Rate this book
The novel is set in a dysfunctional and contemporary Nigeria. It sparkles with politics, love and laughter. It revolves around a Nigerian girl Esther Dike as she matures from adolescence to adulthood surrounded by unpredictable and exciting characters, all caught up in the web of economic recession, terrorism and tribal disintegration. She finds herself living with a woman whose dastardly religious beliefs leave a lasting negative effect on her.

All through the novel, she witnesses the brutalities of an economy governed by cold-blooded minds and the disunity among the major tribes when a war veteran visits. When she secures admission into the university, she is able to escape from a bleak future planned out for her. Caught between an oppressive economy and a guardian that ceaselessly abused her,her self worth is inescapably shattered. However, her blossoming friendship with Eric Oforbuike, an altruistic son of the soil, offers her a ray of hope and would eventually lead her on the path to self-discovery and fulfillment.
