What he finds though is his beautiful daughter instead. Chris is sure he can get with this girl and leave like he has done with all the other women, but there is something about Natalie that just won't let him let her go. Can he have it all the girl of his dream and be the star football player or will he be watching it all from the sidelines?

Natalie is the typical good girl. She is also the daughter of a former NFL player that is very well known. She has always been careful with the people she hangs around with due to the fact that they seem to want to use her for her name. However when she meets Chris that day there is something that just clicks with them. Though she is not sure what will happen with them she can't seem to hold herself back. Can she have the man of her dreams or will she loose it all to the bright lights of fame?

This is a great story about finding love and figuring out what you are willing to fight for. There are many ups and downs and there are times you want to smack them both. However you will find yourself rooting for them over and over again. I would like to say so much more about this book but don't want to ruin any of the twists that are in this book. I will say that I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Chris Taylor is a man living the fast life, paying football, partying and doing what feels good. But after an incident with his former team he finds himself in LA with a second shot at doing what he loves. A chance to meet his idol Russel Boyd, leads him to meet Boyd's daughter Natalie instead. A night out and he finds himself drawn to her in ways he isn't used to. Natalie Boyd knows the football life, she grew up in it, but works to have people see her for her and not as her father's daughter. A chance meeting of Chris and she is drawn to him, but cautious. While the two s[end time her father is in the background voicing his opinion loudly and will do whatever he thinks is necessary to protect his daughter. 5 years go by without any contact until a day at the game with Natalie's son has her right back in Chris's path again, with hopefully a different outcome than the last time. I enjoyed this read fro Roxy Sinclaire. While i love Chris and Natalie there were times i wanted to slap him upside his head for not standing his ground better and at the first scent of struggle he takes the easy way out, until he finally realizes what was there the whole time. This could've worked out so differently...honestly hoped it would.
There was so much off about this story that I was just like "wth did I just miss?" for most of its entirety (which is only 25% in the book when purchased/borrowed).

Natalie and Chris' story is like on super duper high definition fast forward, that if you blink, you'll miss something.

I wanted to like it, but the H and h just made it hard for me to do so.

Chris Taylor has been let go by his NFL team in Florida due to some very unseemly PR, so he is now trying to find another team to play for,
His PR agent Wes wants to use his "bad boy" persona to help continue to get endorsements. When Chris tries out for the Tigers he finds out his
football idol Russell Boyd lives in the area he goes to his house to meet him, when a gorgeous girl answers the door and tells him her dad is not home Chris is stunned, Natalie Boyd loves football and football players, even though her dad has tried to keep her away from them, he is a bit over protective when it comes to his daughter. This story is a second chance, secret baby romance. you move forward 5 years after Chris and Natalie hook up (and dad comes into play!) and Chris and Natalie find each other again. Now Chris has a baby and a chance to make everything better again. will they work things out or will things go bad once again for the two.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book,

Chris came to visit the home of his idol football player, instead of meeting him he meet "the one". The one girl that he could never forget, Natalie. Living the fast hard partying bad boy came to bite him in his fine ass when her father told him he would ruin his career in football if he every tries to contact her again. He left playing the sport he loved all his life but never forgetting sweet Natalie.

Fate has a way of getting you back to "the one". Natalie never forgot him, as heart broken as she was over him, she always wondered why he left without saying a word. After she found out that she was going to have Chris's baby, she tried to contact him and when she never heard from him, she decided that life will go on and she will raise this baby on her own.

This was a cute, quick read that was sweet, heart breaking and loving in the end.

When Chris meets Natalie, he is a star college football player looking to make it to the pros. Their beginning is sweet and hot, but life gets in the way, and they part ways. Fast forward, and Chris is now a pro baller. He doesn't know he's also a dad, but he sees Natalie with a little boy, and suddenly everything shifts. I loved the way they found their way back to each other, but there were still some hurdles to overcome. I thought the sex scenes were a little bit rushed, but the story itself was a really good one, and the focus was on Chris being a better person and becoming worthy of Nataile and Michael. Sweet yet sexy baby romance! I voluntarily reviewed an advance review copy of this book.

Chris and Natalie spent one summer together, one summer that changed everything. Natalie didn't know much about Chris other than he played for Florida and was possibly coming to the California Tigers. Chris has a reputation though. He got into some highly publicized trouble in Florida, hence the move to California. They spend a few fun filled weeks together, nothing too heavy, but just enough to develop feelings. Chris is faced with a decision that has been forced upon him- possibly lose his career or lose Natalie. For Chris, it's a no brainer.

No Chance Chris Taylor, that's what you have got...No Chance. That's what Quarterback star thinks when he wants to meet his childhood hero Russell Boyd. Little does he realise that meeting his daughter Natalie will change his life's course. They get along well, really well but Russell warns him off because of Chris's playboy ways. By then it's too late, as Natalie is pregnant and Chris doesn't know. So sad for Chris and Natalie because of an over protective Father. A very good story of catching up on missed opportunities, doing the right thing and seeing if they can work out and make a happy family. It made me laugh, tear up and feel shock all at various times but still a brilliant story.

4.5 stars Excellent contemporary sports/football romance. Chris is known for his bar boy says and antics. He ends up looking is quarterback position due to his actions. He gets picked up by a new team and they like his notoriety. Chris goes to meet his childhood football idol only to come face to face with Natalie. Unfortunately his idol doesn't want Chris near his daughter. Natalie is trying to prove herself behind the scenes of a professional sports team. She comes to care for Chris but they are separated until they meet up 5 years later and eventually the realization he has a child. This story is full of ups and downs as well as unexpected twists and turns. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I enjoy reading books by Ms. Sinclaire.

Great story about a guy and a gal that feel an attraction, a connection, but one person interferes and it only complicates matters. Chris is a quarterback that has enjoyed his single, celebrity status. That is, until he meets Natalie. Then he begins to rethink his possibilities. One loves the characters and gets attached to their challenges to find happiness. While the plot was similar to other secret baby sports romances, I found it had a refreshing spin and I came away with a "feel good" experience. Highly recommend this sweet romance. It's a keeper. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Five stars.
