I am loving this series! Wow! I feel like if I did have kids, my daughter would be just like Ivy-think of that what you will.😆 Ivy is in a new place this time, w/a whole new situation. She has issues still to deal w/from the 1st book, but also a whole set of new problems & mysteries. I loved seeing how everything was coming together, & all fitting perfectly w/the 1st book too. Won’t say too much, since this is the 2nd book, but I loved this! Ivy is just as amazing! So feisty, sassy, brave, determined, & imaginative! Lol so imaginative..some of the things she comes up with..or that come out of her mouth!🤣 She is so delightfully unique. This was another great adventure full of mystery, danger, suspense, & definitely humor. Been loving the dark & humorous. I can’t wait to start the 3rd & final book today, & see how everything comes together, & get all the answers to things left unanswered. I will be sad it will be over though. Again, another AMAZING cover, full of beautiful illustrations inside that I’m just obsessed with.😍😍 HIGHLY recommend!!💜💜

U ovoj ćete priči sresti neke stare Ivyne prijatelje (i neprijatelje), a upoznat ćete i neke nove, poput gospođice Carnage, sirote zbunjene knjižničarke.

This series is absolutely hilarious. One of my favourites.

I wonder who Caleb Krisp is though. Is he a new author or someone who's published under his real name before.

Zanimljiv i duhovit autor stvorio je istu takvu Ivy.

Mračnije i ozbiljnije.

Dnf p. 57. I started this not having read the 1st book, & maybe that was a mistake. Enough was explained that I didn't feel lost, but I was bored. Maybe one has to have already bonded or previously related to the characters in order to enjoy this second book in the series. This kid calling everyone, "dear," all the time was just weird though, & not in a creepily endearing way. It was an off thing to be doing, even for a strange & dark kid like Ivy. I loved the illustrations, though. If I come across the 1st book I'll give it a go & see how that works out.

Last year, thanks to Bloomsbury Australia, I got the chance to read a super fun ARC for the first book in this series. So I couldn't wait to read more.

Ivy Pocket is a very resourceful twelve-year-old orphan who has odd remedies for just about every ailment. She's also the keeper of the Clock Diamond, which means she can see past, present and future visions. Plus she just found out she can also travel into another world. She has a sharp tongue, is very clever but can sometimes be quite clueless about what's right in front of her.

Oh, and she's now got parents.

The Snagsby couple make coffins for a living and have a pretty modest business. Although Ivy is expected to clean around the house, read somber poems to those on their deathbeds and her bedroom door is locked at night, she's still very happy to finally be part of a family. She's always keen to help, but manages to get distracted by other things.

When a woman approaches her and starts asking questions about her missing brother, Ivy starts digging around and finds a lot more than she bargained for. Because the Snagsby couple are at the centre of a pretty big secret, something that leads back to Ivy. Of course, when it comes to Ivy Pocket, there are always other problems at hand and now she's got a friend to rescue, some bizarre texts to learn from, a familiar pesky ghost to deal with, and another even more dangerous woman to dodge.

Can Ivy make it out unscathed, or will she be forced to accept that she can't always save the day?

OMG. This story is awesome! I was hooked as soon as I started. Seeing Ivy settled into a family was a lovely surprise that slowly soured when the secrets start to rise to the surface. The Snagsbys aren't very nice people and certainly take Ivy for granted. No matter what they do they can't outsmart her, which can be very frustrating for them and very entertaining for us.

Where in the first book her constant insults were often cringe-worthy, I loved them this time around. :)

Just like the first book, the strong female presence is very impressive. There are so many amazing, interesting women and girls. The level of cunning and manipulation featured in these female characters is balanced out by the generous and cleverness of others.

Somebody Stop Ivy Pocket is a charming and super fun book! It's zany and packed with so many intriguing mysteries that I didn't want to put it down. The comical dialogue, hilarious antics and Ivy's fibs kept me amused and laughing out loud throughout, but the story also takes some pretty dark and dangerous turns. A lot of new and old characters collide in this book, and most of them are greedy manipulators who want to take advantage of our brave heroine. Luckily, our Ivy Pocket doesn't scare easy and can pretty much get herself out of anything.

The illustrations add to the story. I love the cute, bright cover. And the book is just so darn pretty. Yep. I loved everything about it.

I honestly didn't think I could love the next installment more than the first, but I did!

Bring on the next Ivy Pocket adventure because after that ending, I seriously can't wait to see what happens next.

