From the author: I recently went through some changes with Amazon. In the process, every review I had, both good and the one bad went away. If it is not too much bother, and if you enjoyed my books, please take the small amount of time needed to post a review? They really do help.

Regarding piracy. One of my Tony Mandolin books was pirated in Hong Kong. By the time I discovered it, it had garnered about 53,000 reviews, most of them 4 % 5 stars. Pity Amazon doesn't take those reviews.

Seriously entertaining and wryly tongue- in- cheek, Tony Mandolin is at it again! Nods to Mr. Bond and a casino population that would give Tim Burton fits form the centre piece. The experience was enhanced by the explanation of Baccarat for dummies (though personally I think the Henson people would do an amazing treatment! )Fasicinate us some more,Mr. Beers!

Lucky Stiff is the third novel in the Tony Mandolin series I have read. As always I’m very impressed with the cover, by Jeffrey Kosh. The depiction of Tony Mandolin in his tatty raincoat with his tie undone and the ghoul hovering in the background captures the essence of the novel perfectly.
Robert Beers has established a character in Mandolin that is on the one hand different but manages to capture the vibe of the classic vintage private detectives. Mandolin is tough, hard bitten and streetwise but at the same time has a degree of vulnerability as is shown in this novel when he cries real tears when his friend Frankie is shot dead.
As with the previous Tony Mandolin novels I have read, Lucky Stiff is set in San Francisco. To me it’s simply irresistible that one is reminded of Sam Spade in the classic 1941 Humphrey Bogart movie The Maltese Falcon, only this time it’s not a black ornament that’s the focus but gambling and the rather more contemporary villains like triads, cartels and Russian gangsters.
However, nothing is what it appears when once again Tony Mandolin has to deal with the supernatural. This is a story that’s engaging with fabulous characters and a great plot.
Read it and become a Tony Mandolin fan.
