What if you could travel back in time? What if you met the love of your life in the past? December 20, 1961 Well, I am officially heading to Vietnam. I'll leave for basic in just a few weeks and then it's off to another world. My mom cried when I chose to enlist. It's not the most popular decision in some places, but other places aren't my little town. Here, I'm a hero. Here, I stand for something. My only wish is that I get to see her before I leave. It's weird, I've described her to everyone but no one knows who she is. To me, she's mine, but I know there is a story she's not yet ready to tell me. I'm glad she's in my life, though, because she's gotten me through some rough times. Well, that's my story today. KJ When Willow Davidson is suddenly uprooted from her big city life and tossed into a small town, she struggles to find where she belongs. That is until she finds his journal and suddenly, finds herself in the past. 1958 to be exact. It's there in the past that she meets Keagan. He's handsome and funny. He captures her heart, but they are fighting an uphill battle. She's from the present and he's from the past, but the time war they face doesn't stop her from falling in love.
I'm Amanda Kay, a married mother of two. I have a degree in Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Political Science. Writing has always been a way for me to release the stress of everyday life. After a while I decided I wanted to share my stories, but I wanted them to be affordable for all so after some careful consideration I decided that my E-books would always be just $0.99 cents (USD). Mission
My mission is to hopefully give readers a voice. As a teacher and mother of two I see the struggles teenagers and young adults face every day and I hope my stories can be something they can get lost in, but also find hope in.
Vision
My vision is to inspire every day. Not only through my writing, but also in how I carry myself and interact with people on a daily basis whether in person or online.
I was excited by the premise of this book, a bit of a YA time travel, and eager to read something by an author with whom is was unfamiliar. The story started out building something very strong and promising, a plot line that grabbed my attention and held me captive; however, as the story progressed, I found myself feeling as if the main character made a major shift in thinking and action that changed the depth of her character—a change that went against a statement made without building in why the beliefs or feelings changed. Thus, I found myself frustrated in regard to the overall plot. This is something that I feel should have been fleshed out a bit more, something that could have been discussed between betas, editors, and the author.
Yet, as I share the frustration I had, I also must commend Amanda Kay on her ability to carefully craft the writing to seamlessly allow reader to travel through time with the character. This was a very intriguing plot with emotionally developed character and a theme that stands the test of time.
Time War by Amanda Kay is a YA time travel romance story.
As I began this story, it felt reminiscent to the film The Lake House and spoke of an epic love story transcending time. I didn't get as engrossed in the story as I wanted to though.despite that, the barebones of the storyline was a good one and quite an original story, I think it just needed to be fleshed out a little more.
I did enjoy the 'family' theme throughout the story and how it remained a very important and integral part to all the main characters. And I always enjoy a story more with multiple narrators and Time War gives us Willows and KJs perspectives.
This is quite a short read and I would be interested to see what Amanda Kay does with a full length novel.
I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
Read in one sitting Ms. Kay has a way of grabbing a hold of her readers and holding on until you finish her book. This book is no different. I loved how, as the story progresses, the characters evolve... Love crosses distance, time, and circumstance. This is not the first book of Ms. Kay's that I have read, and it definitely will not be my last.
This was a great book. I sat down to start it and was surprised to read the entire book. I love Willow and Keegan and all the great characters in this book. I loved reading how the story continued to evolve while reading. Great book
I enjoyed this story. The characters were fun.. This one is YA and I enjoyed it a lot.. It was very interesting to read the journal entrys and the characters were intriquing.. I really liked the storyline and the writing was awesome.
This is the first book by Amanda Kay I have read stars. It was refreshing to read a YA book like this one.
Willow a young girl is forced to move due to her father’s job just before she begins high school. Upon moving to her new home she discovers an old journal. As she begins to read it she and finds herself going back in time to 1958. At first she is not sure if she was dreaming or actually travelled in time.
This journal begins to change her life and somehow looks like it is becoming part of her reality when she meets a guy who has the same initials as the boy from the journal and seems to have the same appearance.
This book is very emotional and sheds light on how one person’s decision can affect and have consequences on many other people and generations. I recommend that as a wonderful sweet and innocent read.
This is the first book by Amanda Kay I have read. I really enjoyed the book. I don't read a whole lot of YA books but I did like this one. In this book Willow is forced to move right before starting high school because her father got a new job. She finds a journal under a loose floor board in her room. After reading the first entry she finds herself back in 1958 and she talks to a boy named Keagan while she is there. When she wakes she isn't sure if she dreamed the whole thing or if she really time traveled. The easy answer is to look at the next entry in the journal. So she does and finds the boy wrote about her. This one thing changes her whole life. People will think she is crazy if they find out; and where is the boy now. She continues to read the journal and time travel slowly falling in love with him. Then things get really interesting when she sees a boy at school who looks just like Keagan and even has the same initials as him. Things start to change and Willow has some choices to make. Does she continue to visit Keagan in the past knowing they can't really have a relationship no matter how much they love each other or does she take a chance on KJ who she can really have something with. This book is very emotional at times and takes on several topics. Mostly family topics. Like how one choice can affect the lives of many and how future generations continue with the feelings even know they don't know the whole story. I recommend this book and look forward to reading more books by Amanda Kay in the future.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.
Time War by Amanda Kay a thought provoking five-star read. This is the first book by Amanda Kay I have read, this is a story about a 15-year-old girl called Willow Davidson, she is uprooted from her big city life and relocated to a small town, leaving her friends and starting a new high school, as her dad got a new job, so the family had to move. Willow gets a shock when travels through time and meets someone she has read about in a journal she found under a floor board. That journal belonged to Kegan Jones or KJ as he is also known, he used to live in the house in 1958 when he was 15-years-old. When they start to talk, Willow starts to fall in love. They face an uphill battle as they may love each other but they are decades apart, add to that they have different lives and each have their own complications in life including Kegan going to Vietnam. The book does get a little jumpy and confusing, but once into the book you get sucked in and it’s great, but overall it’s a really enjoyable read.