Ivy Pocket as a character is just plain hilarious!!! Her overly deluded sense of self-importance and skills, as well as her overactive imagination makes her stories unmistakably fun. We meet Ivy Pocket, a 12 year old maid first in Anyone But Ivy Pocket, and you'll just love her sense of courage and the gift of not seeing the bad in anyone. I guess in modern terms, you can call her naive, since she just doesn't get any of the jabs or sarcasms thrown her way. Even when others have treated her badly, there's no animosity towards them. Her ideas and actions are for the benefit of others, at least according to her. The illustrations by Barbara Cantini just adds to the comedic visuals one can imagine when reading Ivy Pocket. Ivy's adventures, whether in reality or in her head makes this series instinctively reminiscent of the ingenuity of the Harry Potter series and the gothic wicked humor of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. I too, like Ivy believes that it warrants more than a trilogy, and like Harry Potter, children and adults will find joy in this. I read the first book out loud, and it was an instant hit. Even in between my snorts and eye rolling, by family enjoyed this as much as I did. Go ahead, give this one a try and be enamored with Ivy Pocket.

Read more about this review and more on my blog. The Book Return Blog Ivy Pocket's luck seems to be turning, in the second installment of the 'Ivy Pocket' series. She has the Clock Diamond and is living with adoptive parents, who she helps with their coffin business. Guilt over her friend Rebecca drives her to attempt to rescue her.
'Somebody stop Ivy Pocket' is another cute buy interesting installment in the series. This one seemed more series and Ivy slightly less insulting. Ivy's quest to save her friend mades her seem much more human and vulnerable. This series is also action packed and keeps you thinking. The illustrations are wonderful. I am looking forward to the last installment of the trilogy.

Another smashing good hit from Caleb Krisp! Ivy is at it again, fighting off monsters, saving the world, and keeping ahead of her nemesis, Miss Always. Because she has all the skill of a superhero. I love the charming characters and the wit in which this tale unfolds with. Ivy Pocket is turning out to be of my favorite precocious characters.

Are you ready for Ivy Pocket? The wickedly funny, completely unreliable maid of no importance returns—this time as a coffin maker’s daughter—in this action-packed sequel to Anyone but Ivy Pocket. School Library Journal says, “Fans of . . . Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events will love Ivy Pocket’s zany adventures.” Featuring extensive black-and-white interior art by Barbara Cantini throughout.

Everyone seems to want a piece of Ivy Pocket. Her adoptive parents keep trying to get her to clean the funeral home, even though Ivy’s certain she’s already the picture of a perfect daughter. A beautiful heiress named Estelle wants Ivy to uncover the dark truth behind her brother’s death. Her new friend, Miss Carnage, keeps asking Ivy the most curious questions (the poor, clueless dear). To top it all off, Ivy must protect the Clock Diamond from the evil Miss Always, who seems to be lurking around every corner!

A fast-paced and hilarious follow-up to Anyone but Ivy Pocket, which Booklist praised as “a droll chapter book with a Victorian setting and a one-of-a-kind protagonist.” This is the second of three books about Ivy Pocket!

Rating: 4/5 Penguins
Quick Reasons: more snark from Ivy Pocket, with just a hint of emotional growth/maturity; there seemed a bit less action/adventure in this installment; the twists weren't quite such a mystery this round; cute prose, adorably dark characters, beautiful illustrations; I still love Ivy's “medical remedies”

Huge thanks to Caleb Krisp and HarperCollins Publishers for sending me an early ARC of this novel in exchange for an unbiased review! This in no way altered my read of or opinions on this title.

Due to this, however, I will not be including quotes from this novel in this review. This is to keep myself, the author, and the publishers from getting into any sort of legal trouble that may arise from including said quotes without proper checking in the finished publication. I hope you guys don't mind!

Once again, Ivy Pocket took me on a wildly humorous and strangely dark journey. Once again...I adored every moment of it, though I think I'm going to have to buy the finished product in order to see all the awesome illustrations I missed out on! Seriously, the artist for these novels does a beautiful job; the illustrations always highlight specific small moments of the story, and also make me chuckle. I can't wait to see the rest of them in the final publication; I'm sure I won't be disappointed!

As always, there were several unexpected twists and turns to the prose, though I felt like the action/adventure portion was a bit less in this installment than in the first read. It wasn't stilted in any way—the read was still quick, lively, and entertaining—but I didn't feel as if AS MUCH were happening to Ivy. This is possibly due to several things: 1. She knows better how to use and control the Clock Diamond; 2. She has grown and matured a bit with the loss of her dear friend, Rebecca; and 3. She isn't trying nearly as hard to impress everybody, as she's found herself a family to stay with.

Of course...in Ivy Pocket's world, nothing is as simple as it seems, and there are dangers and dastardly consequences lurking around every corner. I still adore Ivy's personality; the snark and sass were just as prominent here. She still always does the unexpected, especially when delivering “medical remedies” to other characters. She still made me giggle like a maniac several times during the read.

Overall, this installment was adorable. The journey was wild, dark in all the right ways, and still humorous—I don't know how Caleb Krisp manages this, but he does it wonderfully. I really enjoyed this ARC, and can't wait to get my hands on the finished product—and on book 3! I definitely recommend to lovers of sassy characters, dark humor, and gorgeous illustrations. Pick this series up, guys—and somebody, stop Ivy Pocket!

This is the second installment in a trilogy and yes, they do need to be read in order and are worth the wait!

Krisp makes me think of a blend of Lemony Snickett and Edward Gorey. He has a wonderful turn with phrases and his quick paced wit conjure up adventures that would thrill the bravest of hearts. His Ivy is a mad dash mixture of what I imagine Amelia Bedelia would be if she was written for an older audience as a young girl. She is charmingly irreverent, brave, and whimsical and will delight any young reader.

In this second book we find that Ivy, having been " adopted " by a couple who runs a discount funeral home has, far from finding a safe haven, unknowingly stepped into the midst of a great mystery revolving around the couple's daughter and a young man who simply vanished off the face of the earth. With pleas from the family of the missing gentleman to help them find answers, Ivy finds herself with her hands full as she fights off the nefarious Miss Always and her locks, french baguettes can come in quite handy thank you, and when the local librarian unwittingly gives Ivy the potential tool to help rescue her lost friend Ivy jumps at the chance as only a true friend would. Using the Clock Diamond Ivy finds that not all is as it seems and that the rescuer may indeed be the one in need of rescue after all. But not to fear for Ivy has the cleverness of a great spy and the ability to outwit anyone whom she faces.

These books are hysterical, full of wonderfully descriptive adventures, and a heroine who cannot understand why anyone would ever call her abilities into question. After all if she can cure face moles by sticking a toad on them what can't she do? Add these books to your child's summer reading and sit back and listen to them giggle.

I received a copy of this title from Bloomsbury Australia for review.

Ten Second Synopsis:
Ivy Pocket is working for a pair of unsightly undertakers, reading poems for the about-to-be-deceased to ease them on their way. When Ivy's necklace shows her images of Rebecca (the supposedly dead), Ivy must try and puzzle out a way into a whole new world and stage a rescue.

I will admit to finding this book considerably more tolerable than the first in the series. I will even admit to letting out a few guffaws at Krisp's pointy, pointy dialogue. While the inherently irritating Ivy is still up to all her old tricks, they didn't seem quite so insufferable this time around.
I suspect that the story, which involves some very shady funeral directors, was closer to my preferred narrative in middle grade books.

Having said that, I still couldn't say that I really enjoyed the book. Ivy's inability to take obvious hints with regards to major plot twists was still too infuriating to be borne. There is something about the character of Ivy that is a bit like Rowan Atkinson's Mr Bean. Watching that television show was like watching a car crash in slow motion: everyone but the protagonist could see the outcome, but were powerless to stop it and forced to endure every agonizingly awful second of it. Except I got many more laughs out of Mr Bean than I have from Ivy.

I suspect that Ivy and I are just too different to be friends. Still, the lass is getting plenty of love from other quarters so don't let my curmudgeonly attitude put you off.

Ivy Pocket fura! Nagyon is fura! Ha a mi világunkban élne biztos a diliházban csücsülne. (A könyvben ott is megfordul.) Megy előre a falnak.

Aztán jött a felfedezés. Voltunk nyaralni, s a szállásadó férfi mindig így kezdte a mondandóját: Drágáim jól érzitek magatokat? Drágáim milyen a szoba?

Ivy Pocket is the most unique, funny and conceited girl around. Never doubt her instincts as she has a lot of them. She is sweet like Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables), has the smarts of Maxwell Smart (Get Smart) and the darkness of Wednesday Addams (The Addams Family). I adore her and love every word I read about her.

Ivy has finally found parents to live with. Although she knows she's the picture perfect daughter her parents disagree. They treat her more like Cinderella then the daughter she dreamt of being.

They have her working in the family funeral home reading poems to the soon to be deceased. She always falls asleep after and has no idea what her parents do doing during her snoozing time.

She's constantly on the lookout for Miss Always. Miss Always will stop at nothing to get ahold of Ivy Pocket. Ivy knows she has to keep herself and the Dark Diamond safe at all costs. When she lands herself into an insane asylum her job gets considerably harder.

Ivy Pocket is so easy to love. I'm looking forward to reading the final book in the trilogy. I highly recommend this book for a quick fun read.
